Saturday December 3rd, 2016

This morning, Dragon and Gryphon were absolutely full of energy as they waited for their morning walk. As soon as they saw me coming down the hall to get them, both of them went nuts! Gryphon was bouncing off of every wall that surrounded his kennel while Dragon proudly showed off his loud voice to get my attention. Once I got into their kennel Dragon started giving me as many kisses as he could. Gryphon simply wanted me to play with him so he was constantly trying to get me to play tackle with him. Eventually they settled down and were ready to go for their walk. I think they had just fooled me into believing that they had calmed down because as soon as I opened the hallway door, Gryphon high-tailed it outside with Dragon right behind him. The two boys were at the end of their leashes in no time with me trying to keep up. They definitely kept me on my toes at the beginning of their walk. We were back walking on the front trail today so Gryphon was loving the change of scenery. He kept bouncing all over the place, sometimes even on top of Dragon. Dragon settled down pretty quickly and enjoyed walking beside me for most of his walk. When it came to their outdoor group, they were both just as excited to get outside and meet some old, as well as new, friends. Gryphon made sure to greet everyone in sight as he raced around the yard a few times. He did a good job of giving everyone an overall sniff before racing back to see Dragon. Dragon also enjoyed greeting some of his friends but was more preoccupied with the scents in the yard. He followed his nose for quite some time before deciding to join Gryphon for some play time. Dragon and Gryphon got all sorts of wound up for the rest of their group time; they spent all of their time chasing each other around, splashing in all of the puddles from the melted snow, and of course jumping on me so that I was just as messy as them. For a little while I had Gryphon playing with a big red ball but he'd always get very distracted by the other dogs and simply run off to play with them. Dragon also stuck around a few of his friends in the group. He always seemed to want to know what each and every dog in his group was doing so he was kept pretty busy for the most part.

George and Titan were both early birds this morning as they waited for me to let them out for their very first morning group. Titan was already completely full of beans as he raced around all over their kennel. George wasn't as mobile just yet but he was sure ready to get outside and greet his group friends and made that clear as he pushed past me to go outside as fast as he could. I think George was still a little shocked from the cold breeze as once he got outside, he seemed to sort of just pause and then decided to continue on. Titan had no time to pause, he just wanted to go see everyone. In Titan's mind, even if he's been with the same dogs for a week, they're still so very exciting to go and see each and every time. It's quite cute actually because he greets almost every dog with so much enthusiasm as if he's never met them before. After a few rounds of the yard, I think Titan was ready to go back into his kennel and get all warm and snuggly once again. Once George saw Titan moving inside he raced after him to try and get the comfiest bed first, I'm not entirely sure which one he wanted but by the time I got inside, the two of them were as warm as could be and snuggled up in beds beside one another. When it came time for their morning walks, Titan had an exciting one on one walk since his walking buddy had left a bit earlier than expected. Titan didn't seem to mind and actually enjoyed the extra attention that he got throughout the walk. He kept stopping and turning around to come and see me for some extra chin scratches. Once he even convinced me to give him a quick belly rub while we were in the midst of walking. This also gave him the opportunity to roll around in the grass on his back which he really enjoyed as well. At some points of his walk, Titan would see a bird and race after it with me trying to catch up from behind. Silly little guy. After he was done chasing it he'd turn around with a funny look on his face and race back to me as if I wouldn't even notice. George went for a bit of a shorter walk out in the front yard with one of our older huskies named Merlin. The two of them always get along very well so it's a perfect match. George was quite excited for his walk and couldn't wait to start sniffing. Going out into the front yard always has so many new smells for him so he's definitely preoccupied at all times. George convinced me to walk all over the place with him so that he could keep sniffing. We went up on top of the hills, into the puppy pen, and down the driveway. During their group time, George and Titan remained on the own for the most part. George didn't seem to want to bother with any of the dogs other than Titan and joined me occasionally for a snuggle. Titan greeted everyone just as usual but for the most part he just ventured into the yard with his nose on the ground to see what he could find. I had the two of them playing with a big red ball that I found in the yard for a little while but they both decided that sniffing was better.

