CATS
Missy had the cat room all to herself for the entire morning. She perched herself in the usual spot: on the window sill, watching the huge snowflakes fall from the sky. I think I even saw her bat at one of them that was near the window. The other spot she likes is the cubbie box in the cat tree. It is so snuggly in there - a perfect place for Missy to nap! After she went back to her bed, she nestled herself in her new blankets that were put in her condo this morning. She napped all day long and got to venture the room again later in the evening.
Chief and Ziggy were so playful today. Missy had the cat room for the morning and after 1, these two boys got to have the room and they were thrilled! I picked up Chief and held him close to me for a good cuddle. He was content staying in my arms, so I didn't bother to put him down for a while. We walked around the room, and looked out the window and checked out all the cool things in the cabinet. I put him down on the top of the cat tree and he stayed there, watching me. Ziggy made his way to the tree as well, as soon as his condo was opened. He sat on a level lower than Chief. The two of them were just sitting there, so I decided to grab a toy and liven things up! I swung the rope toy in front of both of them and they each batted it a bunch of times. Chief even latched onto it and held it in his paw for a few moments. After they'd had their fun with the toy, Chief went right for the scratch post and went crazy on it for a few seconds. Ziggy went right for the cubby hole and snuggled in there for a while.
GROUPS
Bandit has really come out of his shell since he first came to
Tails and Trails! Today was the first day he made it up to the playroom with his other friends wtihout too many hesitations along the way. He's much more confident walking down the hallway, maybe because he knows what fun awaits in the playroom. He was jumping up and down and wagging his tail, brushing into all his other doggy companions. He got to spend a good amount of time in there before heading back to his kennel. While he was outside, he spent some time with some familiar friends. His best friend that he's made so far is Ripley. They walked together again this morning, and spent every minute together in the yard afterwards. They bounced around each other on and off, and Ripley spent some time with Magic while Bandit was investigating the fence line, searching for interesting scents.
Ripley was even more playful today than yesterday! Even though her group was a little lower energy today, she still made the most of her time outside. She got Bandit to be her partner in crime today and these two were going at it for a long time, while the other dogs passed by and watched them play. While Bandit was occupied by his exploring, Ripley turned to Magic to have a little wrestling match. Magic was reluctant at first to play, but in the end she couldn't resist a good wrestle. These two girls are so cute together! Usually Ripley likes to use her play time outside strictly for playing, and to leave the cuddles for later when she is warm and cozy inside. Today I got her to come see me and then I smothered her in love and gave her good rub all down her back. She was loving it! Maybe she'll want some extra attention all the time from now on!
It was good to have little Charlee back with us for a fun day! He's such a cute little guy and he sure knows how to have fun! He began his day with his walk outside on the back trail. Charlee was in heaven, getting to sniff all the low brush and trot along the trail at his own pace. He was joined by Mac and Buddy, who is also in for daycare today. These two little guys got long great in the yard as well! Charlee likes to balance the time he spends playing outside, with an equal amount of attention and love from me. The first thing he did in the yard was introduce himself to Mac and Leo. After all his introductions were done, he began to make his way through the yard, inspecting the fence line. After he went through all the yards, he decided everything was in order and wandered over to me. I knelt down to see him and he curled right in where my legs were, letting me know that he would like a back rub, ASAP. Obviously he is too cute to resist, so I happily met all his demands, and rubbed his back and scratched behind his ears. After going through a cycle of exploring, and then cuddling a few times, it was time to head into the playroom. He got to spend some time in there with his new friends. All in all, it was a good day spent with Charlee!
Buddy had a really good first day! He got along great with the little dogs that are in. He took a real liking to Julie. He was so curious about her wheelchair when they were outside together. Julie likes to hop around everyone, getting them to play. Buddy wasn't sure what to make of Julie's playfulness, so he stood there for a second, staring at her. He gave her a sniff and then wandered away. Julie didn't mind that he wasn't ready to play, so she just wheeled herself over to the far yard. Buddy stayed in the close yard, and said hello to the rest of his new friends. He and Charlee shared a good sniff of each other, and then parted ways. When it was time to go in the playroom, Buddy was fascinated. He was happy that there was still more fun to be had before heading back to his kennel. He explored more in the room, and ended up cuddling up on the fuzzy carpet to have a nap!
