Training

It was Tasha's turn first for training today. We started with our usual structured walk to reinforce the heel command and her loose leash walking. She did a great job even when I changed my pace, prompting her to speed up or slow down. We made our way back to the front yard where we worked on "stay", which is a tough one for Tasha because she's so eager to get her treats! We also worked more on "gentle" when taking treats. I had Tasha sit and/or lay down before I told her to stay and it took a few tries before I could back away from her far enough to release her from the command. She started to get the hang of it as we went, though and when she came running over to me I asked her to sit nicely and take the treats gently from my hand. She got better and better with each run through, and we'll continue working on both "stay" and "gentle".

When I brought Tasha back to the kennel Boris was sitting right at the door waiting for his turn. I hooked him up and off we went down the driveway. He did very well at his structured walk and at heeling, so he got some treats and we moved on to some other things. Once back in the front yard, Boris worked on his "stay" and some recall. Boris is great at recall when he's focused, but any time he's distracted things are a bit more challenging. I started by having him sit and stay before I called him over, and he listened very nicely every time. The hard work started when I let Boris follow his nose and wander around in the grass. Once he was distracted I called him over and it took a bit more coaxing this time. We did a few more rounds of distracted recall to end our time together.

Gracie is such a good girl. Working with her is such a breeze! She always seems to enjoy showing off her tricks and eating up her treats. I started with all of the basics, which include lots of different things for Gracie. We did "sit", "down", "stay", "paw", and "roll over". I had Gracie perform all of her tricks in a different order each time to keep things interesting. We then moved on to some recall work, at which Gracie did very well. I waited until she was roaming around and following her nose before I called her back over. She came running with a big grin on her face and sat patiently in front of me for her reward. Gracie and I sat down in the grass for some cuddles and the rest of the treats in my pocket before heading inside.

Groups

Tasha had a blast today, starting with her moring walk. She was so excited when she saw me walk down the hall with the leash. She began leaping off the kennel door, howling and chatting until I hooked her up and headed out the door. Both she and Boris were full speed ahead the entire walk. At one point there was something chirping in the long grass that caught both their attention and they went leaping like little foxes in the artic. It took much strength to get them away from this area. When it was time to go out for groups Boris was so excited. The group today consisted of 8 huskies, and one honourary husky, Dougie. Boris could not have been more intrigued by all his relatives being outside with him. Of course he immedately found Magic, and the two of them began sprinting around the yard. Isis was quick to join in on the fun and it wasn't long before Boris was on his back with his two sisters tag teaming him. Boris is much stronger than his friends, but for some reason always plays the victim. I think he really enjoys all the attention. Much like yesterday, Tasha was quick to get invovled when things got loud and rough. She darted over when she heard the howling and leaped right in on top of Boris. Rather than protecting him, she sided with Magic, Isis, and Justice, and began tackling him. Boris continued to flail about on his back until he got enough momentum to leap up and sprint off across the yard and through the tunnel. Boris had all of his friends on his tail so he continued to do lap after lap after lap. He finally got tired and leaped in the pool with his friend Dougie where he cooled off and caught his breath. Meanwhile Tasha made her way to Kyah, where they hung out by my side enjoying some attention.

Dougie is an absolute joy to have. He is so full of positive energy, making his company very enjoyable. We started our morning off with a nice trail walk accomanied by his two friends Gracie and Sammy. Dougie was much more focused on all the scents under his nose and paws rather than the other dogs. He motored along the trail with his nose down to the ground, stopping whenever he picked up a really good smell. Each time he smelled something appealing I would have to wait a couple moments for him to get a really good sniff before he carried on. He would then bolt to the end of the leash so that he was as far ahead as possible. In the yard today Dougie was so fascinated by all the huskies he was in a group with. It was him and all huskies! He definetly thought he fit right in, contrary to his appearance. He really enjoyed watching them play rough, wrestling around. Every once in a while he would leap right in the middle of the action, then sprint off looking for a chase. A couple times his friend Justice would zoom after him and they would do numerous laps around the yard. After he was tired out he headed over to the kiddie pool where he waded about to cool off.

