Training

I had the chance to work with Rio for the first time today and she sure is a smart cookie! We headed up front to the reception area and I called her over to get a leash on and she came trotting over and sat right in front of me. Once her leash was on we headed out front to do a short structured walk which she did fantastic with. She stayed by my side with only a few reminders and we did some quick turns to keep her focused on me. After that we went to the grass to practice some recall, sits, downs and stays. Rio's recall is getting better and better all the time. We did some fun puppy sit ups which she did quickly and consistently. Those are easy treats. We then practiced a little stay which she got the hang of pretty quickly each time I took an extra step back. Her focus started to dwindle towards the end so we headed back inside to relax and spend some time up front together. Rio found an awesome bone that she chased around until she found the perfect spot to lay and chew on it.

Groups

Kai was the first to make her way out to the agility yard. She headed right for the far part of the yard and started to explore in all the freshly cut grass. I called her over for some attention. Kai was quick to head over and get a couple pets,  but became distracted by something a little ways away. Needing to check it out, Kai left me to do just that. Once it had been thorough investigated she spent some time just watching what the others were up to. When nothing really caught her interest she went trotting over to check out the tunnel. While Kai was over there she was joined by Fergus. He took a liking to her and tried to get her to play. For the moment Kai wasn't interested and so left him to run through the tunnel. When Fergus went to roam the yard Kai decided to tag along after him and do a little exploring together. Kai didn't stay with him long and was soon off doing her own thing. Her journeys eventually brought her back to me. Kai planted herself at my side and asked for some pets and love. We made our way over to the pool. Kai got her feet wet but just enough to cool off. Fergus reappeared at her side and when he asked her to play once more Kai was much more willing.

Fergus slowly made his way out to the agility yard. He kept stopping to check out anything that caught his attention. After checking out one of the big rocks near the entrance, Fergus headed out to tour more of the yard. He spent some time watching the others until he spotted Kai over by the tunnel. Fergus quickly made his way over to say hi and see if maybe she might be interested in playing. She wasn't, but she tagged along when he headed off to do some more exploring. Fergus eventually went his own way and continued checking out whatever caught his attention. He took a break to have a little visit with me, but was soon back to exploring. Fergus's attention was once more captured by Kai. He went trotting over to see if maybe she had changed her mind and wanted to play now. Fergus pawed her and play bowed and pretty soon she was bouncing around with him. The two of them then had a great time together.

Rio is always so happy to be here. As soon as we got outside she started to bounce around my legs wanting me to play attention to her. After Rio had gotten some pets she took off running further into the yard. She noticed Pippin with her nose to the ground checking things out and decided it might be fun to tag along after her. Rio toured around with Pippin until I showed her the rope toy. She got all excited for me to throw it. When I let it loose Rio went bouncing after it, but instead of picking it up she veered off back to Pippin. When Pippin didn't want to play Rio decided to see what the other dogs were up to. She spent her time alternating between exploring and dog watching. Rio then spotted Flora rolling around in the grass. Curious, she went over to see what was up. Pretty soon it turned into Rio play bowing to Flora which then turned into the two of them racing around.

Pippin was quick to go trotting out to the far yard to start exploring out there. Penny was on her way to follow her sister, when she spotted the pool that was in the process of filling. She spent some time watching it, but in the end decided not to get in. Back in the far yard Pippin found herself being followed around by Rio. She didn't seem to mind too much, though Pippin wasn't quite ready to play. Penny eventually left the pool to head out to join Pippin in the far yard. She did some exploring in the grass and checked on what the others were looking at. Penny then spotted me with Toby, who was getting lots of pets. She was quick to make her way over wiggling the whole time. Penny was quite happy to get lots of pets and scratches. Once she'd had enough she took a couple steps away to continue exploring. Pippin was next to make her way over wondering what we were up to. She found Toby quite fascinating and spent a while checking him over. Penny and Pippin then headed off together to do some more exploring.

Tsavo and Cai were both quite excited to get outside for their group time. They took off running around the yard checking out what the others were up to. When Tsavo and Cai were done with that they met up and did a little exploring together. The two of them moved around the yard checking out anything that caught their interest. At one point they noticed me and came running over for some pets. It wasn't too long after that that Tsavo decided she'd rather like to play with Justice. Cai, not wanting to be left out of the fun, tagged along. Cai was quick to come back for more pets and attention. Tsavo came running over to us and pounced on her brother. Soon the two of them were having fun wrestling while Sky sat and watched. Eventually they needed a breather and split up to do some more exploring. Tsavo then met up with Justice and went walk around with him. Cai ended up  back at my side wanting even more love. Tsavo and Cai met up to wrestle some more before Tsavo headed over to cool off in the pool.

