Kai was eager to start the day and wasted no time racing into the yard first thing this morning. Everyone took their time exploring to see what had changed overnight. Then we picked up the pace, as it was time for walks! Kai could hardly wait. She was practically buzzing with excitement as I put the leash on, and then led the way outside. There was so much to sniff on the trail and it had Kai zigzagging all over the place with her nose in the grass. After that, Kai and I headed out front for her extra attention. She wandered around the hill, poking around in the dandelions until she found a good spot to roll around. Once Kai had given her back a nice scratch, she flopped over on her side, enjoying the sun while I gave her a belly rub. Then Kai sat up and happily watched the world go by. We cuddled a bit more and then went back to her kennel because it was almost group time. Kai went bouncing out the door after the other dogs and made her rounds to say hello to everyone. She made sure to stop by and snuggle with me, too. Kai must have been warm in all her beautiful black fur, so she set out to find somewhere cool to lie. The play structure was the perfect spot! Of course, Kai didn’t have much time to relax as Kodi and Caesar starting racing around, and she couldn’t be left out! Kai hopped up to chase after them. She ran along behind them but decided not to jump into the center of activity today. Once Kai was out of breath, she headed back to her spot in the play structure.

Kenzie and Kodi had a lovely walk this morning. The weather wasn’t too warm yet and both of them were happy to take their time, enjoying the breeze and exploring the trail as they went. For their group after that, they headed out with some bigger dogs, after spending most of their time yesterday playing with the little guys. Kenzie was shy at first and stuck close to me, but gradually she opened up as each dog came over to say hello. Soon she went trotting off with Kai to sniff around the yard. Kodi, of course, is just a bundle of love and was happy to meet everybody. He playfully pounced on the dog closest to him, Zak, and the two of them went racing off together. Then Kodi was distracted by a scent in the grass and trotted off with his nose down. Meanwhile, Kenzie had checked out everything she wanted to see and made her way over to see what I was up to. Although she is a busy girl, Kenzie is always happy for a few cuddles and politely posed for the camera as well. Kodi must have figured I was handing out treats, and hurried over, sitting down quickly when I asked him to. He didn’t seem too disappointed when I gave him a pat instead of a biscuit, and went bouncing off again to play with Zak. This time he had Caesar and Kai chasing him around as well. Whenever the group slowed down, Kodi would pounce on somebody and get the games started again. He was all over the place! Kenzie made her way around the edge of the yard, watching her silly brother, and found a nice spot to enjoy the sun for the rest of group time. Once most of the dogs had wandered off again, Kodi kept himself busy wrestling with Caesar – who was much bigger than him, although that certainly didn’t discourage Kodi at all!

Sophie was her happy-go-lucky self today. She was so happy when I came to get her for a walk that she was dancing around like crazy and I could hardly put on her leash! Once everybody was ready to go, we all headed outside. Sophie gave her friends Rex and Birdie a big hello, as they were joining us for the walk. The dogs bounced around sniffing each other for a moment and then raced for the trail. Sophie proudly took the lead and trotted along with her nose and tail up. She then caught a whiff of something good and strayed to the side to check it out. Overall the walk was very relaxing and Sophie seemed ready for a nap when we got back. Soon, though, she was leaping to her feet again for groups. Her tail was wagging a mile a minute as she hopped out the door and made a beeline for the first dog. After giving Fez a friendly greeting, Sophie wandered over to the fence to sniff around in the grass. As usual, she quickly picked a nice spot and flopped over on her side. Once Sophie had finished rolling around, she came over to say hi to me and enjoy some cuddles, barking and telling me about her day as she did so.

