Kouza was such a sweet girl outside today. She went slowly out the door and sniffed around her friends. Making her way over the grass, she found an interesting smelling spot and pondered it for a while. I went over to her to pet her back and she quickly turned around to face me. I pet her head gently and she sniffed my hand. I started rubbing her ears, which is her favorite thing. She was leaning into my hand while I rubbed her ears and then when I began to take my hand away, she started gently giving me kisses. I sat down and continued to pet her head. She loved the sunny weather today so she was content to spend the rest of her time outside with me in the sun. Later on in the afternoon, Kouza got to spend time with both Leah and myself, and Leah gave Kouza more cuddles. Kouza got her cuddles and when it was time to head inside, she let us know that she wasn't quite ready. I walked inside with her slowly, stopping a few times to sniff a few things in the yard. Kouza settled into her bed for a long nap before her next outing. I love getting to spend extra time with Kouza. It took her a few minutes to get her bearings of the reception area again, but quickly had it figured out. I tried a few toys with her but she wasn't in a toy mood today, so instead we cuddled. Kouza wiggled her bum from side to side as I gave her a good hip massage. She thanked me many kisses on my hands and face. She didn't wan't the cuddles to stop so she climbed right into my lap and stood in front of me making sure all my attention was on her.
Today Winston was on the move the whole time he was outside. When his group was outside, Winston walked along the side of the building. He sniffed the grass in the corner of the yard and then moved over to the gravel. Winston found a nice sunny spot there and sat his bottom down to relax. I joined him and we sat there together. Winston kept sniffing my sweater and nudging he for some pets. I pet his head and gave him a good all-body massage. He was very happy with all the attention he was getting. I got up to say hello to the other dogs and Winston slowly followed me. He got a bit jealous when I was petting Flora so I sat down with Winston again, this time in the grass. he sat down right on my legs and I just pet his back continuously. When it was time to go in, Winston was the first one to nudge the door open with his nose. He went for a little stroll down the hallway and then moseyed on back to his kennel for a little nap. Winston was ready for his extra attention when I opened his kennel door. He trotted right up to the reception area with me and had a good sniff around. I got out his favourite brush and convinced him to settle down on the bed beside me. He enjoyed his brush and some cuddles along with some treats too, of course! Near the end of his extra attention Winston wanted to spend some time exploring and insisted on going outside. Lucky for him it was his turn to go out with his group so we headed back so he could spend some time in the sun with his friends.
Nanook was a little explorer in the yard today. He started off in the gravel yard where the rest of the dogs were. The grass is starting to grow everywhere again and Nanook was rolling in the nice green grass in the corner. Afterwards he moved to the farther yard where he sniffed around the fence and the rocks. He spotted Leah walking two doggies on the other side of the fence and he sat there, very content on watching them walk. He sat with the breeze in his face while I gave him a back scratch. He sun-bathed in his spot for a little longer. When I checked back with him he was flirting with Flora in the grass. Flora and Nanook jumped around with each other for a few minutes. Each time Flora bent down to play, Nanook would jump at her and then scoot away from her, waiting for her to follow him. They did this a couple more times before they went their separate ways in the yard. In the afternoon, Nanook and I spent some extra time together inside. We started off with a couple treats in the treat puzzle. Nanook is so good with turning the middle part to get the treats out. He paws at it until it spins, and then puts his little nose in to get the treats as fast as he can. Once all the treats were gone, he sniffed it for a good couple of minutes to make sure it was all empty. Next we cuddled, and I have Nanook a little back massage, and rubbed the top of his ears. He had his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth with a big smile on his face. Before heading back to his kennel, he gave me his paws in my hand and was rewarded with a little treat or two.
Finnigan was so fun to have in the yard today! At first he was happy to see Nyxx and Jynxx, the Husky duo. He followed Jynxx around the yard, sniffing her and trying to get her to play. Jynxx was very popular in the group today so Finn didn't get to play with her much. He took an interest in one of the plastic frisbee in the yard and carried it around. Finn made best friends with Andy, one of the boarding dogs. Finn carried the frisbee around in his mouth and wouldn't let me take it. I chased him around the two yards and when he stopped to bark at me, he dropped it right on my feet, so I threw it so that he could chase after it. Finn was happy to head inside, and surprisingly followed his friends right into the hallway today. In his later outing, Leah and I were both outside with Finn and Leah cuddled Finn so much. She sat on the stool and picked him up and he sat in her lap, cradled in her arms while she rubbed his belly. He's such a handsome little guy.
Boris was feeling rather frisky outdoors today. He was such a flirt with miss Kyah. Boris actually played the submissive role to Kyah today, which I don't often see from him. He was rolling onto his back exposing his belly to her, showing her that he was harmless. She continued to stick her nose up to him, acting as though she was too cool. Finally, she gave in and the duo set off for some tunnel fun. All the action was fun for Tasha to watch and of course she had to get in on the games too. Tasha enjoyed looping around after Boris as he was setting off after Kyah. She got very serious and began putting him in his place as he galloped around like a young hooligan. Finally, she took a break and sat on the picnic table, enjoying the warmth. Before it was time to head indoors, the pair teamed up on Merida for some fun around the door. She was pretty frisky in return and ended up flirting a lot with Boris. For their training session we did a little bit of everything again. Firstly we worked on our patience with doorways, this took awhile for both Boris and Tasha to calm down and wait, rather than bolt through the door as soon as I opened it. Once they settled down and waited I released them and the shot off like rockets to the front playroom. They were practically bouncing off the walls with energy. I gave them the treat puzzle to get their brains working and focused. While Tasha was finishing with the puzzle Boris joined me for some sits and downs. I also continued his "give a paw" training, keeping it short and sweet. I then asked them to sit and stay on opposite sides of the room, now this was a challenge. There was a lot of back and forth asking one to sit while the other would pop up and come over to see what the other was doing. After a few tries they got the idea and sat patiently until I called them. Since they were both buzzing with energy we played around with the pink pig ball that Boris loves so much. I kicked it around the room bouncing off the walls with Boris bouncing along behind it. Tasha was happy to watch the excitement and hop in on the fun once in awhile.
Kai was happy to see me when I first saw her this morning. We enjoyed a nice walk along the back trail as well as another walk along the front trail. Kai really enjoys the change in scenery, as it provides her with lots to sniff and explore. Of course she got a good roll in too, in the dry brush. After endless wiggling around she perked back up and carried on for her walk. I sat down in the field at a very dry part and gave Kai some nice cuddles. It was so warm and sunny today, she really enjoyed the company in the warm rays. She is enjoying all the one on one human attention that she is getting, despite feeling a little under the weather. This afternoon I took Kai for yet another walk for her extra attention, although I think Kai wanted to do something different. When we reached the trail she grabbed onto the leash in her mouth and started bouncing around, asking me to play with her. We jogged around through the field together enjoying our time together. She is definitely feeling much better today. After some more time goofing around Kai settled down in the long grass to relax. We hung out for a little while before heading back inside to rest.
