Allie cat was snoozing away in the hammock on the cat tree when I went in for our photo session. She stretched out and meowed, indicating she wasn't quite ready to play. I scooped her up and held her for a minute or two and let her down on the windowsill. Allie peered out and rubbed her face on the trim and I pet her back. She was loving the attention and hopped back onto the cat tree so that she could be higher up and closer to me. I offered her some toys to play with and she swatted at a sparkly gold ball for a minute. I next took out the laser pointer, but Allie was in too much of a snuggly mood for shenanigans. She did start to hop around and get silly on the other cat tree in the corner of the room, though. She raced over and scaled the side of the tree so quickly, just like a jungle cat! She sat perched on the very top shelf and looked out into the hallway at the people walking past.
To no one's surprise, Kenzie and Kodi were the
stars of their group this morning. It took a few moments for Kodi to warm up,
but by the end of his group he had everyone in that yard chasing him! Of course
he made sure to stop by my side for a few cuddles and show me just how big he
could smile from ear to ear. Kenzie spent more of her time by my side than Kodi
did. Once she knew that I was handing out free head rubs, she was all over it.
Then she made her way out into the grassy yard and decided to have a few grass
rolls on her back. She just couldn’t contain her excitement. She couldn’t stay in that spot for long, however; Kodi and his crew were whipping around the yard and she
wanted to make sure she didn’t get run over!
Kai was thrilled to have some fun and
rambunctious boys in her group this morning like Kodi and Colin. They sure knew
how to bring out the playful side in her and she was definitely on board for
the grand chase around the yard. She especially loves Colin; they have become
best buds over the past couple of days and love to jump up on their hind legs
to dance together! But she was very curious to see what Kenzie was doing
rolling around in the grass, which she could see from the corner of her eye. She made her way over
and thought she would give it a try as well, nothing quite like a grass roll to
end a fabulous morning!
Kai knew exactly what time it was when I approached her kennel door this afternoon, her extra attention session! It was such a beautiful afternoon and we just missed the rain so we decided to go for a one on one stroll out front in the grass. Kai was so excited that she did one of her signature grass rolls! After a few happy rolls, we headed back inside for some treats and endless amounts of belly rubs.
Percy and Teddy were excited to have access
to all of the yards this morning, so many new places to investigate and scents to sniff! Percy collected all of the toys in the yards and was ready for a good
game of fetch. Teddy anxiously waited on the sidelines for me to throw the
Frisbee to Percy, not to catch the Frisbee, but to chase Percy who was chasing
the Frisbee! Kimi and Spencer were no where to be found, they were too busy
with their noses to the ground sniffing out the messages left by the groups before
and investigating the grassy yards. Finally Spencer finished with his usual
laps around the yard and joined Teddy and Percy for a few wrestles and rounds
of chase from one yard to the other. When Kimi heard the boys roughhousing the
in the opposite yard, her ears perked up and she ran over to investigate. She
was happy to see the usual daycare boys; they always provide good entertainment
for her. Issy and Mocha were back for daycare today; in fact, we had the full usual
Thursday daycare crew with us. Mocha was happy to see the sun and not the
rain this morning. Although Issy and the rest of the gang headed out into the
yard for some adventure, she decided to stay back and lounge out by the door in
the sun. She always knows I will eventually come over and give her cuddles
anyways! Issy on the other hand is always down for a trot around the yard, in
fact she is always on the move and wanted to make sure she sniffed out every
inch of that yard today; she just had to dodge Teddy and Percy who were running
circles around her but had no problems doing so!
Max and Sadie enjoyed a second round around
the trail late this morning. It was such a beautiful day and they enjoy their
trail walks so much that we decided to switch their routine up and let them
stretch out those long legs of theirs again. They were just ecstatic when I
approached their kennel door a second time with leashes in hand, they knew
exactly where they were going! Off we went trotting along the trail and Max and
Sadie happily weaved in and out of the tall grass, Sadie was hopping around
like a bunny! We definitely took our time making our way around the trail the
second time, the sun was shining and they soaked up every minute of it!
We are so excited to have Jemma stay with us for the weekend. She started off her stay with a wonderful day. There’s nothing Jemma loves more than a good trail walk with her friends. She was particularly excited about the long grass. She bounded through it like a deer, weaving in and out of the field with a smile on her face. In the yard Jemma did a lot of exploring before beginning the games. The grass in the yard is getting longer as well, resulting in a lot of smells to investigate. She was happy to have the company of her friends while she buried her nose in the greenery. Jemma was so keen to be a part of a group that was all huskies. She fit right in with the northern crew. We have two new rescues staying with us, and she did a wonderful job greeting them. Her easy going, light-hearted personality was wonderful for them. She got Moka and Lotus bouncing around and chasing her. She was keen to race around with them. Things got a little faster and the pace was a little too rambunctious for the new comers. Luckily, husky friend Silver was eager to step in and play with her. These two had a good time wrestling and running all around the yard. Jemma and Silver were soon joined by Justice, Magic and Kyah. This pack took off on a very fast race around the yard.
