Monday October 24th, 2016

Finnigan loves his days with us, without a doubt. The moment he got in the yard he was so excited to see his new group mates that he couldn't quite focus on one dog at first. Finn zipped and zoomed from dog to dog, saying his hellos, seeing who he could focus in on to play with. He was overwhelmed with all the wonderful pups in his group, such as Mowgli, Vega, and Glory, all whom he adores. Finn spent a minute or two watching everyone, observing everyone's play styles, carefully selecting which game he wanted to join in on. I wasn't surprised when he chose Mowgli and Charly to play with at first. This three made for a great trio, all enjoying rolling around and pouncing all over one another. Finnigan alternated pouncing on top of Mowgli and being mauled by Charly and Mowgli at the same time. After some good wrestling, Finn hopped up and took off across the yard chasing after Vega who he spotted from a ways away. Finn was so excited to see Vega carrying a stuffed animal, which of course he had to try and get. He was shocked to see how resilient Vega was being, refusing to give the toy up, giving Finn quite the match. The pair tugged and pulled one another all over the yard, both refusing to let go of the toy. Finally, Finnigan won the toy over and was absolutely thrilled with himself. He began parading around the yard, showing it off to everyone which didn't do him much good as Vega zoomed up behind him and snatched it back. The pair was back at it, continuing their strong, fun game, of tug and keep away. Vega even got Finnigan leaping over the agility tunnel, which he doesn't do that often. By the time he finally got it again, he was very tired from all the fun and games. He then chose to take the toy with him and lay down with it for a while to re-fuel his batteries before the next round of games.

Dani is such a little spitfire. She does a great job of getting her group moving around as well as staying very busy. The second she got into the yard she snatched up a pink rope toy and began bolting around the yard with it. I love watching her ears flapping as she runs around, it reminds me of Dumbo the elephant. Before making her way to my side for a good game of tug, she zipped and zoomed around the yard, darting left and right around her group-mates showing off her rope toy as well as trying to get her mates to play. She was happy to play a good game of tug with me, really giving me a challenge. She ended up winning, of course, and continued to run around with it in her mouth until her group-mate Indi showed some interest. Dani was quick to pick up the pace and zoom around looking for a chase. Indi wasn't too interested in chasing as much as she was interested in the toy that Dani had. This got Indi zooming after her none the less, and Dani was thrilled to have a chase. Soon enough, group-mates Charlotte and Charlie were in on the action. Dani loved having Charlie and Charlotte bolting around the yard with her. To no ones surprise, Dani led the race around the yard, staying ahead without a worry in the world. She was running so fast that she lost her followers, and didn't even notice. She continued to zip and zoom all around the yard, flying left and right and leaping and bounding over rocks and the tunnel. Dani is quite the agile little girl, which impressed me very much. As she was showing off her speed she bounded over the agility tunnel three times in the row, not even grazing the top of it. In another life, Dani must have been a gazel or a cheetah. After finally draining out most of her energy, she stuck her nose to the ground to do some sniffing and exploring. She found a really great scent at one point and she had to roll all over it to make sure she could carry the smell around with her. By the time we head indoors, she was more than happy to curl up on her bed for an afternoon snooze. Dani greeted me with her quirky smile when I approached her kennel this morning to whisk her away for her extra attention time. She knew exactly where she was going; straight to the indoor playroom for toy time! In fact Dani remembers some of her favorite toys she had been playing with days before and immediately ran over to the red toy bucket to search them out. Toys came flying out by the number and she pounced on each one with excitement. I would call Dani over to play a quick game of fetch and she would jump up on her hind legs like the agile girl she is with her big tongue flopping out the side. I would throw one across the room and she would zoom right over to fetch it and come drop it by my feet to throw it again. I would reach down to grab it but like the smart girl she is she would snatch it back right away and look up at me with those big eyes ready for a game of tug and war. She kept herself busy the whole time and is such a sweet lady to be around as she exudes such a happy and spirited energy that everyone enjoys especially the four-legged kind!

