Friday. December 30th, 2016

Rumple was so pleased when I entered the cat room. He briefly woke up and let out a big stretch, only to curl right back up in his bed. He gave me a sweet look, asking for pets and cuddles. I was happy to sit down next to Rumple in his bed and give him loads of attention. He is an absolute suck for chin scratches and ear rubs. While I was spending lots of time with Rumple, Harlow caught on and bombarded our one on one time. I then devoted some attention to the very playful boy, Harlow. Today Harlow was introduced to the laser pointer and boy was he excited. I had Harlow racing around the cat room with such agility. He would be a great hunter. Harlow was leaping all over the room, over furniture and up the wall. Anything to catch the little red dot. A friend, Tulo, soon joined in on the fun only to be discouraged by Harlow's skill, always beating her to the dot. Harlow and I then continued to play around. I tried to get him playing with other toys after I put the pointer away but the silly boy was very confused as to where the dot went. He continued to explore the room, looking for the red dot. After laps around the room, Harlow settled down on the floor and was happy to be pet and cuddled before heading back into his condo for a nap.

Coco and Timbits had a great day. When they arrived in the morning, they were happy to come in and see all of their friends. The first thing they did was get out on their walk on the trails. They got to walk with their pal Resa, The three friends enjoyed their walk together. Not too long after that, it was time for Coco and Timbits to get outside for their first group play time. Timbits was so excited and pouncing around the yard as soon as he was outside. He pounced over to all of his friends and sniffed them. Coco wandered off on her own to the farthest part of the yard. She sniffed around in the snow for a while before finding a chunk of snow to crunch on. Timbits saw Coco crunching on something and came over. Coco turned her head and ran in the other direction to stop Timbits from stealing her chunk of snow. After a while Timbits gave up and ventured off to find his own snow to chew on. Coco and Timbits both saw that there was a game of frisbee happening in the yard. They raced over and joined the game. At one point, Coco got the frisbee in her mouth, then Monty and Cara grabbed it as well. They all pulled it in different directions. Timbits really enoyed playing around in the snow, and everytime I would see him his nose would be covered in snow. Timbits also hung out with his friend Winston.

Brodie and Cara had a nice day together. In the morning, they were excited as always to get on their walk. They walked with their friend Monty. The trio of dogs had a great time exploring the snowy trails together. When it came time for Cara and Brodie's group to get outside for a play time. Cara was so excited to be outside and immediately started exploring around to find a toy for her to play with. Brodie enjoyed wandering around the yard checking everything out. Cara eventually found a big bright pink frisbee. She lunged at it and dug at the snow around the frisbee. She then looked at me and started barking. I picked up the frisbee and all of the other dogs in the yard came running over to join Cara in the game of fetch. I tossed it across the yard. Cara and her friends chased after the frisbee. Cara, Coco and Monty all latched onto the frisbee and played around with it like a tug of war game.

Duke enjoyed lots of playing and cuddling today. In the morning, Duke was happy to get out on a walk with his friend, Lexi. They had a wonderful time exploring the snowy trails in the forest. Duke seemed to be anticipating getting outside for his group play time. He danced around when I came to let him outside. As soon as I let he was in the yard, he bolted over to all of his friends. He greeted a few, but then was distracted by some sounds coming from the other side of the fence. He ran over and peeked through the cracks in the fence. He watched what was going on on the other side. Eventually he got bored of doing that, and ran back over to his friends. He pounced at Mel, and then started sniffing him. Mel sniffed him back. Duke continued to pounce around at Mel, until he saw Gryphon walk by. Duke galloped over to Gryphon. Duke put a paw on Gryphon's back, which made Gryphon spin around to face Duke. They pounced around at each other, then Duke ran off to the other end of the yard. I called him over, and he came running. He sniffed me, then turned around and backed into me so that I would scratch his back. I knelt down with him and gave him tons of cuddles. Duke and I had so much fun during his extra attention this morning! He was bouncing with excitement as we headed to the playroom. Duke wandered around and checked things out while I got some of his treats. Immediately noticing the goodies in my pocket, he quickly sat down and waited patiently for a reward. I had him sit and lay down a few more times until we were out of treats, and then Duke decided it was time for a cuddle. He flopped over on his side and looked like he might fall asleep while I rubbed his belly. After that, Duke explored the room a bit more, nosed around the toys and tried out the chair and the couch, before we headed back to his kennel.

