Kai had such a wonderful day with all of her friends. She started things off with a walk alongside Duke and Henry. Both of the boys set a quick pace and Kai happily trotted behind them, taking things a bit slower so that she could sniff everything. There were lots of interesting puddles for Kai to poke her nose in while she walked. Inside, Kai lounged around in the kitchen and enjoyed all of the attention she got from people going in and out. Next up it was time for groups, and Kai hurried down the hall to join her friends in the yard. She seemed quite eager to be outside and immediately got to work sniffing around near the fence. Kai bumped into a new friend, Colin, and the two of them gave each other a long sniff. Then Colin pounced on Kai and the two of them danced around for a bit. They were wandering around together when they suddenly heard dogs walking by in the field, and both of them leaped to attention. Not too long after we got outside, it started to pour rain! Kai headed towards me and snuggled up against my legs, avoiding the worst of the weather and enjoying a nice long cuddle instead. Luckily the rain lightened up soon and Kai went back to her adventure around the yard, joined by Colin and Poppy. When we headed inside, Kai gave herself a big shake and happily headed up to her warm and cozy kitchen. Kai had a great time during extra attention today. We took over the back playroom and started out our time with some special treats. Kai was very impressive with all of the tricks she knew. She even offered me both paws when asking to shake. After that I tried to get her to play with a green squeaky snake toy and although she was a little interested in the noises it made she did not want to play with it. Instead she lay down, rolled over and gave me her belly. Of course I knew what that meant. She spent about ten minutes in this position and seemed quite satisfied with the belly rubs she was getting. She went for a walk with two other dogs-named Duke and Henry this morning. Duke is very mellow just like Kai but Henry is just a puppy and full of energy. Kai was so gentle with him even though he would jump all over her. She was much more concerned with sniffing and couldn’t be bothered to play during her walk. After another group rotation Kai came inside and snuggled up on her bed for rest.
Poppy seemed to have extra pep in her step today. She could hardly wait to head outside for her walk this morning and happily said hello to the dogs that joined her. The trail must have smelled quite good today as Poppy was darting all over the place as she walked. After that exciting adventure, Poppy curled up in a tight little ball in her kennel to rest up for the rest of the day's activities. Soon it was group time and Poppy was bouncing around at the door, excited to meet up with her friends in the yard. She noticed some dogs walking past on the trail and watched them from the fence. She was very focused on them and when Justice crept up behind her, Poppy must have jumped a foot in the air! She smoothly recovered and trotted over to say hello to Justice. She wanted to play with him, although he kept teasing her by hopping away every time she tried to pounce on him. Eventually Poppy decided she would find a different playmate and headed over to see what Scout was up to. The two girls spent some time exploring one of the outdoor kennels while it rained, and once the rain had cleared up they headed out to sniff around the yard instead. Poppy noticed me taking pictures of some of the other dogs and, not wanting to be left out, hurried over to pose for the camera and get some cuddles of her own. Poppy enjoyed a nice back scratch before she went to bounce around with Scout.
Colin started his day off on the right foot, taking a walk with his friends Molly and Sophie. I could tell from the look on his face that he was very happy to be outside, enjoying some fresh air and exploring the trail with the two girls. While the other two plowed ahead and splashed through all of the puddles, Colin took his time sniffing each clump of grass. A few times, Molly would run over to him as if to say "hurry up!" and Colin would race after her until something else caught his eye. After that, Colin met up with some new dogs for his group today. He was eager to meet everyone and hit it off right away with Kai and Magic. The three of them explored the yard in each other's company. Colin must have gotten a bit wound up as he suddenly trotted over to Kai and pounced on her. She quickly pounced back and the two of them hopped around on their back feet until they lost their balance. Kai wandered off to continue sniffing the yard, although Colin decided he wanted to cuddle instead. He slyly snuck up behind me and started poking around my pockets with his nose. Colin gets such a cute little smile on his face when you pet him. He is certainly a happy guy! We snuggled for a bit and Colin checked out the camera, before he figured it was time to move on and socialize with a few of his new friend. He spent the rest of his group time with Poppy and Kai.
