Thursday December 8th, 2016

Tsavo was pleased to re-unite with her husky friends during groups this morning. She started off by sniffing out each dog politely saying her hello’s prior to settling down next to me. Tsavo was happy to receive pets and cuddles while watching her playful friends goof around. She wasn’t too sure about the busy action at first, however after Vega invited her to join in she thought it over and decided to participate. Tsavo was happy to romp around with her puppy pal Vega as well as two of our new bloodhound rescues Buck and Jake. These four were very silly dashing all around the yard. Muggins wasn’t far behind and the four soon became five. Tsavo wasn’t sure about Muggins silly behaviour and politely declined playing with her. She then made her way back to my side for some more cuddles before setting out to explore the yard.

Cai has been such a great boy lately. He was wonderful on our morning walk, accompanied by his sister. While she dashed around sniffing the trail, Cai stuck right by my side very focused on the task at hand. He was so good only straying from my side to do his business and do some sniffing. In the yard today Cai was ready to meet up with some dogs and get playing. He was quick to find his old friend Kyah and begin flirting with her. She was happy to have his attention and let him bounce all around her requesting her to play. The duo briefly boxed around before setting off on a chase around the yard. Cai was hot on her heels for a while until he was distracted by youngster Jemma. Cai then devoted his attention to her, asking her over and over to play. She was much to focused on her ball, leaving Cai to run after her. After some laps around the yard Cai put his nose to the ground to do some sniffing and exploring. During this time, he found Kyah once again and the pair continued to play around. This time, Kyah was rolling on her back while Cai was dancing in circles around her. They continued to have fun until it was time to head indoors for a rest prior to their next outing.

I was a little sneaky with Issy and Mocha today when I shut the gate to the door, forcing them to wander out into the yard. I was pleasantly surprised to have Mocha follow me around the entire yard. She loved all the attention I gave her when she stuck by my side. Mocha was also very happy to find the sun shining in the main yard. She got pretty comfy in a great spot and basked in the warm rays. It wasn’t long before group mates Kyah and Spencer requested a game with Mocha. She really wasn’t sure about this and politely declined. Kyah left Spencer's side to keep Mocha company and the duo then enjoyed the warm sun together. Meanwhile Issy had her nose to the ground, thoroughly investigating the entire agility yard. Issy shocked when young Jemma asked to play. She stuck her nose up to her and dashed off, as if she thought Jemma was nuts for requesting a game. Jemma wasn’t going to let Issy go that easily and continued to request her to play. Soon, Teddy was in on it and was bouncing in circles all around Issy. Issy briefly gave in to the duo’s request to play, and danced around in the snow with them. Once they had enough of her they took off, leaving her in peace to sniff and explore.

Percy never fails to find a ball in the yard. I had no idea where our balls had gone after the recent snow fall, so I was very thankful to have him around. After running a couple laps of the yard I spoke the magical words “go find the ball” and he stuck his nose to the ground and began zooming around. He was quick to find the red rubber ball beneath some snow and instantly brought it back to my feet. We played a couple rounds of fetch which drew the attention of his friend Teddy. The duo competed for the ball over and over until Teddy gave up. Percy was proud of himself and began dancing around showing off his treasure. Soon after, Percy found another ball in the yard. We played some fetch with the orange ball but this one wasn’t as easy for him to hold. When he went back to find the red ball he was absolutely shocked to see his friend Spencer running around with it. Percy quickly began to race after Spencer with a goal to get his favourite ball back. Spencer wasn’t going to let up easy. After laps and laps around the yard and much teasing on Spencer’s part, he finally gave the ball back to Percy to play with his friends. Percy was thrilled and finished his time off in the yard by lying down and gnawing on it.

Teddy was full of energy today, and couldn’t wait to get going. We had a great walk with his two best friends Spencer and Percy. Teddy lead the pack along the trail, paving a nice trail in the crunchy snow. He had his nose to the ground for the entire trot, ensuring to capture every scent left behind from other dogs. In the yard, today Teddy was mostly focused on Justice and Kyah playing silly games on the tunnel. These two are known for wrestling and boxing on the tunnel, play biting at one another while trying to get each other on to the ground. Teddy couldn’t get a handle on their games and was intensely trying to let them know what the should and shouldn’t be doing. Kyah and Justice paid no attention to Teddy sprinting and barking which only lead him to work harder. Soon, he was leaping over the tunnel himself. He was doing endless laps around the tunnel and flying over it. This was very entertaining for me to watch, and very entertaining for him to do. Finally, Kyah and Justice let up on the wrestling, leaving Teddy feeling like he did a job well done. He then met up with some other friends to race around with before it was time to head indoors.

