Cats
Today in the cat room, Aquinas was busying securing her perch on the window. The other two cats kindly let her lounge by the window without disturbing her and Aquinas had a nice long nap, while watching the snow fall. Eventually she had enough of the scenery and decided to try out the cat tree instead. Right away she jumped up almost to the top and curled up on one of the perches. She happily purred away as I petted her and we watched the other cats bouncing around.
Chief is such a sweetheart! He loves to cuddle and if there is every a moment when you aren't paying attention, he won't hesitate to try to climb into your lap or nuzzle your hand until you start petting him again. Today he was having a blast playing with all the toys he could find. His favourite was the laser toy and he spent quite a while chasing the little red dot around. Once he had enough of the laser, Chief decided to try out the pink feather toy instead. Then he hopped onto the cat tree for a nap.
Missy loves the cat tree and spends most of her time either tucked away in it or sprawling on the perches. She decided that she was in the mood for some quiet time today, and curled up in one of the holes for a nap. She looked super comfy! While she was resting, I rubbed her ears a bit and right away Missy started purring, stretched and had a big yawn. Then she ran over to the window to see what was outside. We also played for a bit with her favourite toy, the pink feather on a string.

Timbits is doing quite well with his obedience training! He loves to show off how well he can listen and sits at every doorway with only a little encouragement. He is also walking on the leash very nicely and is always watching to make sure he is doing it right. Today, during our structured walk outside, we practiced heeling on leash and then revisited the command inside without the leash. He did very well! We also worked a bit on keeping his attention in the midst of distractions - such as treats and toys - and Timbits is becoming quite the expert at coming when he hears his name. After practicing his stay and place commands, we played a few games in the playroom to put his nose to work.
Groups
Merlin is such a cutie! He decided to do a bit of playing and cuddling today, to make sure that no one was feeling left out from his attention, and he spent half of his time running around with the dogs and the other half cuddling with me. While he was bouncing around with his buddy Tennya, they discovered the tunnel. Merlin was very confused when Tennya darted inside and began rolling around. He then noticed Mac running around the yard and took off after him instead. Every time they passed me, Merlin would put on the brakes and sit at my feet for a nice back rub before hurrying after his friends again.
Tennya had a blast playing in the snow today. She was darting around with her slightly smaller look-a-like, Merlin, and attempting to catch the flakes that were falling from the sky. I looked away for one moment, and suddenly Tennya had disappeared and the tunnel was rocking back and forth. She had jumped in and was kicking out the snow, before rolling around inside the tunnel. Merlin was a little puzzled as to what his friend was doing. Then Tennya had a big shake and dashed away to play chase with Merlin. Once they had worn themselves out, she wandered over to see me for some cuddles.
Kouza was also enjoying the nice weather, along with the rest of her group, and was very content to sit in the yard all day while the snow was falling. I brought a handful of toys for the dogs to play with and Kouza was very interested in the little pink Kong. Right away she snatched it up and carried it off. She was very proud of her toy. Kouza dropped the toy in the snow and quickly pounced on it, making sure it wouldn't escape. Later, she was in the mood for attention and came to see me about some cuddles. We played with the Kong a bit more as well before it was time to head inside.
Nanook blends right in with the snowy backdrop and when he's rolling around it's hard to tell what's dog and what's snow! He was super excited to go outside today. As I was taking pictures and handing out cuddles, Nanook suddenly zoomed past my feet with his friend Mac right on his trail. He was very happy running around and bounding through the snow. I tossed a toy in his direction and Nanook hardly broke stride as he pounced on it and carried it away. He played a game of keep away with Mac and I. Along the way, he discovered a tennis ball and had a challenging time deciding which toy to play with. Eventually he just settled on both and we took turns playing fetch with each toy.
Xiao Bao really enjoys leaping through the snow after his friends. Even though he's so little, he doesn't let that stop him and was a challenging opponent during a game of chase with Timbits and Mac. For such a tiny guy he sure can move! As well as tearing around the yard with the others, he also spent a good deal of time curled up on my lap; he loves to cuddle. Once Xiao Bao had enough attention, he went back to playing. His favourite game is running around with the two beagles, Coco and Timbits. When it was time to play inside, he dashed right into the play room and didn't even pause his game for a second.
