Cattery

Chief and Drew are becoming good friends. When I walked into the cattery both of them were hanging out on the cat tree. As soon as he saw me, Drew hopped down so he could rub against my legs. That done he started roll around on the floor. Chief was happy to stay in his hammock and just stare at me till I pet him. I left them to go have a visit with Missy. It was apparently a little early for her because after a quick hello she curled up into a tighter ball to continue napping. A while later I walked past the cattery and found Chief and Drew hanging out in the windowsill together.

Groups

Apollo bounced at his kennel door, bursting with excitement as I approached. As he headed out the door, he snagged a toy from the hallway and carried it out into the yard to show it off. He eventually settled down to have a nice chew on his toy, casually watching the other dogs as they passed by. Oakley didn't seem to mind the cold today. She came and plopped herself down next to me so she could ask for some pets and attention. Apollo noticed Oakley getting lots of love, so made his way over to get some for himself. While he was there I figured we could start a game of fetch. I tossed the ball that Apollo had previously been chewing, and he went chasing after it, along with Cabot and Tupper. In the end Cabot was the first to catch the toy, but Apollo didn't seem to mind. He loves his toys but he knows where they're all hidden around the yard! Apollo then spent then next while plotting ways to get his toy back, while keeping an eye out for any hidden gems in the snow. Oakley eventually left my side to go and spend some time with Spencer. To my delight, Oakley and Spencer really hit it off, and before long they were bouncing around, playing together.

Scarlett is still loving being here. She was so excited to get outside with Chigo, Max, and Sadie. Pretty much as soon as they got out the four of them went charging off to play. Max and Sadie split off from the group to have a little wrestling match. Scarlett joined in with Max and Sadie, but eventually needed a break and decided to go sniffing with Chigo. Chigo seemed to have found something particularly interesting in the snow and stopped to give the area a thorough inspection. Meanwhile, Scarlett and Sadie noticed Chigo and made their way over to sniff around with him. It soon turned into all of them going around the yard with their noses to the ground. While the rest of the group were busy, Max took the opportunity to have some one-on-one time and snuggles with me until it was time to head in. Max loves the attention, but also loves being in the playroom! He raced up the hallway today to be the first one in, and he bounced around with Sadie and Scarlett for a while in the warmth.

The next group of the day were the little guys. Jake and Maya saw each other and seemed to remember each other immediately! They tore off across the yard and started to wrestle and have a great time without wasting a second. Taylor wouldn't leave my side until I had given her some attention and pets, so I obliged, of course, and she rolled over in the snow so I could pet her belly. Bella came over to see what she was up to and see about getting some pets for herself. After a moment of snuggles, Bella couldn't contain her excitement any longer and went running off. Meanwhile, on the other side of the yard, Apple and Sky were wandering casually around, taking in the smells and staying sheltered from the wind. Apple couldn't help but notice that Jake and Maya were having buckets of fun, so she took off and went to see about joining in. Apple bounced alongside Maya and Jake as they ran around the snowy boulders in the far yard. Sky never ventured too far from his sister, Apple, today. He stuck close by her as she danced around with the other dogs. Sky found a little bounce in his step and trotted around as well, trying his best to copy Apple's movements, while adding his 'commentary' to the playgroup.Taylor now satisfied with the amount of attention she had gotten went tearing off to see if someone would play with her. When it was time to take a break, Jake wandered into the far yard to do some exploring with Bella, while Maya said hellos to Apple and Sky. After her greeting, Maya hopped away into the far yard to see if she could join in Bella and Jake's sniffing expedition, while Apple and Sky came to greet me and to ask for some TLC.

Miko never seems to mind the cold when he's bundled up in his jacket. When we got outside, he ran around the yard, looking for someone to play with. He took a keen interest in Rhodri, the dachshund, and made it his mission to get Rhodri to play. Miko bounced and pounced around, hoping that Rhod would take the bait, and eventually he did! Rhodri ran around with Miko for a few minutes, but hehe needed a break and so came to see me for some love. Miko didn't mind, though, so he went running off to see what Maya and Jake were up to out in the far yard. While he was on his way, though, he found a tennis ball in the snow and spent the rest of group time enjoying it on his own.

The following group had an absolute blast during group today. Shyla and Maverick were so excited to get outside that they immediately started racing around, zipping through the agility yard gate and back again, trying to see everything and eveyone. Riley set out to do a little exploring first, but soon he was racing around as well. They all seemed to be on the same schedule, running together, pausing together, and sniffing together. Riley  veered away from the group of sniffers to come and say hello to me. I bent down to give him lots of love, but he met me halfway with a big wet kiss on the face! He saw the others starting to run around again, so he made sure to get in on the action. Riley and Maverick became best friends today, and they spent a lot of time wrestling together. At one point, Riley went tearing through the tunnel, which really threw Maverick for a loop. Maverick watched, amazed, as Riley disappeared through the tunnel and popped his head out the other end. Maverick watched Riley for another second before running up and resuming the wrestling match. Shyla watched Maverick distantly while she sniffed around and greeted the other dogs. She got very excited when Kinsey came out to join us in the yard, which prompted her to do a few running laps.

