Boy does Ripley ever take after her daddy, Tycho! She absolutely loves to play with anyone who will join her in just about any game. Ripley was part of the most playful group today, and she took full advantage. She, Magic and Finnigan did a few quick laps of all the yards to get warmed up for some wrestling. The three stopped in the agility yard in a three-way stand off, each waiting for the other to make the first move. Eventually, Finnigan pounced towards Ripley, but she was too quick and darted around the boulder and off into the yard. Finnigan and Magic took off running after Ripley, and they chased each other around the yards a few more times. As Ripley bounced back into the agility yard, she noticed that I was playing fetch with some of the other dogs and decided to come and join us. She wasn't after the ball itself, though, but she had lots of fun running back and forth with her group.
I brought an armful of new toys out into the yard this morning, and Molly couldn't have been happier. I tossed a ball and a couple of squeaky things and Molly pounced for the squeakers. She managed to pick up two toys in her mouth at once and it was so cute! She walked around with her head held high, showing off for everyone. I tried to get a picture but before I could, Molly had put the squeakies down and found herself a tennis ball. As Molly marched away with her ball, Jack came over to see what all the fuss was about. I knelt down to give him some love and he was so enthusiastic that he almost bowled me right over! I sat down and got a face full of lovely, sloppy kisses from Jack, and gave him some bum and back scratches in return. We got up together to greet the rest of the group. Molly trotted back over to us, still carrying her tennis ball, and dropped it at my feet. Both Molly and Jack's eyes lit right up as I picked the ball up and got ready to throw it. I threw it as hard as I could, and off they went! Jack let Molly catch the ball each time I threw it, but he didn't seem to mind. He was having a ton of fun just running around and playing with his sister. Towards the end of group time, Jack and Molly were joined by a few other dogs in their game of fetch, and Molly still managed to get a hold of the ball every single time!
Sadie went for her walk this morning with her daycare friend, Bella. The girls walked together with Tayler, and it put Sadie in the mood for some fast paced play during group time. She was happy to see Magic, who was already in the yard, and Sadie took off running in her direction. The girls bumped into each other playfully, which prompted a few quick laps around the yard. As Sadie ran, she dipped into the tunnel to throw Magic off her trail, and it fooled her each time! Sadie kept the lead in their chase, using her clever calculations of the yard to her advantage. As she popped out of the tunnel, Sadie noticed Susan standing off to the side and decided to have a snuggle visit with her for a little while. Soon enough, though, Sadie caught a glimpse of the rest of the group playing fetch and raced over to join in until it was time to head inside.
I could tell right away that Macie was feeling frisky today as we walked out of the yard and onto the trail. If Macie is feeling casual, she tends to walk behind, taking her time and sniffing around. Today, though, she was right at the end of her leash, next to Justice, and happy to keep a quick pace. We made it around the loop in record time, and Macie had a little rest time before we headed back out for group. Justice bolted out the door and into the yard, and Macie followed suit. I hardly saw them before they were around the corner and in the agility yard. When I caught up, Macie and Justice were sniffing around the boulders and catching their breath. I grabbed a tennis ball and threw it to get Macie's attention. She chased after it and brought it back maybe two or three times before deciding that she wanted to hold onto it for a while. For the rest of group time, Macie sniffed, roamed, and played with Justice, all the while hanging on to that ball!
Rupert was thrilled to check out all of the new toys in the yard during group today. He loves his toys, so he took a turn to toss each one around until he found a favourite. It took three tries to pick the best option, which was the tennis ball. He wanted me to throw it for him very badly, but since he needs to be careful with his sore shoulder, I rolled it to him instead. He didn't seem to mind the slower pace, and trotted away after the ball each time. We played together with the ball for a good part of group time, until we decided on a little change of scenery. Rupert followed, with his ball of course, out to the main yard. He spent a little while wandering along the fence, sniffing along with the ball still in his mouth. I interrupted Rupert's explorations only to give him some snuggles and pets, which he was happy to accept.
Casey and Kelly started their day with a casual and relaxing walk with Magic, the husky. Magic led the way for Casey and Kelly, who stopped periodically to sniff the trees and any interesting footprints. Later, during group time, Casey and I sat together to watch the others as they roamed the yard. She watched as I played with Rupert, and was happy to sit on the sidelines and cheer. Kelly had been sniffing around the fence when she saw Rupert enjoying his toy. She came over to say hello and to see what all of the fuss was about, which gave her a case of the zoomies! Kelly galloped around Rupert, Casey and I, so I started to jump along with her. Casey watched as Kelly and I did a couple of bouncy circles around the back part of the yard, and Kelly seemed to love it! When she was ready for a break, I knelt down to give Casey and Kelly some love, and Casey gave me lots of sloppy kisses. They're such a sweet and gentle pair!
Love was in the air during Maverick's group this morning. He and Bella were stuck together like glue, following each other around everywhere! If the other dogs were running or wrestling, Maverick and Bella would join in for a moment or two, but always paired off to play together. They spent a little while sniffing around the same area of the yard by the lounge, and then either Maverick or Bella would paw the other playfully, and off they'd go! They danced around, looking almost like they were hugging as they jumped around. It was soo cute! Shyla noticed that Maverick and Bella had made a connection, and ventured over to say hello. Shyla spent a few minutes with Bella and Maverick before taking off running after the rest of the group. Kane, Isis and Scarlett ran like the wind out of the gate into the main yard, and Shyla just had to follow! She beelined for the group and bounced around with Scarlett, who was at the back of the group. The girls cheered on Kane and Isis as they wrestled, and Shyla pounced alongside them. She was happy to watch and follow the other dogs during the rough and tumble games, though she did zoom around with Scarlett here and there on the sidelines.
Cats
Ziggy and Bandit were each in a snuggly spot in the cat tree when I came in to see them this afternoon. Chief was up in the hammock with his paws dangling and Ziggy was in the cubby, resting his chin on the edge. I scratched Ziggy's chin and he stretched out so I could reach better. Chief wanted some snuggles too so he jumped down from his perch and waited his turn at my feet. I gave Chief some scratches too and picked him up to put him by the window. He sat nicely and looked out into the sunny parking lot.
I opened up Missy's cubby to say hello and she was snuggled up like a little donut on her bed. She rolled onto her back so that I could pet her furry belly. When she decided she was done with snuggle time, Missy rolled back over into her donut position to resume her nap.
