Allie is always ready for a visit. At lunchtime I went in to see her and she just knew it was time to play! Allie was snoozing the day away until she heard the door open. She hopped down from her perch and was by my side immediately, rubbing against my leg and meowing as loud as she could. I picked up her favorite blue cat toy and the two of us played with it for quite some time. Allie loved swinging at the toy as I hung it from the air. She kept trying to jump up at it with her two front paws up in the air, claws fully out and in play mode. Half of the time Allie was successful in catching the toy and sometimes she'd need a second jump in order to get it. After we were done playing, I brought Allie back up onto her perch for some cuddle time. I gave her a very long chin scratch but she just couldn't get enough of it. Eventually she was ready for an afternoon snack and gobbled up a few special treats.
Chloe and Kane first met up this morning at walk time. They
always love seeing each other on Wednesdays and today was no exception! Each
time either of them would stop to sniff on the trail, the other would look back
and bounce over to get a good look, too. Chloe play-bowed and pounced on Kane
as we walked, but I told her she’d have more room to play a little bit later in
the yard during group time. After their walk and a short rest time in their
kennels, Chloe and Kane met back up in the yard and started up their usual
games. The pair flew around the gates into each yard as fast as their long legs
would carry them. They ran a few laps together and then branched off to see
what was new and exciting around the yard. Kane saw me holding a ball and slid
to a stop at my feet with one ear flipped back, since it had been flapping in
the wind as he ran. He hopped up and down in excitement, waiting for me to
throw the ball. He chased after it as it flew across the yard but left it on
the ground after catching it. We played Kane’s version of fetch for a while
until he noticed that Chloe had made a new friend and went over to greet her
too. Chloe, Kane and their new Husky friends Lotus and Moka started zooming
across the yard as a pack! Eventually, Kane left the chase in search of yet
another new friend, and that’s when he came across Oakley. The pair nuzzled one
another and wagged their tails full tilt. I tried to encourage them both to
follow me and give the agility jump a try, but only Kane was in the mood to
practice his skills. He flew back and forth over the jump, sometimes with me
joining him, until it was time to head back inside for a rest.
Miss Oakley started her morning with a lovely trail walk with her pals Sophie and Bear. The sun was shining and she pointed her nose to the sky to take in some rays and any smells that caught the breeze. She stopped here and there to roll around in the long grass like she loves to do. Later on, she was the first one out in the yard for her group time. Oakley happily greeted the other dogs as they made their way out the door to join her. She knew some friendly faces from weeks past, but was particularly interested in meeting our foster Huskies Lotus and Moka. These girls are meeting new friends every day, and Oakley gave them a very warm welcome. She then bumped into Justice, who was following his nose around the grassy area at the side of the building. Oakley joined Justice in his search for interesting scents, until she saw me pull a treat from my pocket. She zipped over to my side, where she sat for some head scratches, and of course her liver treat. Oakley and I watched some of the other dogs as they ran around the yard, until Kane the Weimaraner came to greet us. Kane nuzzled Oakley's cheek and gave her lots of kisses, which had her feeling flirty! She wagged her tail and hopped around on the spot with Kane for a moment, until he took off running again. Oakley was happy to spend some time next to me and sniffing around in the grass for the rest of her group time.
It was so lovely to see DJ and Tinkerbell for daycare today!
We started the morning with a nice walk around the trail with another friend,
Resa. DJ and Tink spent most of their walk with their noses glued to the
ground, sniffing along at patches of grass and along the edges of puddles.
After their walk, the pair didn’t have to wait long until it was time to head
out into the yard for some playtime. Tinkerbell stuck close by me and enjoyed
some head scratches and pets, while DJ went to say hello to his new friends. He
found one friend with whom he connected immediately. Finnigan the doodle was a
perfect match for DJ’s energy level and play style, and the boys flew back and
forth across the yard together. They only stopped running to wrestle around
with Timbits the beagle. Tinkerbell watched her silly brother as he hustled and
bustled around, and I snuck her a little liver treat before anyone else
noticed. Meanwhile, Finnigan was being a goofball and started rolling around on
the ground while DJ play-bowed and pounced around him. This set the boys off on
yet another big chase around the yard, until Finnigan came across a Frisbee and
sat down with it. I picked it up and started throwing the toy for him until he
stopped bringing it back to me.
Timbits was full of beans during his group time today! He
joined fellow daycare buddies Finnigan and DJ in lots of rumble tumble
wrestling matches around the yard. He loved how quick the boys ran across the
yard, and flew after them to catch up and get in on the action. Meanwhile, I
went to say hello to lovely lady Coco, who was watching the other dogs run
around with her new friend Tinkerbell. I gave Coco and Tink a little treat
while their brothers played, but they must have caught a whiff of the liver as
they ran past and all circled around in hopes of a little snack. They were in
luck, and everyone got a little smidgen of liver treat. After all of the
commotion subsided, Timbits went back to playing and Coco found a nice spot to
sit and watch for the rest of her time outside.
Pippin had a lovely morning trail walk with his daycare
friends Coco and Timbits, shortly after arriving this morning. He was full of
energy and motored along in the lead along the path. His walking buddies were
Beagles with very busy noses, who stopped frequently along the way. Pippin kept
his focus forward, though and was eager to keep marching along when they were
finished sniffing. Later on in the yard, Pippin was full of beans again! He
howled his adorable little howl when he saw me pick up a Frisbee from the
ground. He jumped up and down in excitement, with his little ears flapping up
and down with each hop. He chased after the Frisbee when I threw it, but came
across a ball along the way. The ball was a little bit too big for Pippin to
pick up, so he went back to the Frisbee instead. Finnigan came over and scooped
the toy up, though which sent Pippin chasing after him. This boy sure loves his
toys!