Gunnar had another wonderful day today as he began with a brisk morning walk. He was patiently waiting for me in his kennel like the good boy he is. That was until I got him on his leash and he decided that he was ready to go go go! Gunnar raced down the hallway and was so excited to who was going to be joining him for his walk. When he realized who was going with him, he started running around the yard and bouncing all over the place. After he got all of the beans out, Gunnar raced to the end of his leash and had his friends follow him. He started his walk by going as fast as he possibly could and darted into the back field. For the most part of his walk Gunnar kept at the end of his leash while trying to get me to jog or even run with him. We end up jogging around part of the trail but not everyone was as excited to run so after a little while we slowed it back down. Gunnar did a few other things during his walk which were; following all of the new scents in the front trail, running from side to side and getting himself all tangled up in the leashes, and coming back to greet me with a kiss and get a quick head scratch. When it came time for his outdoor play group, Gunnar was just as excited to go outside as he was for his walk. This time he just couldn't wait to go out and barreled down the hallway as fast as a race horse. Once he got outside, his first priority was to run a few laps around the agility yard before saying hi to his new friends. Gunnar was put into a fun new group today so that he could meet even more friends during the rest of his stay. He was very excited to see all these new faces and decided he had to greet each and everyone before continuing on with his group. For the most part of his group, he was high tailing it at all times. Gunnar also found two new friends that he became best friends with. He spent almost all of his time either chasing them around the yard or being chased by them. When Gunnar wasn't with his friends, he enjoyed playing fetch with me and a big red ball that I had found in the yard.

Caleigh loved hanging out in the staff room today! There were so many people going in and out, and she got plenty of attention. For the morning she had her new friend Gunner in there to keep her company. She had a nice walk which was spent exploring the trail. When it was time for groups, Caleigh happily followed me to the yard so she could make even more friends! The first dog she bumped into was another golden, by the name of Tucker. He was looking to cuddle with me, so Caleigh took this chance to give Tucker a good sniff. She seemed to like Tucker and wandered around the yard with him for a little while. They ended up with another crowd of dogs – Chigo, Skie and Jynxx – who were busy running around like crazy. Caleigh watched them for a bit and then, feeling a little overwhelmed by all of the activity, made her way over to see me again. We cuddled until Caleigh was feeling up to exploring the yard again. Caleigh’s buddy Tucker joined us as we headed to the other side of the yard, where Caleigh immediately set to work sniffing around by the fence. The other dogs had quieted down by this point so Caleigh was much more confident while she mingled with her group. She definitely enjoyed socializing with everyone but was happy to head back inside for a nap and more cuddles in the staff room!

Finnigan, as usual, was a bundle of energy. Even after his walk this morning he was still bouncing around like crazy! Luckily his group was full of equally as playful dogs, so we put that energy to good use. First, Finnigan met up with Jemma, his friend from daycare. The two of them made a beeline for each other and then pounced at the same time. Finnigan ended up flailing around on the ground while Jemma attempted to sit on him. They continued to play until Finnigan noticed some new additions to the group, Buck and Jake. Finn was absolutely amazed by these two and hurried over to say hello. He was running around their legs and it was clear that the bloodhounds weren’t quite sure what to do with him. Eventually Finnigan was distracted by Muggins and Taos sprinting across the yard. He raced after them to see that they were chasing Pippin, who had just dived into the tunnel. With Barley on his tail, Finnigan didn’t even hesitate to run headfirst into the tunnel after Pippin. Finnigan had a great time playing with everybody! They were running all over the place. For the rest of his group time, Finnigan alternated between chasing them around, wrestling with Jemma and carrying around all of the toys he could find. His favourites were a red ball, which he enjoyed chasing, and a rope toy, which he used to have a game of tug-of-war with Jemma.

Sadie is such a delightful girl. Since she is supposed to stay fairly quiet, we headed out for a short leash walk so that Sadie could explore and enjoy some one-on-one time, instead of roughhousing in the yard. She was very excited to head outside and could hardly sit still at the door! A few times I managed to catch her attention for some pictures, though mostly Sadie just wanted to wander around and sniff everything. She trotted over to the edge of a big puddle and contemplated whether or not she should stick her feet in. Eventually Sadie decided against it and headed over to sniff around by the lounge. It seemed that nothing could keep her attention for very long as all of it was just too interesting, and Sadie was hurrying from place to place. Eventually she slowed down and ended up at my feet, waiting for a cuddle. She happily sat on my shoes while I gave her a scratch behind the ears. Then she bounced up and went back to exploring. She must have had an itch because suddenly Sadie flopped over and started rolling around with all four feet waving in the air. She certainly seemed to be having fun on our little expedition. After we walked a bit farther, Sadie decided that it was time to head back and we made our way to the building slowly so that Sadie could make sure she sniffed everything on the way there.

Daisy was super friendly with me in the cat room this afternoon. She has really started to warm up to everyone very well here at Tails & Trails. When I entered the room, Daisy was napping in her usual spot, in the cubbie of the cat tree. There was a super fuzzy blanket in there and she was nestled right in. She woke up once I took a photo of her sleeping and she immediately came out from the cat tree and nudged her head right against me. I pet her back and rubbed her head behind her ears, which she seemed to love. She then went for a short trip around the room to scope it out before returning to where I was. She walked up onto my lap, stood there for a second and then went to rub her head on the post of the tree. She posed for a few more stunning photos, showing off her beautiful fluffy coat, before she went to perch on the window sill. She stayed there until I left her, and she sat there for a while before coming down to munch on some dinner.
