Our first “small-dog” group of the day
included the ever adorable Emma and Lola an Ancient Moon Siberian Husky. An
afternoon out in the yard wouldn’t be complete for Lola without her little
sidekick Vega, one of our resident Husky pups. Sidekick is an understatement; I
would prefer to call them “partners-in-crime”. These two little rascals could
barely wait to get out the door and start to wrestle in the yard. I thought
they would have burnt off some energy from their morning walk; they sure tired
me out! Once they discovered the tiny picnic table, this became the best game
and sure enough they had everyone in the yard trying to get them. Lola would
jump up and down and entice the others to try and get her then duck back under
the table for safety. Emma found this fairly amusing at times but she had other
things on her mind and that included a good old-fashioned game of chase with
her buddies Shadow and Blue. These three were inseparable and were running
circles around the others and me. Emma is one of those pups who is always happy
and appreciative of her surroundings and today was no different. She was so
pleased to be outside on such a beautiful day with some of her favorite pals.
It was hard to capture pictures of her at times because she was off chasing or
wrestling with her favorite pals!
One of the first faces I saw when I came in
this morning was that of Ziggy’s and what a pleasure that was! Ziggy is staying
with us along with Gizmo in our cat condos. I think I may have disturbed his
sleep because he woke up with a big old stretch. I opened his condo to let him
out and do some housekeeping; I think at first he took his time to examine me
but I soon realized he was a very affectionate little guy. He loves hits pets
however it looks like he loves his food even more! Once I gave him his fresh
water and some breakfast he darted right over for his morning feed. The
affection didn’t stop there, every time I passed by the cat room I made sure to
give him some extra pets as he lounged in the cat castle and gave him a few
treats. I think its safe to say he’s been enjoying his stay.
Jax and I had such a great day together. We
started things off with a slow trot. Jax isn’t too keen on walking the whole
trail, so I let him lead the way and we explored the field instead. Jax has a
strong nose on him, pulling me from scent to scent, insuring to get a good whiff
of whatever smell he was picking up. Come group time, Jax was ready to head
outdoors. He was very quick to charge me and ask for attention. Of course Jax
got what he wanted and gladly accepted some good pats and scratches along his
side. As I was carrying toys into the grassy yard, Jax caught glimpse of a
great green toy that I was carrying. He zoomed up behind me and began barking
at me, asking for the toy. I always forget how much Jax loves toys, if you find
him the right one. Today the green rubber bone did just the job. Jax was fully
occupied for his whole outdoor time with this fabulous treasure. We started off
by playing tug, and boy oh boy did Jax win every time. He sure is a strong man.
I tried to pull him around, and ended up being dragged in the opposite
direction by him. He reminds me so much of a big football player! After some
intense tug, Jax accidentally lost grip of the toy, leaving me in hand with his
prized possession. I was laughing at Jax as he was trying to leap high in the
air to snatch it from me. I didn’t let him jump too much before flinging it
across the yard. To my surprise, Jax really picked up the pace and motored
after it. We played a couple rounds of fetch, before we came to the
never-ending problem of “throw, don’t take”. Jax refused to drop the toy,
however every time I turned my back to him he would bark at me. I tried very
hard to play tug or fetch with him but he wouldn’t let me get a hold of it. I
had to give up and divert my attention to his group-mates. Jax finally stopped
barking enough for me to snatch it away from him and put it on the picnic
table. I thought “out of sight, out of mind”, but Jax could still see the toy,
which only made the problem worse. He tried to climb on the table but couldn’t
quite figure it out so I ended up giving it back to him. He then made his way
into the gravel yard where he found a nice spot in the sun to lay down and gnaw
on it.
Pippin had a great day, although he did
miss a portion of his photo opp due to his groom. He was snatched away
from me before I got to take some good shots. Never the less, he had so much
fun before and after. Pippin was quick to make friends with the one and only
Miko. Miko is a spicy daycare dog that comes in every Tuesday. Miko and Pippin
quickly met up in the grass yard while sniffing and exploring. The duo ran into
one another while their noses were deep in the grass. As they came across one
another, they were quick to bounce back and stare at one another with their
tails going a mile a minute. Pippin made the first move, by leaping towards
Miko. Miko leapt back, with his nose in the air and tail still wagging. Pippin
gave it one more shot, and this time around Miko was all in. They began to
dance around with their paws wrapped around one another while on their hind
legs. They made for one great match while boxing around. Miko eventually dodged
Pippins hold and zoomed off across the yard looking for a chase. Pippin briefly
trotted after him, and then diverted his attention to myself. Meanwhile, Miko
was still zooming around the yard looking for a chase. Two pals, Jock and
Spock, gave in to his requests. They briefly zoomed around the yard before Miko
too trotted over to my side. I was happy to have Pippin on one knee and Miko on
the other; both offering me kisses and cuddles. These boys were pleased to
receive some nice body rubs and ears scratches. I must add, Pippin looks absolutely
wonderful after his bath and clean up.