Issy kept herself very busy today, as usual. She was in a group with some energetic pups today, who tried very hard to get her involved in the fun. Issy wasn't too keen on giving in to their games. Finnigan tried numerous times to get her to chase him. He was play bowing at her, and then following her around the yard for quite some time. Issy finally turned around, play bowed to him, and then zoomed off across the yard over to the door to escape his young antics. She was then very happy to sniff and explore the small dog yard. When the other dogs got playing again she headed into the grass yard where she wandered around supervising their games. Mocha is always more interested in the small dog yard since there are many scents in this yard that she has not encountered. She keeps herself very busy by sniffing the entire yard for the majority of outdoor time. Every once in a while she will pop over to visit me and sit at my feet looking for pets and cuddles. Of course, Mocha  gets what she wants, and recieves a bunch of hugs and kisses.

Finnigan was very excited to get here and head right into his kennel where he gobbled up his breakfast. He was very keen to get hooked up to a leash and dart out the door for his walk. Finnigan kept Alyssa very busy on their walk, zipping in circles around her darting through the long grass. He enjoyed a brief nap before his group outing. The moment Finnigan got in the yard he spotted Harvey, a young airdale, and bee-lined for him. They began romping around, playing like the silly boys they are. They were both so goofy, mouthing one another in slow motion. After some wrestling and boxing, Finnigan took off across the yard looking for a chase. Harvey tried his best to keep up to Finnigan but was quickly out run. Finnigan was quickly distracted by a frisbee laying on the floor and spent a good chunk of time trying to pick it up. It gives me a good laugh every time I watch a dog try to pick a frisbee up off the ground. Once Finnigan finally got ahold of the Frisbee, he suddenly became the most popular dog in the group. Next thing I knew, almost all the dogs were zooming after him trying to get his prized posession. After a couple laps around the yard he lost his grip and dropped it. His friend Percy snatched it, so Finnigan headed for the pool where he got a gulp of water and cooled his paws off.

Percy is always so excited to get here in the morning. He darts down the hall, knowing exactly where he is headed. He is a very patient boy waiting for his walk, but the moment he sees the leashes he gets so excited. He had a good time trotting along the trail with his friends, exploring in the long grass and sniffing all the traces of all the other dogs. In the yard today it took Percy a little while to find a friend friend to play with. When he finally spotted Finnigan running around with a frisbee, his day was made. He was quick to dart over to Finnigan's side and chase after him. Lucky for Percy, Finnigan lost his grip and dropped the Frisbee, leaving it on the grass for Percy to pick up. When Percy got it he began dancign in circles around the yard showing off his toy to all his playmates. Once he was tired out from all the running, he headed for the pool where he started his usual shenaningans. He began digging and digging in the pool, sending water flying everywhere. He got half his playmates soaked, along with me! Luckily it was a warm day so the splash of cool water felt pretty nice.

Harvey absolutely adores his time here. He has got to be one of the happiest little guys around. He knows exactly what his day will consist of when he arrives in the morning, and he can hardly wait to get the day underway. He sure keeps everyone busy during walk time since he loves to bounce through the long grass and dance around with his friends. Luckily his morning walk tires him out for a little bit, keeping him calm until his group time. The moment he got in the yard today he spotted Finnigan across the yard and bounced his way over to him. He immedately began pawing at him and playbowing. These two were so cute romping around in the grass, mouthing one another and slowly wrestling. It wasn't long before Glory the bloodhoud spotted Harvey and slowly made her way over to him. Harvey was instantly intrigued by the magnifecent Glory and drew all his attention to her. He was a bit flirty with her, but also pretty goofy trying to get her to play. She finally gave in to him and these two began boxing and wrestling, sending their puppy-like body parts flying all over one another. Their lack of co-ordination when it comes to playing was actually pretty cute. Harvey was definetely tired when it was time to come in and he conked out in his kennel until his next group outing.