Boris is such a goofy guy, he can hardly contain himself when he realizes I'm coming to let him out for group! Tasha was a little more reserved today but seemed happy as well, following her son out into the yard. As soon as they got outside Boris went running up to Ricky to see if he was ready to play. Ricky opted to continue wandering the yard with. She and Ricky did a quick tour of the main yard before she stood to watch Boris try and find a playmate. Boris approached Ricky again, who was now ready to run! The boys took off into the agility yard, so I herded the group out to the agility yard so that we could watch. Boris and Ricky continued to run for a little while, before Boris decided to take a break and say hello to Tasha. Tasha was hanging out with Merida, so of course Boris asked her to play as well. Merida was happy just hanging out with Tasha, though, so Boris met back up with Ricky to have more fun. Tasha and Merida left the boys to it and followed their noses around the agility yard. Eventually, Tasha sat down to watch Boris and Ricky being silly.

The crazy daycare group was up next! Percy and Kaos were the firsts to burst into play-mode, while Issy, Mocha and Shenzi took their time to wander the yard. Percy and Kaos were having a ton of fun racing back and forth between the agility yard and the main yard, zipping past the independent explorers. Issy, Mocha and Shenzi didn't even seem to notice, though, and kept their noses to the ground looking for anything interesting. Percy did another lap of the yard, and this time Shenzi went racing after him as he passed by. Percy and Shenzi ran around for a little while together until Percy found himself a toy, and Shenzi decided to take a break and go back to her explorations. She soon found a bone buried in the snow, which was an excellent find by the look on her face! After a little bit of effort, she managed to free from the frozen ground and carried it away to find a comfortable spot to hang out. A little while I went out to check on Issy and Mocha. They were both still trotting around the main yard checking everything out. Shenzi and Kaos weren't too far behind me. Shenzi was excited to have more dogs to show her bone off to while Kaos chased her around. Percy was still having a ball racing around when he came across a different toy, which made his day! He paraded the toy around until it was time to head back inside.

Bennie was so excited to get outside today. As soon as he got out the door he went racing off to the agility yard. When Bennie got there, he paused to see if anyone was going to run with him. Everyone was very busy at that moment, though, but Bennie was content to do a few laps until the others were ready. Bennie took a bit of a break from running to go and see what Brokk was looking at, and then came to greet me. He bounced and play-bowed, asking me to play! I hopped around to get him moving, but I think Bennie was really plotting to steal my gloves! I gave him a rope toy instead, but Bennie saw Glory and Brokk and beelined towards them, where he joined their game. In the playroom, Bennie was excited when Kinsey came in to say hello. She brought some treats and ran around with the group until it was time to go take a break.

Macie is loving having Justice out in the yard with her! They started their morning off with a walk on the back trail together, where they sniffed each other and became friends. Macie of course wanted to sniff everything she could in the snow along the trail. She let Justice lead the way for the walk, making sure to take in all of the interesting smells that he missed. A little while later the headed out for their first group of the day. Macie was quick to start bouncing around with Justice, wanting him to play with her. It didn't take much convincing for Justice to take off running with Macie, and the pair let loose and ran around the yard. By the time the next group rolled around, Macie was happy to just explore in the yards with Justice at her side.

Tasha was quite happy to get extra attention time today. So much so that when Boris tried to steal me away she was quick to tell him that no all the love was for her and her alone.

A little later in the day it was time for Boris' training. I decided a change of scenery would be a good idea so we worked in the hallway where there were plenty of distractions. Boris was quite excited to get working but also wanted to check out the hall, which made it the perfect time to test his recall. I only had to call him once and while it wasn't immediate, he did respond after a moment, and I'm really quite impressed with him. With him now in working mode, we moved on to some 'sits' and 'downs'. Boris still wants to be lured into a down, but he's starting to get it quicker. We then did a little more recall work before we moved on to working on 'leave it'. I started with holding a treat in my hand and only rewarding him when he stopped trying to get it out of my hand and looked away. By the end he was looking away much quicker.
Tasha was quite happy to get extra attention time today. So much so that when Boris tried to steal me away she was quick to tell him to be patient and that all the love was for her and her alone seeing as he'd already had his turn! Tasha and I sat together in the kennel and I had her sit and lay down for all of her treats. This also helped Boris to focus on being patient and waiting his turn.

Max was quite excited to get out for training, he's always ready for anything! We did a little structured walking on our way to find some people to practice greeting. Max had been doing really well with his greetings, though we have yet to try to stay calm and focused without the use of treats. In saying that Max met someone holding their lunch and he was still more focused on me and sitting nicely while he got his reward. When we were all done working on his greetings, when went to work on his recall. Max is doing quite well with the 'come' command, and completes each one. I think the next step will be to take it to a more distracting environment and see how he does there.