Spencer had an absolute hoot during groups today! He was so playful from start to finish. Spencer couldn’t have been happier to re-unite with an old pal of his, Kyah. I forgot that these two used to always goof around. The duo met up by the tunnel while Kyah was lying across it. Spencer politely asked her to play by pawing at her and then mouthing at her neck. Kyah was all for this and leapt off looking for a game. The duo then began to slowly romp around, necking at one another and swapping paws back and forth. They were having lots of fun as another friend, Justice accompanied them. This trio had loads of fun wrestling and boxing. Spencer was so full of beans that he tucked out of their games and began to zoom around the yard in search of a chase. Jemma was happy to hop on his train and begin zooming around. Spencer did loads of laps around the yard with his friend hot on his heels. During his racing he came across a lovely ball sitting in the yard. He scooped this up and began showing it off to his mates. Percy was quick to pick up on his treasure and become pretty jealous. Spencer showed it off by lying down on the ground, keeping it right between his paws. Kyah distracted him, leaving the ball for Percy, and Kyah and Spencer then returned to their silly games before it was time to head back indoors.

Jemma continues to put a big smile on my face every Thursday. We started our morning off with a great walk accompanied by two friends Issy and Mocha. Issy and Mocha are older, independent girls, who allow Jemma to focus on walking rather than playing. She was great today, walking ahead of me not trying to dance around at all. After her business walk, Jemma was happy to get out in the yard and begin playing around. Lucky girl got to participate in two groups today. She was happy with her first group which consisted of much more running than wrestling.  Jemma was keen to race around with whoever invited her. Jemma also found a bright orange ball today which kept her quite occupied. She loved playing keep away from the other dogs, as well as myself. After finally getting it back from her we played a couple rounds of fetch before she was distracted by her friends. She then met up with Justice who was very smitten towards her. Jemma was happy to be the centre of attention and began rolling around allowing him to bounce all over her. This pair had loads of fun before it was time to head back indoors. The next group Jemma got to partake in was more her style; loads of wrestling and rolling. Jemma quickly met up with Muggins and the pair quickly hit it off. Jemma couldn’t have been happier to meet so many fun dogs today.

The small dog group today was large and in charge this morning and that was because they were joined by some of our playful staff dogs! Tag could hardly contain her excitement with all of the new faces out there and had her pick of the bunch to play with. She started off with a good chase around the yard with little ones Resa and Max and Tag’s whole body vibrated with excitement as she flew across the air and that beautiful fur of hers blew in the wind behind her! Next up, she noticed Charly was playing with the squeaky red ball and made her way over to see if she could join in but didn’t realize how much of challenge it would be to sneak the ball away. With much patience, Tag snatched the ball up in her mouth and pranced around the yard in pride but making sure not to bump into Julie who was scootering around like a speed-demon in her chair! Tag had to fend of both Charly and Tomy who were anxiously trying to get the ball back; Tag loved all of the attention from these two playful pups. It wasn’t long before she dropped the ball and ran over to little Shelby to end her morning with a good wrestle with this little one. The two of them hopped, skipped and play-bowed the morning away! We were happy to see Maya and Rocky back in for daycare again today and they were just as happy to be greeted by some new friendly faces out in the yard. Well Maya sure was, Rocky on the other hand couldn’t be bothered, he much preferred to take his usual seat in the snow but today he was in good company. Both Sky the Husky and little Resa kept him company most of the morning and again he enjoyed that beautiful rare sun we had shining down on us this snowy morning. We all know how much Maya loves a good play and today she took her time to eye out the competition and made her move just at the right moment. She darted in from the front yard and joined the crew by the agility tunnel for a good group-wrestle. She especially loved nuzzling noses and bumping bums with the wiggly Charly. Much like Tag, Maya had her pick of the pack to play with today because she was surrounded by such happy-go-lucky pups just like her and really enjoyed her time making new friends.

