Training
Polly is one busy puppy! We love having her join us for daycare, and today I had the pleasure of working with her for training. Polly's brain seems to go a mile a minute trying to figure out what she should go see and sniff next. Since walking is such an important skill to have we worked on her walking. First we started with sitting at doors while going through the halls. This took some figuring out but Polly quickly learned that if she sat and stayed sitting while I opened the door she would be able to go through with me. If she lifted her bum up from the floor  we closed the door again and started over. Once we made it down the hall and outside Polly wanted to pull and sniff everything she could get her nose to! So we went down the drive way with lots of stopping, sitting and treats. Polly had to stay sitting until I asked her to "let's go" to continue walking. She seemed to understand this with only a few reminders. Staying with me was another story. So we continued down the driveway and any time she would try to race ahead and pull I would stop and call her back to me in a sit. Once sitting we continued on our way. Since this involved a lot of brainwork after our walk we headed inside to just work on her sit's and down's, with which she did very well! She then enjoyed some time exploring the front reception area and playing with different toys before heading back to her kennel.

Extra Attention

Bauer had such a great time during his extra attention today. The two of us spent some time in the indoor playroom together and Bauer couldn't be happier! For the first while, I sat on the couch and Bauer sat at my feet while I rubbed all down his back. Eventually I made my way to his ears to give him a really good ear rub and he was in absolute heaven. He loved it; leaning his head into my hand on the side that was getting massaged. Every time I stopped for even a moment, he would turn his head around and look up at me, wondering why the massage stopped. After he was satisfied with the ear massage, I went and got a little comb and started to brush his fur. The comb felt really good on his fur and skin so he just sat there, enjoying the good scratch/massage. After a while of brushing, he rolled over onto his side and I think he fell asleep while I was brushing him. He then rolled onto his back so I could brush his belly and he was loving it. He is very handsome after getting a good brushing and is feeling fresh and ready to show himself off tomorrow when he returns home!

Bella and I spent time together in the playroom today again. She had just as much, if not more fun in there than she did yesterday. Yesterday her favorite toy was the soccer ball, but today when we got in there, all she wanted to play with was the black rubber bone toy that she found under the couch. When she got in there, she immediately went and poked her nose under the couch, trying to squeeze herself under there as hard as she could, but she just couldn't fit. I knelt down to see what was under there and found the rubber bone and pulled it out. After throwing it across the room, Bella and I played fetch with it for almost the entire time that we were in there! Once she was getting kind of played-out, she did pick up the soccer ball for a few short seconds, but then dropped it back down on the ground and left it. After that she was so choosey with the other toys, she couldn't decide which one she wanted! We played tug-of-war with a rope toy before I went and got a few little treats to give her before it was time for her to go outside with her afternoon group!

Miko spent a lovely morning with a few of his close friends up in the front reception area. Originally I wanted to take Miko outside with me and play around on the long rope, but once we got up to where the other dogs were hanging out, he didn't want to leave! We stayed there and wandered around with the two others, Bella and Jake. At one point I had Bella curled up in my lap while I was sitting crossed legged on the ground and I noticed that Miko was standing close by, waiting for his turn. Once Bella left, Miko hopped right onto my lap and settled right in. He enjoyed a lovely back massage and ear massage, which he loved. Syarah came to hangout with us as well and she combed through Miko's ears and he is looking handsome as ever! He sat on my lap for a long while, content on just watching the others roam around the room. Once it was time to go back in his kennel, I got Miko his lunchtime treat and he sat down on his cot, and happily munched away on his Chicken Strip! He is such a cute little guy.

Groups

Duke is still getting used to being allowed to head out for group time after completing his heartworm treatment. He went bouncing out the door and made a beeline over to where the rest of the group was hanging out. Duke met up with Rosie and after giving each other a good sniff, they started to bounce around. Duke was distracted from Rosie when he caught a scent and decided he had to go investigate. He headed out with his nose to the ground checking everything out most thoroughly. Duke took a break from his exploring to go and see what Rosie was up to now. It wasn’t long before they were bouncing around and wrestling. Bella was quick to join them. Rosie took off running with the others close on her tail.

Bella T. went trotting out to the agility yard and immediately put her nose to the ground. She was distracted from her explorations when she noticed Duke and Rosie starting to bounce around and decided to head over and see what they were up to. When they split up to do some exploring of their own Bella was okay to head back out with her nose to the ground once more. Her nose eventually brought her over to me where she decided it was a good time to have a little visit. After Bella had had enough pets and attention she went trotting off to see what Rosie was up to. She said her hellos then headed out to do some more exploring. Bella wasn’t gone long as Duke went over to play with Rosie. Not wanting to miss out on the fun Bella was quick to make her way back to see about joining in. Soon they were all tearing around the yard. Instead of going back out this afternoon, we spent our play time in the indoor playroom to stay out of the heat. Bella was so happy to be going up to play with her husky friends. She raced back and forth across the room with them, pawing playfully and pouncing on Justice, especially. Bella carried a toy around with her for part of the play time, but eventually put it down so that she could wrestle more!

