Groups
Max, Sadie, Percy, and Kyah all headed out to do a little exploring. It wasn't long before Max and Percy were asking to run around with Magic. The boys were then distracted by something in the grass and spent some time sniffing around and exploring the yard. Kyah spotted Finnigan in the hole and went over to investigate. She was then joined by Max, which of course peaked Sadie's interest and she hopped over to join in as well. Shortly after Sadie arrived, Max went bouncing off to see about getting Magic to play some more. Percy, not one to miss out on fun, tagged along. It wasn't long before Sadie wanted to join in as well. The tables turned and soon Sadie found herself the center of Max and Percy's attention. They took off racing around the yard with a little wrestling thrown in for good measure. After a little while everyone needed a break to it was time for some more exploring. Kyah and Magic started to play which caught Percy's eye and then Max's. Percy then decided he wanted to try and convince the others to play in the tunnel. He ran through a bunch of times and barked in excitement.
The first group of little dogs were next to make their way out the door. Some of them were ready to play as soon as they got out into the yard, though some had their noses to the ground pretty much instantly. Maya headed right out to the far yard and stood waiting for the others to join her. Flora made her way out a little ways into the yard then stopped to watch as Cooper, Miko and Merlin started to racing around and wrestling. Pearl set off with her nose to the ground while Lola tagged along and watched Cooper, Miko, and Merlin's antics. Rocky sat himself down in a nice sunny patch by the door. From there he could see pretty much the whole yard and everyone in it. Maya wasn't alone in the far yard long, when along came Miko, Cooper, Merlin, Pearl and Lola to join her. Flora and Rocky decided to hang back in the main yard. Miko was hoping that when they got out to the far yard Cooper and Merlin would still want to play, but they were distracted by all the grass and set off to do some exploring like Pearl and Lola. Cooper and Merlin took little breaks from their exploring to visit with me. Cooper then went running off to racing around with Maya. While they were racing around Flora finally decided to join us. She followed Lola's lead and started with some exploring along the fence line. Cooper left Maya too see what Merlin was up to. The two of them then ended up by me and practically wrestling on top of me. Miko, tired of running around by himself, went bouncing off to see about getting Pearl to play with him. Pearl declined his invitation and went to join Lola. Cooper and Merlin left me to go and see if Flora wanted to play. They bounced around with her for a while before running Merlin ran off to play with Miko and Cooper went back to Maya, while Lola stood in the background, watching everyone. She then decided she needed to relax and sunbathe. This caught Maya's eye who went over to check on her. After Maya left, Miko went over to see Lola as well. After all the racing finished, we retreated to the shade to cool down for a bit. Flora and Rocky weren't having any of that and were happy to still enjoy the sunshine.
Next up it was the second group of little guys. They all made their way outside where they paused to say hi to one another. With that done, they split up to check out the main yard. Apple didn't waste any time in making her way out to the far yard. She then headed right for the rocks in the corner and started to thoroughly check them out and help herself to some grass. Casper, William, Sky, and Brie were happy to explore the main yard for the moment. Eventually they saw everything they wanted to see and joined Apple in the far yard. Apple was still very interested in all the rock's secrets. The rest were all quick to resume their exploring, too. Brie and Sky went around the far yard a couple times before returning to the main yard. Sky set off to wander around the yard while Brie found herself very interested in a scent on the breeze. She spent quite some time with her nose lifted to the air. Casper and William decided they were done with the far yard as well and trotting off to the main yard to join the others. The boys stuck to together and headed off to see if they had missed anything the first time round. Apple then decided to come and join myself and a few other friends back in the main yard. She soon ended up in another corner where she helped herself to some more grass. Sky checked in with Casper and William before making his way over by his sister. Apple ended up walking over next to him and then having herself a little roll in the grass. Casper and William headed over in my direction for some loving. Brie, now done with the interesting scent, decided she'd like some love to and came over to get some as well.
Cooper was being so entertaining during his group outside. He was being so energetic and playful with all the dogs and really got everybody in a good mood today. When he first got outside, he took a tour around the yard quickly before he ran up to each dog for a sniff. He was seeing who was interested in playing with him and the dogs that got excited and showed interest made him excited himself. He found a pink frisbee on the ground as he was running around and scooped it up as he passed it to show it off to everyone in his group. As he was showing it off, Ceaser saw him with it from across the yard and trotted right over to see if he could steal it. Luckily for Caesar, Cooper got distracted by Kai and dropped it as Ceaser was running over to go and see her. Ceaser was having a little trouble trying to pick it up off the rocks but once he did he ran over to me and dropped it on my feet. He had such a big smile on his face and was ready to play fetch, I threw it a few times for him and he ran as fast as he could each time so no one else could take it.
