Kouza had a lovely time exploring the yard today. After I took her cone off, she greeted me with lots of kisses. I watched to make sure she didn't need it on for a little while, but she seemed quite distracted by all the smells and activity. She greeted me warmly with lots of kisses, then followed the scent of the other dogs across the gravel to the grassy yard. After she'd sniffed for awhile, I called her over to me to get some more love. Kouza would put her head between my legs while I scratched her back. She loved the attention and gave me so many kisses before the other dogs ran up to join in. She wasn't interested in staying too close when the others were jostling for my attention, and she wandered off to explore her favorite big boulder in the yard.
The exploring continued when we had some special one-on-one time later in the day. Kouza had to check out every corner of the reception area before she trotted over to me and gave me even more kisses. I felt very special! She sat on the chair with me; somehow she knew how to jump up on it, but I made sure to keep her safe while we cuddled and guided her back down when it was time to go back to her kennel.
Nanook didn't take long to remember me, although he played a little strange at the beginning of the day. It's been awhile since we've seen each other, but once we were in the yard and he was busy with his friends, he was completely comfortable with me. After running around the yard and making sure there wasn't anything madly interesting to smell since his last outing, Nanook was ready to play. He watched the others for a few minutes, letting out a few barks of encouragement. After watching for awhile, Nanook ran straight to his best friend, Jake, and the two took off running together before they both stopped and jumped on each other to wrestle. They had quite the cute style of play, which included lots of running, eluding and play bowing, a break to explore and then more playing
Nanook was very excited as usual about his special attention time and he let everyone know it as he ran up to the reception area, barking enthusiastically. He was enjoying some wonderful time being the centre of attention when a man came in to ask a question. Well, Nanook decided that he was going to be a super-watchdog and he barked at the man until he left and then kept a narrowed eye on the door for a few minutes, making sure he wasn't coming back. He finally came over to me for some pets and I distracted him with some treats until he relaxed and got up onto his favorite chair, where he sat like a little white king.
Kai was feeling her absolute best today and showed it
by being her utmost playful self. I couldn’t believe how playful she was in her
outdoor play groups today. Kai has been spending a lot of time with her new
best friends Justice and Andy. Whether it be walks or groups, Kai’s always by
one of their sides, so cute. This morning, she went on an excellent walk with
Andy. However, this meant that she couldn’t wait to see her other friend
Justice when it came time for their playgroup. Kai bounced down the hallway and
as soon as she got outside, she spotted Justice. Soon enough she was by his
side, waiting for him to pay attention to her. After a second, Justice decided
it was time to play so he pounced playfully towards her. This move started a
race around the yard while the two of them sprinted at full speed to try to
catch each another. Kai was so funny because she would run very fast but
occasionally she wouldn't watch where she was going and would stumble, but quickly turn it into a pounce. It
usually worked and she could sometimes tackle Justice with her moves. Later on,
Kai was very happy to spend some more time with Andy. Luckily for her, he was
feeling just as playful. Kai was happy to start racing around the yards again.
This time, she would stop occasionally to play tackle and play bow with Andy.
After a few more laps, Kai was ready to cool down. Her way to do this was to
dig up as much cool dirt as she could and then roll around it in. I hadn’t been
watching her for a minute and she had already dug a fair size hole once I
turned back to her. Once I called her, Kai immediately jumped onto the hole and
laid down as if she had never been digging and hoped that I wouldn’t see it.
Silly girl. Kai kept the energy up for her extra attention. Like yesterday, I
started her time with me outside. Kai loves getting to roam around the big open
field so I figure there’s no point in staying inside on such a beautiful day. I
think Kai agreed with me and was always showing me an award-winning smile as we
were frolicking in the field. After a few more minutes of exploring, the two of
us sat up on a hill and cuddled until it was time to go inside. I
made sure she got everything from a head scratch to a belly rub and she was
content with that.
