Training:

I started Khal's training session inside today. I had him sit and wait patiently at all of the doorways until I allowed him to go through. Once outside, I took Khal down the driveway to practice walking nicely on his leash. On our way back, Katie joined us outside with another dog on a leash. We walked past each other, practicing focusing on his own path instead of on hers. Khal was very determined to go and see the other dog the first time Katie walked her by, but he got the hang of it fairly quickly. We did this over and over again, all while changing directions so that Khal learns to focus on the person walking him and the direction in which they're going instead of on seeing the other dog. Once the drill was over, Khal got to say a quick hello to the other dog before heading back inside.

Rio had a great first day of training today! I took her out to the front yard where there's lots of space to run around. I hooked her up to the long rope attached to the tree and let her sniff around. Once Rio was thoroughly distracted, I called her over in a very excited voice and she came running over as fast as she could. I rewarded her with a little treat and lots of affection. Syarah came out to join us in the yard and we took turns calling Rio back and forth between us. I had treats for Rio but Syarah didn't, which is great so that she doesn't rely on treats to complete the command. Rio did a great job and ran to either Syarah or I with tons of enthusiasm!

Cats:

Mr. Ziggy had the run of the room last night and he was still curled up and snuggly when I came in this morning. Once his cubby was all clean and tidy, Ziggy went back in and curled up on his bed for a little snooze. Later on in the morning I came back in to see the cats. When I let Ziggy out he hopped right down and had a big stretch. He the lept up onto the window sill and looked around outside. He spotted a bird in the parking lot and his tail began to whip around, hunting mode engaged. The bird flew away and Ziggy decided to go over and inspect the cat tree and get a back scratch from me.

Allie was curled up in her bed when I went in to say hello this morning. She said hello to me and then hopped up onto the shelf in her cubby and started to roll around like a silly cat. I got out a selection of toys for Allie and she happily chased a blue feather toy. Allie took the toy up onto the cat tree and swatted it around for a good while. When she was finished with her toy, Allie spent some time perched on the window sill, watching the clouds go by.

Groups:

Khal was pretty excited to get outside. He went bounding off around the yard. Khal got about half way across the yard when he came tearing back over to me for some pets. When he’d had enough Khal went bounding off once more. He ran around the yard for a little longer before decided to do a little exploring. Khal made his way over to the fence and started sniffing around in all the crevices of the rocks. He followed the fence line until he came to a grass section. Khal then spent some time checking that out. I tossed around a couple toys, but he was more interested in what was going on in the yard, though he trotted after them and sniffed before moving on.

Benji was so happy to get outside on this beautiful day. He was even happier when he spotted newcomer, Rio. Benji took an instant liking to her and decided to follow her around and see how she was doing. He followed her around as she said hi to other dogs, but when she headed out to the far yard Benji split off to do his own exploring. He went all around the yard checking out anything that caught his attention. At one point he was joined by Timbits, who was curious as to what Benji was looking at by the agility jump. When he was done with the jump Benji was off trotting around once more. He spotted Rio again and changed directions to check in on her. Finding her doing alright, Benji headed back out. When he spotted Rio racing around with Pearl, he went charing after them not wanting to miss out on any fun. After they were done, Benji made his way out to the main yard and the shady section to cool down. When Rio joined him, Benji was quite happy to hang out with her some more.

Rio did very well for her first day at daycare. She was a little unsure at first, but was happy to say hi to all the other dogs. Benji took quite the liking to her and decided to go around and explore with her. Rio then spotted Coco checking out something by the building. She went trotting over to see what they were looking at. With that done, Rio went trotting off to see what else is going on in the yard with Benji tagging along the whole while. Rio stopped when she met up with Lola. They spent some time saying hi before Rio continued on her way out to the far yard. At this point Benji split off to check out his own thing. Rio was enjoying exploring in the grass when she was joined by Timbits. They checked each other over then headed out to do a little exploring together. As Rio started to feel more comfortable she was ready to play. She and Timbits went racing off around the yard. After a little while, Rio needed a break and so headed over my way for some pets. We were joined by Goliath and Pearl who both took turns saying hello to Rio. Rio then tagged along as I went to get Julie. I was very impressed with how Rio reacted to Julie’s wheelchair. Sometimes other dogs are nervous of her chair at first, but Rio didn't seem to mind. Feeling even more confident, Rio went trotting off to see what else was going on in the yard. Rio met up with Pearl once more, only this time Pearl was ready to play. The two of them went tearing around the yard having a great time. Benji ended up tagging along as well. Eventually they needed a break. Rio spotted Goliath hanging out in the pool and went to see what he was up to. When she was done she then made her way over to spend some time with Benji.