Lola and Pearl were happy to be back for daycare especially since today is Lola’s birthday. As soon as they got outside Pearl got right to exploring alongside the building. Lola made her way further into the yard then paused to watch Pearl. Penny was curious about what Pearl was looking at and went over to join her. I made my way over to spend a little time with Lola. She was happy to get some pets. Lola then wandered off to take up a position in a central location so she could see everything going on in the yard. Pearl finished up with the building and proceeded to explore around the main yard. After a quick tour it was time to make her way out to the far yard. Her nose barely left the ground. Eventually Pearl seemed to realize there were other dogs out there and went to see what they were up to. With that done, she put her nose back to the ground and set off. Miko then pounced on her wanting very much to play with her. Pearl humoured him for a little while and they had some fun wrestling. She then left him and went back to her explorations. Back in the main yard, Lola had given up her watching spot to say hello to Jake and Bella and see how they were doing. After Jake left Bella and Lola continued to hang out together for the next little while. I headed over to spend some more time with Lola. She was quick to meet me and was more than happy to be getting even more pets and cuddles. Pearl made her way back to the main yard to check in with Lola, she was quick to return to her explorations. After a little more exploring Pearl finally decided it was her turn for lots of pets and cuddles. When she’d had enough she went to go and sit with Lola and Bella.

Penny and Pippin were quick to put their noses to the ground and set off in search of something exciting. They then stopped and backtracked to say hi to me. Penny then noticed Pearl checking something out by the building and had to go over and join her. Pippin didn’t waste any time in making her way out to the far yard. She headed right for one of the big rocks and got down to thoroughly checking it over. Penny eventually made her way out to the far yard and set out to do some more exploring. She then spotted me and came running over to demand some more pets. Pippin left the rock and got down to checking out more of the yard. Penny left me to head off to join her sister, when she was stopped by Miko. He play bowed and bounced around. Penny wasn’t quite sure what to do with him and so left him to join Pippin. The two of them ended up making their way back out to the main yard where the rest of the group had all gathered. Pippin decided to go and spend some time with Bella and Lola while Penny tagged along after Jake and Merlin. It wasn’t long before they were right back to exploring. Pippin then became aware of Merlin and Jake playing. She had a bit of a thing for Merlin today and was determined to be involved in something with him. When Pippin didn’t have much luck joining on the fun she headed out to do some more exploring. Penny headed back my way for some more pets. After some cuddles she went to continued exploring, when once again she found herself being asked to play by Miko. In the end Penny and Pippin decided to go running around with him.

Miko was full of energy and ready to burn it off. He took off around the main yard checking in on what everyone was up to and seeing if anyone might want to play. Miko met up with Merlin and was determined to play with him. They made their way into the far yard. Miko went racing off once more. When Merlin didn’t follow Miko decided to see what Pippin was looking at by the big rock and then ran and pounced on Pearl. The two of them had some fun wrestling, until Miko felt the urge to run once more. He went tearing around the yard and back into the main yard. Miko ran around for a while longer, he then noticed Lola getting some pets and decided he’d rather like some as well. Miko was quite happy to take a little break and getting some love. Feeling extra refreshed, he went racing off once more. Miko stopped to throw himself to the ground and have a bit of a roll. He then ran off to try and dig in the hole, I say try because I had to tell him he wasn’t allowed to. After the hole Miko went and found himself a bone. He then settled down to have a nice little chew on it, but it didn’t last long. Soon Miko was back on his feet wanting Penny to play with him. When he didn’t have much luck he switched his focus to Merlin. The two of them had blast wrestling and racing around.