Kai met a new friend out in the yard today, a husky named
Silver. He just arrived this morning and she went immediately to greet him once
she laid eyes upon him. She sniffed him thoroughly and then placed her chin on
his back, almost like she was giving him a hug! He continued on his way, saying
hello to the other dogs, while Kai went over to the tunnel to have a sniff
around there. She followed her nose past the tunnel and onto the big rock,
where she stood for a few minutes surveying the other dogs as they roamed
around the yard. Suddenly, some clouds moved in and it started to pour rain, so
we ran together to the cover of the outdoor kennel. Kai squeezed under the
overhang next to Merida, and the girls stood there together to stay dry. The
rain only lasted a few minutes, thankfully and we emerged from the outdoor
kennel to continue our group time. Kai always enjoys her extra attention time,
but today I decided to change it up a little. Since we have been spending so
much time outside with the nice weather I gave her brain some work to do this
afternoon. I filled up the treat puzzle with treats and let her figure it out,
pawing and nosing at the moving pieces. This game isn’t very hard for her but
she really enjoys the rewards she gets in the end. She sat pretty and gave me
her paw for a couple more cookies before Tiffani came and got her for her next
group outing.
Beauty is really coming out of her shell. Yesterday I took
her into the playroom and after a few minutes of sniffing around I caught her
attention with some yummy treats. She spit it out a few times before giving
into the yumminess. Once she realized how tasty the treats were, she was my
best friend. I had her follow me around the room asking for sit, paw and down.
I learned very quickly that down is not something Beauty does. I tried a few
times before moving onto place on the cot. She liked this much better and I had
her sit on the cot and move around her while she stayed on it. Today she was a
little distracted at first and didn’t want my treats, but soon remembered from
yesterday that they were a good thing. She came to her name when I called her,
sat when asked and of course gave her paw to me. I focused on getting to lay
down. Baby steps, but I think she will get the hang of it soon. While luring
her into a down position her bum would pop out of a sit yesterday, whereas
today she learned that she had to stay sitting and followed the treat with her
nose. I convinced her to move one foot forward and to reach for the treat.
Small progress, but I’m sure once she understands what I want her to do, we won’t
be able to stop her (:
Beauty has been having a fabulous time in our care, everyday
she is opening up more and more and we are seeing her silly side come out!
Today she enjoyed her morning trail walk with little pals Amber and Iris and
she really enjoyed the company and the chance to meet some new faces. Beauty
loves to stretch out her long legs while sniffing out the grassy trail. A short
while later she met up with Amber and Iris again outside for a group session.
She also got to meet Dudley, Abby and Resa. Beauty did fantastic in her group,
although still a little shy, she let everyone come over and say hello and she
was overwhelmed with all the kindness! Iris didn’t hesitate one bit to run over
and say hello to Beauty, even little Amber ran over to introduce herself! These
two sisters were the perfect pair for Beauty to interact with, because they are
both so calm and lovable! Iris must have smelt something nice in the grass,
because she decided to flop over on her back and have a few exciting grass
rolls. Then Resa and Abby thought that they would give it a try; Amber didn’t
think that was the best idea! However, she got very excited when her sister was
rolling around in the grass, she started howling in amusement!
Max and Sadie were quite the cuddly pair this morning
outside in the yard. Max traded in his usual laps around the yard for some head-rubs
by my side. And Sadie wasn’t to be found on top of her favorite picnic table or
rocks; she preferred to lounge out in the gravel yard under leafy tree but I
was able to entice her over for a few cuddles as well. They seemed unusually
calm this morning, so I decided to see if I could get a rise out of them by
enticing them with the red Frisbee. They both investigated the Frisbee for a
bit but much preferred to lounge out and cuddle for most of the morning.
Teddie and Kizmet were once again paired with best brother
pals Rex and Fez for a morning of fun out in the sun. But perhaps the focus of
everyone’s attention was Bear; everyone wanted to play with Bear today! Rex and
Kizmet followed Bear over to the grassy yard and this immediately led to a
great big wrestle. Teddie heard all of the commotion from the adjacent yard and
raced over to join in on the fun. Fez couldn’t miss out either, although a
little bit slower then the rest, he sure did power through and eventually made
his way over to the group. At this point everyone had joined in, even ladies
Sophie and Birdie wanted to join the guys, it looked liked so much fun! Eventually
Sophie and Birdie grew tired of the rambunctious boys; Birdie showed me how
agile she was and leaped over the jump with ease. Sophie wanted to show me that
she could do it too, and there she went flying in the air. It was so much fun
that she did it a couple more times! I knew Birdie would enjoy playing some fetch,
so I found the orange ring for her. She excitedly pranced around with it in her
mouth but this got the attention of toy fanatic Rex. Rex darted after Birdie
and soon the whole gang had made there way back over to the gravel yard,
including Ted, Kiz and of course fearless Fez. The group wrestle only continued
over in this yard, Kiz would start to wrestle with Bear, then Teddie would jump
up on his brothers back at the same time, these two are inseparable!
