Ziggy is just the cutest little guy. He waited patiently for me to take off his cone so that I could give him a good scratch. He rolled his head sideways into my hand and seemed to enjoy having his chin and ears scratched. Ziggy then hopped up onto the perch of the cat tree and gazed out the window. I grabbed a toy and started to wave it around to see if Ziggy was interested in playing. He decided that he would rather get some more pets, so I draped the toy around his shoulders to save it for later. Ziggy turned around and posed when I went to take a picture; he's so handsome! I gave him another good scratch and then put his cone back on before leaving Ziggy to his nap.
Extra Attention:
Bogart was very happy to come outside with me for a little stroll this afternoon. He sniffed around eagerly and his nose led us to the door of the lounge. We went in and spent some time together. Bogart took his time to sniff around the room and to take a good look at everything. I sat down on the couch and patted the seat next to me, inviting Bogart to hop up and join me. Bogart hesitated at first, but after a quick thought he jumped right up. He turned around and looked out the window from his new, higher vantage point before settling down for some pets next to me. What a sweet little guy!
Keegan was thrilled for his extra attention after walks and could hardly sit still while I put his leash on so we could head out to the lounge. Right away Keegan raced in the door, danced around while I unclipped him and then made a beeline for one of the two couches. He sniffed around for a while with his tail wagging and then trotted over to the other couch. Then he ran in circles around the room until everything had been explored to his satisfaction. I patted the couch and he hopped up without hesitation, immediately posing for a picture, but before I could get one Keegan had been distracted by something else and was running across the room again. His feet didn’t seem to want to stop moving! Keegan discovered a bone and nosed it around for a bit before he finally settled down to chew on it. He then decided he wanted to cuddle, so he ran over and rubbed his head against my leg. I gave him a nice back rub, and then we played fetch for a bit with his bone. Keegan then sat down to chew on his bone for a bit before we headed back to the main building.
Bandit was very eager to head out to the lounge for his extra attention. He seemed to know exactly where we were going and didn’t try to make any detours. As soon as I took his leash off, Bandit started jogging around the room to investigate the new space. I sat down on the couch to take pictures and he quickly hopped up next to me, giving the couch a good sniff, and then he jumped off and went to find something else to explore. Bandit was climbing all over the couches and the cot. I found a bone and started nudging it around with my feet to get his attention. He quickly rushed over and pawed at it, before practically diving into my lap so that he could wash my face with his big tongue. We played a bit more with the bone and a rope toy, and Bandit sniffed around a little longer, and then we headed outside for a short stroll. He happily trotted along beside me to the trail and set out to explore in the grass. Bandit and I enjoyed the warm weather for a while and then we went back into the air conditioning!
Groups:
Max was behaving superbly well when I went to visit him this
morning. Sadie was on the more energetic side and couldn’t wait to get out of her
kennel to go outside. I was happy to see that Max was sitting there
patiently. His calm energy rubbed off onto Sadie after waiting there for a
minute and she sat down soon after so I could let them out. Once they were out
in the yard, Max ran up to the other dogs right away. He’s not shy when it comes
to making friends, especially if they love to play. Sadie roamed over to the
gravel area and began to explore at first. She sniffed along the building until
she made her way up to the grass and that’s when she stopped to look around.
She saw that Max ran into the further yard and began to play with some of the
dogs. He was playing tag with one of the dogs and was trying to catch them. He
was on the other side of the agility tunnel and the two of them kept on running
to one side then the other until finally the dogs bolted to the other end of
the yard where Max could finally catch them. When Sadie saw how much Max was
playing she decided to run over and join in. She ran up to a big group of friends as they were wrestling around the yard when they stopped chasing each other.
Sadie started to pounce up into the wrestling action. Max was at the centre of the bunch. Sadie decided to just get Max’s attention so she ran over and jumped up onto him
and once she landed, she was off and running with Max following behind. Finally when she was tired, Sadie decided to
take a break and start walking around again, while Max ran over to the pool to dip
his feet in and get a drink. Sadie walked over after as well to join him.
