Training:

Rio was so eager to get out and do some training this afternoon. I started by taking her down the driveway on a structured walk. We practiced heeling and walking on a loose leash. I kept Rio's attention by frequently changing directions while we walked, as well as asking her to sit and/or lay down randomly along the way. Rio did a great job staying focused and only needed a couple of reminders to heel. Once she got the hang of it and was walking nicely by my side, I started to change my pace so that Rio would either have to speed up or slow down to keep up with me. Once we made it back down the driveway it was time for some recall work. Susan had another dog on a leash down on the other side of the driveway and this was a great distraction for Rio. She immediatley ran towards them, wanting to say hello. I called Rio over and she hesitated, but did come back to me. We did this lots more times until Rio's focus started to wander. We also practiced some of her basic commands, which are always fun!

Extra Attention:

Bella was so excited to head out for her extra attention time. We made our way out to the front yard where she got hooked up to the tie out. Bella headed out to do some exploring in the grass. I showed her the Frisbee, but Bella was very intent on checking out as much as she could of the front yard. I then pulled out the ball, which caught her attention much more effectively. I gave it a toss and she went chasing after it. Bella then decided to not pick it up and wander off to do some more exploring. Since it was rather warm out, we made out way back inside to cool off. Bella and I hung out in the front room trying out more toys and cuddling.

Reese is such a sweet boy. He was very happy to get out of his kennel for an extra outing today during his extra attention time. He ran down the hall and came outside with me on the long line in the front yard. He wandered around on it for a little bit with his head looking up in the sky the entire time. Whenever a bug flew around his face he would jump up and try to catch it in his mouth; I’m pretty sure he caught a few too! I showed him some crackers and he sat for me each time without hesitation. I even got him to stay in one place as I backed away before I called him to come over to me. Inside we showed him lots of love as he hung out with us; it was hard for him to sit still as he went from person to person, but he loved to get cuddles and gave me the odd kiss or two.

Groups:

Rio met up with Charlotte as soon as they got out the door. From that moment on they were off wrestling, even while they were running around they were still going strong. Rio and Charlotte went running out to the far yard where there was a little more space for their antics. After a while longer of wrestling Rio decided it was time to run and took off around the yard. They went tearing all over the far yard before making their way back to the main yard. Rio and Charlotte ended up in the shady section and decided this was a much better place to wrestle. Once they felt a little bit cooler they were back to tearing around the far yard.

Pippin E. seemed pretty happy to be back and out with the other small dogs. He made his way out to the yard to see what was going on. Pippin then made his way back to me for some loving. Once he’d had enough pets he went trotting off to see what Rio and Charlotte were up to in the far yard. Pippin quickly decided he'd rather opt out of the wrestling and so came back over for some more love. Needing to check on more of the yard, Pippin went trotting off to do just that. He ended up back in the main yard where he was happy to do his explorations in the shade. After a little while he was joined by Rio and Charlotte who were still wrestling. Pippin went over and gave them a once over, but once again decided against joining in on the rough and tumble play. After the crazy girls moved on, Pippin went to see what Penny and the other Pippin were up to. With his curiosity satisfied he headed back my way for even more pets. We headed back out to the far yard. Pippin ended up meeting up with Riley and took quite a liking to him. He proceeded to follow Riley around for the rest of group time.

Penny and Pippin were quick to set out and see what was going on in the yard today. Pippin was quite curious as to what Rio and Charlotte were up to and spent some time watching them. Penny did a little exploring before she turned around and came to get some pets from me. Once she was satisfied she went trotting off to join Pippin, who was now looking at something by the fence. When Penny and Pippin had finished with that section of fence they made their way into the far yard to continue on the other side. The girls noticed me watching them so with their tails wagging they came over for some pets. Penny’s attention was caught by Rio and Charlotte. She went trotting over to see what they were up to. When Penny almost got run over, she figured it was better to hang out back by me. Needing to cool off, we headed over to the shady section. We weren’t alone long and soon had Pippin E, Rio and Charlotte join us. Penny, Pippin and Pippin E all met up and spent some time seeing how each other were doing. With that done, Penny and Pippin trotted back out to the sunshine to continue their explorations.

Duke went trotting out to the agility yard and immediately set out to see what everyone was up to. Once he’d established that he headed off to do some exploring around the yard. While Duke was going around, Shyla made her way over and joined him. The two of them then wandered around the yard checking out anything that caught their attention. Eventually Shyla left him, but Duke was content to continue exploring on his own. After a little while he was once more joined by Shyla. After a little more exploring, Duke made his way over to me for some pets. Noticing the pool nearby, Duke went over to check it out. I tried to convince him to hop in, but he wasn’t too sure about the water. Bella went over to see what he was up to. The two of them then spent some time checking one another over. When he was done, Duke headed out to do some more exploring. A little while later Shyla and Bella started to race around. Duke, not wanting to miss out on the action, went tearing after them. It wasn’t long before everyone needed a breather, so Duke headed off to do some more exploring. He soon found himself a nice toy that he was quite happy to toss around for himself.

Maverick and Shyla were quick to got trotting out and start checking out the yard. Shyla noticed Duke exploring by himself over by the main building. She decided to make her way over and join him. Maverick watched as Shyla went her own way, but continued on with his explorations. Shyla did eventually leave Duke when she went trotting around the yard checking on the rest of the group before meeting back up with Maverick. Maverick was loving the shady section of the yard and went over to relax for a bit. Shyla then decided to head back to see what Duke was looking at now. Not too long after that, Shyla was hit with the zoomies and wanted to play. She started to play bow and spin around, having a great time. Her antics caught Bella’s attention. It wasn’t long before they were off ripping around the yard with Duke tagging along. They raced past Maverick and he couldn’t resist joining in. The running soon came to an end when Shyla, Maverick, Bella, and Duke all became absorbed in a rather interesting section of the yard. After thoroughly checking it out, Maverick headed back to his shady section and Shyla went back to exploring around the yard. I headed over to have a visit with Maverick in the shade. He was more than happy to get some pets and cuddles. It wasn’t long before Shyla decided to make her way over and join us.

