Kai had lots of pep in her step today. She was eager to get outside for her walk and waited patiently at her kennel door while I got the dogs ready. Once we started on our way, Kai took the lead and bounded along the trail with her friends Tsavo and Stella trotting after her. There was plenty of exciting smells for Kai to check out and she spent a while poking her nose in the grass. She then paused mid-stride to flop over and wriggle around on her back. After the walk, it was soon time for groups and Kai was bouncing out the door after the rest of the dogs. She wandered a lap of the yard to sniff everything and say hello to her group, then hurried over to see what I was doing. Kai politely posed for some pictures, and was happy to show off by giving me her paw. Her group was fairly laid back today so Kai spent most of her time exploring and socializing with the others. In between her adventures around the yard, Kai made sure to stop and see me often. She loves her cuddles, that’s for sure! We snuggled for a bit, Kai leaning against my legs while I pet her ears, and then Kai went off to continue trotting around the yard.
Kai was delighted to come up front for her extra attention today. She bounded down the hallway with a big grin on her face and immediately got to work exploring the reception. She has been up here plenty though everyday there are new smells for her to check out. Kai said hello to Julie and then sniffed a few of the toys that were lying around. She proudly performed some tricks in return for a couple of treats. Then Kai sat down to cuddle with me. When Tiffani came up front to join us, Kai was glued to her side and happily soaked up all of the attention she was getting!

Nanook started his day off with a walk, alongside his friends Bella and Jake. The three of them were super excited to be outside and they were zigzagging all over the trail. Nanook must have picked up an interesting scent because he was leaping back and forth, following his nose. He then trotted ahead and took the lead as we made our way down the trail. Nanook seemed to be quite energetic today, and during his group later in the morning, he was bouncing around with the others as soon as they stepped foot out the door. They wasted no time sniffing out the treat crumbs in my pocket and soon I had a group of dogs sitting around my feet. Once everybody had gotten a little piece, most of them wandered off again, although Nanook stuck right by my side. He was sitting so politely and eagerly awaiting another reward, so I tossed him a couple more treats and Nanook happily jumped up to catch them out of the air. Once my pockets were emptied, he snuggled with me and enjoyed a nice back rub. Then Nanook headed out to explore the yard and see what his friends were up to. Bella and Jake were busy running around, so Nanook decided to sit back and watch them chase each other.
For his extra attention today, Nanook and I headed up to the reception. He happily said hello to his friend Julie, and then made a beeline for the treat jar. Nanook showed off his manners by sitting and laying down for a reward. After that, he explored the room and hopped up on the chair, where we cuddled for a while. Julie was nosing through the toy bin and found a squeaky ball, which of course had them both very excited. Nanook leaped after it every time I threw it, and then proudly carried it around in his mouth while Julie cheered him on.

Reese was his happy go lucky self today. He didn’t seem to notice to weather at all and continued to bring some energy into everything he did. Reese was excited to meet up with his friend Sophie, as it was time for his walk. He got to meet our volunteer Eric and immediately became his best friend. After a few kisses, Reese tore down the hallway and was ready to start walking. Reese was so cute on his walk because he kept looking up at Eric with this huge grin on his face. Shortly after walks, it was time for Reese’s extra attention. Just as excited, Reese was waiting by his kennel door, as he knew that it must be time for him to come up front with me. Sure enough he bounced out of his kennel and kept me on my toes as I tried to keep up with him. By the time I got to the front, Reese had already taken out three toys from the toy bin; two bright green balls and a Frisbee. I decided to bring those outside with us for him to play with. Reese helped me carry the toys by picking up both balls for me. I thought I had lost one of them before I realized that they were simply both in his mouth. We took off into the front field and I hooked Reese up to the extra long leash. Reese loved the freedom he was getting and definitely took advantage of it. Before I knew it he was at the end of the leash, sniffing as far and as wide as he could possibly go. After a little while of searching for smells, I showed Reese the toys we had brought out and he trotted over to me right away. The two of us played fetch for quite some time. Sometimes Reese would break to sniff once more but his focus was mostly on the ball. After playing fetch, it was time for a game of tug-of-war with the Frisbee. Reese won our games of tug-of-war every single time, he’s so strong! When it was time for his long outdoor playgroup, Reese had already gotten all of his energy back from a quick nap that he took in his kennel. He was ready to go outside and play once more. Reese ran around each yard a few times as soon as he got outside. He made sure to greet everyone that passed before coming to me with another ball in his mouth. I though that he had had enough of fetch but apparently not. I threw the ball countless times for him but he never seemed to want to pick it up and bring it back, he simply wanted to chase after it. Reese also enjoyed the company of his new friend Lola. She’s still just a puppy and Reese was almost as playful as her. He loved following her around the yard and play bowed towards her as well. There were a few times were Reese would try to pounce on top of Lola but she was a bit too quick for him to catch.
