Saturday April 22nd, 2017

Kai was so lovely today. She's done an excellent job of keeping herself entertained throughout all of her outings. This morning when I went to grab her, Kai was all snuggled up in her kennel but she was still excited to wake up and come see me outside. We were out for a short while this morning so Kai and I didn't go far into the back trails. However later on when we went out for her longer outings, Kai got the chance to explore as far as she wanted to. During her longest outing, Kai and I went around the back trail to see what was in store for us. As soon as I got Kai outside, she was at the end of her leash, waiting for me to catch up to her. As we walked through the back, Kai kept her nose on the ground for the most part but she stopped occasionally to roll around. Kai looked so happy every single time that she was laying down in the long grass. She had the habit of going as close to the running water as possible. I think she wanted to jump right in and start swimming. Kai and I stayed outside for a little while but she was happy when it was time for her to come back inside and get snuggled up once again. Instead if going for a walk, I let Kai rest during her extra attention time. Instead I went into her kennel and laid with her for awhile. She loved getting her belly rubbed and could've let me do it for the entire day.

Nanook had an excellent day with all of his friends! He started things off with a walk alongside his buddy, Sam. The two boys were eager to get outside and Nanook happily led the way trotting down the trail. He was weaving all over the place and trying to sniff each clump of grass that they wandered past. There were a few puddles here and there, and Nanook was hopping over them like he had springs in his feet. Later on, it was time for groups. He raced out the door and got to work exploring the yard. Lots of dogs had been going through on their walks and there was plenty of interesting scents for him to check out. While Nanook was busy sniffing away, some of the dogs had gathered around me for cuddles. As soon as Nanook noticed this, he came flying over, refusing to be left out, and bounced right into the middle of everyone. He spent some time snuggling with me and posed for a few pictures. Then Nanook bumped into Sam again and the two of them trotted off to play. Nanook got wound up playing with Sam and suddenly went racing across the yard. This caught the attention of Timbits, Coco and Flora, who all hurried over to chase him around. He certainly enjoyed himself in the yard today! For Nanook's extra attention time, he showed off his cute tricks to me for some little treats. He spent some time with Susan and I in the reception area, and Nanook showed us his favorite trick "paw". It was so cute when he would lift up both paws and place them both in my hand, with his eyes fixated on the treat in my hand. We snuggled for a while in between him showing us his fancy moves. Nanook got a really good bum scratch and we even sat on the chair together for a while. Nanook sat on my lap and watched the door for visitors while I pet his head and rubbed his ears. He was so content to hangout with us in the front area, that he had to be persuaded with a treat to head back to his kennel!

Winston is such a cutie. He met up with Kouza and I for a short walk down the driveway this morning. Winston happily led the way out the door and headed straight for the grass, where he slowed down to sniff around. He and Kouza happily ambled along while they checked things out. After that, Winston joined me in the playroom for his extra attention. I laid out a thick comforter for him and Winston quickly sat down on it, while I got to work giving him a brush. There was white fur floating everywhere and Winston couldn't have looked happier! I took his collar off to reach his neck and Winston found that a scratch behind the ears felt very nice. We snuggled for a bit more and then headed back to his kennel as it was almost time for groups. Outside in the yard, Winston wandered around to say hello to the dogs. He gave Kouza a friendly sniff and then greeted Flora and Nanook before making his way over to see what Julie was up to. She was lounging around at the door, so Winston decided to join her. I started to pet them both and Winston soon sat down, enjoying the attention. He posed for a few pictures and then headed off to check out the stuffed toy that Nanook had found. Winston sniffed around the yard for a bit longer before returning to his post at the door with Julie.

Kouza got off on the right foot today, taking a short stroll with her friend Winston. The two of them moseyed down the driveway and took their time exploring. Kouza could hear other dogs being walked in the distance and kept tilting her head to listen. She then picked up an interesting smell in the grass and followed her nose along for a little while. Kouza started groups in a similar way by tracking a scent across the yard. It was quite cloudy today so unfortunately there wasn't much sun for her to bask in, although Kouza didn't seem to mind and instead was happy to cuddle with me. First she had to check out my hand and gave each of my fingers a good sniff. Kouza then licked my hand a few times before she was satisfied and let me pet her. I found a nice spot right behind her ear and Kouza happily leaned against my hand while I gave her a scratch. After Kouza was finished getting her attention from me, she decided to see what the other dogs were up to. Wandering across the yard, Kouza found Flora and gave her a polite hello before moving along to see who else she would meet. Eventually Kouza made her round and ended up beside me again, looking for more snuggles.

