It was a cold and wet morning but that didn’t stop Dani from running her energy out on her trail walk. Today, she was joined by pal Mowgli and these two wanted to run rather than walk to stretch out their long legs from the night before! Dani is a very obedient girl and when she found herself getting too far ahead of us on her walk she would immediately turn around and keep up the pace as a pack. Speaking of packs, Dani’s first outdoors playgroup was filled with friendly husky friends. It was very cute to see Dani weaving in and out of them like this agile girl she is. Dani gets along great with everyone and it’s nice for her to interact and meet new friends during her groups because we know she will have fun regardless. All of the husky guests found it quite amusing to watch her run circles around them! Dani gets very excited when I call her over in the yard, she immediately zooms to my side and jumps up and down on her hind legs with joy which also gives me the best photo opportunity, often catching her with her mouth open and ears flopping in the wind. She is a quick little girl and as I mentioned earlier very agile, she made sure to check out the agility tunnel but rather run through it, she thought it was best to jump up and over. This afternoon Dani will be thrilled to get some extra attention time in the warm indoor playroom. Dani literally leaped out of her kennel this afternoon because she knew it was time for her extra attention and that meant playtime in the indoor playroom. This involved toys, toys and more toys. Dani especially loves the soft chewy bones; she could sit there for hours and keep herself busy. There were so many options to choose from, she would run over to the big toy bucket, stick her little head in and bring out a treasure. She did this every couple of minutes once she was tired of one she would run back for another. We decided to play a quick game of fetch and she would spring into the air to try and catch the ball. Then when she would find the perfect tug toy she would run over and entice me to play tug with her. Boy is she strong, needless to say she won every round! She worked up quite a thirst running circles around me and would take big gulps of water in between playing. Dani is such a pleasant and energetic pup and surely loves the extra attention!
The small dog groups aren’t as fond of this weather as some of the other big dogs; most of them decided to huddle together to keep each other company and provide warmth. However the rain didn’t stop some of our most energetic small dog friends including Coco and Timbits. Timbits is always up for a good time and he immediately hit it off with Jake, another energetic pal. The two of them had no worries running it out in the yard while getting their little paws muddy. At first Coco wasn’t too impressed with the rain, I could see her static holding one paw up as if she didn’t want to get it wet. It didn’t take too long however for Timbits and Jake to entice her over to play and off she went running towards them with Resa following close behind. Keegan and Abby were some of the few that preferred to huddle around together closer to the door but as with Coco, they were easily persuaded to follow me into the far yard for a quick play. Jock was fortunate enough to miss out on the rain this morning as he spent his time getting some pampering in the salon but Abby’s turn was next which would be the perfect start to her afternoon.
Keegan is such an adorable little guy and has the cutest bark. While following me around the yard he made sure to let his presence known to the others as he walked by or perhaps he was trying to let me know it was time to go back in! Keegan is also a playful pup but today I think he took his time to sniff out the yard and say hello to his friends before gearing up for some energetic days ahead of him. Next up was some much-needed naps curled up in their cozy blankets for these little guys. Keegan was more than ready for some cuddles during his extra attention time this afternoon. He spent a minute saying hello to a few the other staff and then immediately jumped up on my lap. I gave him a big hug and he was content to sit with me for a little while. Next, I showed him the toy bucket and offered him a few different options. He sniffed each of them, but in the end he decided that the big comfy chair looked much better than a toy. He hopped up on the comfy cushion and sat there looking like a little model. I brought out some treats and Keegan's eyes lit up right away! He posed like a little angel for a picture, and then quickly ate his treat. We spent the rest of our time on the armchair together, keeping cozy on this chilly day.
Boris and Tasha were eager to get up first thing this morning as they knew they would be heading out shortly for their morning trail walk, one of the best parts of their day. Charlotte joined them, and this provided much entertainment for them as they watched this goofy girl try to weave in and out between them and this sparked interest in Boris to play with her but Tasha stuck to her trail mostly before joining in and wrestling with Boris. The fun continued out in the yard for this brother-sister duo but this time they hung out with daycare pals Sadie and Max. Max and Boris always have a good time together and you can often find them wrestling playfully on their hind legs and running laps in the far yard. All of this commotion always entices Tasha to join in the fun and she will zoom over to jump on Boris and start their own wrestling match. Max and Sadie were very pleasant on their walk this morning, both bums were wiggling and tails perked to the sky as they sniffed out the trail. Sadie, the curious girl made her usual rounds of the yard today and sniffed it out from back to front as she usually does. She happily weaves in and out from the other guests making sure she doesn’t get caught up in a wrestling match. She much prefers to leisurely roam on her own terms and agenda but is always very pleasant with the other guests as she walks by with a big smile on her face. Boris and Tasha were certainly excited for their extra attention inside this afternoon after all the cold rain. They sprinted up to the playroom full speed and slid right by the door. They quickly turned and ran into the room tackling one another ready to play. I went and found a cool new crinkly toy and when I showed it to the pair their eyes lit up in excitement. I tossed the toy onto the ground and they both pounced on it. Tasha realized it was as exciting as she was hoping and let Boris check it out. Boris gave it a few sniffs before leaping onto Tasha and wrestling in the chair for the rest of their time up front.