Bella started her group time checking what the other dogs were up to. She quickly became aware of Charlie in the pool and made a beeline over to him. After saying their hellos Bella was quick to hop in and join him in the pool. When she was sufficiently wet, Bella hopped out and headed off to do some exploring. Along the way she met up back up with Charlie. The two of them then went trotting off to the pool together and hopped in. They proceeded to have some great lab fun in the pool. Charlie ended up hopping out to see what some of the others were up to, so Bella headed off to do some more exploring. Bella ended up making her way back to the pool when she noticed Duke checking it out. After say hi and seeing how he was doing, Bella became distracted by Shyla who was bouncing around nearby. It wasn’t long before Bella and Shyla were off racing around the yard while Duke tagged along. The running came to a stop when everyone became fascinated in a particular spot of grass. They spent quite some time with their heads together checking it over. Once it had been thoroughly investigated, Bella headed off to check out more of the yard. It wasn’t long before Bella was back in the pool with Charlie.

Hobart and Kimi were both taking it easy and having some fun during their group outside this morning. It was pretty warm out for these two with their thick coats, so they did a quick lap of the yard before heading to the shade for a little bit. It didn't last too long, though, and Kimi ran out to the middle of the yard with so much energy. She’s really playful sometimes and when I saw her chase all of the others down the hallway and out the door I knew that she’d be running all around the yard with them. When they all got outside she slowed down almost immediately and started to wander around the agility yard as Hobart followed close behind. She walked around the entire time until she saw me throw a rope toy for one of the dogs and as they chased after it, she scurried over to try and get to it first. The first time she didn’t make it but when I threw it a second time later on, she jumped over to it and sniffed it as the other dog ran over to steal it back from her. Hobart  trotted out behind everyone and started to sniff all of the tall plants along the fence. He loves to search through the grass and sniff out whatever is there; he loves to let his nose be his guide. When he was done exploring, this man walked back over to the door to lay in the shade for a while before it was time to go back inside. Lucky for him Kimi joined him at one point and he was happy for her company.

Percy and Teddy are always so much fun when they’re both here together during the day for daycare. Teddy absolutely loves Percy and ends up following him around everywhere. Today Percy and Teddy both ran out the door with so much excitement. Percy stopped when he got to the middle of the yard to begin sniffing around while Teddy didn’t stop at all; he kept running as fast as he could and when he reached the fence he turned back around and began to run in circles. Percy explored along the fence and kept trying to dig his nose in deeper and deeper until he reached the dirt and started to paw at it. You could tell he was thinking about digging but never ended up starting to. When he was done sniffing around and doing his business, he all of a sudden ran over with a big grin on his face to check out the pool. Teddy stopped what he was doing and ran over to see Percy right away. He began to jump up onto his back to try and get him to wrestle. Percy stood there unsure of what to do then took off to go back to the pool. Teddy followed him again and waited on the outside of the pool while Percy jumped in with his toy. Teddy began to get so excited, waiting for him that he decided to keep running around the pool in circles until Percy jumped back out. But Percy was having way too much fun and began to dig at the bottom of the kiddie pool as if he could reach the ground.

Spencer had a very nice day outside today. He ran out the door and chased after Teddy as soon as he saw him. He was such a happy boy and bounced around Teddy a few times before Teddy took off to go and see Percy. Spencer took this as an opportunity to head over to all of the long grass on his own to explore and sniff. He glided through the grass with his nose to the ground to wander around some more. I called him over to me as I was sitting on a rock and he lifted his head up so quickly that all of his hair blew in the wind. He played with Teddy at one point when they were around each other. Spencer was sitting in the agility tunnel as Teddy ran over and started to circle around that too as he was trying to get out. Once he did he bolted over to the smaller builders then ran back to the door with Teddy on his heels.

Issy and Mocha spent their day relaxing in the staff room accompanied by their favorite girl, Merida. Mocha was so excited when I was letting her and Issy out on their walk that she couldn’t stop barking. Walks are always her favourite part of the day! She just had so much energy and excitement inside of her that she had to go outside and run along the trail. As we started to walk though she slowed down to sniff the grass. When we went back inside, she and Issy both drank lots of water before laying down to relax. During their group they both ran out into the yard and wandered over to the grass section after they followed me and opened the gate for them to go in. Issy hopped over the bottom of the gate and ran around the yard. She socialized a bit with the other dogs as they were playing. She would walk up and sniff them a bit as they bounced around her. Mocha didn’t go that far and stayed in the gravel yard. She made sure to walk over to wear I could see her and took a seat in the sun.

Reese was such a happy boy outside. He trotted out the door and made his way to the middle of the grass yard where all of the dogs started to join him. Everyone in his new group was very excited to meet him! Reese was a little shy at first but he stood there as calm as could be could as all of the other dogs said their hellos. Once the introductions were finished, Reese made his way over to hang out with me. I pet him for a little while but this boy was very interested in all of the little nooks and crannies of his surroundings. He followed his nose all around, from the rocks, to the grass, to the fence and finally back to me. When Reese saw me sit down at the picnic table, he couldn't help but to come back over for some more pets and attention. He sat happily with myself and another dog for a little while in the shade before heading back inside.
