Sunday January 29th, 2017

Macie, as usual, was wide awake first thing this morning and could hardly wait to get the day started. For the first group rotation of the day, she happily trotted outside with the other dogs and set out to explore the snow. She looked so cute as she wandered over to me with her face covered in snowflakes! Macie wiggled her tail when I bent down to pet her and happily danced around while I gave her a back rub. It wasn't long before it was time for walks and Macie was waiting excitedly at the door of her kennel, eager to get on the trail. She joined up with her friend Charlie and hurried outside. The two of them were zigzagging back and forth as soon as they reached the trail. Macie hopped into the snowdrifts and started sniffing around the trees. She bumped a branch and knocked a bunch of snow onto herself, and then quickly scrambled backwards onto the path, giving herself a big shake. For the next bit of the walk Macie and Charlie busied themselves by poking their noses into every hole they could find. Then they must have decided that they had done enough sniffing because Macie trotted on ahead and Charlie soon followed her. Macie led the way back and once she got into her kennel she had a nice long stretch. She must have been warming up for groups because as soon as the dogs started heading outside, Macie was ready and waiting in her kennel once more. Out in the yard, she wandered around to see what everyone else was up to, and spent some time sniffing around with Sophie. I gathered some toys for everybody and Macie seemed interested as I was handing them out to the dogs, so I saved her favourite toy from yesterday, the squeaky bone. As soon as I squeaked it Macie ran to my side. She is so well-mannered and immediately sat down to ask for it. Macie took it in her mouth with one end sticking out and the other wedged in her cheek; it was quite funny to see. She must have wanted to take it inside as she carried it straight to the door and waited patiently. Once Macie realized that it wasn't time to head in yet, she came trotting back to the rest of the dogs. Along the way she had adjusted the bone and was now carrying it more easily. Macie was so proud of her toy that she then decided to walk around the yard and show it off to everyone!

Sophie is such a cutie! This morning when I came to get her for the first group of the day, Sophie was bouncing around in her kennel and was so excited to say hello to the dogs and I. She started running laps as soon as she got outside, with her nose in the snow. Once most of the yard had been sniffed, Sophie slowed down and came over to cuddle with me. Next it was time for walks. Sophie was so happy and kept wriggling around, it was a bit of a challenge getting the leash on her. We then joined her friends Bentley and Molly, and the three of them burst out of the door. Molly and Sophie trucked ahead through the show, shoulder to shoulder. They seemed to be setting a good pace for the walk. Then about ten feet down the trail, Sophie dove into the layer of fresh snow and started rolling around with her legs flailing everywhere. This dog absolutely loves the snow! She was covered in it by the time she finally got to her feet and went prancing after Molly. We must have stopped about five times on the walk for Sophie to have a nice roll. When it was time for groups later, Sophie immediately glued herself to my side and trotted along with me while I walked around the yard. I gave her lots of attention and if Sophie ever thought I was getting distracted she would nuzzle my hand to make sure that I kept petting her. She enjoyed some more cuddles with me and then decided to explore the yard. Sophie is always in such a great mood; her tail always wags like crazy as she's running around. She checked out all of the snow along the fence and then headed towards the tunnel. There she met up with Macie, who was also sniffing around, and the girls teamed up to cover more ground. Sophie seems to enjoy socializing with the other dogs and she made sure to greet everybody that wandered past. Eventually the two of them had walked around the entire agility yard and Macie was heading to the main yard, though Sophie quickly raced over to see what I was up to. She leaned right up against my leg and looked up at me with her tongue sticking out and a big doggy smile on her face. I gave her a back rub and Sophie shuffled her feet happily. She snuggled up with me for a bit longer and then went back to join the other dogs before we headed inside.

