Friday, May 12th, 2017

It was another Friday well spent for our lovely daycare guest April! Now that she has been here every Friday for the past couple of weeks, she seems to have the routine down pat and loves hanging out with her new friends. To start her morning off on the right paw, she joined Husky pals Vega and Justice for a beautiful trail walk. She was thrilled to be outside on this sunny morning and even more excited to have the company. She is quite strong as well which matched perfectly for the Huskies because they love a fast paced walk but they definitely kept me on my toes! A short while later, she was heading back outside again but this time with all of her favourite four-legged friends, including a new friend, Mercedey. April followed me around the yard and nose nuzzled with a few friends but she quickly made her way over to the puddle and decided to have a nice rest and cool off; there was no way I was getting her out of there! Much like April, Mercedey was thrilled to have that beautiful sun shining down again this morning. Mercedey knows the routine quite well now, and she was excited when I approached her kennel door this morning for her walk. It was the perfect morning spent on that trail and she happily stretched out her long legs and enjoyed her trot. Next she joined April and her friends outside in the agility yard and now that she is comfortable with me, she rarely left my side knowing that I was handing out free head rubs! She was smiling ear to ear all day long!

Finnigan and Kimi were next up for a session of fun outside and with these two around it was guaranteed to be a playful group! Joined by Lola, Nyxx and Stella, everyone quickly made there way out into the agility yard and started huddling around the tunnel. Lola was whipping in and out of the tunnel and Finn and Nyxx jumped right in after her. Kimi loves when things get exciting around the tunnel; she could hardly contain her excitement just waiting to see which end the group was going to emerge from. Lola came out first with Nyxx not far behind and Kimi quickly took off after them. Of course Kimi and the huskies were in the lead! Finn found a treasure as he was making his way across the yard, a shiny black bone. He quickly rolled around on his back with the bone in mouth and Lola ran over to see what he had. Finn guarded that bone with his life and sure enough this led to another epic chase around the yard. He was so hot from running so many laps that he decided to cool off in the nearest puddle, he was pretty proud of himself for that! Both Kimi and Finn were exhausted from their adventures outside that they didn’t even hesitate to come back in when called and usually these are the last two to ever come in, they were pooped!

Jack and Maggie were eager to head out into the yard this morning after their walk time. The pair raced down the hallway and beat most of their buddies out the door and into the sunny yard. They spent a little while roaming around the yard with their noses to the ground, having a good sniff. Jack was very interested in Timbits the beagle, who has joined the small dog group for daycare a few times this week. Jack motored around behind Timbits, picking up the good smells that Timbits was able to sniff out with his beagle nose. Meanwhile, Maggie was saying hello to a brand new group member, a very small girl in a pink sweater. Maggie gave her a good sniff from head to toe, and watched as her new little friend started to run around the yard in excitement. Maggie wasn’t quite ready to run around after her, so she went over to see Jack again. I ushered Jack and Maggie through the gate and over to the agility jump, and Maggie flew over it right away! She showed off her acrobatic skills until Jack mustered up the courage to have a try at the jump, and he hopped right over the bar like a pro! It was lovely to spend time having fun in the yard with Jack and Maggie on a beautiful day like today. When we went inside, Jack and Maggie excitedly gobbled up their lunchtime treats and laid down for a rest until afternoon group and extra attention time. Jack and Maggie are the cutest little cookie monsters; these two will do anything for a treat. They joined me up front right after they came inside from their outdoor play group. They did a quick sniff of the room before hoping up on the chair hoping for a cuddle. I grabbed a handful of cookies and they immediately perked up and begged with sweet puppy eyes. I gave them a couple while they sat on the chair, then I thought we would try the treat puzzle since they seemed so interested in eating. I broke up a couple of cookie's into the hidden compartments and let them have a sniff. Both Maggie and Jack knew their was goodies in the puzzle, but didn't know how to get them. I helped them out a little and soon Maggie was pushing the compartments around with her nose to get the treats out. Jack was a little more hesitant, although he still really wanted the treats so I helped him by opening them and showing him where to get it. They enjoyed this game and soon it was time to go have a little snooze in their cozy beds until next group time.

