Maya and Makayla had a wonderful start to their morning by stretching their long legs first thing for their trail walk on this beautiful morning. Today, daycare buddy Tanner joined them and they are always pleased to meet new friends and are always very pleasant and gentle with the other guests. They love to take their time strolling through the trails to make sure they sniff out all the new morning smells. After a delightful walk it was time for an outdoor play session with some of their favorite friends Tycho and Lucy, who are some of our resident huskies. Maya especially took a liking to Lucy and would follow her around the yard and jump up on her back to get her attention. These two happily roamed the yard side by side. Makayla on the other hand was a perfect fit to play with her pal Tycho. They both exude a playful energy and Makayla had a blast romping around the yard with him. These two are such sweet ladies and very obedient; especially when they sit pretty for some extra love and treats!

My first group of the day was an energetic one to say the least; especially because it included our goofy daycare pal Finnigan and the sweetest girl Jemma who is in for boarding. I knew it was going to be a fun group since they both exude so much energy and love a good play in the yard. To no surprise, the two of them started the morning out glued at the hip, or mouth you could say as they wrestled playfully around the yard. This got the attention of the others in the group as they led the pack in a great game of chase. Next it was off to play with some other friends; Finnigan remembered Charlie from this past summer, these two hit it off then and continued their friendship today. They especially bond over toys, as they both love a good game of fetch and tug. Finnigan found the jollyball in the yard and immediately scooped it up in his mouth before the others could. He happily jaunted over to the rocks where he could play and guard it from the others. Jemma found this very intriguing and would try to go over to get his attention but Finnigan was guarding it with his life, especially from Korvo who can be just as quick to snatch it away. Since Finnigan was busy playing ball, Jemma found attention from Mowgli and the two of them continued the great game of chase. Whether it was together or apart, Gemma and Finnigan had a blast out in the yard today!

Now it was time for the small dog group to have their fun and let some energy out in the small dog yard. Today our group was full of daycare pals including Jake and Bella. Jake had so much energy this morning I could hardly keep up with him. He was playing with every friend that would give him attention. This especially caught the interest of Shadow as these two have created a playful bond over the past week. Jake would run circles around Shadow then immediately get down in a play bow to let him know that he was up for a good wrestle. Soon enough everyone in the yard joined in on the fun and was eventually running circles around me. Bella happily watched her brother making sure she didn’t get run over but every so often she would run up to the group and give them a playful bark as if she was telling them to slow down. She then must have smelt something interesting in the yard because she immediately got down on her back and started rolling around. This got the attention of everyone else and sure enough everyone took turns rolling around on their backs in the grass! I was also surprised to see how much energy Maya had this morning and she made sure she was part of the action. She gets along so well with Jake and Shadow and really enjoyed a playful wrestle and good chase around the yard. She is such a sweet girl and especially loves the extra attention she gets out there. Every so often I could see her gaze over to her brother Rocky who prefers to stay out of the action. He is quite content lounging around in the cool breeze. I always make sure to go over and give him some extra pets but I could also see that today he was brave enough to sniff around the yard instead of taking his usual spot by the door.

Tobin was excited to be whisked away this morning from his kennel for his extra attention time. He now knows the routine and sure enough after his morning trail walk it was time to head back out for some one on one time. He really seemed to enjoy his walk this morning so we decided to go for an extra lap around the trail. I could see the excitement in his body as we walked along the trail and every so often he would get a burst of energy and go flying forward with his bum wiggling with excitement. Tobin is such an obedient boy; every so often I would give him the sit command and sure enough he would park his bum down on the grass and graciously take in the cool breeze and beautiful view. Tobin especially loves the extra hugs and kisses he gets during his extra attention time and he always politely gives a nice lick back. You can just see how pleased he is to be in the company of others, he always has a big smile on his face with a his big tongue hanging out the side.

Fez is such a good boy. He really enjoyed his morning wander with Nicki around the back field. Fez slowly made his way along the trail, stopping to sniff lots of things that he came across. Fez was very happy to be apart of a busy group today. He was mostly excited to hang out with his little brother, Rex. In the yard, he spent a large portion of his time wandering around meeting and greeting his group mates. He took his time wandering to each individual to say his hellos. Fez was particularly interested in Sophie the golden retriever, he tried very hard to politely flirt with her, but she was much too distracted with a toy. Fez continued to follow her around until she gave him some attention back. Fez was very content with himself at this point, and made his way to my side for some pats and cuddles. When I stopped petting him he stood next to me barking at me asking for more. His antics drew attention from a good daycare friend, Tanner, who intern wanted to play! Fez and Tanner had a brief bounce around back and forth before Fez decided that was enough. He found a very comfortable spot in the yard to lay down and bask in the sun until it was time to head indoors.

Rex is always a pleasure to have. He brings so much positive energy to the playgroup he is a part of. This morning he had a wonderful walk with a new friend Mowgli. Nicki did a great job keeping these two on track while their noses had other plans in mind. In the yard today, Rex took a little while to get playing. He was much happier hanging out by my side accepting attention at first. Finally, the bouncy Molly got his attention. This duo began to frolic around the yard as if they had springs in their feet. Their fun games quickly drew the attention of Tanner, Indi, and Tobin, leading to a fun group chase. This set of dogs had a great time slowly trotting around the yard after one another, looping around the tunnel and behind the outdoor kennel, starting a bit of a game of tag. Rex is always much more focused on the other dogs to care where he stands in a chase. Finally, Tanner broke off with Rex for a little one on one play. Tanner isn’t usually that playful, however today Rex really sparked his interest. This duo bounced back and forth around a rock waiting for one to make a move. Finally Rex darted off leading Tanner to follow. They briefly raced around the yard before Rex caught up with his pals exploring the upside down poo. Rex insisted on taking a turn walking all over the pool, investigating the big toy. After thorough sniffing and searching, he realized it wasn’t all that great and made his way back into the yard where he joined in on a game of fetch with Molly before heading back indoors.

