Groups:

Issy and Mocha had a splendid day with us. They were very keen to head into the staff room where Mocha was quick to find her favourite spot under the table while Issy sniffed around the room. Merida was snoozing on her bed when Issy began walking in circles around her which got Merida pretty excited. Issy and Merida did a little dance before they laid down to snooze. Come walk time, Issy and Mocha were very happy to get hooked up to their leashes and head out on the trail. As usual, Mocha chatted away while Issy and Merida were getting hooked up to their leashes, letting everyone know how excited she was for her walk. They motored along the path with their noses to the ground. It was nice and warm out come play time which Mocha was very please about. She found a nice comfy spot in the sun and relaxed while Issy went off to explore. Rosie was quick to spot Issy across the yard and darted right for her. Unsure, Issy stood still with her tail wagging and nose high in the air. Rosie tried to get her to play by play bowing and darting around her. Showing no interest, Rosie left Issy alone to continue sniffing and exploring. By this time I got Mocha to come in the yard with me and we hung out side by side for a while. Mocha is always such a suck for a good stratch behind the ears or on her bum.

Percy had a great day with us. He loved his morning walk along the trail, as usual. He loves to scurry along by your side. Every once in a while he'll dash ahead to check up on his friends, but then he returns to your side after a quick visit. In the yard today, Percy was thrilled to have access to all three of our yards. He spent the first portion of play time sniffing and exploring his surroundings. Once he settled in he did some searching for a toy. It didn't take Percy long to find a fun green rubber toy. He and I played a long game of keep away. He is excellent at hiding toys from his friends and I. He mostly used the tunnel to escape me trying to snag it from him. Once I finally got it back we played a couple rounds of fetch prior to him meeting up with Kyah in the pool. He then spent the remainder of group time splashing around, cooling off on this hot summer day.

Abbie and Jock are really getting the hang of our daily routine. They are very cute wandering down the halls in the morning. When you put them in their kennel Jock is sure to sniff everything out while Abbie hops up on the cot and lies down. Alyssa had a great time walking them this morning. Abbie motors full speed ahead while Jock dilly-dallies behind with his nose to the ground. Jock spotted me further back and began pulling Alyssa in the opposite direction. The dogs that I had were very excited to see Jock ahead and began pulling forward. Alyssa began jogging to get Jock to motor on ahead and he instantly scurried ahead and caught up to his sister, Abbie. When group time rolled around these two were pretty excited to get out in the yard to sniff and explore. Jock wandered around the yard while Abbie hung out by my side. There’s not much Abbie enjoys more than a good scratch behind her ears and some pats on the bum. Once Jock spotted me giving Abbie some extra loving he made his way over to me an stuck his nose under my hand looking for some as well. He was happy to be pet, but he took off before I could even begin to scratch him. Jock spotted the younger dogs running around in the grassy yard and adventured over to check them out and see what was up. Jock enjoyed hanging out around the perimeter of the yard, supervising the crazy young pups goofing around.

Polly is an absolute bundle of joy. She has so much fun with us; it is great to have her here for daycare. Her outgoing puppy personality adds so much spunk and fun to our playgroups. Her morning started off with a walk, which was a very busy walk I could say…for me at least. She sure knows how to motor. She stared off by zipping in circles around me, causing me to hold the leash above me and move my arm like a windmill so that I didn’t get tangled up. Once she got her zoomies out, she began sprinting as far forward as possible, then running back to me. About half way through our walk, she settled down a little, and began trotting by my side. Come play time, she was full of energy and ready to get going. Her first playgroup of the day was with the smaller dogs and some puppies. She instantly hit it off with a new daycare puppy named Elo. These two were so much fun to watch. Polly showed him the ropes by introducing him to the picnic table, the pool, and myself. Elo was very pleased to have another puppy to hang out with. Once they got to know each other better the fun really got started. These two sprinted around the yard at full speeds doing numerous laps. In between sets of laps, they would head to the pool where they would both cool off. Polly still wasn’t tired after her big outing with the small dogs, so I took her out with my next group as well. This group consisted off some younger, larger dogs. Polly fit right in with his group. She absolutely loved tearing around the agility yard with Rex, Ariel, and Rosie. These three did a great job of showing her who was boss, while having loads of fun. Polly was so excited to meet up with another black lab in the pool named London. When Polly saw London splashing around and laying in the water she insisted on trying it too. Polly was absolutely thrilled when she fully lay down in the pool; she acted as if it were the best feeling in the world! She then continued to stand up and lie down, then do numerous circles, and repeat. Finally by the time this playgroup was done Polly was tired and she was happy to head back into her kennel where she snoozed until the next round of group outings.