Right after Jemma's walk this morning she got to spend some extra cuddle time with me. She instantly rolled onto her back for a belly rub. She was being a little camera shy today and preferred if I just focused on her rather than taking her picture. So I sat on the floor with her and gave her lots of back scratches, chin rubs and cuddles.
Coco and Timbits make quite the pair during walk time. Despite their smaller size, their strength is nothing to mess with. They kept me very occupied in the long grass today. The pair darted left and right at full speed, eager to sniff and explore every inch of the field. In the yard Timbits was just as excited to sniff and explore. He moseyed around with friends Maya and Shelby, sniffing and digging at everything he found appealing. He was happy to goof around with Shelby for a bit too. These two were adorable frolicking in the grass, tossing paws back and forth. Meanwhile, Coco was very comfortable on my lap. She is such a snuggle bug on these cooler, windy days. After bundles of cuddles and kisses Coco discovered the treats I was hiding in my pocket. I got her and some of her group mates, including Timbits, to show off their commands before receiving goodies. They were all more than happy to sit, shake paws, and lie down for a nice snack.
Maya was full of energy on her walk today. It took her some convincing to head out without Rocky, who later enjoyed a shorter walk. Once she was out on the trail she was bolting around with a smile on her face. Maya was so keen to dash through the long grass. Her actions resembled a deer, leaping and bounding through a field. In the yard Maya still had lots of energy for her friends. She was particularly fond of little Shelby. Shelby found Maya right away and began leaping and bounding around her, asking her to play. Maya turned her nose up to Shelby at first, but after many tries on Shelby’s party, Maya gave in. The pair ended up leaping and bouncing around the yard tossing paws at one another in between some zipping and zooming around. After bundles of laps around the yard Maya sought out Rocky for some sibling time. As usual, Rocky was enjoying the scenery from the gravel yard. He had a couple independent pups keeping him company. Shelby tried to get him going, but he wasn’t interested. He enjoyed lots of pets from me as well as the company of his sister and other group mates before returning indoors to his comfy bed in his kennel.
Teddie and Kizmet had a nice laid back and relaxed day. Their group had numerous energetic dogs in it, which seemed to keep them very busy, entertainment-wise. Both Teddie and Kiz love supervising the fast paced action and intense games. Of course, Kizmet found the one puddle in the yard and began digging in it. This only got the attention of all the dogs…making the puddle turn into a watering hole. I had to herd them out of that yard to stay tidy. Kizmet may act innocent but he sure does have a mischievous side. Meanwhile, Teddie was roaming around investigating the perimeter of the yard. The grass along the fence line is getting very long, leaving lots to sniff and explore. He loved digging at the grass and rubbing his head into the blades trying to get a good sniff and scratch at the same time. The boys were happy to re-unite with their friend from their winter visit, Kyah. They both took their time to sniff her over. She was happy to have their attention. Kiz followed her around for a bit and then went back to minding his own business. When Teddie decided to follow her around, his tail was going a mile a minute. The pair briefly danced before Teddie broke off to check up on his brother.
Rex has the time of his life with group mate, Nyxx. Their mutual love and respect for toys is so fun to watch. Rex loves tossing the toys around and then snatching them up and racing around. They can run so fast, sometimes their other friends can’t keep up. Rex loves the green plastic bone as well as the red Frisbee. We alternated playing with them while group mates kept busy with whichever one he didn’t have. Of course Rex found some puddles to dig in. He got the attention of Fez when he was doing this. Fez wandered over from a nice try grassy patch, to join Rex. They were both soaked in no time. Once I finally got them into another yard, Rex returned to his games with Nyxx while Fez made his way to me for some attention. We enjoyed a nice snuggle until some group mates joined in and I was knocked over. Fez stayed by my side as I sat on the ground, accepting that I was better off to sit than kneel beside 4 dogs. We continued to cuddle with the company of other friends, before returning indoors for their baths. The boys are enjoying their time up front right now, to prevent them from getting dirty before going home.
Sophie W was full of positive energy today, but what’s new!? Anything and everything that she does puts a smile on her face and on my face. She found something that smelt delicious in the grass today and she couldn’t help but roll all over it. She kept at this for a while. Every time I said her name she would bounce up and stare at me with a smile on her face. Later on Sophie was so excited when she saw me pick up a Frisbee. We played numerous rounds of fetch together, competing with Rex and Sophie T. Sophie W loves retrieving the Frisbee and shaking it back and forth while running it to me. She carried on playing with toys and playing in the grass until it was almost time to return indoors. She was happy to accept some pets and cuddles before we headed inside for an afternoon nap.
Birdie is such a great spirit to have around. She loved her morning walk alongside Jemma. This pair kept very busy dashing and darting through the long grass. My favourite part is watching her ears flap in the wind. Sometimes she looks like she’s ready for take off, at the speed they go up and down. In the yard she was full of the same beans. Birdie was sure to find toys right off the bat and begin dancing around with them. She returned them to my feet occasionally, but mostly kept them to herself. She tried to get involved in a fetch match with Rex, Sophie and Sophie, but in the end she decided she would much rather have the toys all to herself. Birdie and I continued to play around before she set off to sniff and explore. Birdie kept busy with her nose to the ground, buzzing everywhere, until we went indoors for some rest time.
