Jax had another wonderful day today. We began our morning on a special one on one walk together. Jax couldn’t have been happier this morning when I went to get him. He could’ve almost trampled me over as he was so excited to go outside. He must have known it was beautiful out today because he came trotting down the hallway and right out front as fast as he could. Once outside, it was time to explore. Jax set his nose to everything he passed, always interested in what he might find. After out short walk was over, it was time for some extra attention time. Today, I focused mostly on exploring, treats and of course getting Jax to play with a bright orange ball. First, I got Jax to do some excellent sits for a few liver treats. As soon as he saw me take out the treats, I had all his attention. I don’t think he knew quite what to do at first because he was so mesmerized by the yummy looking treats. Soon enough he snapped out of it and sat like a good boy. We did this a few more times before breaking for a small game of fetch. Well it wasn’t really a game of fetch, but it did include one of Jax’s favorite toys, a ball! Jax saw me pick the ball up out of one of our toy basket and came right to me side as soon as he could get there. He pawed at my leg to make sure I knew he wanted it and the game began. I would toss the play for him to follow, but instead of him picking it up and bringing it to me. Jax would simply stand over it and bark, as he usually does. It was always a challenge to try and get the ball back from him so we could start over, but he did allow me to take it a couple times. To end off his extra attention, Jax wanted to go exploring in the lounge. He took me straight there once we got outside and could hardly wait to smell everything inside! Jax did an overall sniff of the entire room before decided he wanted to lay down up on one of the couches. I wish I had brought the camera out with me because he looked adorable. We snuggled for a little while before going back inside. Jax was also excited to go outside for his long outdoor playgroup today. He was waiting at his kennel door and hopped out once I opened the door. Once he got outside, Jax preformed a huge stretch and gave a few sniffs into the air. Jax didn’t seem to make any fuss over the friends he had outside, but instead he went right over to the bright orange ball outside. Here, he did his typical barking routine but this time, he was good to let me pick the ball up and throw it. He is so silly some times and that’s why I love him. To end of his group time, Jax got an amazing head and back scratch.

Chloe C. spent some time without a ball in her mouth today for a change! She raced outside and immediately greeted most of the dogs in her group with a quick sniff. She seemed quite content running laps around was mesmerized by all the toys in the yard today. She kept so busy racing from toy to toy, trying to keep all of them in close sight. It seemed as though as soon a she found one she liked, she spotted a dog with a different one which she insisted she have too. Chloe C. did a lot of trading of toys with her friends. For the most part, her pals were happy to switch up a ball for a Frisbee or a rope toy for a bigger ball, except Nyxx. Nyxx had Chloe’s favourite Frisbee and Chloe insisted on getting it from him. Nyxx wanted more than anything to keep a tight grip on it as Chloe tried to snatch it. This resulted in one intense tug match. Both Chloe and Nyxx are both very strong and determined so they ended up pulling one another around the yard. When I showed them a ball, Nyxx let go and snatched the ball, leaving Chloe with the Frisbee, which she was very pleased about. Chloe then continued to race around the yard with the Frisbee in her mouth for the remainder of play group, keeping a close eye on all the fun and games going on around her. She continuously brought the ball or Frisbee, whichever she had at the time, to me so that I could throw it for her. Of course, she only wanted me to throw it for her, and wouldn’t actually let me take it in the first place.

Bruno always has a blast in his group. He is with a couple other playful dogs so he has a variety of friends to keep up with. As soon as we got outside I made sure to get a ball for everyone because Bruno likes to chase after the gang and constantly move. He would never really go after the ball, per say but more so just wanted to be part of the chase. I tried calling him over to pet him a bit but he was far too energetic and in “play mode” to wind down and be rubbed. Instead I picked up the Frisbee and tossed it and he zoomed after it, getting even more excited when the others started to join and they all went for it. I don’t think Bruno stopped moving for a second until the end of his group… although he did take a little break and sniffed the fence line for a bit but picked up right where he left off chasing around very soon after. Bruno became quite the cuddle bear at the end of his group time. Bruno would follow his friends but he would occasionally come over to my legs and completely pounce on me, wanting to be pet. It only took a couple times of him doing this before he stopped playing with the others completely and just solely wanted to be spoiled with love! I obviously did just that and was happy to see him loving the attention. Bruno was excellent to trot right back inside and snuggle up in his bed once it was time for his group to end.

When it came time for Louie and Iris’s outdoor play group the two of them just couldn't wait to go outside and start goofing around with their friends. Louie was the first one out of the kennel, as per usual. He jumped out as soon as I opened the door and raced outside, however he came bouncing back in because I hadn’t joined him quick enough. Iris was quick to jump up shortly after him and follow him out the door. Once they got outside, it was game on for Louie and Iris. The two of them wanted the exact same ball and both happened to lunge for it at the same time. This led to a bit of a standstill as both Iris and Louie held on tight to the ball in their mouths. It was a bit of a game of tug-of-war before Louie eventually got it from Iris. Boy did they ever look cute. Iris quieted down a bit as she sniffed around the yard, but she was always ready to play once again. She really enjoyed sniffing along the fence line. A few times, she’d join in on the playing that Louie was doing but she came to snuggle with me soon after. She was quite the snuggle bug at times. There were times where I’d have two big muddy paw prints on the chest of my rain jacket because she just couldn’t help herself but to jump up and give me a huge kiss on the cheek. I made sure she got plenty of snuggles. Louie was still very energetic, especially due to the weather outside. As soon as he got into the yard he started trying to play with anyone around him. He played with each dog in his group but eventually he realized that he already had the perfect play friend, Iris. Louie ensured that Iris raced around the yard with him after she was one sniffing. At various times the two of them were tackling each other so much that they were just rolling around on the ground, getting all covered in dirt! Right at the end of the group time, I got both Louie and Iris to jump up and catch the ball a few times. Louie wasn’t so great at the whole catching idea but he still tried his best! Overall, Iris and Louie had a lot of fun play tackling and chasing each other through all the puddles.

Boy did Poppy ever have an energetic and wonderful day first day! She was always go go going as fast as she could and always found something to do. When it came to her outdoor play group she had a variety of new and old friends to play with. However, she first needed to settle before I let her out. Poppy was playing a game of twinkle toes as she waited for me to come get her. She bounced all over the place with anticipation before I finally got her. Once I let her outside she was just ecstatic. Poppy raced out the door like a bullet and quickly met her friends in the yard. I had brought out a few toys from inside that she soon became obsessed with but didn’t actually play with. Poppy basically kept her eyes on the toys as much as she could. She was always watching me to see where the toys were and followed anyone who carried a toy in their mouth. However, anytime I brought a toy to her, Poppy would quickly sniff it and simply move on. I tried getting her to run after a few toys and she would, but once she got to the toy on the ground, all she would do is sniff it and then come back to me. I turned this into a little game today. Whenever I'd pick up a toy from the yard, I'd hide it underneath my jacket which drove her nuts! She'd race around the yard and would then somehow notice that I still had it. When she wasn’t watching the toys, Poppy enjoyed sniffing around the yard and especially each one of her friends. She also came over to me so that I could give her a long head and chin scratch.