Needless to say, Tasha and Boris had a fabulous day. This duo was beyond thrilled with the return of daycare pals, Max and Sadie. It took half a second for Boris to meet up with his great pal Max in the yard today. They instantly began romping around which immediately drew attention to them, inviting great buddy Justice to join in. This trio’s shenanigans are never ending. Boris couldn’t decide if he wanted to race, wrestle, box, or just chill out today, so he did a bit of everything. One moment he would be zooming full speed across the yard, practically soaring through the air. Next think I knew he would be at the bottom of a bit pile up, and then on top of the picnic table towering over all his friends leading the match. My favourite moment today was watching Boris try to stand on the mini tunnel. A lot of the huskies assume the tunnel in the small dog yard has the same stability as the one in the big dog yard, and attempt to stand and balance on it. It never fails to collapse under them, sending them toppling to the ground, going from being the king of the game to quickly on the bottom of the pile. Boris continued to attempt standing on the tunnel and was continuously defeated, leaving Max and Justice pouncing all over him. Boris loves all the attention he gets from these boys so he is never upset with his slight failures. Tasha was very sure to be close by all the action today. Whether she was right on on the chases or supervising fro ma far, she never took her eyes off her son. For a good portion of their mid morning group outing, Tasha found a great seat on top of the picnic table where she basked in the sun while supervising the young ones shenanigans. IT didn’t take long for Boris to maul her on top of the table, requesting she joins in on the fun too. She didn’t deny his request, and quickly leapt off to join in on the fun. Tasha goofed around with Boris and friends for a little bit, before making her way to my side where she requested some pats and cuddles before heading back indoors. Boris was fantastic for his training today! I personally haven’t had the opportunity to work with him in awhile but he improves every time. We started out with a walk to get any jelly beans out and as usual he stayed by my side and plopped his bum on the ground any time I asked. We worked a little more on his down today to just reinforce it. After our walk we headed to the lounge where I asked Boris for a down stay. And let me tell you this boy didn’t move an inch, until I called him of course! We did this a few times around the room making sure he kept his focus on me, and not all the interesting smells. We then changed it up and did a little recall on the long line, which he was a super star for and finished it off with some distractions of little dogs. This seemed to be the most challenging for Boris since he doesn’t get a lot of opportunities to see the little guys. Resa and Julie helped out with this training exercise trying to steal all of Boris treats. We kept it short since he seemed a little uncomfortable with them so we will have to continue doing this more often!
Tasha and I had a fun little training session both out in the front yard and in the reception area. She's really mastered her basic commands, so we've moved on to practicing them with lots of distractions around. After going for a little structured walk down the driveway, Tasha and I came back in to the front room where Resa and Julie were waiting for us. Those two really love their treats and sat next to Tasha, testing her concentration skills. She did a great job, so we worked on "stay" with the other dogs in the room too. She did a fantastic job and I only had to remind her to sit back down once. Tasha was very focused on her rewards and kept her eyes on me.

Tobin is such a sweet boy; I am continuously pleased watching him have so much fun in his groups. Tobin took a bit of time to himself in the yard today before settling in with friends for fun and games. He was very interested in all the smells surrounding the perimeter of the yard as well as all the smells brought out by yesterdays rain. He made his way around the yard with his nose to the ground. Every time I called his name he would come zooming over to me with his whole bum wagging side to side. Tobin loves to nuzzle into my side, gladly accepting scratches and side pats while in the yard. After much exploration of the yard, Tobin got comfortable with his good pal Indi as well as his new friend Rex. Tobin was happy when Indi invited him to dance around the yard with him. Without a doubt in his mind, he was quick to saunter after his girlfriend and goof around. Rex was quick to follow along and join in on their games. This trio zipped and zoomed around the yard, Indi quick on her toes with Tobin right behind her impressing me every step of the way. After numerous laps around the yard, Indi made a pit stop by the pool to grab some water that had collected from the rain. Tobin was happy to tag along and explore this upside down pool. He climbed all over it, sticking his face wherever it would fit as well as digging in the deeper pools of water. As he sent water flying everywhere, he group-mates were quick to flee from the scene, leaving Tobin the king of the structure. He didn’t stay on the pool long before leaping off and catching up with his friends in the grassy yard for some more fun. By the end of his morning group outing, Tobin was happy to hang out by my side enjoying the warm sun along with some good pats and scratches.

Jemma loved spending some one on one time with me this morning. She was happy to head up to the front, where she usually spends her extra attention. She quickly stuck her face in the toy bin and snatched up her favourite bone. I had to bring her out to the lounge as we had customers coming in, and she insisted on bringing the bone. Jemma dragged the bone outdoors with her, stopping to chew on it mid way to the lounge. Once we got to the lounge she was much too distracted by the other toys to focus on the bone. Jemma and I had a great game of tug with a stuffy. Jemma is very strong, and won every round of tug. She then tossed around a rubber bone followed by a rope toy before making her way to my side for some cuddles. It wasn't long before Jemma was flopped on her back with her paws on her chest and legs sprawled apart asking for a belly rub. She was in heaven as she accepted belly rubs and pats for ages. Finally we made our way back inside where she got some more cuddles from other staff members. Before heading back to her kennel, Jemma showed me some of her commands for cookies. I was pleased to see her do sit and lie down so well. When she was over the commands she began flinging her paw at me requesting "treats, treats, treats!" and no  more tricks. She won this battle, and got plenty of cookies just for being cute before heading back to her bed.
