Sunday January 15, 2017

Rufus and Sherman enjoyed the slightly-warmer weather today! They were excited to be outside first thing in the morning and spent a while wandering around the yard to make sure nothing had changed since yesterday. Sherman led the way and his brother pranced along behind him. Once the boys were satisfied that everything had been thoroughly sniffed, they made their rounds to say hello to everyone. Before we headed inside, they stopped by to get some attention from me. It was then time for walks. They teamed up with their friend Resa and had so much fun exploring the trail. It was a bit chilly outside, but they were both bundled up nicely in their coats and had no trouble with the snow. Luckily things had warmed up a bit in time for groups. The two of them still seemed to have a ton of energy. Rufus immediately put it to good use and was running all over the yard. Sherman followed at a more reasonable pace, pausing to give every hole and crevice a good sniff. He found the picnic table to be quite interesting and spent some time checking it out. Rufus, who had raced ahead, quickly doubled back when he realized that Sherman had stopped. He practically went headfirst into Sherman's side! Next stop was the tunnel. Along the way they met up with Bogie, who decided to go adventuring with them. The three of them stuck together for a while. After exploring the tunnel, they took a break and hurried over to say hello to me. Rufus happily snuggled up against my legs and leaned on me as I gave him a scratch behind the ear, and Sherman sat nearby while he waited for his turn. Once Rufus had enough attention, he went trotting off with Bogie at his side. Sherman cuddled on my lap and observed the rest of the dogs wandering around. Eventually he climbed off and went to find his brother again. Rufus was currently perched on a rock, which was easy to climb onto thanks to the snow. Sherman bounced up beside him and they shouldered each other back and forth as they tried to claim the space. Then Rufus slide off one side, and not wanting to admit defeat, pranced off as if nothing had happened. Sherman quickly followed. The two of them spent the rest of group time running around the yard together.

Lilo was absolutely full of energy today, as always! She was ready to have fun right from the start of the day. First thing in the morning, the dogs were still waking up, so when Lilo's group had their turn in the yard, everyone stuck to themselves and explored. She was happy to join them, but I could tell that she couldn't wait to get playing. Thankfully we had walks next and Lilo got to put her energy to good use! She enjoyed a nice one-on-one walk with our volunteer and loved all of the attention she got. After that, it was time for Lilo to play! She could hardly sit still while I put her coat on, and once she was bundled up, Lilo practically flew out the door after the other dogs. They started out by wandering around the yard and sniffing things, while Lilo raced in circles. Eventually she slowed down enough to run over to me and cuddle for a bit. Her friend Hudson noticed us and trotted over to say hello. Lilo immediately play-bowed. It didn't take long for Hudson to respond with a play-bow of his own, and then he pounced on Lilo and the two of them went tearing across the yard. They were in the middle of a wrestling match when suddenly Lilo bumped into Laika. The girls both gave each other a quick sniff and then they bounced around together for a bit. Lilo then came over to see what I was doing. I found a tiny snowball and tossed it up in the air for Lilo to chase after. This caught Nyxx's attention as well, and soon enough Lilo had yet another playmate! Lilo went back and forth between playing with Nyxx and Hudson, as well as Hudson's new friend Barley. I don't think I saw her standing still once! She absolutely had a great time running around and playing with everybody in the yard.

Hudson is such a delight to have staying with us. He loves to play, and everybody loves to play with him! Hudson started things off with a walk alongside his good friend Nyxx. Both of them were bouncing around together for most of the walk, and if they weren't playing, they were hopping through the snow and exploring the trail. After that, it was time for groups. Hudson met up with Nyxx again, as well as a few other dogs. He seemed to have used up some of his boundless energy on his walk, so Hudson spent a couple of minutes wandering around the yard and checking things out. He discovered the kiddy pool that was mostly buried in snow and attempted to chew on that, before deciding that it wasn't the best toy and headed off to find something better. Hudson was in the middle of sniffing the picnic table when his friend Lilo raced past him to see what I was doing. Not wanting to be left out, Hudson hurried after her. Both of them enjoyed a quick cuddle before they pounced on each other, and Hudson raced away with Lilo on his heels. The two of them had an intense wrestling match while the other dogs cheered them on. In the end, I think that Lilo might have been victorious, though both of them were wagging their tails and panting happily once they slowed down. Lilo went to play with Laika, so Hudson caught his breath while snuffling around in the snow for a bit, and then he too pranced over to see what Laika was doing. He was then distracted by Barley rolling around, and practically leaped right on top of poor Barley! The boys wasted no time jumping to their feet and then tackling each other again. They had so much fun playing together that it was a bit of a challenge getting their attention once it was time to head inside.

Laika had such a great time to start off her stay with us! It started off with a nice walk with Delilah and Chloe. The girls were content to calmly explore the trail together while Laika got used to things. Next it was time for groups, and Laika was more than ready to head outside again. Everyone in her group was so excited to meet their new friend and they each gave her a quick sniff before the dogs headed out to explore the yard together. Laika seemed content to wander around and check things out by herself for a little while. She was sniffing the remains of the snowman when Lilo bounced over to see if Laika was interested in playing. Laika happily play-bowed to Lilo, and the girls went racing off together. They danced around a bit and eventually caught the attention of Hudson, who hurried over to join in. Lilo and Hudson began wrestling with each other while Laika cheered them on. Eventually Laika decided to take a break from playing, and trotted over to say hello to me. She was happy to cuddle for a while. What a sweetheart! While Laika and I were snuggling, she watched Lilo, Barley and Hudson chase each other around. Occasionally, when the three of them ran past us, Laika would bounce after them until they raced off again, and then Laika would wander over to me again. After a few minutes of this, Laika decided to resume exploring the yard, as there was some things that she still hadn't sniffed since Lilo had interrupted her. She greeted the other dog in her group, Nyxx, and then trotted towards the tunnel to check things out over there. She played a bit more with the others before we went inside. Overall Laika had a super fun day with all of the dogs!