I was so excited to come in this morning and see that Charlotte and Sophie are staying with us. It seems like a while since I last saw this lovely duo. I was very surprised to see how tall and mature Charlotte has gotten. I still remember how adorable she was when she first started coming in. Sophie was very pleased to see me this morning, as I entered her kennel and sat down next to her on the cot she was snoozing on. She was content to have my company and accept some good cuddles. As I was trying to give her some attention, Charlotte smothered me with wet kisses. Sophie was happy to enjoy a slower trail walk this morning with two other senior friends. The three of them took their time to walk along the path, taking as much time as they pleased to sniff everything under their paws. When it was time to head out for their morning group, Charlotte was the first one out the door. Meanwhile, Sophie slowly got up from bed and had a nice big stretch before sauntering out into the yard. Charlotte was quick to begin zooming around the yard, checking out all her group mates as fast as possible so that she could get to playing. She was thrilled when fellow golden retriever, Charlie, asked to chase her. Charlotte wasn't going to deny this request and was quick to begin zooming around with him. This team was so fast on their feet, speeding around the yard with fire under their paws. Charlotte loved having a pal so interested in her, and she continued to keep him interested by bolting through the tunnel and leaping over fellow group-mates to see if he was quick enough to keep up. Charlie did not disappoint, really giving Charlotte a run for her money. The pair zipped and zoomed around the yard over and over until Charlotte finally collapsed on her back looking for a wrestle mate. Charlie was more than happy to briefly roll around with her, before inviting her to box with him. These two kept each other so busy for their entire time outdoors. The pair was happily accompanied by Dani, the fast Weimieriner who was a wonderful addition to their games in the yard. The moment one of them would break off from the games, the other was right back on top of them asking for more. As you could expect, Sophie wasn't involved in these games. Charlotte continuously brought Charlie over to Sophie's side so that she could check up on her big sister but Sophie would always politely walk away from the young hooligan. Sophie was very happy to have me in the yard to keep her company. If I wasn't snuggling her, she would follow me around and then nuzzle her nose into my legs asking for some more rubs. She is such a darling, I was very happy to have her on this chilly October day to keep me warm. Sophie and Charlotte were next for their extra attention time and I took them up to the indoor playroom for some cuddles with Sophie and playtime with Charlotte. Sophie the sweet girl found a comfy spot over in the corner of the room and made herself comfortable for the duration of her time. I took a seat right by her for some nice head rubs as we watched Charlotte play with some of the toys on the ground. It took some enticing to get Charlotte to want to play, in fact she was quite curious as to what the big red bucket was so I tilted it down so she could see all of the lovely toys she could play with. We found once nice bone that she seemed to like and I played a couple rounds of tug with her. She seemed to get a bit jealous of all the attention Sophie was getting on the ground so she quickly gave up the bone and sauntered over for some extra love herself. So the rest of the time I cuddled with these two precious girls because that's what extra attention is all about and especially being retrievers, they couldn't get enough of the love and cuddles!

Ranger was very happy with me today, as he received a cookie the moment he came in. After this, I was his best friend for the day. We enjoyed a nice walk along the trail with two of his senior friends Sophie and Merlin. I let these three lead the way, with their noses in the ground. Ranger enjoys to walk nice and slow, stopping to sniff all the great smells left behind from other animals. Ranger was rather spicy in the yard today, as there was a young female in his group who absolutely fascinated him. The moment Ranger smelled her, he was glued to her side. Ranger followed Magic around for the entire time outside today, constantly wagging his tail, and licking her ears. He tried play bowing to her a couple times, but she had to interest in his shenanigans. Despite being turned down, he continued to try for some attention. Finally, Magic gave in and briefly danced around with him. This was the best thing for Ranger. He doesn't usually have so much energy but today he was full of it. He was so happy to have made a cute girlfriend, and stuck by her side for the whole day.

Coco and Timbits are two of our favorite little daycare buddies and the two of them had a blast out in the yard today with the small dog group. Usually Timbits lets his energy out in the yard by wrestling with the ever playful Jake but he and Bella were inside for their special attention at the time. Luckily for Timbits, little Resa was ready to play. I could hardly keep up with these two little rascals who were running circles around me and boy were they fast. At first Coco couldn't be bothered to pay any attention to the two as she had to make her rounds but sure enough Timbits enticed her over and the three of them wrestled and played all morning long. Shortly after, little Shelby joined the group and the three of them ran over to the door to give her a big kiss and hello, then it was back to wrestling for Coco and Timbits. I can see how this little guy keeps her on her feet as he is quite the energetic bundle of joy! Next it was time to come in for an afternoon nap and when I walked by their kennel the two of them were cuddled together on the bed, what sweethearts!

With much enthusiasm, Boris and Tasha were ready to start their morning off with their favorite part of the day, their trail walk! They are both always eager to see who they will be walking with, and today it was with speedster herself Dani! Usually Boris is thrilled to be accompanied by such energetic and spirited dogs such as Dani but it seemed Tasha was just as excited today as he was. Her energy kept up out in the yard today as well for her first outing with good pals Max and Sadie who join us weekly for daycare. At first I thought it was going to be a fairly mellow group as the four of them took their time separately to sniff out the yard, however not for long. Tasha was eager to wrestle and play and therefore enticed Max to wrestle. Max immediately got down in a playbow accepting the challenge. This of course got the attention of both Boris and Sadie and quickly joined in and soon enough they were zooming around the yard. The four of these pals have grown a nice bond of the past couple of weeks and are quite comfortable with one another. Even though Boris and Max are both big confident males, you would never know out in the yard as they both play so gently especially around the ladies Tasha and Sadie. After a few runs around the yard, they all made sure to make a stop by the pool for a quick drink and more bonding time. Tasha was such a good  girl this afternoon for our training session. We did some more work on her basic commands but with lots of distractions. We used the kitchen as our first space, having people coming in and out and lots os smells coming from the counter. Tasha focused very well and payed great attention to me. We then moved into the reception area where Julie and Resa were also very interested in what Tasha and I were up to. We finished off by practicing taking treats gently.
