It’s always so lovely to see Gracie here for another stay
with us! After a wet morning walk, Gracie was ready to get out into the yard
and greet her group. She spent the first little while getting accustomed to the
new smells, letting her nose lead her through the new sprouts of grass and
eventually to each of the other dogs. Gracie watched as Magic and Justice the
Huskies started to bounce around and play, but she wasn’t quite ready to join
in yet. She watched Oreo and Molly chase after a toy, and Barley splash around
in the puddle before coming to see me for a little pet on the head. Suddenly, Gracie shot off like a bolt of lightning across the yard, kicking up
water and grass behind her. Gracie leapt on Justice’s back, letting him know
that she was ready to get silly! He ran through the tunnel, and Gracie didn’t
hesitate for a second before following him through at top speed. The pair did a
few laps around the yard, going through the tunnel each time with a few other
friends tagging along for the fun. Gracie even showed off her acrobatic skills
and walked along the top of the tunnel, where she met Justice, who was standing
on the ground at the end of it. She pawed his head and hopped down to continue
their run around. Gracie certainly didn’t let this rainy weather stand in the
way of a great first day! Gracie was so happy to spend some extra attention time
with me today. She’s been spending her stay in the cozy kitchen so that’s where
I began her extra attention. Gracie couldn’t stop wagging her tail when I
entered the room. However, she wouldn’t get up which showed me that she wanted
me to come snuggle with her on her bed. As soon as I sat down, Gracie came over
to me right away in order to share some kisses. After greeting me, Gracie laid
back down and waited for some TLC. I gave Gracie a long belly rub, back scratch
and chin scratch which she seemed to really enjoy. After a bit more cuddling,
Gracie was ready to do the training part or her extra attention. I started with
the simple tricks that Gracie already knows. She showed me that she knew how to
sit, lay down, shake paw and jump for her treats. Afterwards we tried a few
tricks that were a bit more difficult such as rollover, sit pretty and place. I
had Gracie place on a cot in the hallway for a couple minutes and she waited right
there until I told her to come to me. What a good girl. Before finishing her
extra attention we grabbed a couple more treats.
April is such a big cuddly bear! She met some new friends
out in the yard today, but I seemed to be her favourite pal! We walked around
the yard together, moseying along and watching the other dogs as they played
and explored. April peeked her head into the agility tunnel to give it a sniff,
and when she turned back around another friend was standing next to her. April
and Juno the Rottweiler mix sniffed each others’ noses and were soon joined by
Fez the lab. Fez and Juno eventually paired off, so April went to explore some
more in the longer grass by the wooden fence. She seems to be getting used to
her daycare routine!
Nymeria wasn’t too bothered at all by the rainy
weather today, and marched right out into the yard. Nymeria is such a playful girl! She went
around to say hello to all of the other dogs as soon as we set foot in the
yard. She fluttered around to each friend like the social butterfly that she
is. She connected immediately with Nyxx, a fellow Husky, and they spent lots of
time wrestling and romping around together. Nymeria then perched herself up on
one of the big rocks and scouted out her next play partner. She locked eyes
with Tsavo the German Shepherd and flew across the yard to see if she was ready
to play. Tsavo was in for some fun and the girls chased one another back and
forth across the yard. After group time and a little rest in her kennel,
Nymeria joined me in the reception area for some one-on-one fun. She was very
intrigued by the cat tree that was sitting up against the wall, and stood up
with her paws on the cubby to give it a good sniff. I took out lots of stuffed
toys and a ball, which she found even more exciting than the tree! We played
with the ball until Katie picked up a stuffed toy, and Nymeria went racing over
to grab it. She played with lots of different ones throughout our time
together, but her favourite seemed to be the purple pony. After her extra
attention time, Nymeria headed out into the yard for another round of fun with
her friends Nyxx, Tsavo and the rest of the group!
I first saw Fez and Rex’s smiling faces as they walked
through the door this morning. They’re always super eager to get back into the
routine and have lots of fun with their friends! Fez spent the first little
while wandering around the yard and saying hello to all of his new buddies.
Rex, on the other hand, couldn’t wait to get running around and stretching his
legs. I found a bone toy on the ground and offered it to Rex, which he gladly
grabbed and started to run around. He brought it back around to me and dropped
it at my feet so I could throw it. Rex was so eager to catch the toy that if I
even moved a muscle or lifted my hand, he went bolting off to try and catch the
toy that I hadn’t yet thrown. After lots of rounds of fetch, Rex went to have a
little explore around the yard. Meanwhile, Fez had made a new friend during his
time spent roaming around. He met Juno the Rottweiler mix, and he absolutely
loved her! I could tell it was love at first sight for Fez because he stayed
two steps behind her wherever Juno went. She came to see me for a pet and Fez
was glued to her side, ready for a head scratch, too. She sat next to me for a
bit, and Fez stayed put right next to her, resting his head on her back and
nuzzling her ear. They’re quite the adorable pair! Juno eventually decided it
was play time, though and she set her sights on none other than Rex! Rex and
his new pal play bowed to one another, pouncing and running around in
excitement. Gryphon the Bernese also joined the play crew, while Fez went for
another wander around. This time, he found a great big rain puddle and plopped
himself down right in the middle! Rex and I went over to see if Fez would like
to get up from the puddle, but he was quite content to sit there for a second
before we went in to dry off.