Gabby had a little welcoming committee in the yard today to get her used to groups. She got along very well with the three other dogs and happily said hello to them. She was a little more timid around me, though she quickly warmed up and was very pleased to receive some cuddles. Once Gabby and the others had exchanged greetings, she decided to explore the yard. It smelled very interesting from all the dogs who were outside earlier, and she was quite busy darting around and investigating every scent. She also had fun plowing through the snow and adventuring with her friends Missy and Spock.
Dawson spent his group time running around with his best friend, Molly, and chasing all the toys I was throwing for him. First he discovered a nice Kong that Molly also had her sights set on, and the two had a big race and wrestling match to determine which dog got the toy. Eventually, Dawson found a different toy - a Frisbee - and decided to let Molly have the Kong. What a gentleman! As he was carrying his Frisbee away, he stumbled over a mound of snow and dug down to find a rope toy. Dawson looked so proud of himself as he sat down on both the toys and smiled at me.
Syrus had a great time today playing with a bunch of different dogs. First he was wrestling with his husky friends Magic and Brokk; the three of them were sprinting through the snow together and leaping over obstacles. Then he noticed Dawson and Molly playing with their toys and decided to join in, sneaking over and attempting to steal their Kong. Unfortunately Molly caught him and took off with her toy, the other two in hot pursuit. Later, Syrus and Magic visited his buddy Duke in the other yard. He had a blast running around with Duke and exploring the new yard.
Molly adores her toys, that's for sure! She and her friend Dawson had a friendly competition for a Kong they found in the yard. Whenever Dawson managed to sneak the toy away from her, Molly would look at me as if to ask where it went, and then bounce off in search of her friend. They chased each other around and wrestled for a bit before Dawson noticed a Frisbee and decided to let Molly keep the Kong. Molly snatched it up, parading around the yard with it to show all the other dogs. Her friend Brokk was very jealous!
Duke loves the snow so much! He was running around with his husky friends, Magic and Syrus, before he noticed a big pile of snow and leaped right into the middle of it. I made a snowball and tossed it in the air for him to catch, and Duke jumped straight up and caught it. He chased after a few more snowballs and then laid down for a breather, shoveling through the snow with his nose. Then he noticed Magic sniffing around and dashed over to play with her. He's such an energetic boy and was playing non-stop for the rest of outside time with the other dogs.
Roobee and Riley were very excited to go for a walk this morning - I could hardly get the leashes on them because they were bouncing around so much! Once we got outside the pair settled down and decided to take the trail at a nice leisurely pace, sniffing the whole time. During groups, that attitude quickly changed! Riley was darting all over the place with his friend Kane. Occasionally he would pick up a toy, fling it around and then race after Kane, before repeating the cycle. He also decided to have a tug-of-war match with me, which he of course won. Roobee was a little quieter than her brother and spent her outdoor time exploring the yard and watching the others play. She's such a good girl and loves to pose for the camera!
Bentley had a great walk this morning with his friend Abby. Every few steps he would flop onto his side and have a nice roll in the snow. By the time we got back from the walk, his entire face was covered in snow! When it was time for groups he bounced right back outside and into yet another heap of snow. I called his name and Bentley immediately dashed over to me with his tail waving, and then he noticed the rope toy I was holding, getting ready to chase after it. Once we were finished playing, Bentley posed for a picture and then ran inside for more play time.
Oliver was having a blast in the snow today. First he decided he would play with the others and snatched up a rope toy. Oliver was jogging around the yard with his buddies Kane and Riley, swinging the toy around with his mouth. Then he paused for a breather, and he must have smelled something interesting because the next second he was taking off towards the corner of the yard with his nose in the snow. Once he was satisfied that the scent had been investigated thoroughly, Oliver came to say hello to me and cuddle for a bit before it was time to head inside.
