The group made their way out to the agility yard. Once they got out there everyone spent some time say hello before heading out to do a check around the yard. As they went around the yard Cooper and Fez met up. They gave each other a once over which so turned into them bouncing around and having fun together. Kai and Ranger decided to take a bit of a break from exploring to come over for a visit with me. Cooper left Fez and went running off to snatch up a frisbee. He seemed pretty proud of it and wanted to show it off to everyone. Fez, feeling Cooper's excitement, started to bounce on the spot and sing the song of his people. Kai stood a little behind him wondering what Fez was up to. Maverick and Shyla weren't untouched by the antics either. Shyla went running up to Ranger, play bowedm then spun around a couple times. Maverick came racing up behind her, not wanting to miss out on any fun.Cooper ditched his frisbee and went to go and play with Fez some more. They were joined by Maverick and Kai, though Kai decided she'd rather stay a little more on the sidelines. Shyla went back to exploring around the yard for the next little while. Kai left the boys and came to join Ranger and I for another visit. Fez needed a bit of a break from the fun and set off to walk around the yard. Shortly after that happened Maverick, Shyla, Cooper, and Kai were off tearing around the yard. Cooper once more spotted the frisbee and left the others to their fun and went to grab it once again.
The next group headed outside and set off to do some exploring. Shortly after entering the agility yard, Viggo found himself being asked to play by Brenyn. Viggo was more interested in going to check out the yard and continued to make his way around for the time being. Birdie, Millie, and Rex were all very intent on their explorations as well. Birdie met up with Brenyn as she was going around the yard. She found Brenyn quite interesting and decided to tag along behind her for a while. Rex, wondering what Birdie found so interesting, decided to tag along as well. Brenyn split off from the others to go and see about getting Viggo to play again. In the end, Viggo was stiff very focused on exploring the yard but Birdie and Rex were more than happy to go racing around with Brenyn. Millie, not wanting to miss out on the fun, went charging after them. Rex ended up branching off when he found himself a frisbee. This also caught Birdie's eye and she went to see about maybe stealing it away. I ended up getting the firsbee from Rex and gave it a toss. Birdie was the first to get to it and went running off, feeling victorious. Rex was very happy when I showed him another Frisbee that he could have. Millie made her way over to see what was going on and to see what everyone was playing with. Viggo continued on exploring. I think he was determined to see every little bit of the yard. By the time it was the end of group, Birdie had managed to get both frisbees! She sure loves her toys. Brenyn tried take three at getting Viggo to play. She was a bit more successful and they had some fun bouncing around. Once again it turned into Brenyn, Rex, Millie, and Birdie racing around the yard, while Viggo watched as he followed his nose.
Max and Sadie were doing so well this morning being patient. When it was time for them both to go outside to join their group they were a lot more calm than usual and were sitting and waiting to be let out. Once they walked out the door they raced each other into the grassy yard to join everyone where they began to explore. Sadie took off to sniff along the fence while Max stayed where all the dogs were to socialize and sniff around with them. Magic was so energetic today and she got Max and Sadie to join in and play with her right away. Max was the first out of the two to start chasing after her, he followed her into the agility tunnel where they wrestled a bit before running around in circles. Max passed Sadie and jumped on her back, asking to play. She responded by chasing him all the way to the other side of the yard where they began to wrestle with some of the other dogs. Later during their group Max noticed Magic digging in the dirt and raced over to join her. From then on whenever someone tried to come close to it, he wouldcover it with his paws to keep the others out.
Kimi and Lobo were having so much fun outside today with all the dogs in their group. Usually they like to keep it calm and relax, just by wandering around the yard to explore while the others play. Today they had a change of heart and were all over the other pups. When Max and Sadie were running around from one side of the yard to the other, Kimi got so excited and began to chase them with the others. Lobo was a little unsure at first but once he saw Kimi running he decided to join in as well, they didn't wrestle with anyone but wherever the pack of dogs went they followed right behind. At one point Max ran up to Kimi and she almost had enough energy to jump up on him, but she turned at the last minute to go and sniff along the fence.
Timbits was having the time of his life during his group today, there wasn't one second that he wasn't playing or moving around with the others. Coco was very energetic today as well and joined him outside when they were playing. Sometimes Coco isn't in the mood to play at all and other times, like today, you just can't hold her back from running around with everyone. Coco chased Timbits all the way to the far end of the gravel yard when Cooper stopped sniffing around the fence and ran as fast as he could to join in. Coco and Cooper were running around Timbits in circles and he was loving the attention so much that he decided to lay down on his back with his feet in the air as they walked over him. They then proceeded to make there way to the grass yard and that's when they began to play tag. Coco and Timbits chased each other in and out of the agility tunnel and then in a circle over and over again as the other dogs joined in. Timbits got tired of running and went over to one of the big holes in the ground and started to dig his own hole beside it. He didn't go to deep at all though and ended up just sniffing around in the existing hole with Coco.
