Nymeria is always such a pleasure to be around, she just exudes fun-loving energy from every bone in her body and I was excited to spend the morning with her up front in the reception area for her extra attention session. There were lots of moving bodies up front, so that meant more company, but more importantly more hands free for head rubs! Once she got in her fair share of cuddles, she stuck her head right into the toy box to see what treasure she might find. She surfaced with a stuffed Teddy bear and shook it around in her mouth in true Husky nature. She spent the rest of her time rummaging through the toys and stretching her long legs out in contentment!
Bunker is such a sweetheart. He was so happy to see me this morning when I came to get him for a walk. With his tail wagging, Bunker trotted out of his kennel to say hello to his friend Oliver, and then the two boys headed to the yard. Once we were on the trail, Bunker immediately got to work exploring the grass. There was plenty of ground to cover and his nose must have been sniffing like crazy! He and Oliver followed each other around for most of the walk - if one of them stopped to smell something, the other would hurry over to see what it was, and then they would both continue on their way. Bunker picked up the pace a little during group time. He wandered outside and gave a friendly greeting to Andy and Oliver. Then Bunker went to see what Jynxx was doing, and she play-bowed, inviting him to chase her. Jynxx was twisting and leaping all over the place while she rocketed around the yard, and Bunker just happily followed after her. When she finally slowed down and Bunker caught up to her, he gave Jynxx a lick on the ear and then headed over to check out the fence. He snuggled with me for a bit and posed for a couple of pictures, and then Nyxx, Jynxx and Nymeria caught his attention. The huskies were chasing each other around the yard. Bunker decided to follow and cheer them on.
Since it was such a nice day outside I decided to take Bunker out front for his training, plus there are a lot of distraction for a busy nose. I started by getting his focus with a few "sit", "stay", "here's", once he seemed to be paying attention and enthusiastic about the rewards I had I sent him off to do some sniffing. It didn't take long for Bunker to stick his nose to ground on a mission. I called him to me, and with a few reminders he soon trotted over to me for his treat. We continued to do this moving around on the front grass letting him take me wherever his nose lead. After several more recall exercises we headed back inside for a rest.
Boris and Tasha were more than ready to start the day. They wasted no time racing out the door and could hardly wait as we walked through the yard to get to the trail. Boris practically flew over the big puddle by the gate - he seemed determined to keep his toes dry - while Tasha trotted right through the puddle without a care in the world. They both seemed to enjoy the nice weather and would occasionally stop to take a big whiff of the air. Boris was too excited to stay still for long and led the way for most of the walk, with Tasha following behind at a slower pace while she sniffed around. Later, they were joined by their husky friends Isis and Sky for group time. The four of them all bounded outside and quickly dispersed to check out the yard. Boris found a stuffed elephant and got all excited when I picked it up, though when I tossed it he simply looked the other way. What a silly guy! He decided to go and see what Sky was up to. She pretended to chomp on his nose while Boris bounced around, encouraging her. Occasionally Sky would swat at him with her feet, and Boris would leap away. At one point he bumped into Isis, who happily tackled him in response, and soon Tasha came running over to do the same. Once Tasha and Isis had finished wrestling with Boris, Tasha wandered off to sniff around the fence. She sat back to watch some birds in the field and enjoyed a nice scratch behind the ears. For the rest of group time, Tasha lounged around in the sun while Boris explored the yard.
Boris and Tasha had an evening training session today, and boy were they excited when I got to their kennel. I had them both wait patiently until I called each of them out. This took a few try but they quickly caught on to what I was asking. They raced up front to the playroom and they gave me a look as if to say, "what took you so long" when I joined them. We started out with some simple "sits" and "downs", to which we added "stay" and "here" to. I eventually worked my way up to asking them to sit and stay and calling each one individually, now if I called Tasha, Boris was expected to stay where he was until I called his name. Boris was much better at this game then his mama. After a few rounds of this we played my other game of who can sit first. I would get both of their attention with a treat and ask them both to sit. Boris was again the winner of this game. He just loves to please us. I thought I would challenge Boris and teach him to "give a paw". I tried it a couple times before I ran out of treats. I'm sure with a couple more tries he'll catch on pretty quickly, being the smart boy that he is.
Kai was thrilled to greet me bright and
early this morning with the biggest smile on her face as I approached her
kennel door for his first outing. She loves having free range of the yard and
even more so loves the one on one attention she gets when she is out there.
Next it was time for her first walk of the day out in the back trail and boy
was she excited! She had to get her rolls out of the way before trotting along
the trail, so down she went and rolled on her back in a pile of leaves in
excitement! Then we followed along the rest of the trail, it was such a
beautiful day and we definitely took our time to soak up the beautiful sun and
fresh breeze. A quick rest later and she was ready to head back out in the sun
to do it all over again.
Winston, our sweet and clever bulldog was
thrilled about the warm weather we had today and didn’t hesitate one bit to
head out the door this morning. Nanook and Kouza excitedly followed behind
along with the rest of the small dog clan for some fun in the sun. Winston
ventured out all the way into the far yard to find a warm comfy spot in the
grass where he had views of the fields and he happily closed his eyes and stuck
in tongue out as the rest of the pups ran circles around him. Kouza thought it
was a good idea as well to move out of the shade and into the far yard where
she could find some warmth in the sun. She used her nose to lead the way and
sauntered off until she found the perfect spot to sit beside Winston.
Meanwhile, Nanook didn’t have time to relax in the sun like the others, he was
too busy wrestling around with his favourite girl-pal Flora. It was hilarious
to watch them jump up and down off their hind legs and get super excited with
one another and they could have played all morning long!
Winston was excited to hang out in the reception with me for his extra attention. His friend Julie was there also, and there was plenty for him to do. First I gave them each a couple of treats, and then Winston sat down with me while I gave him a nice brush. Since it was so nice outside, I decided to take him for a short stroll also. Winston sniffed around in the grass a bit, although he was content just lazing around in the sun. He enjoyed the breeze while I gave him some cuddles - he was quite the happy dog!