Elo had the best first day with us ever! He is absolutely adorable, may I add. As Elo walked down the hall this morning he took his time to sniff all the doorways and flooring. He was great about heading in to his kennel, where he sniffed around and then hopped up on the cot. He sat like a gentleman on the cot, while staring at me with his big eyes. He was happy to be hooked up to a leash and head out for a walk a little later on in this morning. He enjoyed his walk with two black labs, London and Polly. I was very impressed at how well behaved Elo was on his leash. He spent most of the walk a couple feet in front of me with his nose to the ground sniffing all the scents under his paws. Every once in a while he would dart further ahead to catch up to his two friends, London and Polly. He was very excited to see his kennel when we came back inside, his tail began wagging and he zoomed right in and hopped back on the cot and laid down. Come group time, Elo was ready to get going. He motored down the hall and out the open door. He didn’t hold back at all and instantly wandered into the further grassy yard and began sniffing around. He was accompanied by small dogs, and Polly the young lab puppy. Polly was very quick to meet up with Elo and these two quickly got to know each other. I loved watching the fast speeds this two could run at. To my surprise, Elo loved our agility tunnel. He was fast to find it in the yard and loved zooming through it while Polly zoomed around it and met him on the opposite end. In between sets of laps, they would head to the pool where they would both cool off. Elo loved the cool water on his paws, and really enjoyed dunking his muzzle under too. When group time was over, Elo wasn’t ready to head in yet so he stayed outside with the next group of small dogs to burn a little bit more puppy energy.

Kayla is such a sweet girl. She spent her day in the kitchen today, which she enjoyed very much. She got to spend a lot of time with the staff, which made her feel more comfortable. Kayla is a suck for a good pet and some extra cuddles. In the yard today she was happy to sniff and explore on her own. She is very independent, but enjoys the extra attention when it’s offered to her. The young dogs intrigued Kayla in her group today. After she sniffed the perimeter of the gravel yard she made her way to each pup to say hello. The puppies are so energetic and full of beans, but they were very polite to miss Kayla. She wandered around after Joe and Doug, two Siberian husky puppies, until they finally turned around and sniffed her head to toe. She then came wandering back to me looking for some more pets and cuddles.

It looks to me like Bella and Jake have recently gotten haircuts, and they look very nice! These two were very excited to race down the hall this morning and head in to their kennels. They headed out into the yard shortly after their arrival and they were very keen to zip around the yard with their noses to the ground to check out all the smells. Jake only sniffed for a short time before zooming over to me and giving me bundles of kisses and cuddles. He then darted back to find his sister and began dancing around with her. Later on they got to be in a playgroup with our young puppies. Bella was very good at telling them no when they pounced on her looking to play. She taught them a lesson very fast, and after that they didn’t try pouncing on any one else. Jake on the other hand was causing quite the ruckus by zooming around them and play bowing to them then darting away. Jake wanted them to play with him so badly, but his quick fast movements scared them a little bit. Finally, Vega, gave in abd began roaming around the yard with him. She loved chasing after Jake and playing with his tail. It wasn’t long before Jake had enough of babysitting, and came over to me for some cuddles and kisses. Bella spotted Jake on the picnic table with me and was quick to leap up and join in on the extra attention. These two always love to be scratched and cuddled, that’s for sure.

Bandit and Abby were both very eager to go outside to see all of their friends this morning. As they were waiting at their kennel for me to open it, these two couldn’t stop bouncing around with excitement at the thought of being in the yard on a nice day like today. Once they got outside they both ran into the agility yard to start their day. They took off all the way to the other end where they began to explore. Bandit was sniffing around the outdoor kennels on his own. He loves to stick his face through all of the long grass and plants so he can smell them. Abby trotted to the side where it was all grass. She roamed around the yard with her nose to it as she sniffed the ground with each step she took. She made her way over to the fence where she began to walk along the rocks all the way around where she met up with Bandit on the other side of the yard. These two had enough exploring and were looking for something to do. Bandit became really interested in one of the dogs that were outside with him. He started to follow her around the yard trying to sniff her while she just kept on running faster and faster and Bandit decided to make a game out of it. They began to chase each other around the yard. Abby saw them playing and ran over to check it out. She ran up to them and jumped right in front of them to try and get their attention but they just ran right by her. Abby decided to chase after them as well and join in with Bandit. They started to jump up on each other after they were done racing.

Bandit spent some quality time in the playroom with Syarah this morning. He explored the room for a few minutes before stopping at her side for some pets. Once he'd seen all he wanted to in the playroom, Bandit joined Syarah and some of the other staff for some more snuggles in the reception area. We all hung out together until Bandit started to look out the front window. Syarah then hooked him up on a leash and took him out to wander in the front field before heading back for an afternoon snooze.

Roxy and Trixie trotted out the door after they followed all of the other dogs in their group outside and into the yard. They stuck together when they first came out the door and stayed side by side as they began to take off into the further yard to go and explore around the grass. Roxy and Trixie both love to explore and that’s exactly what they do when given the opportunity. As they began to sniff around the grass they split up as they started out, but also made sure not to roam too far away from each other. As they were wandering around, Roxy came up to one of the big boulders that are in the yard. She curiously lifted her head to smell it then decided to jump up on top of it to observe the rest of her group, but mainly Trixie. Trixie noticed Roxy standing up there and trotted over to go and see her. Right as she came up, Roxy jumped down and they continued to go and explore. They made their way back over to the main yard where they started to explore other parts of the yard, such as the picnic table. They circled around it a couple times then walked over to the gravel, in which they seemed to be very interested.

