Kai was thrilled to be back today in our
care; its been a while since we have seen that sweet face of hers! But she was
even more excited to meet up with wiggly daycare pals Polly and Georgia, who
were whipping up a storm around her. Kai loves the action and once she warms
up, you can often see her flying around the yard in excitement, but for now she
kept to her usual calm demeanor as she explored her surroundings. That didn’t
stop her from splashing around in the puddles with that great big smile of hers
drawn across her face. In fact, everyone was thrilled to have free range of the
wet yard, especially for a frisky lab like Polly. Polly could not contain her
excitement and spastically jumped from puddle to puddle while trying to steal
the toys away from Golden girls Molly and Charly. She would sneakily grab one
of the red balls then go drop it in the puddle, only to try and frantically dig
it up a moment later. While she wasn’t nose deep in the water trying to fetch
her ball, she was excitedly chasing Georgia around the yard along with the rest
of the pack. Georgia loves being the centre of the attention and she had all
the attention she could ever want today from a group of pups that were trying
to keep up to her agile ways. Everyone wanted to play with Georgia today but
she was much too quick, making it an exciting challenge for the rest of the
gang. Georgia would often try to take cover under my legs but this only sent a
group of very wet and muddy dogs my way, thanks Georgia!
Kai happily followed me down the hallway and into the reception area for her extra attention session, and we literally mean extra attention, all Kai wanted was cuddles and belly rubs and of course a few treats to sweeten the deal. I started off by rubbing Kai’s head as she happily took a seat by my feet and if I stopped even for one second she was pawing at me for more! She also put those paws to good use when she politely sat and gave me a “paw” for a liver treat, such a smart cookie! Then she decided that she wanted to lounge out on the comfy bed that was just calling her name, I decided to give her a nice brushing down her back and this was so soothing that before I knew it she was dozing off with her head collapsed on the bed! Kai spent the rest of her time relaxing up front with me and she made the best company!
Our pint-sized friends were just as excited
if not more excited to be out and about in the wet yard this morning for a
session of play. New pals Bruno and Cloud led the pack all the way into the far
yard with Pelley and Miko not far behind. Lots of puddles to jump through to
get there and instead of going around, they embraced the water with their tiny
legs and loved every minute of it, no way you can keep a dog out of a puddle!
By the time Cloud made his way out there, he was already soggy as can be and
ready to play. He has become such a confident little guy and is truly loved by
all of his friends, especially Bruno. In fact, Bruno can’t keep his little paws
off of him, always enticing him to a wrestle or a chase around the yard. Cloud
loves the attention but loves playing with the balls just as much and had his
pick of the toys today, lots to choose from! While Cloud was occupied with his
toys, Bruno ran back to me for some love, we all know how much he is a sucker
for human attention and got endless amounts of head rubs before he was off
chasing Cloud again. Pelley was right out there with the rest of the bunch and
she was supervising the play this morning. She loves to jump up on higher
surfaces like the rock or picnic table so she has a better view of the yard.
When things were getting too silly between Cloud and Bruno, she would leap off
her rock to break it up, but really she just wanted to join in and play. Soon
enough Miko was right there with her and the four of them had a blast running
around the yard together! Miko loved chasing little Cloud around, but like the
curious boy he is, always had one eye on me to make sure he could run away the
moment I told them it was time to go back inside and sure enough when it was
time, he headed in the opposite direction in protest, some things never change!
After a morning of play, Pelley was ready
to dry off and happily joined me in the playroom for her extra attention
session. She was excited to have the whole room to herself but probably more
excited to have my attention directly with her for the rest of the morning. She
spent some time lounging on the table for cuddles, again with the high
surfaces! Then we exercised our legs and chased one another around the room,
she enjoyed this game more than any of the toys I had lying around for her! By
the time we were done with cuddles and laps around the room, she was finally
dry but heading right back out for a trail walk to get all wet again!
Boris and Tasha started their morning off
outside with their favourite lady friends Isis and Sky. Once again Boris was
outnumbered and had to fend off three excited ladies who were all trying to get
his attention. Before Boris even had time to make his laps around the yard, he
was already wrestling with Sky who was pawing at him at the rock. This sent
Boris into a series of zoomies, and he whipped around the yard so fast that I
could hardly get a clear picture of him because he was already out of frame by
the time I snapped. Now Isis and Tasha were ready to play and took him up on
his challenge to chase him. Isis finally grew tired and joined her sister Sky
by the door but Tasha was relentless and tried everything in her power to try
and catch up to her silly son. I will never grow tired of watching these two
play together in the yard, they have an inseparable bond and always know how to
brighten anyone’s spirits with their usual silly antics! By the time it was
time to go back inside, both Boris and Tasha were huffing and puffing and ready
for a quick rest. Quick it was because next they were heading out with Charly
the Golden for an afternoon trail walk. It was a brisk walk along the trail
because they let their noses lead the way and there was so much to see and
smell from a long Winter's melt!
Chloe was buzzing like a bee today. She snatched up ball the
moment she got outside and then buzzed around the yard showing it off. She is
famous for her but wiggling as she motors around. Chloe weaved around all the
other dogs showing off her treasure. This caught the attention of Percy who
also is a big toy fan. He stayed on her tail trying to keep as close an eye on
the ball as possible. It was Chloe’s mistake to drop it at my feet asking to
play fetch, as when I launched it Percy caught a hold of it. Chloe was so
confused as to how another dog got “her” ball. She stayed close behind Percy
waiting for him to drop it. She was lucky that he got distracted by Spencer,
resulting in him dropping the ball. She quickly darted underneath him and
grabbed it. After this, she refused to drop it. She even brought it indoors and
into her kennel where she enjoyed sucking and gnawing on it.