Bella and Jake had a nice Tuesday back with
us. They were very pleased to have the largest kennel down the small dog
hallway all to themselves. I spotted them lounging in numerous different
positions and locations throughout the day. Some times, it was hard to convince
them to get up and go outdoors. In the yard Bella was very focused on sniffing
and exploring. She insisted on checking out all the smells that she had missed
out on since she was last here. She kept herself very busy with her nose to the
ground for the majority of her outdoor time. With some convincing, Bella would
make her way to my side where she would rub her head into my side looking for
some nice ear scratches. Jake too was pretty busy with his nose today. He tried
to play around with friends a couple of times, but never committed to a full on
game. In between the small amounts of goofing around, Jake would make his way
to my side and beg for some attention. Jake is always wiggling his bum when
he’s around me, offering me kisses and cuddles. Bella and Jake were very
excited when they spotted me reaching my hand in my pocket. Everyone knows by
now what that means…treats! They were very happy to accept some little
crackers, and then spent a while following me around expecting more. To their
disappointment I was all out and they had to wait for their lunch to get
another treat. The duo briefly spotted Nicki come in and out of the yard
towards the end of group time, which got them very intrigued as to what was
behind the door. They spent the remainder of playtime staring at the door
tilting their heads left and right as they heard noises.
Abbie and Jock’s noses had a very busy day
today. These two have become very used to the yard; however, always insist on
sniffing it over top to bottom every day they are here. It was hard to get them
running around, but after much convincing I had Jock darting around behind me.
I got him very excited and began dancing around on his hind legs, leaping all
over me. He would leap on my legs and then bounce off turning the opposite way,
almost doing a flip. Abbie thought he was crazy and began barkin at him while
he was goofing around. The duo then motored off on their own, wrestling with
one another trying to tell each other who was the boss. The pair had a little
bit of fun before making their way into the gravel yard where they continued to
sniff and explore before going indoors.
Issy and Mocha had a very relaxed day. I
think this duo is recovering from their thanksgiving meal, like all of us ;).
Issy and Mocha were interested in their walking partner this morning, miss
Charly. Charly is a young golden retriever who is full of energy. Throughout
the entire walk Charly was constantly trying to get Issy and Mocha to play. At
one point, Mocha play bowed back, but then quickly stuck her nose in the air
showing her she was too good for her fun and games. Issy had no interest in her
what so ever, and spent the entire walk as far right as possible, avoiding any
contact with the youngster. The pair wasn’t too keen on being in a kennel
today, but made do with it for the morning. As soon as they got in the yard
they motored around with their noses to the ground. They kept themselves busy
until they heard Nicki come into the yard, and they insisted on going back
indoors with her. Nicki has a soft side, and put them in the kitchen. It’s safe
to say they have a new favourite. The duo was very happy to spend the remainder
of their indoor time in the kitchen where Issy could mooch for snacks while
Mocha had her favourite corner to nap in.
Jemma was very happy to be here on a
Tuesday. She was so happy to meet so many new dogs, as her usual Thursday
daycare crew wasn’t here. Jemma loves anyone and everyone, so mixing her with
new dogs is never a challenge. This morning I got to watch her walk with Indi.
Poor Nicki really had her hands full as this pair played throughout the entire
walk. I couldn’t help but laugh, watching Indi and Jemma pounce around side by
side, weaving in and out of the field. Of course we had to put Jemma and Indi
in a group today to let them continue their games. To no ones surprise, Jemma
made fast friends with Indi in the yard. They instantly began wrestling and
boxing with one another, without the restriction of a leash. This pair was so
much fun to watch. All their group-mates loved watching them playing around,
trying to get involved, but realizing this pair wanted to play solo. They
continued romping around for quite some time, running around and wrestling. Jemma
got distracted by two golden retrievers wrestling, and left Indi’s side for a
brief moment. She begged and begged miss Merida to play but Merida didn’t’ show
much interest. Jemma tried rolling around on her back, showing Merida how much
fun she could be, but still Merida didn’t take the bait. Jemma figured “oh
well” and made her way back to Indi where she knew she could have some fun.
Jemma and Indi continued their games until it was time to head indoors.