Miko is such a crazy little guy. He always has so much energy built up while he’s in his kennel that by the time he goes out into the yard with all of his friends he can’t help but to do anything except play! He ran out the door and started to skip over to the further yard where he first began to sniff around the grass to do his business. He was sniffing all around the agility jump and then made his way over to the big hole that one of the dogs dug up in the ground. That’s Miko’s favorite; he loves that hole and every time he passes by it he has to stop just to dig in it for a minute. Then he can continue on with his day. Merlin, on the other hand, took his time to roam the yard before saying hello to his friends. When he first walked out the door he trotted over to the new gravel that was put in and started to smell it as some of the other dogs were as well. It intrigued him as he stayed there for a while to explore. After that, he made his way into the further yard. Once he was wandering around the grass he began to sniff around until he came up to Miko. He surprised Miko as he came up behind him, but right after that all MIko could do was follow Merlin around with his nose sniffing away. Merlin kept on running away, making it into a game. They ran around in circles until finally Merlin gave in and Miko give him a sniff. Right after that these two hit it off and began to run around the yard more and Merlin was enjoying it a lot. They took turns as they chased one another around until Merlin got too tired and Miko got distracted with another dog so they took a break. Merlin made his way over to the pool where he sat up on the ledge and drank from it, meanwhile Miko decided to go play with someone else.

Lola and Pearl were so happy when they came in this morning. Pearl was her usual self and ran all the way down the hall as she wiggled and wobbled her body side to side with excitement as Lola trotted behind slowly but surely as we all cheered her down the hall. During groups today, Lola was not feeling the heat but as she stepped outside she decided to go and walk around the gravel for a bit before finding a nice shady spot to lay down. She wandered around as some of the other dogs walked over to her to say hi and give her a sniff. Pearl kept on running away then running back to her to say hi over and over again; it was quite cute. After Lola was done pacing around the gravel she walked back to the door and sat down in her usual spot to get some sun. Eventually her sitting turned to laying down and eventually she dozed off to take a nap. Pearl wasn’t ready for a nap though and this crazy girl ran over to the further yard where she began to run around as she sniffed different spots in the grass. As she was sniffing around some of the other dogs ran over to her to try and get her to play. Miko was all over Pearl at one point so Pearl decided to do a quick lap of the yard with him before he took off in a different direction. Pearl continued to explore more until she finally decided to play and ran over to Miko at the very end of the group to run around with each other before heading inside.

Austin is quite the shy dog. Every time I open his kennel I have to wait for a minute until he settles down and walks over to me for a quick pet. He likes to spend the first little bit of group time on his own, wandering around and getting a feel for all of the other dogs. Today when he went outside for his group Austin, walked out the door and started to scan the yard so he had a clear view of everyone that is outside with him. He watched all of the other dogs as they roamed around and started to play and after he felt comfortable, he started to walk further into the yard and started to go up to some of the dogs and say hello. He was very careful as he began to sniff them but after they gave him a sniff right back he started to run around a bit. He ran into the further yard after he saw me walk into it and began to explore along the fence. He sniffed through all of the tall grass that were by the little rocks and stuck his nose between all of them. After that he started to walk back to the door as Miko ran up to come and say hi. Austin said a quick hello to Miko and they bounced around for a brief minute before continuing on his way. Austin finished his group time by coming over to say hello to me.

Violet had her extra attention today, so we had to figure out what she likes to do best. Leah tried some toys and cuddles but Violet was more interested in going to outside to explore! Since she had just had her morning walk we gave her a break and for her extra attention I took her for a nice walk around the field. She powered through the walk not slowing down for anything! After our walk we settled down in the grass for some cuddles and to relax. It took a few minutes for Violet to realize we weren’t going anywhere and soon laid down beside me for some head scratches and pets. She noticed a few people standing outside and wanted to go say hello being the social butterfly she can be! After our time outside we headed back inside to her kennel to relax until it was her turn to go back outside for groups.

Cats:

Ziggy meowed eagerly at his cubby door when I entered the room this afternoon. I let him out and he hopped right up onto the window sill to have a look outside. He looked like the most adorable sattelite dish with his cone pressed up against the window! I took his cone off so that he could have some more freedom while I was in the room with him. Ziggy took this opportunity to rub his face on the cat tree and have a look inside the cubby box. He had a scratch on the scratching post before hopping down to come and see me. Ziggy rubbed his head on my hand, prompting me to pet him. I gave him some back scratches and belly rubs before it was time to put his cone back on for the afternoon.

Training:

Polly is definitely starting to get the hang of most of her basic commands. Today we started out with a structured walk down the driveway. I had her walk close to my side, reminding her to "heel" if she tried to go too far away. I had her sit lots of times along the way to keep her focused and to keep things interesting. Polly does a great job of sitting, so when we came back from our walk, we worked on "down". Polly insisted on only completing the command for a treat the first few times. Once I knew that she understood what I was asking of her, I would only take the treat out of my pocket every second "down" that she completed. I was even able to back away a few steps and say "OK" before Polly stood up again! She did a great job.