Max and Sadie were one of the many happy faces I got to see this morning bright and early. They were just finishing up their breakfast and ready to go outside for their first outing. A few big-stretches later from Max and they were ready to go! The fun continued shortly after with a nice long morning trail walk, Sadie’s favourite part of the day! Max’s favourite part of the day has to be his second outing when he has the most energy to play and leap across the yard with his silly sister. Although Sadie wasn’t giving him as much attention today, she heard something out in the field and was very curious to find out what it was. She took a seat up on the rock to get a better view and stuck her nose up in the air to see if she could sniff it out. Max wasn’t too impressed with her, in fact he was quite bored but that meant he spent most of his time by my side for some bum scratches as we watched the curious Sadie pace around the yard. The morning wouldn’t be complete however with their usual wrestle, a quick few laps around the yard and it was time to come back in for an afternoons rest.

George and Titan started their morning off on the right paw; their extra attention time with our staff up front for two of the most cuddliest boys around! Shortly after it was time to head on outside and spend some time with their favourite friends. Titan was quite the flirt this morning as he spent his time with beautiful husky ladies Jynxx and Skie who love his company just as much. The three of them ran around the yard together as a pack making sure to make a stop by the muddy hole. Jynxx jumped right in and dug out some ice chunks that the three of them could bunch on. Titan was pleased that Jynxx did all of the dirty work to collect the ice! George was off making his usual routine laps around the yard as if he was on a mission, only taking his nose away from the ground when I would call his name and he would gallop over towards me with that great big grin on his face. He then ran over to the door and barked to tell me that he wanted to go back inside; in he went and rolled around in the blankets before his brother came in to join him later. Rupert my best pal kept me busy most of the morning playing fetch with his favourite red ball. This sweet boy is so good at dropping the ball at my feet after he fetches it, but if I don’t throw it back in record time he looks up at me with the most curious face as he patiently waits for me to throw it again! Rupert is definitely a people dog and although he enjoys the company of his four-legged companions he especially loves the attention he gets from the human kind. He is a very curious boy and loves to follow you around the yard, ball in mouth or not. Occasionally he will run off to see what the others are doing but once he notices you walking away, he quickly makes his way back over, the perfect spot to be for extra head rubs!

Rupert was pretty excited when it was time for his extra attention. He went charging up to the front playroom and stood impatiently by the door. When I finally caught up we made our way into the room. Rupert went running over to the toy bin and gave me an expectant look. I rooted through the bin until I found a toy I thought he would like. Apparently I was correct and Rupert started bouncing around waiting for me to throw the toy. It wasn't long before we had a good game of fetch going on. Rupert is always so good at bringing the toy back and dropping it pretty close to whoever is throwing. Today I decided to make him work a little harder and ask him to drop the toy as close as possible every time. If he put it too far or it rolled away, I'd ask him to go get it and bring it closer. I think he was a little exasperated with me, but he did it. Eventually I made Rupert take a bit of break since he'll play fetch till the cows come home! We spent some time just hanging out until our time was up.

George and Titan confirmed how much they've been enjoying playing in the front playroom. I opened the door to the front hallway and instead of running past the door to the playroom and into the front room, which they easily could have done with the door open, they stopped at the playroom door and stood waiting impatiently for me to let them in. They went charging into the room and started looking around. I think they quickly realized I hadn't brought any treats and turned to give me dirty looks. Taking the hint I went and got some treats to stuff into some toys. Today instead of using two kongs I filled a kong and a pink pig toy. After I gave George and Titan each one, they set off to bat them around, before both deciding to take on the pig. Once all the treats were gone, they spent a little more time double checking that they hadn't missed anything. George then decided to settle down with the kong toy and have a little chew on it. Titan made his way over to the toy bin and found himself a bone. He then found himself a spot in the middle of the room and settled down to chew on that. They both enjoyed their leisure time for a while until George decided it was time for some pets and attention. He headed over to me and was quite happy to receive all the pets. George especially enjoyed placing his head in my lap and getting ear rubs. Titan not wanting to miss anything came over to get some pets of his own. He then got distracted by a blue toy. Titan snatched it up, brought it over to his bone and settled down for another chew.