Bruno, as always, was a buzzing bundle of energy today. He was eager to start things off and couldn't wait to get outside for his walk. Bruno could hardly sit still long enough for me to put the leash on! Once everybody was ready to go, he lead the way out the door and raced towards the trail. There was plenty for him to explore and he looked quite silly leaping over all of the puddles. When it was time for groups, Bruno brought his happy mood into the yard and started running around to say hello to everybody. His friend Pelley was exploring in the grass, so he decided to keep her company for a bit. Then Bruno hopped towards me in search of some attention. He always gets so excited when he's cuddling and his back-end wiggles like crazy! Once Bruno was satisfied with his back-scratching, I went over to the Jollyball and started pushing it around to encourage him to play. He ran over and barked excitedly, although I think he had more fun watching me than he did playing with the ball. After that, Bruno trotted over to spend some time with the other dogs in his group. He took a liking to Lola and the two of them wandered around together until we headed inside.
For his extra attention, Bruno and I made our way to the playroom. The first toy he saw was a stuffed bear and Bruno wasted no time snatching it up. He carried it around to show off and then laid down to chew on it. We also played tug-of-war for a bit, and then I gave him a toy that was better suited to chewing. He seemed hooked on the stuffy, however, so we soon returned to playing fetch with that. Then Bruno flopped over on the ground and rolled onto his back for a belly-rub.
Pelley was in such a great mood today! She was so excited to see all of her friends and when it was time for her walk this morning, she happily bounced out the door once I put her leash. Pelley said hello to the two dogs joining her for the walk and then they all headed towards the gate. The trail smelled quite interesting from all of the other dogs that had passed through and Pelley was zigzagging all over the place as she attempted to sniff all of it. While her two friends did their best to avoid the puddles, Pelley didn't seem to mind and actually had a great time splashing around. Next up, it was group time. She was the first one outside and wagged her tail at each dog that followed her out the door. Then Pelley trotted off to check out the yard. She bumped into Bruno and the two of them gave each other a thorough sniff before the pair decided that they would make great exploring buddies. They headed out side by side and spent a while nosing around in the grass. Pelley made sure to stop by and say hello to me also. She posed for the camera, and then enjoyed a nice scratch behind the ears. Pelley moved around so that each spot on her back received a good pat. She licked my fingers in thanks and then wandered off again to join up with Bruno once more. After the wet and rainy afternoon Pelley had outside, although I don't think she minds one bit, we spent some time together up front drying off and cuddling. She explored the reception area while I searched through the toy bin. I found a fun bouncy blue ball that she got excited about when I bounced it towards her. Pelley bounced after the ball, gave it a sniff and trotted back to me. I grabbed the ball again and she did the same thing. Pelley then climbed up into my lap and gave me a bunch of kisses. She is such a sweet girl. We tried playing with a few other toys, but she was much more interested in ear rubs and chin scratches.
Keegan is quite the sweetheart and always a delight to have staying with us! He was very excited to start the day, and took the lead on his walk this morning, while his two friends happily trotted behind him. He seemed to be on a mission and would trot straight down the trail with his nose in the grass, before suddenly coming to a halt and sniffing around when something caught his attention. When we got back, Keegan snuggled up in his kennel for a quick nap before groups. It didn't take long for him to hop to his feet once he saw that his friends were heading outside, and Keegan wasted no time hurrying after them. Out in the yard, Keegan said hello to each dog, spending longer with his lady friend Pearl. He then decided to check things out and wandered over to the grass, where there were lots of interesting smells to investigate. Keegan was quite busy exploring and only stopped when he noticed me taking pictures. Of course he then had to trot over and snuggle up with me. He certainly loves his attention. Keegan was happy to cuddle for a while and then he went back to sniffing around, this time in the company of Pelley and Bruno. Once each inch of the yard had been thoroughly explored, Keegan went to socialize with some of his friends by the door. Keegan is such a cutie and he jumped right into my arms when I opened his door to take him out for his extra attention. We settled into the playroom and Keegan went adventuring to check out some of the cool smells that were lingering from previous dogs who had been in there. He found some toys that he thought were interesting and picked them up to show me, but today all he really wanted to do was cuddle. He stood beside me while I gave him some ear and head scratches then jumped onto my lap so I could give him some belly rubs and cuddles. He turned around at one point to look at me and licked my cheek happily. I gave him a hug before picking him up and patting his head on the way back to his kennel where he could take a nap before group time.