Macie had a quieter day today, and let Justice do most of the playing outside. They shared a morning walk together today, and Macie let Justice take the lead there as well, while she hung back to sniff almost anything that she possibly could. Justice was so eager to get going along the trail that he almost ended up dragging Macie and I! She is a tough girl though, so she made sure that Justice knew she was the boss, and we were going to go when she said so! While the three of us were outside, Justice and I played fetch, and Macie kept to herself for most of the time, only interested in getting snuggled every now and then. Near the end of play time, Justice decided to leave me out of the game of fetch and not bring the ball back, so I went looking for Macie. She was in the corner of the agility yard, sniffing away at the fence, as she always does. I got her to come cuddle me once again and I pet her back and her head and scratched behind her ears as well. She returned the love by giving me a gentle little kiss on the cheek, as she always does!
Jack and Molly are such a pleasure to share the yard with. These two are always bursting with energy and it is impossible to get them to stop moving for a minute! There was a shortage of toys in the yard today, so these two made due with the company that they had with them and just made use of the entire yard. Molly was thrilled to have Ripley in her group once again. Even though these two ladies have never actually played together, Molly soaks up all energy that Ripley gives off and she just zooms around the yard like crazy. Molly made sure to run in and out of the agility yard at least 4 times this morning. She was so willy-nilly in the yards, running wherever her paws took her. She wasn't doing one specific thing, just enjoying having so much fun bouncing between yards and dogs. Jack took a different approach than he usually does today while we were outside. He was in full love-bug mode. He did run around for the first little bit he was outside, but after he ran around with Molly, he was very eager to snuggle up to my legs and enjoy some good pets and rubs on his back and head. He posed for some very handsome photos for me, and then returned to my side for more attention. Whenever Molly passed by us, wherever we were in the yard, Jack would pounce in front of her to intercept her running by, and then move aside and let her continue. I think it was his way of checking on his sister, to make sure she was enjoying herself during play time. Either way, these two are so cute to watch, whether they are on their walk, bouncing around outside, or cuddled together in their kennel.
Tsavo was so delighted with Rupert in the yard today! I think it is the first time these two have met, and Tsavo was very happy to have Rupert as company. Tsavo was really interested in trying to get Rupert to race around with her. She kept poking at him with her nose and her paws, and barking at him to play. For the first couple minutes of group time, Rupert said hello to Tsavo but his main focus was on finding a toy in the yard. He didn't care what toy it was, he just needed to find one. After coming up empty handed, he came to find me, to let me know that we were in need of a toy in the yard, right now. I went inside and came back with two orange rubber toys in hand. I could see the urgency in Rupert's expression as I showed him the toy. I tossed the toy gently so that Rupert could fetch it, but gently enough as not to put strain on his shoulder. He grabbed it the second it hit the ground and was back at my feet right away. I tossed it for him countless times and Rupert grabbed it each time, with Tsavo following not far behind. She still really wanted to play, but isn't much of a toy gal. She prefers a good game of chase or a wrestling match, so today she decided to bounce along with Rupert, observing his fascination with his toy.
Casey and Kelly were my last walk for the morning and I certainly saved the best for last! These girls are such a pleasure to walk, especially in the back trail. Casey got super excited when I approached them with the leashes and immediately sat down, waiting for me to hook her up so that we could go. Both the girls were so excited that they started to run out the door and go the opposite way of the gate that leads to the trail! I called to them and they both stopped and looked at me. I gestured for them to come my way, and they pulled a 180 and came scooting towards me. Once we hit the tree line, they relaxed more and just enjoyed the walk, with Casey in the front and Kelly not far behind. Once we got outside later in the morning, I made it my mission to cuddle Kelly and Casey as much as possible. They both like to wander around and check everything out, but when I called them, they came wiggling over, with both their tails wagging side to side. Casey sometimes even appears to have a big smile on her face when I call her over. They each take a hand and nudge me to get some petting. I rubbed behind their ears, and rubbed their bellies while they sat beside me. Tonka got a little jealous in the yard, so he came barreling into me, looking for some love as well. Kelly let Tonka take her place for a little while, but once Tonka was occupied by one of his friends in the yard, I called out Kelly's name and she lit up and came to me straight away. These two girls are both so sweet!