Molly is always in such a great mood, and today was no exception. For Molly's extra attention this morning, she spent some time in the front play room with Delaney. When we got up to the playroom, Molly ran right over to the toy bin, put her paw in it and knocked it over to find her favourite toy. After she found the orange ball, we played fetch for a few minutes before I filled the pink puzzle paw with a few treats for her to find; she loved it. After she emptied out the puzzle paw, Molly ran back over to the orange ball and picked it up for me to throw. After I threw it around a few more times, Molly lay down with the ball and chewed on it before it was time to go back to her kennel. Right away she was on her feet and ready to get outside. She went bounding into the yard with the other dogs, and soon Molly was darting around with them as everybody checked out the area to see what had changed overnight. It didn't take long before Molly's face was covered in snow. After that it was walks, and Molly was so excited when she saw me coming with the leashes. She did her best to sit down and wait patiently while I got her ready for the walk, but I could tell that she was having a difficult time containing her excitement as her tail was wagging like crazy and her feet kept sliding around. Then we were ready to go and Molly practically flew out of the kennel. She met up with Bentley and Sophie, and there was lots of tail wagging as they all said hello to each other. Then Molly tensed up and suddenly went racing ahead. The dogs were eager to get to the trail and were prancing at the ends of the leashes. Once we reached the trees they calmed down and Molly was happy to spend some time exploring. She was in a playful mood and tried getting Bentley to run around with her, although she just succeeded in winding herself up and started racing in circles. Luckily it was soon time for groups and Molly could put her energy to good use. Right away Molly went flying through the door and practically tackled Nyxx to the ground. Both of them hopped to their feet and ran off side by side. They wrestled for a bit, until Molly was distracted by something in the snow and Nyxx went off to play with someone else. Molly discovered a rope toy and carried it around for everyone to see. She then stumbled upon an even better toy, the jolly ball. Molly quickly claimed that for herself and carried it over to me. It's not the best toy to play fetch with, so instead I just kicked it around while Molly chased it. She did her best to pick it up but as it's a bit awkward to carry, most of the time Molly just pushed it with her nose. She seemed to be having a great time playing with it. Eventually Molly decided it was time for a break, and took the ball to a corner of the yard where she could lay down and observe the dogs running around while she played with her ball.

Teddie and Kizmet had such a fun day today. When Eric went to get them for their walk, the boys jumped around their kennel with enthusiasm. As soon as they got outside Teddie and Kiz went flying with excitement through the yard with Eric trailing behind them. On the trail, Teddie and Kiz spent most of their time trailing through the snow, however Kiz made sure to stop a few times to roll around in the snow. When they got back to their kennel, Teddie and Kizmet both curled up on their beds and chewed on their hooves. When it was time to go outside for their group, Teddie and Kiz jumped out of their beds and ran out the door as if their lives depended on it. When we all got outside, Teddie and Kizmet B-lined it for the agility yard, with the rest of the group following closely behind them. When they got to the agility yard, Teddie and Kiz went separate ways to do their own thing; Teddie went over to the fence to sniff around, while Kiz socialized with his pals. While Teddie sniffed around, Kiz spent some time playing around with his pals, and then Teddie decided to join in as well. Before we went back inside, the boys got to see some special visitors in the yard quickly, who they got lots of love from.

Allie was such a funny girl today. When I wanted to give her some extra attention I couldn't find her. I looked high and low, because you have to do that when you are looking for Allie and finally located her in one of the other cat's carriers. I looked in and she blinked at me sleepily. "Come on out, Allie!" I said but she did not emerge. I tried to tempt her with the tease toy, but she was not interested in getting up yet. A little later, when she was up and about, Kelsey went to spend some special time with Allie and the other cats. Allie was much more energetic and ready to play and enjoy some head pets.

Rufus and Sherman had a wonderful day today. For their walk this morning, Rufus and Sherman powered through the fresh snow like champs, even though it was ¾ of the way up their legs. Throughout their walk, Rufus and Sherman spent most of their time bouncing through the snow, however they did stop a few times to play around with each other. When the boys got back to their kennel, they curled up on their bed together and went to sleep. When it was time to go outside for their group, Rufus and Sherman were a little hesitant when their paws first hit the snow, but as soon as they were fully out the door they took off running around the yard together. As they ran around, Rufus stopped a few times to sniff around until Sherman decided to slow down and dig in the snow. While they boys dug around, they were on high alert of their surroundings, ready to play as soon as some was interested, however, no one wanted to play this afternoon. When they got back to their kennel, Rufus and Sherman snuggled back into their bed happily.

When it was time to go outside for her walk this morning, Maggie hopped out of bed with a big stretch and yawn, excited to get going. Once she got to the trail, Maggie took off like a rocket to the end of her leash excited to plow through the snow. As she walked along, Maggie stopped a few times to dig and roll around through the snow, but she was mainly focused on continuing walking. When she got back to her kennel, Maggie curled up on her bed for a little nap. When it was time to go outside for her group, Maggie was a little hesitant at first, however as soon as she got outside she took off around the yard with the zoomies. As Maggie zoomed around the yard, all her pals watched her and a few chased her around but soon enough she got tired and slowed down a bit. Before I took the group back inside, I gave Maggie a few cuddles and treats.