Anja was ready to go again for another big day of playing and horsing around! In true Anja nature, she was just vibrating with excitement from the moment she stepped foot out in that yard and likely won’t stop until she gets home, if then! She saw some familiar faces out there including best Golden friends Jax and Pippin whom she had so much fun playing with the other day. In usual fashion, Pippin rolled around on her back in the snow while Jax and Anja pounced and wrestled from above. Today they had a few more friends that waned to join in, including playful Husky pals Koda and Justice. With Koda and Justice around, that meant plenty of laps around the yard with Anja eagerly trying to keep pace with the boys and she sure did! Jax, my smiling boy was truly in his glory out there and today I think he felt as though he was truly part of the pack with all those silly Husky pups out there but was thankful to have fellow Pippin by his side as well. Jax simply adores Pippin and Pippin doesn’t mind his attention either! Glued to the hip, these two wrestled and chased one another all morning long as heaps of beautiful golden fur flew around in the air!

Finnigan, arguably the most playful boy around, was pleased to join his friends for a day lounging in the staff room again. He has especially been enjoying the company of big Bentley who likes to get the staff-room party started by throwing blankets around in the air like he just don’t care and Finn just finds this hilarious! Every time I would walk by, Finn was rolling around on his back while Bentley was redecorating the room and little Merida and Shelby were watching the show from the bed! Luckily Finn saved some of that energy for the big play session outside where he and Shelby played ball. Just when he thought he was going to have the ball all to himself because ball-loving Charly was at home, he was wrong, Shelby was ready to play and although small, she gave Finn a run for his money! Back and forth they ran and kicked up snow behind them and even Portie pups Emma and Tennya decided to join in; Finn just has that energy that brings all the dogs to the yard! Guess who was last to come in? Finn and Shelby to no surprise!

Max and Sadie were waiting patiently in their kennel for their turn to go out and have fun in the snow, which is their favourite time of the day apart from their morning trail walks! With a few squeals later, Max lunged into the yard after I gave him the go-ahead with Sadie right behind him. First up was a few running laps of the yard, they have to stretch out those long legs before anything else! While Max and Sadie were exploring the yard with their noses buried in the snow, I found the ball and hid it behind my back. I finally got the attention of Max and gave him a glimpse of his favourite ball; boy was he excited and sat like a good boy until I flung it in the air. This of course got the attention of Sadie and she ran after Max who was galloping around with the red ball in his mouth knowing Sadie would soon be by his side. The rest of the morning was a back and forth exchange of the ball between the two of them and of course some signature Max-Sadie wrestles in the snow. Sadie was pretty tired by the end of it and had to take a rest in the mountain of snow but Max thought to himself that he couldn’t wait to get back out and do it all over again!

I was excited to have Sophie the Golden in my next group; she is very similar to Golden Jax who is a fun-loving retriever with the greatest smile but just a girl version! I think she was pretty happy when it was her turn to go out, she was literally grinning from ear-to-ear as she ran laps from one yard to the next. Next it was time to roll around in the snow and get a good scratch of her back; it must be a Golden thing, you could see almost every Golden today making doggy-angels in the fluffy snow. I was momentarily distracted by Lola who was begging for my affection at my feet and Sophie immediately got jealous and quickly swooped in for her turn of hugs and kisses. She took a big seat by my feet and nudged my hands until I rubbed her head. Not a bad place two be, two sweet Golden girls by my side!