Fez and Rex were both excited for their walks this morning. Fez enjoyed a nice stroll down the driveway with our volunteer, and Rex joined Sophie, Birdie and I for an adventure around the trail. While Fez sniffed around and got plenty of love, Rex was racing all over the path with Birdie right on his tail. They were absolutely ecstatic to be outside and wanted to see everything at once. Eventually we made it back with the leashes in knots, and Rex went straight to his kennel for a drink of cool water. After that, the boys were the first ones of their group to head outside. Rex raced for the grassy yard while Fez lingered at the door to say hello to everyone as they came out. He gave his friend Sophie a sniff and then wandered after her to check out the grass along the fence. Once Fez was satisfied that he had explored everything well, he moseyed on over to see what I was doing. Fez was happy to snuggle with me while I took pictures and played with the dogs, and if I ever got distracted he would patiently lean his head on me until I continued petting him. What a sweetheart! Rex, on the other hand, was a ball of energy. When Fez strolled off again, I found Rex a rubber toy and tossed it for him. He went racing after it, with Nyxx on his tail, and happily returned with it in his mouth. Nyxx followed behind him, loudly complaining as huskies do. Then Rex was distracted by activity in the other yard and went bouncing off, leaving Nyxx to steal the toy. Rex didn’t mind though because he was now busy wrestling with his friend Bear. Both he and Fez certainly had a fun day!

Teddy and Kizmet were so happy to get outside for their group time this morning. As soon as Kizmet got out the door he walked over to me to say hello. He sure does love the attention and is always up for some cuddles if that means he gets to give me kisses afterwards. When I was crouching down and petting him Teddy walked over to say hello as well. When I started to pet Teddy, Kizmet couldn't resist coming over too, and jumped up and knocked me over to get my attention. I stood up to give him a bit more love before he decided to start exploring the yard. Teddy stayed around the gravel area at first and followed Kizmet around as he began to sniff along the fence. He eventually took off on his own and made his way over to the further yard to wander around the grass with the other dogs in his group. Once Kizmet was done exploring around the gravel he trotted over to join his brother as well, they both had their noses to the ground as they walked around and enjoyed the sunshine. Teddy kept to himself mostly, while Kizmet decided to say hello to some of his other friends in his group while he was exploring. After they were done, they seemed to be pretty tuckered out and walked over to the indoor kennel to get some shade and relax. They both took a seat and laid down to cool off before they came back inside.

Birdie was loads of fun today when she was outside with her group and really got everyone in the mood to play. At first when I let her out of her kennel she ran as fast as she could out the door and made her way into the grass yard as the others chased her. She began to wander around the yard on her own, running from one spot to the next as if she was searching for something. I made my way over to her and called her to see me as she popped up her head in the middle of a sniff to see what I wanted. I called her name again but this time she ran over and jumped up to greet me and say hello. Some of the other dogs noticed that I was giving pets and ran over to get their share. Birdie walked away to continue exploring just when I found a toy on the ground that I knew she would love to play with. I waved it in the air to get her attention and she came running back over at full speed to try and grab it out of my hand. I told her to sit before I threw it as some of the others joined in and sat next to her, patiently waiting to run after it. Once I threw it none of the others even had a chance against Birdie. She was so quick to catch it some of the other dogs didn’t even realize I’d thrown it yet. We played fetch for a while until a couple of the other dogs finally managed to get their mouths on the toy and fetch quickly turned into a game of tug a war - Birdie against all. At one point there was Birdie with two other dogs all tugging on it trying to claim it as theirs.

April was really enjoying her extra attention this morning after her walk. She was feeling pretty warm on this hot day so we decided to stay inside and hangout in the playroom instead. I gave her lots of cuddles as she stretched across the floor for me to pet her belly. I motioned for her to jump up on top of the couch as it would be way more comfortable for her to lay down. As soon as April got comfortable on the couch, I could tell she was enjoying it. I decided to get a brush and give her a little pampering while we were there. She sat there perfectly beside me as I took as much hair out as I could. During her group time outside, April seemed to be super happy to go out. After she had some time to cool down and relax she was ready to get back out there and start exploring with her friends. At first, she made her way over into the grass yard to do some sniffing around on her own. She took her time walking around the yard to smell whatever she came across. April loved to stick her head in the tall grass to see what she could smell under it. I called her over to me but she was in more of an exploratory mood, and continued on her way to the gravel section of the yard. She made her way along the fence before she walked over to one of the older dogs that were standing by the door enjoying the sun. They each gave each other a sniff to say hello before April walked away to explore the yard a bit more. Eventually she made her way into the outdoor kennel and stood in there to get some shade and a break from the sun. I walked over to her to give her some cuddles as she touched noses with me and gave me a little kiss on the face.