Cooper and Maya were having so much fun with Coco and Timbits. Cooper was running around with them right from the beginning but it took Maya a while before she trotted over to join in with them. When she first got outside, Maya scurried throughout the yard with her nose to the ground sniffing everything she could. But when she saw that everyone was playing tag she couldn't hold herself back and got a huge burst of energy that she just had to let out. She ran over and began to jump up on Cooper as he was wrestling with Timbits, they were all rolling around on the ground then one of them would hop up and start the chase all over again. Cooper and Timbits were a great match for wrestling and they both loved it. Maya took off for a bit as they were playing to sniff around a little bit with Coco by the holes. She loves to stick her head inside of them and even continued to dig from where they left off.
Flora is such a sweet girl. When she first got outside she wandered around and went up to each dog to say hello. She took her time and kept her nose glued to the ground as she was walking around because she loved following all of the scents. When it wasn't on the ground, Flora had her nose raised high in the sky to sniff out the air. Flora made her way over to all the playful dogs out in the grass yard and started to get playful just by watching them. She ran around them in circles and started to bounce around when they were wrestling. She didn't completely join in and wrestle but she did get a few hops in and jumped off of whoever was rolling around on the ground at that point. When they started to play tag again, Flora decided to head back to the door where she had previously been hanging out with Rocky. Rocky always likes to find a good spot where he can relax and watch the other dogs in the yard. He always welcomes dogs like Flora who are taking a break when they come to join him and keep him company. Rocky wandered around for a little bit when he first got outside to do his business then walked slowly back to the door where he sat and stared at all the dogs playing. I went up and gave him lots of kisses as the others continued to play until it was time to go back inside.
Apple and Sky are such sweet dogs. They have very calming personalities and it shows when you're outside in the yard with them. Apple was the first one up when I opened their kennel as Sky was still fast asleep in his bed. I called him to come outside and when he opened his eyes he hopped right up to join Apple in the hallway. Outside, Apple followed me into the grass yard where as Sky followed slowly behind and they began to explore as he went. They didn't walk too far before Sky stopped tp sniff some of the big rocks and Apple circled the yard once before she came over to me to say hi. She put her head down for me to pet her. I called Sky over to join us but he was very focused on sniffing along the edges of the yard. I gave him a good pet on our way back inside.
Lexi and Penny are two of the smallest dogs I've ever seen! Lexi is so friendly and always wants attention and to be held, while Penny is more shy at first, but warms up when you spend some time with her. When I sit on the floor with Penny she gives me a good sniff before hopping up on my legs. Today when they got outside they ran to the further yard where they roamed around in circles sniffing around in the dirtand grass. Penny loved the holes and kept sniffing around them as Lexi followed her. When I walked over to the door, they both followed behind me managing to pass me on the way as they ran up to say hi to Julie. I kneeled down as everyone in the group came over to say hi to each other. Lexi hopped up on my lap while Penny looked out through the fence and something off in the distance. After a few minutes, Penny left her post by the fence and made her way over to me and sat right between my legs as I pet her. I'm so proud of her; she's really starting to open up to me and come out of her shell!
Extra Attention:
Millie and I headed out for a little adventure out front for her extra attention time. She was super excited and was bouncing around like crazy. When we finally got outside Millie put her nose to ground to give as much grass as possible a thorough once over. I crouched down to give Millie some pets. Millie got so excited she knocked me over and covered me in kisses. We came back inside and spent some time in the reception area with some of Millie's people friends as well as her dog friend Julie.
Training:
Sadie and Susan headed out into the field to do some recall training this morning. To start off, Sadie went for a little walk down the driveway and had a sniff in the long grass. When it was time to get to work, Susan used the long leash so that Sadie could venture farther away from her side. Susan called Sadie and she came back each time. We then moved to the bridge over the creek, which is a particularly distracting area for Sadie. Susan did some practicing having Sadie come back to her without stopping to look over the sides of the bridge. Next I took hold of Sadie's long leash and Susan walked ahead of us as a distraction. I called Sadie back and she listened well even though she very much wanted to continue following Susan.
I took Max out next and we did some similar work to Sadie's session, although it was just the two of us this time. I took Max around the side of the field where there were lots of things to distract him. He was very good about coming each time I called him, so we moved on to another area with new smells and distractions. Max needed a couple of little reminders this time, but in the end he came back to me each time without hesitation. On the way back inside, I worked on Max's patience, which is improving every day! He waited nicely at each door and walked in a calm manner down the hallway and back to his kennel.
