Boris and Syrus met today and these two boys were an instant
match made in heaven. Connected by Tycho, these boys are half brothers. When I
let them out they met up in the hall before they even made it into the yard. I
had to convince them to take their playing into the yard which wasn’t hard at
all. The boys were quick to zoom across the yard and start a huge race
throughout the yard. All their other husky mates quickly joined in on the fun.
Boris and Syrus were thrilled to have Ariel and Vega race around the yard with them.
Puppy Vega was so sassy towards the boys which they seemed to be drawn to. They
began to loop all around her, forcing her into the tunnel to escape their
intense play. It wasn’t long before she peeped out the apposing end and looked
back at them looking for a chase. Boris flew over the tunnel and caught her
before Syrus could figure out what was going on. He then too leaped over the
tunnel and met up with his pals for more wrestling and running. It wasn’t long
before Tasha realized all the shenanigans her son was up to and joined in. Tasha
was fast to begin disciplining him. It wasn’t long after some family disputes
that Tasha tagged along on the wrestling and running. These three loved all the
other huskies in their group in their own way, however, they never left one another’s
sides. It was great watching all these huskies meet up and play so hard, not
caring one bit about the freezing weather.
I had a fabulous last day with Rupert. I will be sad to see
my fetch and cuddle buddy go home. Rupert wasn’t disappointed when we skipped
walks this morning due to the cold as this meant he got an extra group rotation.
An extra group rotation means more fetch! Rupert was thrilled to have us
tossing the ball for him as well as having two people in the yard with him. He
had a tough time deciding if all his attention should be focused on ball, or
pats and cuddles. He decided he would split it evenly, stopping between each
round of fetch for pets and cuddles. Later in the afternoon after a bunch more
fetch he kept me company on the picnic table. Rupert jumped all over me giving
me a bunch of wet kisses. I was happy to have his warmth for all of group time
while his crazy husky friends darted around us.
Max and Sadie were thrilled to get here this morning. Sadie
seems to be built for this weather. She loves to roll around in the snow, burying
her face under the powder and then leaping up and shaking it all over the
place. Max, on the other hand, is a bit of a big baby. He was lifting his paws
and whining and then when I offered for him to go indoors, he refused and
decided to play instead! I think Max likes when I feel sorry for him as it
results in extra pets, cuddles, and kisses from me. Of course, the pair took
part in some intense wrestling. They alternated being in control but it seemed
to be Sadie doing most of the enticing today. Max was happy to be pushed around
by his sister, but only for so long. After lots of rolling in the snow Max
leapt up and took off for a race around the yard. This initially short race
turned into never ending laps around the yard. They are so fast on their feet,
motoring around the yard with their tongues flapping out of their mouths
skimming by my nearly knocking me on the ground over and over. I had great fun
watching the pair play around until they tired each other out. Before it was
time to head in Sadie and Max did a couple laps of the yard with their noses to
the ground. Sadie found herself on top of her favourite picnic table while exploring,
and was soon accompanied by her brother. The pair had one more romp around
before heading back to their kennel for a warm afternoon nap.
The small dog group really braved through the bitter cold
this morning but luckily for them, most of them adorned their fancy winter
jackets; practical and of course they all looked extra cute! Abby and Jock
looked especially cute in their matching blue and red coats and you would never
have known that the cold bothered them, in fact they embraced it and you could
see Abby rolling around on her side getting a good scratch from the cold ice on
the ground. I meant to keep the small dog group fairly short and bring them
inside for the rest of their time due to that bitter wind, but they all ended
up having so much fun together that we finished their group outside and luckily
the sun came out just in time to take the edge off. While Abby was rolling
around in the snow in the front yard, Jock made his way into the far yard to
explore, once he made a few laps, our little Shelby joined him and enticed him
to chase her. Abby quickly ran over when she heard the commotion and these two
little ones chased and played with Shelby all morning long with no regard to
the chill. Next up they were due for a spa day in the grooming salon, a perfect
way to spend an afternoon if I do say so myself!
Finnigan spent most of his time this morning playing with
our bloodhound rescue brothers Jake and Buck. He always loves a good wrestle
with these two gentle giants but today he could barely leave them alone! It
almost looked like he was giving them little kisses on the nose, but truth be
told I think they may have had some remnants of their breakfast hidden in their
floppy cheeks and Finn couldn’t resist. The hounds were ecstatic that they had
the ever-playful Finn chasing them around and got in a good mornings play.
Anyone out with Finn is bound to run their energy out with this silly pup. If he
wasn’t wrestling with the hounds he was chasing after pal Muggins and horsing
around with old friend Anejo who was taking comfort between my feet. Finn was
so excited when his best human friend Leah came out into the yard; he sprinted
over and gave her a great big bear hug and let her coddle him like a baby as he
barked and snapped at the curious dogs from below. When it was time to go back
inside, Finn made his signature move and played dead in protest; we think it’s
just a ploy for more attention and belly rubs!
Two of the happiest brothers around and Tails and Trails
regulars Fez and Rex greeted us this morning more excited then ever to start
their stay with us. They were immediately whisked away and out into the yard
for some playtime. Well playtime for Rex, we all know and love how much this
guy loves to horse around and was happy to see Sophie and Tsavo out in the yard
and got all the attention he needed. Fez, the happy boy, stayed close to my
side because although he is young and fierce at heart, at times he forgets his
age so slow and steady wins the race. He was thrilled to go out and get a nice
walk and greet some of the other faces, you could see his contentment written
all over his face with his big floppy tongue hanging out the side. He even enjoyed
watching his silly brother Rex roll around on his back in the snow in sheer
joy; I looked over at Fez and thought to myself, don’t you even think about it!
It was a great first morning for these two wonderful boys and there will be
lots more to come!