Abbie and Jock came in this morning and seemed super excited to start their day and go outside with their group. They were joined outside by three puppies and their friend Julie who love to explore just like Abbie and Jock. Abbie and Jock watched the puppies curiously as they made their way further out into the yard. As they walked outside they started to explore along the fence right away, they didn’t realize that the puppies were already outside until one ran over to Jock and jumped up to say hello. Jock was surprised to see his friend and slowly moved closer to give the puppy a sniff, walking around him in circles. Abby was watching from nearby. She stayed right by Jock the entire time they were outside. Abby said quick hellos to the puppies before putting her nose back to the ground, while Jock kept on walking up to them to say hi and give them a sniff. Abbie and Jock followed their noses all along the fence together; I think they enjoyed each other’s company in the yard. I tried to call Jock and Abby over to follow me to the further yard but they decided to keep on in the direction they were headed. They began to sniff around the grass patch and stuck to that spot until it was time to head inside.
Finniagn is always such a joy to have here. He was very excited when he came in this morning and was bouncing all over the place as he was saying hi to everyone in the front reception. He was very well behaved on his walk after he let all of his energy out in the beginning. He started to play when we first got on the trail and was running around me in circles. After a minute he stopped and was quite calm though. He continued the rest of his walk slowly and walked the rest of the way back. During groups he seemed to be very interested in Bella who was also in for daycare today. She’s such a sweet girl and listens extremely well when she’s outside with other dogs. She was almost as excited as Finnigan to get out into the yard, and they each bounced out with their tails wagging. Finnigan ran as fast as he could into the agility yard, while Bella quickly jumped out the door and followed right behind him where they began to explore. Bella made her way to the end of the yard and started to sniff around the outdoor kennels. Finnigan stayed close to me as he wandered around the yard. I found a rope toy in the grass that I thought they’d both enjoy and waved it in the air as they came towards me. Finnigan kept on jumping up to try and catch it out of my hand so I threw it as far as I could across the yard. He ran after it as Bella started to chase him playfully. She didn’t want to play with the toy, she just wanted to run around with Finnigan. After Finnigan was done with the toy these two started up a game of tag with some of the other dogs in their group. They ran through the agility tunnel a bunch of times as they were circling around the yard. Bella made sure that as they were chasing her that she’s stop and take a quick dip in the pool to cool off and take a break. She laid right down in the water and rolled around so her entire body would be wet. Finnigan jumped in right after and did the exact same thing as her.
Ranger is such a sweet boy. He seemed very relaxed in his kennel this morning as he was lying on his cot when it was time to go outside. His face lit up as soon as I opened the door and he got up and trotted outside to join everyone else. During his group outside he spent most of his time walking around the agility yard on his own to explore. This boy started sniffing along the fence right as he walked out the door and made it all the way to the opposite end of the yard where he began to walk through all of the tall grass to explore some more. I called Ranger over to me when he was far away and he walked over slowly to come and say hi to me. I gave him lots of cuddles as he rubbed his head up against me and gave me some kisses. When he was near all of the other dogs as I was petting him, Ranger seemed to want to socialize and walked over to them and began to sniff. They said hi back to him as they began to play and that’s when Ranger walked away and back over to me. He sat down as he observed the yard when the pool caught his eye. He trotted over to it and once he made it over there he dipped one paw in then decided to just walk right in the water. He cooled off his legs as I was splashing water on his back to cool off. He loved it and stayed there until some of the other dogs ran over and jumped in as well. Once they left he walked back over to the pool to take one last dip in the water before it was time to go inside again.

Bandit had yet another wonderful day here at Tails & Trails. He started his morning off on a very fast paced and energetic walk around the field with one of our daily day-care dogs named Bella. As soon as I began to approach his kennel, I could see the excitement on Bandits face. As I went to put his leash on him, he sat perfect like the good boy he is until he was able to race outside and into the yard. Bandit was very excited to meet up with his new friend Bella and was sure to give her an overall sniff before they began their walk. Throughout the entire walk, Bandit was quite the little flirt. He was always focused on trying to get Bella’s attention whether it be by play jumping at her, walking right beside her or licking her head. He looked so cute trying to get her to pay attention to him. Eventually he gave up and joined me for the remainder of his walk. I think he figured that I was easier to crack than she was and would give him all the attention he wanted! During his outdoor playgroup Bandit was ready to go go go! He made sure to visit everyone around the yard when he first got outside and then decided to play around in the pool on this hot summer day. Bandit had a good time splashing around in the pool but would always get out for a bit to go try something else out. Every so often he’d get into a little play bow and start somewhat play tackling with someone. However, he always returned to the pool or came to see me.