Much fun was had with our Husky friends here today! Boris
and Tasha started off with a wet walk along the trail with their new small dog
friend, Resa. They walked along beautifully together! Kimi was paired up with
two friends, Tsavo the Shepherd and Charlotte the Golden. Later on when group
time rolled around, Boris, Tasha and Kimi met up to play! Boris, Tasha and Kimi
were the life of the party with their group, and it was so great to watch. At
first, Tasha did her usual rounds of the yard and sniffed out all of the good
smells. We were in the yard with the agility tunnel, which we haven’t used for
a couple of weeks due to weather. Today was the day to open it back up, though,
and there were plenty of good smells to catch up on. Kimi was also making her
rounds of this yard that she hadn’t seen in a while. Boris interrupted Kimi,
pawing her playfully to see if she was up for some fun. Kimi sort of looked at
him sideways, but pawed him back. He left her to wander some more and went to
meet up with Tasha and Lola. They immediately started up a wrestling match and
Kimi flew over to join in, too! The four Huskies and Merida whipped back and
forth around the yard, through the puddles, through and over the tunnel as fast
as their feet could carry them. Boris stopped the chase and jumped up on top of
the tunnel, where Lola, Tasha and Kimi all circled and jumped up to paw at him.
Boris eventually jumped down and started leading the chase all over again. They
congregated at the edge of the tunnel once again, and the four Huskies stood
around as if they were having a meeting. It didn’t last long, though before
they were running and wrestling again. It was so great to see Kimi enjoying a
play session with her Mama Tasha and half-brother Boris!
Finnigan couldn’t have been more excited to
spend his day in the staff room with Golden girls Charly and Merida. It has
been a while since he has seen his best pal Charly and they wasted no time
getting down into wrestling mode. Every time I walked by, Finn was on his back
excitedly pawing at Charly who was trying to get him from above, we are going
to have two sleepy dogs by the end of the day! And as if he didn’t burn enough
energy from playing with Charly all day long, they continued the fun outside but
this time by trying to steal the toys away from one another. They also joined
the group wrestle between Tsavo, Stella and Nymeria who were whipping up a
storm around them. Finn was one soggy dog when he came back inside, but
couldn’t be bothered and continued to play the rest of his day away!
The small dog group weren’t as eager as
Finn was to head outside in all of that rain and it took some time to get them
all out the door. But only for a quick pee then I led them back inside and into
the playroom where they could play and relax in the warmth! Jack and Maggie
remembered this place from their extra attention session yesterday and made
themselves right at home. They both jumped up onto the couch and sat there
together as the rest of the small ones were playing below them. They thought it
was best that they stay out of the way from daycare pals Cloud and Tag who were
whipping around the room in excitement! But Maggie especially has a playful
side and she couldn’t help but jump down and join the bunch, curious to see
what was going on. Jack couldn’t be bothered, he was quite content staying
exactly where he was and was enjoying his time on the couch; what a sweet pair
these two are! Jack and Maggie were just the cutest little snuggle
bugs this afternoon! We all hung out together in the reception area after
groups for their extra attention time. I laid out a comfy pillow and towel to
lounge on, and Jack took full advantage of it! He laid down next to me and I
gave him a good back scratch, while Maggie roamed around the room and explored.
She sniffed the toy bin and all of the stuffies that were already laying on the
floor, and then came over to see Jack and I. While Jack was content to lay down
next to me, Maggie wanted to be right up on my lap, and would sneak a few cheek
kisses in, too! We all sat together for some pets and cuddles, keeping cozy together
on this rainy day.
Cloud was just in his glory in that
playroom, so many toys to play with and friends to engage with, it was the
perfect morning spent! He got so excited at one point, that he literally
started running circles around the room, this got the attention of both Keegan
and Tag and soon enough they were hot on his trail trying to keep up with him!
It was so great to see Keegan have so much desire to play, he is usually one to
stay close to your side for affection but playful Cloud just has that ability
to bring the frisky side out of anyone, and he did just that for Keegan. Keegan
was smiling from ear to ear as he tried to keep up and much preferred to be
inside with free range of the playroom with so many new scents and smells to take
in! Much like Keegan, Tag was anxiously trying to keep up with Cloud and they
made the perfect playful trio! I could see Jack and Maggie’s head circle round
and round as they tried to keep up with the three of them as they darted in and
around the room! Tag loves when she can bounce back and forth between the big
and small dog groups, but she especially loves her time spent with the small
ones. She has so much love to give and energy to expend and brings such a joy
to her groups. As for Cloud, we are sad that this is his last day with us but
he went out with a bang and we hope to see him soon. Keegan will especially
miss Cloud, but was happy to spend the day with him and was pooped by the time
he headed back to his kennel and was thankful for the quiet time to rest up
before he went back out to do it all over again!
Keegan was very excited once again for his extra
attention time. He was ready to do all sorts of tricks for me today after
running up to the front reception. Once he got up there he quickly greeted
Katie but came back to me for some treats. Keegan showed off a little bit
today. He showed me his handsome sits and laid down a few times before showing
me his extra good tricks. Keegan then jumped up when I asked him to and even
sat pretty a couple times. Good boy Keegan! Seems as though he’ll do any trick
as long as a treat is involved. After this, I brought out a purple ball for him
to play with. Usually he just sniffs it and then moves on to something else but today he was quite playful. Keegan chased after the ball a
few times if I threw it across the room. We ended his extra attention time with
snuggles up on one of the comfy chairs and of course a chin scratch that Keegan
loved.
