Another excellent day here at Tails & Trails for Boris and Tasha. I could tell that today was going to be full of excitement and energy from the moment I saw them come in this morning. Once they got into the first hallway they took off together as fast as they could, bouncing off of each other and quickly finding their kennel to stay in. Soon after, it was time for their walk. Boris just couldn't wait to get outside and every time I'd come down their hallway he was at his kennel door just waiting for his and Tasha's turn. Once it was time for them to go, I noticed that Tasha was getting very excited waiting behind Boris. Her little feet started to jump and dance around her kennel as I tried to put on her leash. Eventually I got them all ready to go and then they could finally leap out of their kennel, into the hallway and out the door. Boris led the walk for the most part while Tasha was right on his tail. During their outdoor play group, the two of them got to go outside with a few different dogs today. Instead of going out with our huskies, Boris and Tasha were out with a group of boarding dogs. It was definitely a different match up but the two of them still seemed to enjoy it. Tasha spent half of her time relaxing and enjoyed being on her own while sniffing around the yard. Towards the end of the group however, Tasha initiated a chase and play tackle with Boris. This got the two of them racing around the yard at top speeds after one another. They looked so funny because one of them would hide on one side of the agility tunnel while the other one would try and bounce over top to find them. Every so often they'd join each other in the pool at the end of their run. Boris loved being in the pool and spent a lot of his time in there whenever he wasn't playing. Apart from playing with Tasha, Boris did a good job at playing with the new friends in his group for the first half but then got a little carried away and had some time on his own to calm down.
Abbie and Jock spent yet another nice and relaxing summer day. As soon as I saw the two of them coming down the hallway I knew I was going to get a ton of kisses from each of them and that I did. Abbie and Jock are always ready to show their affection for us but most importantly, they're always ready to get some extra attention and cuddles. Their walk this morning was pretty warm but the two of them just seemed to soak it all up. As I was getting them ready I could tell that they couldn't wait to get outside and explore the big open field that awaited them. During their walk they both couldn't help but sniff around as they kept trying to push each other out of the way. As soon as one of them found a good scent, the other one would come along and try to snatch it away from them. Although they enjoyed their walk I think they were definitely ready to go back into their cool kennel until their outdoor play time came along. When it was time for them to go outside again Jock lept out of his kennel and trotted out the door with a burst of energy. Abbie didn't seem quite ready to leave her kennel in the nice AC just yet but after a minute or two she was happy to follow. As soon as she got outside she stuck her nose up and took a big whiff of the summer air. Jock was quite playful during his play group. He met a few new friends whom he adored and just couldn't get enough of. Jock spent most of his time following these new friends around and doing his best to bounce around and play with them constantly. He especially liked trotting after them every so often. Abbie went around the yard and said hi to all of her old and new friends at the beginning of her group but kept to herself for the most part afterwards. That being said she always seemed to be able to keep an eye on what Jock was doing and would go see him every so often. A few times Abbie would come up to me and snuggle for a little bit before going off on her own again.
Zoe and Flash were both bouncing around their kennel in excitement this morning when I arrived at the door to let them out. Flash being faster than his bigger sister ran out in front of her trying to be the first one out like always. Zoe didn’t mind since staying behind meant that she got some extra cuddles before heading outside. When Zoe and I finally made our way outside Flash had already smelled around taking in the cool smells that still lingered from the morning dew. Zoe was a little disappointed that he went and sniffed around without her so he decided to accompany her to make up for it. The two wandered around together with Flash always in the lead showing where the best scents were. After all their fun adventuring Zoe and Flash decided they would come over to see me for some cuddle time before the end of group. Zoe loved all the attention and was super happy when I started scratching behind her ears. Flash liked the attention but he seemed to be in a more adventurous mood so he only stayed for a little while before going back out to explore. They both had a wonderful time during groups and I loved getting to spend a few extra minutes with both of them before heading back inside. After group time we got to spend some more time together during their extra attention. We went into the playroom and Flash already knew what he wanted to do so off he went to find a toy so that we could play fetch. Zoe thought it would be nice to get some extra cuddle time with me and also explore the playroom a bit. Flash would throw his toy at me if I didn’t pick it up quick enough the first time since he really wanted to chase it. Zoe nuzzled her head into me while I was playing with Flash and so I gave her a big hug and some more ear scratches. She then went off to see what other cool things were hidden around the playroom.
Pepper couldn’t wait to get outside to meet up with some of the other dogs since she wanted to make as many friends as possible on her first day back. She was the first one out and ran around excitedly greeting all the other dogs as they came out. A few of the others were just as excited to meet her as well so they ran around for a little while before Pepper would run off to meet up with someone else. Once she thought she had met enough of the others it was time to go exploring since so much could have changed since she had last been here. Her nose hit the ground and off she went weaving through the grass trying to discover whatever she could. She searched long and hard for anything she could possibly find that would be cool to show off to her friends. Nothing came up but she did have lots of fun searching through the grass with the warm sun beating down on her. When all the excitement from group time was over we got to spend some more time together by going outside for a walk. Pepper loved getting to explore out front with all the different scents in the long grass waiting for her to discover them. She bounced through the long grass happily while her nose never left the ground. Sadly after a little while we came to the end of our walk and she thought it was time to head back in, but luckily for her we spent a little longer outside in the outdoor pen where she got plenty of cuddles to end our time together. For her training today, Pepper was a very good girl! It only took her a minute and some happy praise for her to get into work mode. We practiced heel, place and sitting calmly while people talked. We also introduced the "go sniff reward", which Pepper really enjoys.