Goliath started his morning with some exploring. He then spotted Timbits hanging out by the tunnel. Goliath went trotting over to join him and see what he was looking at. He then tagged along as Timbits went to see Rio. After saying his hellos to her, Goliath headed out to do some more exploring. Goliath stopped exploring and went to see if Flora might want to play. Soon they were bouncing around and having a grand old time. Timbits went running to join them and ended up stealing Flora away. Goliath didn't mind though and came over to visit with Rio and I. Goliath then went trotting off to see what was going on around the yard. He met up with Coco and followed her around hoping she might play with him. She was busy following her nose so Goliath decided to go and have a look at the pool. He hopped in without hesitation and circled around in the water, splashing his feet. He plopped down and seemed to really enjoy the water and spent most of the rest of his group time either laying down or splashing in the pool.

Coco set off to do some exploring around the main yard. She then made her way over to the gate when the rest of the group headed out to the far yard. Coco ended up just hanging out at the gate with Julie watching what the others were up to. Eventually she decided it was time to join the rest of the group in the far yard. Coco headed off to continue her explorations. Goliath headed over to see if maybe she might want to play with him. Coco was still all about the exploring and told him she was busy for now. Timbits went running over to check on her then left her to her exploring. When Coco had seen all she wanted to of the far yard, she went trotting back to the main yard. She soon decided now was a good time to sunbathe and flopped over to do just that. Coco couldn’t resist still sniffing whatever came in reach of her nose all while laying on the ground.

Timbits went racing out into the yard. When he realized no one was running with him he headed back to see what the others were up to. Timbits then went bouncing back out to the far yard to check out the tunnel and Goliath soon joined him. They spent al little time exploring together before Timbits headed out to see what Rio was up to. He took a liking to Rio and was determined to get her to play with him. It took Timbits a little while but he eventually succeeded and the two of them went running around. Timbits was the distracted by Goliath and Flora playing. He went bouncing over and ended up stealing Flora away. After racing around for a bit he headed off to go touring around the yard and seeing what the others were up to.

Finnigan was quick to go racing around the yards. After a couple laps he noticed the pool back in the main yard.  Finnigan went and launched himself at the pool and started to splash around. He was having a great time in the pool when Brenyn went running over to see about getting him to play with her. She eventually convinced him to get out of the pool and they went racing off to the far yard. While they were running around, Finnigan went diving into the tunnel. Wally went trotting by and ended up dropping a toy right at the entrance. Finnigan was quick to snatch up the toy and bring it into the tunnel with him. He then decided to spend some time just hanging out in the tunnel with the toy. Eventually he needed to cool off and so made his way back to the pool, toy in his mouth. Finnigan found Ranger occupying the pool. He put the toy and his front feet in the water. Finnigan then had some fun whacking at the toy in the water. Ranger soon left and Finnigan was free to hop in and splash around some more. Brenyn then came running over and hopped into the pool. Finnigan hopped out so she could have some fun splashing around. Afterwards, Finnigan went to hang out in the shade with the others.

Ranger set out do some exploring around the main yard. When he had seen all he wanted to see of the main yard, Ranger headed on out to the far yard. His nose touched the ground and he set off in search of something exciting hidden in the grass. When Ranger finally lifted his head he spotted the pool in the main yard. After that he headed right for the pool. Ranger was quick to climb right in. He splashed around a bit and had a drink. Ranger then just stood there with a big smile on his face. After a little while he was joined by Finnigan. They shared the pool for a bit until Ranger decided he wanted a break from the sunshine. He made his way over to the shady section of the yard and went to do a little exploring. Ranger soon finished up exploring and settled down to relax.