Oreo showed me how crazy she is with toys today in
her long outdoor playgroup. Once we got outside, Oreo was a little bit
preoccupied with her friends in the group. She went around her group of friends
at least four times. Each time she sniffed her friends all over before moving
onto the next one. However, once I called her and she saw the bright orange
ball in my hand, Oreo perked her head up and came running over. I have never seen
her so excited than when she saw the ball. Eager to play with it, Oreo jumped
up and completely swiped it out of my hand because I wasn’t expecting it. She
didn’t seem to care that she had taken it she was so happy with her new toy. Oreo ran a few laps and went up to the same friends with the ball in her
mouth. I think she might have been showing off her prized possession. Oreo then
played a little game with me called “No take, only throw” with the ball. She
would run up to me and stand at my feet until I bent down to grab the ball and
then she would dart off in another direction so that I couldn’t grab it, silly
girl. Eventually she let me begin a game of fetch with her and it lasted for
the next little while. Once of the times that Oreo caught the ball, instead of
bringing it back, she brought it into the opening of the play structure. From
then on, the play structure was her castle and it was evident that she was the
queen. Oreo circled around inside the play structure. She made sure that not a
single friend could come in and steal her toy. Oreo even stuck her head through
the holes of the play structure in order to speak to her friends as they passed
by.
Reese was full of beans today. He was so energetic
throughout the day but especially during his walk. I hooked
Reese up to his leash and he was ready to go go go! I barely had his leash on
by the time he was out of his kennel and into the hallway. The next thing I
knew, Reese was barreling down the hallway with a few of his friends, ready to
explore. Once outside, Reese didn’t slow down. He kept me on my toes
by always being at the end of his leash as there seemed to always be something
to smell. This continued for his entire walk but he had slightly slowed down
towards the end of it. I though he might need a nap but he was wide awake later
on in the day when it was time for his long outdoor play group. Reese bounced
out of his kennel with the exact same excitement. Today he began his play time
with the younger dogs in his group. He especially liked it when they slowed down a bit and started play
bowing and tackling one another instead of running as much. Reese couldn’t have
been more excitement to continue to play with them until I brought him a bright orange ball. Reese’s ears perked up and his eyes
were dead set on the ball I was holding. It took him all of two seconds before
he had reached my side and was ready to play with the ball. We started off with
a quick game of tug-of-war but Reese soon decided he wanted to play fetch. No
matter where I threw the ball, Reese could keep his eyes on it and find it to
bring it back. After a long bit of playing, we quieted down with some cuddles
to end off his group time.
Reese is always so excited to spend some time with us one-on-one. I thought we would spend some time together inside, but Susan had some training treats at the desk and Reese just couldn't concentrate on anything else, so I decided to go outside with him. We took a nice walk around the front; Reese especially liked wandering off the driveway to sniff along the edges. Every so often I'd ask him to stop and sit and give him some of his special treats. That was his favorite part of the walk for sure! Out by the berm, Reese seemed to settle down and just put his nose to the air, enjoying the wind on his face. We cuddled for awhile before heading back inside.
Max and Sadie love coming in for daycare on the
weekends because there are so many other staff for them to meet that don’t
usually work on week days. This meant that the two of them were quite excited
to greet me when I first saw them in time for their morning walk. Max couldn’t
contain his excitement and was bouncing around their kennel. Sadie took a bit of
a different approach and sat with her head pressed up against their kennel
door. Almost trying to push the door open when she saw me. The exact same thing
occurred when it was time to go outside for their long outdoor play group. Max
nearly barreled me down with hugs and kisses before making it to the door.
After giving me kisses all over my cheeks, Max was ready to go out and play
with Sadie. Sadie left her kisses for when I got outside. I sat up on the
picnic table and once I turned to my right, Sadie was waiting right beside me
for some attention. The two of them were quite goofy and cute today. At first,
they were more focused on the yard and all the spring smells than they were
each other. Max had his nose glued to the ground and couldn’t seem to focus on
anything else. He searched every inch of the yard for something good to smell
but I’m not quite sure what he was sniffing exactly. He took a few breaks to
stand in the little kiddy pool but there wasn’t any water in it. I think he
must have been trying to hint that he’d like it to be filled up already. Sadie
also did her own thing today. She too was interested in the smells but instead
of sniffing the ground she was sniffing the air. Sadie sat on top of one of the
big rocks in the yard, the picnic table or simply stood on the grass while
sticking her nose high up into the air. At the end of their group time, the two
of them got a sudden burst of energy and took off into the far yard. Max and
Sadie were darting around the yard after one another, always trying to catch
each other’s tail. Just before they went back inside, the two of them were in a
long play tackle but they quickly bounced out of it and were ready to go inside
to cuddle.