Kimi decided to have a quiet day and spent most of her time exploring the yard with the company of her friends Ricky and Wally. After giving all of the dogs a good sniff, Kimi headed out to the grass yard to see if she could dig up anything interesting. She seemed to like the long grass by the fence and spent some time munching on in while watching some of her group run around. In between her adventures, she made sure to stop by and get her fair share of cuddles from me. Once Kimi had her fill of exploration, she made her way back to the shade where Ricky was lounging. She decided to hang out with him for a bit where it was nice and cool. They sniffed around the building and were very interested in the picnic table. I walked over to see what they were up to and Kimi trotted over to say hello. She followed me around for a bit and soaked up all of the attention she could get her paws on. Then she, Ricky and Wally wandered over to the pool for a drink, before they continued to investigate the yard.

Teddy was bursting with energy as usual, and could hardly wait to get walking with his friends Duke and Tucker. He made sure that the other two kept up a good pace on the walk and didn’t let anyone drag behind. Teddy had a great time tunneling through the long grass beside the trail. After walks, when it was his turn to play outside with his group, he met up with Percy and Spencer to give the yard a good sniff. He soon decided that he was in the mood to play, although the other dogs were still busy smelling the grass, so Teddy entertained himself by sprinting around the yard and dodging the rocks, the tunnel and the agility yard. Eventually he headed over to Spencer and pounced on him. This sparked a brief game of chase. When Spencer wandered away, Teddy found Percy and started playing with him instead. Percy made a beeline for the tunnel while Teddy raced around it. Spencer, not wanting to be left out, soon jumped back into the action.

Percy was very excited for groups this morning. He trotted over to give me a quick hello with his bum wagging and then raced into the grass yard with his friends. Percy busied himself by thoroughly sniffing all of the rocks and the tunnel. I found a big rope toy and waved it around to catch his attention. Percy immediately came flying over and could hardly sit still while he waited for me to throw it. He went sailing through the air after it and made quite a few decent attempts at catching it; unfortunately it was a little bit too big and heavy for him to grab out of the air. Regardless, he didn’t let that stop him from having a great time playing. We headed over to the pool to cool down and Percy jumped right in. He started splashing around and completely drenched the other dogs and I. Once everyone was soaked, Percy hopped back out and went running to the tunnel. He ran back and forth through it while Teddy sprinted laps around him, and soon Spencer joined in to play with them also.

Spencer is such a cutie. He gave me lots of slobbery kisses in the yard, in exchange for cuddles, and was delighted to see all of the other dogs as well. After saying hello to everyone, Spencer went racing to the yard with a few friends by his side and set out to explore. His nose was certainly working hard to pick up any interesting scents. He eventually saw all he wanted to see, so Spencer decided that he would rather play instead. He pounced on Wally, who was a bit surprised, and politely declined Spencer’s offer. Not to be discouraged, Spencer went on a hunt to find someone else to play with. Soon he bumped into Teddy, who also happened to be looking for a playmate. Teddy jumped on Spencer and Spencer jumped right back. Suddenly they both went racing across the yard. After a good run with Teddy, Spencer wandered over to the pool for a drink. He sniffed around with Riley for a bit and then went hurrying back to Teddy when he saw that his friend was playing with someone else. He bolted through the tunnel, surprised Teddy and Percy on the other side, and was soon running around with the both of them.

Riley had a relaxed day and he certainly enjoyed the perfect weather. He gave everyone in his group a quick sniff, and then wandered over to the grass with Glory. The two of them soon parted ways as they both picked up a different scent. Riley followed his nose to the fence, where he spent some time exploring – and eating – the grass. I stopped by to give him some attention and Riley was delighted to cuddle with me. He got a nice backrub and then offered me a lick on the nose in return. Some action on the other side of the yard caught his attention, and Riley trotted over to see what his friends were getting up to. He saw Percy running through the tunnel and decided to stick his head inside. It wasn’t as exciting as Riley had expected, so he soon moved on. He and I made our way to the pool, where Riley had a big drink and then stepped right in to cool down his feet. After he had enough of the water, we went over to the shady area besides the building, where he settled down for a nap with the company of Kimi, Ricky and Wally.

Issy and Mocha were in the mood for attention today. After a walk in the morning, they spent some time lounging in the staff room with their friend Merida. Mocha was so comfy it took a bit of persuading to get her up and outside. Once the girls were out in the yard, they both headed off to explore and see if there was anything interesting for them to smell. Issy gave her friend Trooper a quick hello and then made her way to the grassy yard. She seemed quite fascinated by the tunnel. Mocha decided to sit directly on my feet while we watched Issy sniff around. The girls then headed to the shade, where Issy found the picnic table. I sat down to give Mocha some attention and soon Issy had jumped up on the table also, and was looking over my shoulder. Mocha sat beside my feet and rested her head on my legs while I was petting her. Issy lay right down on top of the table. I rubbed behind her ears, and she attempted to sprawl out so I could give her a belly scratch. This resulted in Issy almost but not quite falling off of the table. The two of them were enjoying the nice weather so much that they didn’t want to come inside right away.