Tanner was quick to make his way over to me for some loving and pets as soon as we got out the door. When he’d had enough he left me to go and do a little exploring. It wasn’t long before Tanner was back wanting more love. I gave him some more pets then headed off to see what the other dogs were up to and Tanner tagged along. We went all around the yard seeing what the others were up to. Eventually Tanner branched off to head back to the main yard to do some exploring on his own. After he’d seen all he wanted to see, he headed over to hang out with Ranger in the shade. When Tanner spotted me headed over to join them he got all frisky and started playing peek a boo between my knees.

Teddie and Kizmet are both so cute! Whenever I pass by their kennel they’re always taking a nap and sleeping right beside each other. Outside during their group time Teddie doesn’t have much more energy than he does inside and likes to hang around on his own and relax but Kizmet loves to interact and socialize with the dogs. He stayed by the pool pretty much the entire time and only went off to explore for a little bit before coming back. Kizmet kept on following me around the yard, then when I went to pet him he’d jump up and give me so many kisses. Teddie wandered around the whole time but made sure to make a stop at the pool whenever he passed it. He got in and stood there to cool down as he watched the others play. Kizmet ran up when all of the others started to surround it and took a sip of the water but didn’t want to go in completely. He started to play a little bit later when it was almost time to go inside, then ran to the door to wait.

Viggo had a nice time outside with all of the dogs in his group today, he is a very independent dog and likes to stay to himself most of the time outside but he always says hello to the others. Whenever a dog would run up to him he would stay and they would sniff each other for a bit but then he would walk off to continue to wander around. I called him over to me a bunch of times so I could see him and it’s like he got in such a good mood whenever I called his name. His face lit up and he ran over to me and walked around me in circles as I pet him. I walked over to the pool to go in and tried to get Viggo to come in and join me but he didn’t want to just yet. It wasn’t until he saw other dogs in it that he wanted to hop in as welll.

Bandit had a great time out in the yard today! He was a social butterfly and made sure to greet each of the other dogs before having a sniff around the yard. He took a particular interest in his group-mate, Bentley, and spent some time saying a proper hello. Once Bandit finished his greetings, he did a few tours of the yard with his nose to the ground. His explorations led him to the pool, which was a great find. Bandit looked around the pool at his friends before dipping his feet in to cool off. After the pool, Bandit was ready to run and bounce around with his buddies. He spotted Kizmet and Bowen goofing around together and went to join in. He hopped around with the pair for a little bit before coming to see me for some attention. Bandit enjoyed his back rub for a few minutes before going back to meet up with Bentley.

Kai started off her day with a relaxing walk around the trail with two of her regular friends. She sniffed along the trail and took her time to enjoy the morning. Later on, Kai met some new friends out in the yard. She greeted the new dogs and spent some time getting some attention from me. Kai watched as Bentley M. and Bentley G. roamed the yard, while Bowen and Kizmet started to wrestle. She made her way over to the pool to have a look around when Will came up to say hello. Kai wagged her tail as she exchanged greetings with her new friend. Will bounced around Kai a little bit to see if she'd like to play, but she opted to lay down in the grass instead. Kai kept cool on this hot day by laying in the shady grass by the fence and rolling around on her back. I went over and took that as an opportunity to give Kai lots more belly rubs and some one-on-one time.

Will had such a lovely time during his extra attention today with me. We went in the office and we sat together for a while on the floor as I gave him lots of cuddles and love. When I got up to sit at the desk he followed up quickly behind me then rested his head on my thigh so I would continue petting him. He always wants to be loved and wants attention all the time, Julie was in the office with us and he walked up to her to sniff around and say hi. She’s a little smaller and I think she got a little timid so I called him back over to me while he sat beside me to lay down. We went outside shortly after to work on Will's basic commands and heeling. He was happy to work for some treats and we had a nice time out in the front yard together.

Goliath was happy to get out of his kennel for some extra attention. He went running up front and set about looking at everything. When he was done, Goliath made his way over to me for some love and attention. When he’d had enough pets for the moment he set out to do another tour and to see what Julie and Merlin were up to. He watched as Julie played with a toy and sat next to me for some pets. We watched Julie together for a little bit before heading back for his afternoon group time.
