Today is Abby and Dudley’s last day, and boy are we going to
miss these two little guys! They have been such a great addition to our small
dog groups. They started their morning off with a nice stroll along the trail
with their friend, Kado. They led the way knowing exactly what to do and where
to go like they’ve been here forever. They settled down in their kennel for a
nice nap between their walk and group time. They were up and ready to head
outside when I opened their kennel door, they went straight down the hall and
out the door ready to start exploring. Dudley slowly walked around the yards
trying to decide where was the best place to sit and relax, but he couldn’t
quite decide today so instead watched his sister Abby as she thoroughly
explored with her nose to the ground. As Abby was on her mission in the grass
yard to noticed the giant hole that the dogs in the group before her had made
bigger today. She checked it out carefully around the edge before heading
straight down into the hole. 5 Abby’s could fit in the hole it’s so big! She
thought the hole was fascinating but soon lost interest and climbed out to do
some more exploring. We wandered around the yard together for a bit before
settling on the picnic table for some cuddles. Abby gives the best cuddles!
Casey is a very sweet and independent kind of girl. She had
a lovely walk with her buddies Cascabelle and Emma this morning. They enjoyed
the fresh morning air in the sunlight on their walk with Leah. During groups
Casey preferred to keep to herself and tour around the yard on her own. I
convinced her to come over and say hello for a little while for a cuddle and
back scratch. She went off on her own again, wandering around the yard watching
out for the younger group mates and their antics. A little puppy named Vega has
really excited to meet Casey and wiggled her way over towards Casey to say hi
and see if she wanted to play. Casey is so calm and gentle and let Vega bounce
all over her before kindly just walking away from the little ball of energy.
Vega didn’t seem to mind and bounced over to Cascabelle instead. Casey then
continued on her way moseying around the yard. I decided to join her in her
exploration and we managed to search the whole yard before settling down again
for a nice back rub. Casey was all waggy tails when I went and got her for her extra attention time. We grabbed a leash and headed outside to explore the front yard. Casey spent some time wandering around checking out everything. She would come across something of particular interest and bury her nose in the grass to really investigate. After we had gone all over the front yard we made our way back inside. Casey was happy to come in and relax. She didn't object to getting some treats and lots of pets.
Max and Sadie are always such a blast to have in group and
today was no different. They were raring to go when I went to get them. They
barged out of the door with full enthusiasm to start their day with some rough
and tumble playing. Sadie went straight to the picnic table and hopped on top,
assessing her group members and trying to figure out who would be the best to
play with today. Max, on the other hand, ran up to everyone in his group to say
hello and make sure they all knew he was there. Isis and Percy were pretty excited
to start playing with their buddy Max and the three of them bounced out to the
grass yard together. They ripped around the yard twisting and turning taking
turns in the lead. Sadie noticed the three having so much fun that she tagged
along and joined in the fun. Soon enough Rosie and Magic just had to get in the
middle of it and all 6 dogs were running laps around the yard after Isis. Isis
can be quick on her feet and gave everyone a good dance around the yards and
through the tunnel. Sadie broke off from the group and headed towards the hole
in the grass yard that she loves to dig in every day. She dove in to the hole and pawed out some dirt
before the huskies noticed what she was doing. Now everyone knows a husky loves
a good hole. They all took turns digging and while the dirt was flying Max and
Sadie watched in awe. As soon as a spot opened up Max took his turn in the hole
to check it out. He didn’t seem to see what the excitement was with digging so
he backed out and let someone else have a turn. By the end of group everyone
was tuckered out and ready for a nap.
Issy and Mocha started their morning off with a walk. Their
daycare friend, Percy joined them around the trail. The three of them know the
trail like the back of their paw and happy to set a steady pace with Leah in
tow. Issy and Mocha weren’t too sure about the whole “being in a kennel”
situation but the princesses soon realized they weren’t going to get to stay in
the kitchen today. After their walk they relaxed and took a quick snooze before
it was time for their group to go outside.