Kai was being so sweet outside today when she was with me. At first she wandered around along the fence to explore quickly before she ran over to me to say hi. I was sitting on one of the big rocks as she came up and nudged her head against my leg so I would pet her. I gave her lots of love before I got up again to see the others. She wasn't done though, and followed me around the entire time until she got a little playful. Cooper ran up to her and started jumping on her back to try and get her to play. It took a little convincing but by the third try Kaihad a huge doggy grin on her face and she was bouncing around with everyone. Fez was getting so excited as he saw everyone running around. He stopped wandering the yard and ran right up to them and began to join in. He kept his post on the outside of the wrestling match and had a blast following the group in circles around the yard. I called him over to me to say hi but he was too focused on everyone that he didn't even look up. When he needed a little break, Fez went and got his paws nice and dirty before heading back inside!
Maverick was off on his own today while Shyla was being such a social butterfly. It's not unlike either of them to be playful when they are outside but today Shyla was the one initiating the playing and was trying to get Cooper's attention the whole time. At first he wasn't interested in playing quite yet, so Shyla decided to go and see Maverick across the yard instead. Maverick started from one end of the yard and ended all the way on the the other side as he was exploring. I was trying to get his attention so he would look up at me to take a picture but he was too distracted by all the scents and couldn't seem to lift his nose up out of the cracks in the rocks. After a little while I could see Maverick starting to become more playful, and he ran over and joined in with everyone as they were wrestling and running around together. Shyla stopped walking around and ran up with him to join in as well, the other dogs were happy to have both of them to play with. Maverick and Shyla loved all of the other dogs' company!
Rex was the most playful pup out of everybody in his group today, but he wasn't as energetic right from the start. When he first got outside, Rex was very calm and walked around alongside Viggo to explore. The two of them looked so happy to be outside on such a nice day and showed no effort at all to try to keep those tongues of theirs inside their mouths! Rex found a frisbee to play with and simply had to carry it around to show off to the other dogs.
Viggo took it upon himself to go check out the agility tunnel. As he was sticking his head through it to see what was inside, Rex ran to the other side of the yard where he trotted through all of the dips in the yard wishing they were puddles. Viggo was very friendly and social with all of the dogs in his group and he made sure to go up to each one and say hello whenever they passed him. Before he came back inside and was hovering around the door, he sparked up a sudden interest in Sammy and began to chase her back into the agility yard. The two began to wrestle quickly before they headed in the door. Sammy loved the attention Viggo was giving her and was probably wondering why they didn't decide to play any sooner. Rex was having too much fun with his frisbee he found and wasn't letting anyone else near it. I played some fetch with him and he ran back to drop it at or near my feet each time. Sammy seemed interested as she saw us playing together and walked on over to check it out. I called her over to me and gave her cuddles before I threw the toy again. It was her against Rex as they ran as fast as they could to catch it. Rex managed to grab the frisbee each round, but that didn't stop her from running after it! Sammy finished off her group time by going over to have a little visit with Issy and Mocha.
Issy and Mocha had a very calm day today while they were outside with their group. When they first got out the door they were both very energetic and Mocha ran over to me to say hi as Issy took off to the other side of the yard to say hi to some of the dogs and to explore. After I cuddled with Mocha, she took her time to walk around slowly as the others started to play and run around. She came back and sat with me as she watched them run around. Issy wasn't even distracted by the other dogs at all and didn't even flinch as they were running around her. She was too busy sniffing along the rocks, discovering new things. Mocha made her way back to the door when she was done exploring. She doesn't like to play too much and enjoys the time she spends by herself. Issy followed right after Mocha and stayed with her by the door for a bit before she saw all she wanted to see and decided to walk on back. As she saw the other dogs playing around the yard, Issy got interested and ran over and started jumping up on Sammy. Once she turned around though, that was enough for her and she ran back over to Mocha to enjoy the nice day before going back inside.
Training:
I took Sadie out for her session first this morning, which was a good exercise for Max as well. He sat and waited patiently while I leashed her up and walked out into the hallway. I reminded him once or twice to stay put while Sadie and I left and he did a great job. Sadie and I headed down the driveway for a quick structured walk and a sniff around before starting her recall work. Today I attached a long rope to one of the trees so that Sadie had a lot more freedom, therefore making her focus even more on coming when called. Susan joined us outside and acted as a distraction for Sadie again today. Sadie did a good job of listening to me and focusing on coming with a few reminders here and there. She was feeling leisurely today and laid down at my feet every time I called her over! Silly girl.
When Sadie and I went back to the kennel, Max knew it was his turn and was very excited. I reminded him to calm down and he managed to sit back down on his bed until I took Sadie's leash off. Max and I took our time going up the hallway and I had him sit at all of the doorways and wait until I directed him to go through. We did a structured walk down the driveway to start working on 'heeling' while walking on a loose leash. It'll take some practice but it was a good start. We then moved on to recall work as well and we did the same drill as with Sadie. He really enjoyed the freedom of the long rope, so much so that he took a bit more time to focus, although he responded with a few reminders.