What a wonderful and energetic day for Bunker. He was always ready to get going at any point of the day and never slowed down. Bunker was also quite the cuddle bug when he wanted to be. During his long play group, Bunker was ecstatic to see all of his friends and came trotting out of his kennel right into the gravel yard. Bunker made sure to greet each and every dog that he passed and went out of his way to pass all of them. When he sniffed Nyxx, the two boys halted for a moment. Their tails and ears went up and Nyxx pounced playfully at Bunker. I don't think Bunker quite knew what to do with himself but he enjoyed the company. Bunker bounced back at Nyxx and the two of them shy-fully played with each other for a little while. Eventually, Bunker decided it was time for a cuddle. He immediately stopped playing with Nyxx and looked right over at me. Soon enough he was sitting by my side, loving all of the attention, I gave Bunker a head rub to start, then a belly and back scratch, and finally a little chin scratch as well. I could tell he was loving it because Bunker gave me a little kiss on the cheek every so often. To end of his group time, Bunker decided to venture into the yard and see his friends once again. He really enjoyed the company of his friend Andy. The two of them wandered around the yard until it was time to go inside. Bunker did an excellent job throughout his recall training today. He looked so excited to come out front with me when I got him from his kennel. I put him on the extra long leash outside and let him wander to the end of the leash before calling him back. Almost every time he came back right away! There was only one or two times that I had to call him again because he was paying all of his attention to a certain smell in the field. However, other than that, Bunker did an amazing job. I made sure to give me a treat every time he came back so he was definitely excited to return to me.

Boris and Tasha had a blast throughout the entire day today! They were both so eager to greet me this morning when I first let them out that Boris nearly knocked me over while giving me as many kisses as he could. The two of them were super excited for their walk this morning and just couldn't wait to explore the trail. Every day there seems to be new smells on the trail for Boris to follow. As soon as we got outside he had his nose stuck right to the ground in search of something. I think Tasha found it a bit silly because she would go over to join him but quickly decide to come back and see me. Every time Tasha came back, she made a point of rubbing her head against my hand before racing to the end of her leash. Sometimes, when Tasha would run to the end of her leash, it would be enough to distract Boris from his sniffing and he'd decide to chase after her. This led to a few sprints throughout our walk which definitely kept things interesting. When it came to one of their long outdoor play group, Tasha and Boris were both excited to see that they had the entire yard to themselves. As soon as they got outside, Boris started doing laps around the yard running at full tilt. He raced around the yard many times and every time he passed Tasha, Boris tried to nudge her to join him. Instead of running along side him, Tasha stayed stationary in the middle of the yard and would jump at Boris as he ran by. Even though Boris saw it coming, he seemed surprised every time it happened and would frantically try to dodge Tasha. After they were done playing their little game. Tasha and Boris got caught up in a full blown play tackle. The two of them took turns bouncing on top of one another until I brought a little stuff out for them to play with. Boris somehow saw the stuff in my hand and immediately raced towards me. He ended off his group time with the toy in his mouth and Tasha did her best to take it away from him. Once she did, another race ensued. Tasha was very focused today while we were training. We started off with some basics in the playroom, just us gals. At first she inspected all my pockets for treats, and when she found none, she was very attentive, wondering when she would get her treats. This made it easy for her to focus. I got her to sit down and lie down a few times and each time she dropped right to the floor to lie down. I praised her with lots of cuddles and a back scratch which she loved. After doing this for some time, we went outside to work on our leash work. Not much was outside to distract her so Tasha walked pleasantly beside me, only pulling on the short leash a few times. Boris and I went walking as well, and with his pinch collar on, he was a little angel on the leash, with some reminders here and there to walk beside me. In the playroom, Boris and I worked on some simple commands. He is very good at sitting and waiting patiently for me to release him from his sit. He had some trouble today staying focused, so we eventually worked on some recall. After a few tries, he got the idea of what he was suppose to do and became a natural, still needing some work on our distractions though!

Nymeria's loving the idea that she doesn't have to say goodbye to her friends at the end of the day, because she'll see them the next morning! She was extra spunky today when I first saw her. She jumped up onto to her back legs and rested her front paws on my chest to easily say good morning to me. Then we quickly trotted outside to see the rest of her group. Nymeria just couldn't wait and led the way outside. As soon as she was out, she showed her excitement by bouncing towards almost all of them. Her favorite friend to begin with was our husky Vega. The two girls ran off into a full on chase around the yard. It was usually Vega that was chasing Nymeria, but Nymeria took her turn chasing Vega as well. Once they stopped running for a little while, Nymeria decided it was time to play with the bones outside. She had a variety of options in the yard but picked up a certain one and loved it. Nymeria was throwing the bone up in the air, trying to catch it herself but this led to little Vega getting it from her. After Vega got it, another race began between the two until Vega reluctantly gave the bone back. Nymeria decided she was done chewing on the bone a little while later and came over to snuggle beside me for the remainder of her group time. She was so very excited when it was time for her to come up for her extra attention time this afternoon. Nymeria raced right passed me and up to the front reception before I could even close the door behind us. She immediately saw Alyssa sitting at the front desk and decided she simply had to jump her front paws onto her alp and give her a big kiss. Alyssa snuggled with her for a little while until I had come into the room with treats. Nymeria ran right to my side and tried to show me every trick she knew in order to get a treat. However, what she didn't know was that I was setting the puppy puzzle up for her to play with. After putting a few treats in, I placed the puzzle on the floor for Nymeria to search through. She did an excellent job of sniffing every treat out up until the very last crumb. Once she had gotten all of the treats, Nymeria and I spent the rest of our time outside splashing in the water. I put her on the long leash out front and her nose went nuts. When she wasn't in the puddles, she was sniffing away at all the different smells in the front yard.