Chloe saw the toys in my hand as I opened her kennel, and locked her
focus on the orange ball before we even made it into the playroom! I threw it
for her, sending the ball bouncing off the walls, with Chloe bouncing right
along after it. I tossed the light up frisbee next, and Chloe decided to carry
that one around for a while instead. I sat down on the bed and watched Chloe
run around the room, doing what she does best. She spotted me, though and ran
over to tackle me! Chloe covered my face with kisses and I gave her a good neck
scratch, getting her back leg kicking away!
Poppy is such a sweet lady. She was thrilled when I head into her kennel this morning with a clean, comfy cot in hand and fresh bedding. No matter what we provide her with she gets super excited to get comfy on it. She looked like the princess and the pea sitting on top of three folded blankets, on top of a raised cot. As she was curled up, her little tail was wagging and her ears were pinned back. I knew she wanted a cuddle, so I happily sat down with her for a moment to give her some love. Poppy, myself, Issy and Mocha enjoyed a nice trail walk later on. Poppy is always keen on sniffing everything along the path and under all the trees. The girls marched ahead of me, stopping as a trio to sniff the important smells before continuing. Poppy was a busy girl in the yard too. She loved meeting Duke the shepherd, who she flirted with for a while. She then head to the covered kennel where she could stay dry and hang out with daycare and walking friend, Mocha.
It is lovely to have Duke back with us for a sleepover. He
is always a joy to hang around. He was eager to get out in the yard and meet
some new friends. There were a couple familiar faces, as well as a handful of
new mates to introduce himself to. He spent a lot of time wandering around from
dog to dog saying his hellos. He is always very polite when introducing
himself, and allows all the dogs to get to know him too. He was especially fond
of Poppy, the Boston Terrier. These two were cute dancing in circles, and
wagging their tails. Duke offered her a couple kisses, which she gladly
accepted. Poppy wasn’t the only one getting wet kisses from Duke today. When I
tried cuddling him in the yard, he tilted his muzzle up and gave my face a nice
slurp. It was a warm welcome and I was happy to accept his love. We cuddled for
a bit longer before Duke carried on in the yard sniffing and exploring. Duke spent his extra attention time exploring around the playroom and sniffing out all of the new smells since the last time he was here. He gazed out the window, looked through the toy bin, and enjoyed some pets on the comfy couch. Duke was such a good boy and sat and laid down like a gentleman for some yummy treats, too.
Percy was very keen to walk with two pretty husky ladies,
Skie and Jynxx. Percy was quite the flirt with these girls. Rather than
wandering along the path with his nose to the ground like usual, he kept a
close eye on the girls. He tried to stick as close to their sides as possible,
constantly offering ear kisses. Whenever we paused to sniff, he would play bow
to either of them and dance around them. This continued for the entire walk,
keeping me very busy with the leashes. Percy was happy to be in the yard today
with some new friends. He kept busy with two labs, Spencer and Kona. He was
very fast motoring around with them, play fun games like chase and keep away.
When Percy spotted me lift a ball to play fetch with Chloe, he left his lab
friends to join in. Percy is always keen to snatch any toy he can, and he
succeeded in just that. When he beat Chloe to the ball, she was rather shocked.
She stayed hot on his heels as he zoomed around the yard with “her” treasure in
his mouth. Percy got distracted by Spencer, which resulted in him dropping the
ball providing Chloe with an opportunity to snatch it up. He wasn’t bothered at
all as he was quite content to carry on with Spencer as they sniffed the yard
as a team.
Issy and Mocha were very pleased to be reunited with their
beloved kitchen. Last week they were tortured into staying in a kennel both
days, which was just awful ;). They were so excited to get in their home this
morning and sniff around. Issy did a bout one hundred circles before settling
down, while Mocha found her favourite corner right away and went right back to
bed. The girls were excited to head out for their morning walk with myself and
Poppy. They danced their way down the hall waiting to be hooked up to their leashes
and head out the door. Mocha was very keen on sniffing everything this morning.
Resulting in a lot of breaks so that she could complete what her nose was
investigating. Issy was busy at the end of the leash ahead of me, asking to
please carry on walking. We walked fast, and took breaks, quite often, to
satisfy both their needs. In the yard Mocha was content staying protected from
the rain in the covered kennel. She hung out here for most of her outdoor time,
happy to have visitors. She met Poppy, Duke and Percy in the outdoor kennel who
all offered her nice company. Issy wasn’t bothered by the very light rain, and
spent her time sniffing around. She was happy to accept pets and cuddles from
myself and was also sure to check up on Mocha now and then.
Max and Sadie weren’t all that busy in the yard today. I
tried my hardest to get them going by racing in circles around the grass
portion of the yard. I think my antics were entertaining for the duo, as they just
stood their staring at me as if I were crazy. Finally, Max came after me with a
smile on his face. He looped around the yard very quickly and soon I was the
one chasing him. Sadie was standing on the picnic table throughout all of this,
probably judging us. Finally Max bolted towards Sadie and practically flew
across the picnic table launching her off the opposite end. This got a brief wrestling
match started. Their focus was quickly diverted from one another when Katie
came out in the other yard to fix a gate. Max was hooting and hollering at her
while Sadie danced around. When she returned indoors the pair happily made
their way to me looking for attention. I was more than happy to keep them
company on the picnic table giving them bundles of love. The dup always offers
me plenty of kisses and hugs. Sadie left us on the picnic table to hang out on
the rock. Max and I were happy to enjoy some one on one time before returning indoors
for a brief play in the playroom before nap time rolled around.