Finnigan and Jemma met up about two minutes after they got outside. When they first got out to the yard, Finnigan took off running to check out what was going on in the yard. Jemma found herself to be the centre of attention and the rest of the group wanted to say hello and check her over. Finnigan, having done a lap of the yard, then went racing over to Jemma and whacked her playfully with a paw. Jemma was a little confused at first, but that was pretty much all it took. After that Jemma and Finnigan started to bounce around and wrestle, having a lot of fun. Their antics drew a bit of a crowd but they had eyes only for each other and barely noticed the other dogs. Eventually the wrestling turned into wrestling while running which was pretty amusing to watch. They some how managed not to wipe out. They were distracted from their fun when they almost ran right into the fence. Jemma and Finnigan both took a moment to give it a good sniff and then they were back to their fun. Not too long after that the group decided to make their way out to the main yard. Jemma and Finnigan split up to do a little exploring and see what was going on. This afternoon I took Jemma, Finnigan and their friend Polly up to the playroom to have some fun in the cool airconditioning. These three make an awesome play team! They wrestled and ran all around the room the entire time we were there.

Bella F. was pretty happy to head outside for group time. She immediately noticed some of the others checking out Jemma. Not wanting to miss out Bella went trotting over to give her a once over of her own. That done she went to take stock of the yard. Bella stood looking around trying to figure out what she wanted to do next. It wasn’t long before she went trotting out to check out more of the yard.  After spending a fair bit of time in the sun, Bella decided it was a good idea to do some exploring in the shade for a little while.  Even when we made our way out to the main yard, Bella was more than happy to stay in the shade and explore what was there. Along the way she met up with Jemma once more and decided to spend a little more time checking her over. With that done, Bella figured it was time for some butt scratches and attention.
Later in the afternoon we headed up to the playroom to keep cool. Bella enjoyed wandering around the room, taking in all the scents. Once she'd finished sniffing and saying hi to the other dogs, she settled down next to me for some pets.

Ranger headed out to the agility yard with a determined air about him today. He immediately set out to see what was going on in the yard. Ranger hadn’t made it very far when he noticed everyone checking out Jemma. Not wanting to miss out, he headed back to spend some time checking her over. When Finnigan came to get Jemma to play, Ranger took that as his cue to head back out and continue exploring. Once Ranger had gone all around the agility yard he decide to make his way out to the main yard and do some more exploring out there. He was also pretty happy to discover the shady section of the yard. After he toured the sunny section Ranger retreated to the shade to continue to explore. Ranger was more than happy to come up to the playroom in the afternoon and relax on the cool floor. He made his way around the room, sniffing all of the scents left behind from the previous group. When he finished his rounds, Ranger chose a spot on the floor where he could both relax and watch the other dogs.

Polly and Miko were so much fun outside this morning. These two didn’t let the heat get to them and were so energetic the whole time they were out in the yard. When we first got outside, Polly was all over me! She loves people and every step I took she would jump on my feet and try to curl her body around them. It was very cute but also made it very difficult to walk. Miko was socializing with the dogs when he first walked out the door. He gave everyone a quick sniff before he bolted into the further yard where a few of the dogs chased him across the grass. I followed him out there as Polly followed me. She soon lost interest in me as the other dogs started to surround her to say hi. It made her get extremely playful as she bounced around them trying to start a game of tag. Miko was exploring around the grass on his own. He would be sniffing one spot then all of a sudden run as fast as he could across the yard to another spot that seemed to be intriguing and let his nose go to work there. Polly ran over to him as she was running around the grass with some of the dogs. She jumped up and pounced on his back to try and get him involved with the game. Miko hopped back and play bowed towards her then quickly ran in the other direction as she followed.  I went to go sit in the shade on the picnic table and watch them play as Polly stopped running to go and follow me back into the gravel yard. She jumped up on top of the picnic table and sat behind me giving me lots of kisses. Miko trotted over and joined everyone as he trotted around the gravel some more before going back inside. In the afternoon, Polly joined some of her big dog friends for her time in the playroom. She had an absolute blast wrestling and running around with Finnigan and Jemma, two other daycare friends. Miko came up to spend time with his regular small dog friends a little bit later. He spent lots of time walking around the room behind his new friend, Samson.

Bauer and Bear are both such cuddly dogs. Whenever they’re outside neither of them are too energetic but they do have their moments once they get in the mood. Bauer was looking extra fluffy outside today after the long brush he got this morning. As he walked outside with Bear, both of them started to wander around the yard without any set direction in which to walk. Bear was so focused on sniffing around the ground that it was hard getting him to look up at me. No matter how many times I called this boy he was more focused on exploring than coming over and see me. I let him do this own thing as he wandered around the gravel making his way along the fence. Meanwhile, Bauer was over across the yard socializing with a few of the dogs. He seemed to be interested in one in particular and the two couldn’t leave each other alone! They were inseparable the entire time they were outside. The other dog mostly followed Bauer around but he sure did love the attention. After a while of them trotting around together, the other dog was trying to get Bauer to play as he jumped up on his back. This got him so excited as he turned around and jumped down to show he wanted to play. The two of them wrestled for a bit before Bauer got too tired and had to take a break. I was sitting on the picnic table when Bear came over and placed his face between my legs for me to pet. Bauer saw us and ran right over as he tried to move Bear out of the way so he could put his head there, I moved over I let both of them sit with me for some cuddles. Later on in the afternoon, Bauer and Bear met up once again to go and hang out in the indoor playroom instead of going out in the hot sun. Bear came over to my side right away and sat down for some pets. Bauer wandered the room and said hello to his other friends. We all had a lovely time relaxing in the cool playroom while the dogs' kennels were cleaned.