They joined their group outside and both joined me in the grass yard do
some sniffing around. Issy is always so concentrated on her exploring that
nothing can seem to pull her away from it. She toured around the yards sniffing
every blade of grass to make sure nothing has changed since she was in on
Thursday. I managed to catch her attention and get a few pictures of the camera
shy girl before she went back to her exploring. Mocha was much more interested
in greeting her group members and checking on what her sister was doing before
finding herself a nice patch of sun to bask in. Rosie noticed that Issy wasn’t
socializing with her friends so took it in to her own paws to change that. She
bounced up to Issy and gave her a little play bow and a woof, Issy couldn’t
resist the young girls antics and played along with Rosie for a few steps. Issy
then remembered she is too serious for that stuff anymore and went back to her
sniffing. Silly girl. Mocha was relaxing by the door when Sky noticed she
looked lonely and joined Mocha to give her company. These two girls hung out until
it was time to go inside, probably talking about all the youngsters and their
craziness.
Percy, Percy, Percy…what a silly boy. Percy is such a good
boy in his kennel waiting patiently until it is his turn to go outside. When I
opened his kennel door he hopped up and raced down the hall to go outside.
Percy ran out the door and then quickly turned around to wait for the rest of
his friends to join in. As is friends came out the door one by one he greeted
them all with a bark and then followed them all to the grass yard. Percy, Isis
and Max had a fun game of chase darting through the yards trying to get all
their friends to join in. When things settled down Percy ducked in to the
tunnel and went back and forth back and forth from one end to the other. Justice
saw Percy out of the corner of his eye and wondered what he was doing, so
Justice headed over towards the tunnel to see what was up. Percy quickly
realized someone had seen him and bounced away to see what fun he could find.
The huskies started digging in the hole in the yard and Percy instantly wanted
to join in on the fun, so he bounced around the group in circles telling
everyone what to do. Everyone was soon jumping and barking and taking turns
digging and enjoying their time together outside! Percy took some me time at
the end of group to settle down and investigate the corners of the yard. When
it was time to go back inside Percy went straight to his kennel and curled up
for an afternoon nap.
Bella was so funny in the yard today. After her usual nose
to the ground time in the gravel yard, she made her way into the grassy yard to
investigate this territory. While she was on the move, she made her way to me
where she nuzzled into my leg and accepted some pets, which is also normal for
her. As I made my way away from her, and onto the picnic table to visit some
other dogs, Bella trotted along behind me. I figured she just wanted more pats
so I continued to pet her while she was on the ground and I was sitting on the
picnic table. However, today, she climbed up onto the picnic table and right
onto my lap. She lay across my lap with her paws dangling off either side of
me. Boy oh boy, was she ever content with herself. She rested here for quite some
time, gladly accepting some great scratches behind her ears and pats down her
sides. Her pals weren’t sure what to make of her funny position, so one by one
they came over to investigate her. Not bothered at all, Bella continued to lie
across me, enjoying the warm sun and some special attention. Jake took a break
from his antics with his friends to also check up on his sister. As Jake
semi-climbed onto the picnic table, Bella bound off my lap and began to zip
across the yard. Of course, Jake was right on her tail ready to chase. Bella
was quick to stop running and get back to sniffing, however, Jake was insistent
on continuing playing. Resa was more than happy to zoom around the yard with
Jake. This duo is very fast on their feet, challenging one another to run
faster and faster. Jake loved the competition and kept up to Resa with no
problem. The pair finally ran out of gas and took a break to sniff around the
yard.
Merlin looks absolutely adorable with his fresh haircut and
his new bandana. I kept calling him Teddy Bear today, since that is exactly
what he looks and feels like. Merlin was being absolutely adorable at the start
of his outdoor time. He was constantly sitting at my feet, staring up at me,
with his big brown eyes, asking for pets. I took some time to sit with him on
the picnic table and give him some great cuddles. I could nuzzle into his soft
soft fur all day long, and he would gladly accept cuddles all day long I’m
sure. After some one on one time, Merlin made his way into the yard to check
out his friends. He was pleasantly surprised to meet up with Miko, who was
instantly interested in bouncing around with him. Merlin was keen to play a
short game of dart and dash with Miko. This pair had springs in their feet
while they were playing, leaping and bounding side to side with one another.
After some exploring, Merlin met up with a new friend Pippin. Pippin and Merlin
spent some time sniffing one another over at first, once they were comfortable
with each other, Pippin play bowed to Merlin causing Merlin to leap back.
