Duke was all about hanging with his friends today. Normally, whenever you call him in the yard, he turns his head around and comes running towards me straight away! Today, he was obsessed with playing with all the friends he could. At first, he said hello to Maggie and Chloe. He gave them a quick sniff and then wandered off in the yard. He investigated the fence for a bit before going to play with Poppy. She was reluctant to play at first, but it's hard to resist wanting to play with sweet Duke, so she chased and wrestled with him for a little while. Once Poppy wandered off, Duke went for his two very best friends: Dragon and Gryphon. Gryphon was more than happy to wrestle around with Duke. These two jumped on each other and ran around together for a long time. Duke then tried to play with Dragon, but he was lying down beside me and didn't want to play. Duke then realized he hadn't gotten any cuddles yet during group time so he wiggled his way into my lap and got a few ear rubs and a nice back scratch. He nudged me a couple times and then took off towards Gryphon again. These boys played together for a few more minutes. For the last couple minutes of our time outside, Duke wandered around the yard. He spent quite a bit of time near the fence by the nursery. There must have been something interesting on the other side. Just as he was watching, his ears perked up when he saw Ashley walking on the other side. He's always so happy to see his Tails & Trails friends! Duke was pretty happy to be heading up to the front playroom for his extra attention. He did a quick lap around the room checking things out. Duke then made his way over to me to see what we were going to do. We headed for the toy bucket. I showed Duke quite a few toys, but they just weren't what he wanted right at that moment. He made his way back around the room to do an even more thorough examination. With Duke occupied I went and grabbed some treats to stuff in the Kong toy. This quickly caught Duke's eye and he sat patiently while I stuffed it. He tried to steal the treats out before the toy even it the ground. Duke then had fun batting it around for a while. When he finished Duke decided it was time for some pets and attention.
Poppy was very adventurous in the yard today! She was more keen than ever to get out there and run around in the yard. She was the first one to get out there and once I let everyone else out, she was sitting at the door when everyone blew by her and she decided to hang back at first but then she crouched down in a little playful stance and looked up at me. I told her to "run along and play" and she bolted off into the agility yard. Once I caught up with her, she was saying her hellos to her usual friends. Her usual gang of friends were all together again today and they were joined by a new friend, Chloe. Poppy adored Chloe! She followed her around the yard for a long time before heading off and doing her own thing. She went around and sniffed the fences but then returned to Chloe, and this time she was determined to get her to play! Poppy put her little front paws on Chloe's back and then pawed at Chloe's paws. She then started to zoom all around Chloe to get her to run around. Chloe was super excited and played with Poppy for the rest of group time! After playing with Chloe, Duke came right up to Poppy, jumping right on her, and demanding she play with him. Poppy, being the very polite girl she is, ran and wrestled around with Duke for a bit before it was time to head inside. She was so tired by the end that she was more than happy to go in and take a little nap before going outside again.
Syrus had so much fun in the yard today with his group! He was accompanied by Justice and Sage, the huskies, and Molly and Jax, two Golden Retrievers. The highlight of his day was when all his friends started a big game of chase in the yard. Molly was playing with a ball and once Justice began to chase her, Syrus slowly joined in on the fun. He started by following Sage around for the first bit, but once everyone's speed picked up, they were all chasing Justice. Syrus was right on his tail the whole time, and each time Justice would go to swerve into the other yard, Syrus would too and the two of them would go sliding on the ice together. The first time it happened, Syrus was behind Justice and he slid right into him. After that, Syrus had the funniest look of confusion on his face, wondering what happened. They both paused for a second and then took off into the yard again! Syrus was super tired after that, and as I walked by his kennel later, I saw him sleeping on his cot, cuddled up into his fuzzy blanket. He was laying on his back with one paw straight up in the air and he looked so cute!
Jax L. had a really good day today! He started off his morning with a quick outing and a nice walk on the back trail, with his friends Chloe and Maggie. Jax was so excited to walk with these ladies because they are in different groups during the day. It was perfect weather for a walk this morning, and Jax made sure to stop and sniff everything he possibly could. He's such a curious boy. When it was time to go out for his afternoon group, he first spent some time exploring the yard. He got to be in the small dog yard today with his friends so there were plenty of new smells to sniff in the snow. After exploring, Jax saw Molly playing with a red rubber ball and decided to try and steal it. Molly didn't give it up so easily so he had to chase her around the yard for a bit before she dropped it. After Jax finally had the ball, he looked up and everyone was chasing Molly around the yard. Everyone then broke out in a full on chase around the yard. Jax was leaping all over the other dogs, and was right on their tails the whole time. He was sad that their playtime came to an end, but it was all better after he got his lunch time cookie! I gave him his treat and he then gave me a few kisses and I sat on his cot with him for a few minutes and rubbed his ears while he rested his head in my lap. He's just too cute!
Jax S. had a fun day. In the morning, he went out for a short walk with his pal Winston. They stuck together as they explored around the snowy path. Right after he came inside from the walk, it was time for Jax to enjoy his extra attention. He came up to the front where there were lots of toys for him to choose from. At first he was more interested in sniffing around the room because not only was there plenty of toys, there was also a variety of treats on the table as well. Since Jax was being good, I made him sit before giving him one of the yummy peanut butter treats. He chomped away on it, and then came over to me. He pressed his head up against my legs so I knelt down beside him. I gave him some scratches which he seemed to enjoy. Not long after that, it was time for Jax's group to head outside for their outdoor play time. Jax was a bit hesitant at first, he doesn't seem to like the icy ground so he followed the small snow path over to the part of the yard which had no ice. He looked instantly relieved as he stepped his foot into the snowy ground. I know how much he loves to play in the yard with a toy, so I grabbed him a red rubber ball and tossed it his way. This also caught the attention of his friend Cara, who came running over to play as well. They both started barking at me to throw the ball. I came over and grabbed the ball, then tossed it across the yard. The two dogs chased after it. Cara got to the ball first, but Jax came and bulldozed her over. He then lay on top of the ball so that nobody else could get it. Cara barked at him, so he started barking as well. He eventually got distracted by the snow and started eating it. I took advantage of that and grabbed the ball. I tossed it across the yard and they chased after it.
Cara and Brodie had an exciting day. In the morning, they were both hopping up and down with excitement when they saw that I had leashes. I got them leashed up, along with their friend Flora. We headed off for a walk on the snowy forest trails. A little while later, it was time for their group to go outside for outdoor play time. This always seems to be their favourite time of the day. Cara and Brodie stuck by each other when they were first let out into the yard. Brodie had his snout to the ground and was sniffing as he walked. Cara ran off into the further part of the yard and explored around there. Brodie continued to sniff around on his own while Cara began to play with her friend Jax. She saw me tossing the red rubber ball to him, and got super excited. She was wagging her tail and barking at me to throw the ball again. Jax started barking along with her, but I couldn't throw the ball because Jax was lying on top of it. Eventually I was able to get the ball from him, and threw it across the yard. As that was happening, I noticed that Brodie was playing with Jake, Max and Reesa. They were chasing each other around the yard and jumping all over the place. Then, Brodie ran over to his friend Flora. They started pouncing at each other and pawing each other.