Henry was extremely excited to go outside
today, as usual. He leaped out of his
kennel when we went for our morning walk, happy to share the adventure with his
two friends Kai and Duke. Kai and Duke
are a little more mellow than Henry but don’t mind if he jumps on them or asks
them to play. During our group rotations
Henry got to burn off some of his ever-lasting energy with a dog-named
Achilles. The two were quite the pair
bounding through the yards and splashing in the puddles. Henry made sure that each time he went
through the puddle he came over to jump on me and give kisses to let me know
how thankful he was to be outside. He is
such a silly dog! He was slightly
interested in playing with the ball today.
His favourite part was chasing another dog that had gotten to it
first. Henry has gotten so much better
at coming inside when he is called! He
even walks right into his kennel with no problem; that can be hard for a puppy! I interrupted an afternoon nap when I brought
him his lunch but he let out one big stretch and began to chow down.
Nymeria is such a sweet dog! Normally she enjoys running through the yards
and playing with the other dogs but today she was much more relaxed. Her main focus was getting some special
attention and pets. This meant she was
never more than a few feet away from me mainly sitting right on my shoes! I was more than happy to give her the
attention she wanted. I tried to get her
to play fetch outside and she was very interested in chasing the ball, it was
just the bringing it back part she wasn’t too keen on. Nymeria did hang around with a Golden
Retriever named Sophie for a while. The
two would sit on either side of me both getting pet with one hand. Nymeria did manage to sneak in a few kisses
if I ever bent down or wasn’t paying close enough attention to her. It was sort of her way of reminding me she
still needed to be pet. Nymeria was eager to head to the playroom for her extra
attention today. She bounced into the room and started racing around to
explore the new space. The first spot she checked out was the table and
toy bin. When I set the bin down, Nymeria poked her head inside and
pulled out a tennis ball. She was so excited that she started throwing
the ball in the air and leaping all over the place with it. When I
managed to sneak it from her, we played catch and Nymeria was flying
around like crazy, trying to grab it before it hit the ground. For the
last few minutes, her friend Megan came to play and cuddle with her as
well.
Sophie is such a joy to be around. She is always so excited whenever she sees
someone coming to open her kennel door.
She never strays to far away from me when we are outside. She really enjoys getting some extra
attention. Today she was particularly
set on sitting on my shoes to let me know how important it was that I pet
her. I didn’t mind of course. Her and another dog Nymeria would sit on
either side of me both getting pet with one hand. I crouched down a few times and she was sure
to surprise me with some kisses. She did
play a little bit with another Golden Retriever named Henry. He is still just a puppy and has a lot of
energy. Sophie was fine to let him jump
all over her for a little while but quickly came back to her spot beside
me.
Duke had a huge play session outside! Duke met a husky named Vega. She is still just a puppy but that didn’t
stop her from jumping all over Duke.
Even though he is much bigger than her he was able to be so gentle. Duke would hardly jump on Vega and would
mostly use one paw to play with. Vega
loved it when he would chase her around the yard. The two played outside the entire time. I had to beg both of them to come back
inside. Once I finally managed to get
him back to his kennel he immediately laid down on his bed for some much
deserved rest. It can be very tiring
keeping up with a puppy. Duke couldn’t wait for his extra attention
this morning and ran out the kennel door before I could even open it all the
way. I put a leash on him and off we went towards the front for some outdoor
time. He smelled everything he could see while we were on our walk and every now
and then he would come back to make sure I was still there and to get a head
scratch. He splashed around in some of the puddles on our walk before running
back to check out some cool smells he’d found. After our walk was done we came
back inside for some cuddle time, which he was really excited about. I sat down
on the floor and he came over and sat right next to me making sure that he
didn’t miss out on any cuddle opportunity. He had such a wonderful time during
his extra attention getting lots of cuddles and an extra walk where he got to
explore some more.
For Kahl’s group time today I decided to
take him out for a second walk. He
really enjoyed sniffing all the new smells.
We went off the trail we regularly used and explored the property. Of course as soon as we got out there it
began to rain but Kahl wasn’t bothered in the least. We ran through a few puddles and took some
breaks for pets as well. He enjoyed the
small breaks we took. He would come sit
right in front of me and got all the attention he could. Since it was raining outside I was only able
to take a few pictures for fear of the camera getting wet. We went back inside into the playroom so we
could take some better photos. I offered
him some liver treats but he was not interested. After we had finished up in the playroom I
took him back to his kennel where he went directly to his bed for a nap.