Little Lexie joined the small dog group last night and she spent lots of time getting to know everyone today. When we went out into the yard for group time after her walk, Lexie went and gazed out into the field through the fence. She wandered along the fence line with her nose to the ground, sniffing around at the rocks and all of the hidden scents. Lexie came across another busy nose, which belonged to Jack the schnauzer. Jack was also sniffing his way along the rocks and grass, and they both stopped to say hello before continuing on their way. I went to sit with Lexie to see if she’d like some pets, and her active little nose found some treats in my pocket! She sat down immediately to see if I might give her a snack. Lexie was in luck, and I had her sit a few times and pose for some pictures for her prize. Eventually she made her way back around towards the door to inside, where she greeted a few more new pals from her group before heading in for a mid-day snooze. Lexie was quite an excited girl when it came to her extra attention time today! She raced right up to the front reception and was happy to see that Katie was sitting up front ready to greet her. Lexie jumped her front paws right onto Katie's lap and gave her a quick kiss before coming back to me. I gave Lexie a few treats before we decided to go exploring outside. Lexie couldn't have been happier to trot outside and into the freshly cut grass. She spent a good amount of time sniffing in the grass before I got her running around with me. Lexie and I jogged around the front for awhile before we went back inside for some cuddle time. I sat up on one of our big comfy chairs and had Lexie sitting up on my lap. She definitely enjoyed the back and chin scratch I gave her.

Coco and Timbits started their Friday morning with a walk around the trail with a new small dog friend. They kept her sniffers very busy in the grass along the path and circled around to say hello to their walking buddy here and there. During group time, Timbits went out into the grassy yard and got his nose and paws nice and dirty right off the bat. Coco, on the other hand, took a seat in the sunshine and closed her eyes to soak it all in. She absolutely loves these warm sunny days! As Timbits went further and further out into the yard, Coco got up from her tanning spot and joined her brother in the grass. She hopped up onto the picnic table, getting as high up as she could to take in more sunshine. She only hopped down when she saw that I had a cookie in my hand! I lured Coco and Timbits over to the agility jump with the cookies and started hopping back and forth over the bar, hoping they would follow. Timbits jumped as high as his little legs would take him, but it wasn’t quite high enough, and the bar fell off the jump. I lowered it to the next rung and this time he jumped over a few times in a row! Coco wasn’t as easily convinced to join, though and went back to her sunny spot by the fence.

Tasha had so much fun today! She took part in a couple of different playgroups and walks throughout the day. Tasha has such a bold personality that she can be playful and confident with just about anyone! Tasha met a new admirer in one of her groups, a pointer named Tango. She and Tango literally danced around the yard together, from one end to the other. Tango would sniff Tasha’s ear, and she would get very frisky and start to pounce on him. Tango play-bowed to his new best friend and dashed in short spurts around her, encouraging Tasha to pounce back. This went on for most of their group time, and they had a few other dogs join in the games here and there. Tasha also took part in a group with her daughter, Kimi and the two young huskies, Icarus and Lola. Later on in the afternoon, Tasha joined Clifford the Golden Retriever for her second trail walk on this beautiful day.

Since Max and Sadie are such great listeners when we do training in the playroom, we did some work outside in the yard instead. I let Max and Sadie sniff around and play a little bit before asking them to settle down and focus. They weren’t in full play-mode yet, so both Max and Sadie listened very nicely and sat in the grass in front of me. I asked Max to stay put, while I let Sadie wander around and sniff along the fence like she always does. Max wanted very badly to go and join her, but he listened like a good boy and stayed in his down position. After a few minutes I let Max go and join Sadie while I went and got one of their toys. They were both so excited to chase the toy and started to wrestle with one another, too. I let them go for a minute before calling them back to me once again, getting their focus on work instead of play. We did this a few more times before Max and Sadie were free to play for the rest of our outing. They wrestled, raced and played catch until they were ready to sit in the shade. It was such a beautiful day, I think Sadie could have laid by the fence for hours!