The rain really started to pick up for my last group of the day, which included sweet Indi. Indi has been staying with us for a while now and is used to the routine around here. After her morning trail walk she knew it was time for her first group outing, which meant time to explore the yard. She met some new friends today and really enjoyed the company of Dragon who happily followed her around the yard. Indi and some of the others decided to take cover in one of the outdoor kennels; I immediately joined them and Indi sat down by my feet so I could give her head rubs as we watched the rain come down. She didn’t mind the big sloppy kisses from Dragon who also took a seat beside us. Indi was then brave enough to go out and explore, as she loves to do and seemed to enjoy running around in the rain. Probably not as much as coming back in to her warm kennel where I cuddled her a bit more and dried her off. She always appreciates the extra attention and will give me a big lick and head nudge in return!
It is absolutely wonderful to have Poppy back with us. Much like a couple weeks ago, she had such a fabulous days. When Poppy first head out into the yard she was very suspicious of the young crazy pups. She spent a little bit of time sniffing around and closely supervising the action going on, monitoring what action was going on and picking who she wanted to join in with. She was very startled when newcomer Kodi zoomed right by her, nudging her as he passed. She wasn’t sure if he meant this gesture in a nice way or in a naughty way. Never the less, she bolted around the rock after him to get a closer sniff of this silly guy. Right away, Kodi leapt around and play bowed to Poppy. She instantly picked up on his invite to play and the pair began romping around. I was surprised to see Poppy so goofy with such a big outgoing lad. Kodi was dripping head to toe with mud and water, completely smothering Poppy with his filth. She didn’t mind at all, in fact she followed him into puddles. Poppy really didn’t want to let up on playing with Kodi so she continued to follow him around, whacking his side to get his attention and leaping right on him. Kodi loved all the attention and the duo continued to play around. Soon, Poppy’s good pal from her last visit; Jemma, spotted her from across the yard and bee-lined it towards her. Poppy was thrilled to have Jemma around to goof of with, and Poppy’s duo quickly became a trio. Soon enough, the entire group was bolting around the yard, weaving around rocks and bolting through the agility tunnel taking on a big chase. Poppy was right in on the action, moving her little legs as fast as possible and doing a wonderful job staying right on her pals heels. She was so busy today, zipping around the yard non-stop. It was great that the miserable weather didn’t affect Poppy, giving her a wonderful first day.
I had so much fun with Finn today, from the moment he got here to the minute he crashed out in his kennel. Finnigan was so happy to bolt down the hall to me and instantly get hooked up for his walk. Finnigan was thrilled to meet up with two poodles for his walk, and happily trotted by my side on the trail. As soon as group time rolled around, I knew he was going to have a blast. His group was full of young, outgoing, crazy pups, most of whom he has met before. Finn took no time at all to bolt down the hall and into the yard where he quickly met up with his friends Jemma and Mowgli. Finnigan began romping around with these two, sending water and mud flying everywhere as he kicked around on the ground. He and Jemma took turns rolling around while Mowgli danced all around him. An old buddy of his, Kodi, who was playing around with Poppy, soon distracted Finnigan. Finnigan made his way to them and joined in on their fun. He started zooming full speed across the yard, looking over his shoulder ensuring pups to be following him. He was pleased to see practically the whole group on his heels, leading him to really pick up the pace. Finnigan bolted across the yard and through the agility tunnel, showing off his speed and agility with great pride. His running came to a halt as he spotted a Frisbee lying in the yard. He was quick to snatch it, drawing loads of attention to himself. Jemma, Mowgli and Vega all tried snatching it away from him, which started a game of tug. To no ones surprise, Finn won the toy and paraded round the yard showing off his treasure. He spent the rest of his time in the yard protecting his Frisbee and chewing on it once his pals left him alone.
Jemma did such a great job keeping me warm this morning after our very wet walks. She loved cuddling into me on the chair, despite how drenched she was. She dried herself off very quickly by nuzzling into me and rolling around in the chair. We had a good time together during extra attention, cuddling, playing with toys, getting some treats, as well as chewing on her favorite bones. It was pouring all day long, and Jemma was not bothered one bit by the horrid weather. In fact, she was the life of the party during her group. She was absolutely ecstatic to have the company of her great pal Mowgli, as well as Finnigan and her pal from a couple weeks ago Poppy. Jemma got up to her usual shenanigans with Mowgli and Finnigan, rolling around and pouncing all over one another. She had some good fun dancing around with Poppy, and quickly joined in on a race around the yard with a new friend named Kodi. Jemma could barely focus on one dog for longer than a minute. She never stopped moving for her whole time outdoors today. When it was time to come indoors, I had to head out in the yard, chasing after her, with a treat in hand. Every other dog was please to come indoors as they were soaking wet, but not Jemma. She was grumpy with me when I toweled her down in her kennel, pouting as I held each paw individually wiping it down. She quickly forgave me when I gave her a cookie after.