What a relaxing and warm summer day Roxy and Trixie had! The little dynamic duo always found something to do whether it was cuddling with me, exploring on their own or watching their friends in the yard. This morning when I went to let them out for the very first time they were already up and about, read to take on the day ahead of them. They kept occupied with the grass in the yard throughout the entire outing but did however greet their friends in the group as they passed by them. Their ready-to-get-moving attitude continued along to walk time. Roxy must have known that they were about to go for walks because she was sitting with her nose right at the door of their kennel. Trixie hung back a little bit until she was completely sure that it was their time to go. As soon as she caught sight of the leashes she was right beside Roxy waiting patiently to go. Once we got outside, Roxy stuck her nose right up to catch a whiff of the warm summer air while Trixie had her nose on the ground as soon as possible to follow all of the new scents of the day. This continued for the most part of their walk. They always seemed to be doing something opposite whether it be walking beside me, at the end of their leashes, or sniffing the ground. When it came to their outdoor playgroups the two girls trotted outside as soon as they got the chance and went to their favorite spots. Roxy headed right to the far grass field while Trixie greeted all of the dogs in her group. Soon enough Trixie headed on over to Roxy and the two of them spent their time following any possible scent that they could have. Towards the end of their group time, I sat up on the picnic table giving Roxy a belly rub and Trixie and good chin scratch.
Austin and Bogart happened to be in the same mood today; taking it easy and occasionally playing with a couple friends. I think the heat made everyone a little more relaxed during group time. Austin began his morning on the perfect walk for him today; a slow relaxing one with two of his daily daycare friends. He did a quick trot out the door to start off his walk and looked happy to see them waiting for him. Austin gave them a quick hello before jogging to the end of his leash and continuing on. Throughout his walk, Austin was always trying to come jump and see me as much as he could. He loved getting me to stop and give him a quick rub on his back or a head scratch before he would continue on. Bogart had sort of the same start to his day. As soon as he got here it was time for his morning walk. He got to go with two new friends today, which he got along with very well right off the bat! The three of them were quite excited to go out together. Bogart quickly led the way for the walk and ran to the end of his leash. He spent most of his time towards the front of the pack but if we ever had to stop for someone to sniff, Bogart would usually come see me for a bit of extra attention. During their outdoor playgroup, Austin and Bogart were both in the same group, which was great since they got to stick around together. The two of them weren’t always in the playful mood today so they enjoyed wandering around the yards with one another. Every so often, Bogart would get a surge of energy and decide he must do something. Sometimes he’d choose to go play with one of the friends in his group. This led to a surprise play tackle with another dog and a bit of a chase around the yard before deciding to go back to Austin or on his own again. Bogart also had a great time dipping his paws into the pool. I think he really loved getting a chance to cool off like that. Austin’s favorite pass time when he wasn’t walking around the field was to cuddle up beside me. He would sometimes come over and sit with me on the grass while waiting for a little extra belly rub. Overall they both had perfect relaxing summer days!
Keegan came back to the kennel with the same energy and spunk that I always see in him! As soon as I saw him this morning I was so excited to see what the day was going to unfold for us. I think Keegan had the same thought because he raced down the hallway as fast as he could and jumped all around his kennel as soon as he got into it. Luckily for him he could burn off some energy and go for his morning walk right away, as it was his time to go. Keegan got to have a special one on one walk today, which he of course loved due to the extra attention he got. He was constantly racing from one side to the other side of the trail and somehow managed to get he and myself all tangled up in the leash. By the end of his walk it was like we had never even taken it because he still had so much energy! During his outdoor play group I had thought that he’d want to play a little more than he did but he actually enjoyed spending some time on his own. Of course as soon as he got outside he did a quick few laps racing around the yard and greeting everyone. However, he began to quiet down and spent some time playing in the pool by himself. That being said, he absolutely loved the pool and spent half of his group time lounging in it. By the end of his group he was ready to get some extra snuggles from me. Overall Keegan had a great first day back!