Cai was a huge suck today! The moment he saw me outside, he knew that he was going to stay by me the whole time! He did say hello to all his usual daycare friends before saying hello to me. Once he did though, he never left my side. I pet his head and told him that he was the cutest guy in the world and he kept jumping up to me, trying to nibble on my hat and give me kisses. I let him give me kisses, of course, but the hat was a no-no! I tried to distract him by inviting Percy over to see us. Cai said hello to Percy and then followed him around for a while before returning to my side. Cai was happy to hang out with me while the other daycare friends played.
Percy and Teddy were thick as thieves today, as usual. Teddy was in full on herding mode, where as Percy was the one he was herding! Percy took it upon himself to dig up an orange ball from the new snow today and then carry it around where ever he went! Teddy made sure to follow Percy around, and chase after him when Percy was chasing the ball after I'd thrown it. These two continued like this for most of their time outside. When Teddy would take a split second break from running, Percy was already on his case, telling him to keep going, and that it wasn't time to go inside yet! They sure do like to make the most of their time with us. Percy definitely burned off lots of energy today.
Kimi and Lobo were feeling extra lively today. Kimi started running around the moment she got outside, and Lobo was super curious about his friends out in the yard. He made sure to stop and say hello to everyone multiple times, as if he hadn't seen them the time before. He's such a funny guy. Lobo always likes to hang around Spencer in the yard, and today he did just that! Spencer did his usual thing, and sniffed every single inch of the fence line before he even looked up to see who was outside. It wasn't until near the end of group time that Spencer, Kimi and Lobo all started to play together! It was Kimi that first started it, leaping up on Spencer and resting her two front paws on his back until he darted away. Kimi chased after him, with Lobo not far behind. Spencer then turned around mid stride and jumped up at Lobo who was still running after him! These three had so much fun together, but Kimi had the most fun! Her tail was wagging so fast that it was swaying side to side and hitting either side of her body! Spencer eventually veered off from playing with Lobo and Kimi. These two huskies had it out, just the two of them, and raced each other back and forth in the yard a few times before Lobo then decided he was done too. It was just Kimi who was running around then, and once it was time to go inside, she still wasn't ready. After playing some keep away, Kimi got her way and stayed out with the next group!
Mocha was feeling extra spunky today! From the moment she got here, she's been in an excellent mood. On her walk, she kept stopping to sniff everything and then run ahead to Issy and then stop and sniff something new, and run up to Issy again. She was full of beans! At group time, she was even more so. She and Shyla had a grand ol' time together! They shuffled around each other in the fresh snow outside, pausing and then running and then pausing again. Shyla then reached her paw out to paw at Mocha, and then they scurried around in the snow some more. When Shyla and Mocha weren't playing together, Mocha didn't stray away from the group like she usually does. She stayed right in the action, walking around all the other dogs in the yard. Issy followed by example too, and stayed where everyone else was in the yard. She was feeling a little more spoiled today and came to me to demand some back scratches, which I was happy to give! These two ladies were so pleased with their time outside, and came back to their cozy kitchen to enjoy a yummy treat!
Shyla had a blast with Mocha today. She was excited that Mocha wanted to play because it is unusual for Mocha to be so frisky in the yard. When Mocha began to play with her, Shyla was kind of taken aback, and shocked that Mocha wanted to play. But even still, she was so happy that they were playing around in the snow. After these two ladies went their separate ways, Shyla went to see what Maverick was doing. Maverick didn't see her standing by him for the longest time because him and Sadie were in a full on wrestling match, and there was no breaking up their fun! They raced in and out of the agility yard, and then back towards where the lounge is. They tumbled over the tunnel and then got straight up and went for another rip around the two yards. Maverick kept running after Sadie and then trying to get underneath her. Whenever he did this, Sadie launched herself on the ground and then rolled over and let Maverick jump on top of her. She then jumped right up and raced to the other side of the fence. After a little more playing, Maverick got a little tired and knew that it was time to go inside soon. He wanted to get some exploring in before it was time to go in! He went over to the far yard where no one was and began sniffing. Sadie was a little tired too, so she laid down on the snow and began to bite at it. I guess she was thirsty after all that activity!