Pippin tried once more, good thing he did because the second time Merlin
instantly gave in. Pippin was thrilled to have a playmate to goof around with.
This pair was hilarious to watch. They spent the majority of their time playing
up on their hind legs with their paws wrapped around one another as if they
were giving each other a hug. There are very even in size, so I assume they
were using one another for balance. Pippin was having an absolute blast dancing
around with his new best buddy Merlin. Whenever one of them wanted a break they
would let go, do a brief dance, and then get back up on their hind legs for
another boxing match. Pippin spent the majority of his time outdoors playing
with Merlin, and then tracking him around the yard. He was also happy to meet
Miko, and Vega the puppy, who briefly entertained him, however no dog could
compare to the fun Merlin provided Pippin with today.
Miko was ready to get going the moment he walked through the
door this morning. Of course, he made his way to the back by bouncing down the
hall, stopping to say hello to all the staff as he wandered by them. Miko was a
little lonely in his kennel today, as Pearl and Lola weren’t here, however I’m
sure every once in a while it’s nice to have all the space to him. He wasn’t
lonely at all during his group time, as numerous outgoing, happy-go-lucky pups
accompanied him. The moment Miko got into the yard, he instantly spotted Merlin
exploring in the grass yard. Miko was determined to get to know him right off
the bat. He bolted over and did a quick sniff, before play bowing and zipping
in circles around him. Merlin is super easy going, and was more than happy to
give in to Mikos request. Merlin was keen to play a short game of dart and dash
with Miko. This pair had springs in their feet while they were playing, leaping
and bounding side to side with one another. It wasn’t long before Miko got
distracted by his pals Jake and Resa zipping around the yard and motored over
to his side to join in on the action. Miko sprung behind them, trying as best
as he could to keep up with their very fast paced chase game around the yard.
Miko did a good job keeping up to these long legged friends, however it did
tire him out, so he took a break and hung out with me. He was more than happy
to nuzzle in between my legs and receive some pets and cuddles. Soon enough,
Miko spotted two of his buddies, Pippin and Merlin, goofing around. He was
quick to leave my side to check out their action. Pippin and Merlin were taking
part in a serious boxing match, which unfortunately was a two-dog game. Miko
was more than happy to bounce around them, doing a wonderful job of playing
referee. He would let out the odd bark her and there, showing them he was
interested in their every move. As this pair continued on with their games Miko
then left heir side to check out Vega and Resa busy digging their way to China.
Miko is a very good boy, and didn’t partake in the digging nonsense, however he
did supervise with great a look of excitement in his eyes. Before it was time
to head in, I snatched Miko into my arms and gave him a good cuddle before
carrying indoors to prevent him from playing his usual game of “catch me if you
can”. He was more than happy to be cuddled, and placed back in his kennel where
he received a cookie.
Poppy had another very busy day, accompanied by lots of fun
group-mates. Her action-filled groups have kept her very busy throughout her
stay. It is great to see her constantly on the move, and keen to get in on the
action. Today, a lovely husky named Kodiak sparked her interest. He followed
her around for a bit, and she continuously turned her nose up to him, playing
hard to get. He eventually gave up, which immediately changed Poppy’s mind.
Poppy then zoomed over to him and instantly began sniffing him head to toe,
showing him that she was, in fact, interested. Kodiak offered her a quick play
bow, and then darted off looking for a chase. Poppy wasn’t too interested in
chasing him so she made her way to my side inside where she could get some
attention. Poppy was more than happy to politely paw at me, asking for a good
scratch. I know she is a suck for a scratch under the chin and behind the ears,
so I provided her with exactly this. After she was content with her massage she
made her way back into the yard to check up on her group-mates. She loves to
sniff the yard and then weave in on the busy action, monitoring everybody’s
actions. This keeps her very busy as throughout all of her group outings. During
her afternoon group, Poppy was even more keen to get in on the play action. A
bunch of her friends started to run around the yard in a big group, so Poppy
took off running after them. When one dog would tackle another, Poppy would
sneak through everyone’s legs and hop on the dog from a different angle. When
her friend would jump back up off the ground, Poppy was the first one to zip
around all of the other dogs and hop on them again. She’s such a speedy little
girl!
