Jack and Maggie sure were sprightly first thing this morning! We went straight outside to explore the front field and they were practically hopping about at first. Then they settled down to some good sniffing, exploring and other business. Jack had a wonderful chance to take his time and explore again a little later during his walk time, but he just wanted to go, go, go so we hopped to it and I followed him around the field and up the driveway. Maggie had her own walk with two other friends and she enjoyed every moment as well. For their extra attention time, they joined me up front and explored the reception area before we cuddled for a little while and Maggie got a little crazy with a few different stuffies, leaping and shaking them with great enthusiasm. Jack stood close to me so that I could give him lots of pets. We then practiced some sits for treats and Maggie was excellent but Jack wasn't comfortable sitting so he did a few tricks for me by standing on his hind legs.

Kouza's extra attention time was a little distracted at first because I had done some training right before and she could smell the treats in my pocket. I sweet talked her and scratched her head and neck and the next thing I knew I was getting Kouza kisses everywhere - cheek kisses, neck kisses, nose kisses. We then practiced some obedience work and Kouza happily lay down and hopped up for treats, offering me each paw, hoping that she would be rewarded for every wave of her paw.

Mercedey did not let the rain bother her one bit today!  As soon as I opened her kennel door she was eager to get outside.  Once outside she met a few new dogs through the fence, and she was sure to give them the full sniff treatment.  We had one of the yards gated off this afternoon since the rain had made it one giant mud pit.  Mercedey was not pleased by this and tried her hardest to escape underneath the gate to go and play.  Fortunately for us she was unsuccessful.  After she had officially given up on getting into the mud she came over to me to visit for awhile.  She sat right on my feet as I gave her some special pets.  She was more than happy to sit there until another dog came along and stole some of her attention.  Mercedey then wandered off with a dog-named Joey.  Joey is a very gentle dog and he enjoyed sniffing around the yard with her by his side.  After all that she willingly came inside and laid back down in her kennel for some rest.

Kimi wasn't sure what to think of the rain when she first stepped outside.  A group of three other dogs were having a big play during their group rotation but Kimi was more interested in being by herself today.  She walked around the entire yard taking in all the smells.  After a little while she did grow particularly fond of the company of a young Golden Retriever named Charlotte.  Charlotte is a very playful dog and would roll right onto her back to allow Kimi to sniff her.  I think Kimi took a special liking to Charlotte because she allowed her to be the dominant one.  Kimi can be quite playful at times but will let other dogs know when she has had enough.  Kimi listened very well when being called back into her kennel after the group was done, perhaps it was because she knew her lunchtime treat was coming!

Maggie was so full of energy today Jack couldn’t keep up with her!   As soon as I let Maggie outside she was determined to find someone to play with her.  I tried to get some good pictures of her in action but she was running around so fast it was impossible to get a good shot.  Another dog that loves to play named Chase began to get in on the action, running after her through both yards.  Jack had a good time outside as well today only his was a little more low key.  He took more joy in staying close to my side and getting some extra attention.  Although he did venture off with Maggie for a short while when the two went on a sniffing expedition.  After their time outside the pair retired to their special place in the kitchen.  It is less noisy than some of the other kennels.  I think the twosome really enjoys being a little bit separate from all the action.

As always Kouza immediately began to sniff around the yard as soon as she got outside.  Generally she stays in the yard closest to the door to go back inside and does not venture too far from here.  However today she must have been feeling adventurous because she walked into the second yard and made it all the way to the gate we use to take them into the field for walks.  I was quite impressed.  She even made her way all the way back to the door where she waited patiently to go back into her cozy bed with a dog-named Julie.  Julie tends not to stray too far away from the door as well so the two find themselves side by side quite frequently.  Julie does not jump on Kouza or try and sniff her too much so I think she genuinely enjoys her company.  Sometimes its nice just to have a buddy close to you.

Lexi is really coming out of her shell today, especially outside in the yard.  She is always the first one out into the farthest yard to make sure she gets to be the first to explore. She loves to bury her nose in the long grass along the fence and around the rocks. She was feeling particularly cuddly today as I had bent down to pet another dog and she darted from a different yard to greet me.  Lexie jumped up onto my leg and proceeded to give multiple kisses. Today was my first day meeting her, and I was so happy to see her open up to me! After she had finished giving kisses she immediately turned around and sure enough she was looking for pets. Lexi sure does love her bum scratches. She would have let me continue all afternoon, but we went inside a little bit later for a rest. She was happy when I came back to get her a little bit later for her extra attention time, where she had many more opportunities for pets and cuddles!