Merlin was happy to be back. He was quick to launch himself at me for some attention. That out of the way Merlin went running off to do some exploring. Merlin met up with Miko and Bella and the three of them made their way out to the far yard. Miko went running off, but Merlin decided to stick with exploring for the time being. It wasn’t long before Merlin was ready to play. He turned to Jake and started to whine and wiggle. Jake was a little confused about what he wanted at first, but soon they were running around. They ended up racing out to the main yard to check on Bella. That done they went racing back to the far yard when Merlin met up with Miko. Merlin chased after him until he spotted me. He proceeded to then launch himself at me once more, for some love and attention. Jake followed him over and was soon asking Merlin to play some more. Their antics caught Pippin’s eye, who headed over to see about maybe joining in. While he was playing Merlin became aware that I was petting other dogs. Not wanting to miss out, he came and wiggled his way as close as possible to demand more pets. When he’d eventually had enough Merlin set out to do a little more exploring. After a little while he was approached by Miko, who very much wanted to play. It wasn’t long before the two of them were having a great time wrestling and running around.

Bella and Jake were quick to start bouncing around my legs wanting pets and attention. Once they‘d gotten what they wanted the two of them headed off towards the far yard. Bella paused just before the gate to see what Merlin and Miko were looking at. She then entered the yard with the other two. Bella and Jake were quick to put their noses to the ground and set off around the yard seeing what all they might find. Jake soon found himself being asked to play by Merlin. He wasn’t quite sure what he wanted to do, but quickly decided it was time to play. Bella, having apparently seen all she wanted to see, made her way back to the main yard. Jake and Merlin ran around the far yard until Jake realized Bella had left. They went running out to check in on Bella and found her hanging out with Lola. Satisfied she was fine Jake went running off with Merlin once more. They threw in a little wrestling to keep it exciting. Soon they Jake and Merlin found themselves being watched by Pippin. They continued to play and have a great time together. After a little while Jake went running back to Bella with Merlin tagging along. Jake decided to take a break from playing with Merlin to spend some time exploring with Bella. They went all around the yard together checking out anything that caught their interest. Jake was soon approached by Miko, wanting to play. Before Jake could really decide if he wanted to Merlin appeared and went running off with Miko so Jake tagged along. Bella hung back in the main yard to spend some time hanging out with Lola and Pearl. Towards the end of group Bella and Jake were hit with the zoomies and went tearing off around the yard together.

Kai is such a funny girl. She is always so excited to get out for her walk first thing in the morning, and for the most part it’s because she wanted to roll in the tall grass. When we head out to the yard she typically doesn’t roll around because the grass just isn’t to her liking. Kai started her morning by making her way out to the far part of the yard. She immediately set out to exploring her immediate vicinity. Kai then spotted me watching her and decide to make her way over for a visit. After some pets she headed out to do some more exploring. Kai went all around the yard checking out everything along the fence line as well as anything that caught her attention in the dirt. She soon became fascinated by some noises on the other side of the fence. Kai and a few others spent some time trying to figure out what was going on. Eventually she lost interest and headed out to continue exploring the yard.

Sammy set out and immediately went around the yard checking to see if anything had changed. She went all around the yard with her nose to the ground determined to see every little thing. Once Sammy had seen everything she wanted to for the moment she decided to retreat to the quite area near the entrance and just spend some time hanging out. I headed over to have a little visit with her and convince her to come rejoin us in the yard. Sammy followed me when I headed back. Her attention was soon caught by the grassy area near the fence. After she had thorough checked it out Sammy set off to check out more when she found herself being checked over by Riley and Dragon. After returning the favour Sammy set out to continue her mission. She spotted some of the others staring intently out beyond the fence. Curious Sammy made her way over to check it out herself.

Gracie is such a happy girl. She always comes out with such a big smile on her face. After Gracie had said her hellos to the others and I, she was quick to do some exploring in the rocks along the fence. Once she had finished with those Gracie headed out to explore more of the yard and see what some of the others were up to. Gracie ended up making her way back to me for a quick pet before running off to see about getting Brenyn to play with her. It was so funny to watch as she rolled over a few feet away from Brenyn and just waited to see what she’d do. A few dogs ended up going over to see what Gracie was up to. That wasn’t really part of her plans so Gracie got up and came trotting back over to me for some more love. Some sounds on the other side of the fence soon caught Gracie and a couple others attention. They all stood so focused staring out beyond the fence trying to figure out what was going on. When the sounds faded away Gracie went trotting off around the yard.