Chloe is having a blast with us here at Tails and Trails. For her walk this morning, she got to spend some time with her good pal Laika. As soon as the pair met in the hall, they were playing around and barking hello to each other. When we got outside, Chloe took off like a rocket to the end of her leash, excited to get out in the field for her walk. As we walked along, Chloe stuck to sniffing while Laika stopped a few times to roll around in the snow. When we got back inside, Chloe welcomed the warmth of her bed as she curled up in it for a nap. When it was time to go outside, Chloe ran down the hall and out the door as fast as she could, excited to see all her pals again. As soon as she got outside, she stopped to sniff everyone but then quickly carried on running through the yard. Once she finally slowed down, she spent some time sniffing around in the yard and through the tunnel to see if anything had changed since her last visit. Shortly after she was greeting by her good pal Kizmet and the pair took off running around together. As they both became tired, it was time to go inside, but before we did they gave each other a few kisses to say they would see each other again soon!

Kai is having a so much fun with us while her family is away. For her walk this morning, she got to spend some time with her good pals Justice and Eric.  When they started off their walk, Kai and Justice spent some time giving each other a good sniff before they were ready to head out to the field, but once they were ready Eric knew it would be a fantastic walk. As they all walked through the snow together, Kai pounced as she went, enjoying feeling the snow on her belly and legs. As soon as we got back from her walk, Kai was happy to go to her bed for a sleep.  For her group today, Kai wasn’t too interested in playing around, however she did spend lots of time sniffing around. She started off sniffing around the fences, then moved to a few rocks, but the place she spent the most time sniffing around was the agility tunnel. After sniffing around, Kai spent some time sniffing the other dogs in the group. Before it was time to go inside, she went over to Kizmet and said hello to him, gave him a kiss and they ran inside together. Kai is such a sweetheart! She was so cozy on her bed in the staff room and enjoying lots of cuddles from everyone, it took a bit of convincing to get her up for extra attention. Once Kai realized where we were going, she was much perkier. We headed to the playroom and Kai immediately set out to explore the room. She poked her head in the toy bin and then glanced out the window, before trotting over to snuggle with me. It didn't take long before she sniffed out the treats in my pocket. Kai was happy to show off her skills, and quickly sat down and gave me a paw in exchange for a treat. She repeated the trick a few more times. After that, Kai just wanted all the attention she could get her paws on, so I gave her a back rub and then Kai flopped over for a belly rub. She got a bit wound up and wriggled around, pretending to grab at my hand like it was a toy every time I went to pet her. Eventually Kai got tired of the game and was happy to lay there while I cuddled with her.

Monkey is having a great time with us here at Tails and Trails. He started his day off on a nice walk through the field with Macie and Tiffani, and Nyxx, Hudson and Kelsey right behind them. As the pack walked along, Monkey stopped a few times to roll around in the snow, but he generally kept to the path. When we got back inside, Monkey curled up on his bed and went to sleep. When it was time to go out for his group, Monkey patiently waited for me to put his coat on before he ran outside. When he got outside, Monkey spent his time sniffing around the yard, while watching his pals play. Monkey was especially excited for his extra attention time this morning. Right from the moment that he went back into his kennel after his morning walk, he was anticipating coming up front to say hi to everybody. Once I went to get him, he bounced up and gave me a huge kiss. Then he raced down the hallway and knew exactly where to go; where all of the people were of course! Monkey trotted into the front reception area and made sure to greet each and every one of us with a kiss. After making his rounds, Monkey decided that it was time to cuddle. I was sitting up on one of the comfy chairs when Monkey jumped his front end right up onto me. He seemed to be attached to me from that moment on. Even when others were offering him treats, Monkey just snuggled even closer to me. Eventually he had his hind end up on me as well. After an extra back scratch, Monkey was ready for me to give him a few treats. He did an excellent job of showing me all of his tricks which included paw, sit and down. Every time he completed the trick he was so happy and was excited to get his treat afterwards of course. I tried to get him to play with the toys that we had up here but all he was focused on was treats and snuggles.

Macie is such a sweet girl. For her walk today, she got to spend some time with her pals Monkey and Tiffani. When they got outside, Macie, Monkey and Tiffani all walked together through the yards and out to the field, trekking through the fresh snow. Throughout her walk, Macie mainly kept to her self, however she did seem to enjoy her friends company. Before she got back inside, Tiffani gave Macie a few cuddles and kisses, and then she went back to her bed for a bit. For groups today, Macie was super excited to be outside. As soon as she got outside, she ran around the agility yard with her pals, before he nose caught a scent and she followed it over to the fence. After sniffing around the fence, Macie ran over to the nursery and lounge doors to sniff around before sniffing her pals. After giving everyone a good sniff, Macie spent some time playing around with them. When she finally got tired, Macie ran over to the door and waited for me to come and let her inside.

Teddie and Kizmet had a great day today. For their walk this morning, they got to spend some time with their pal Oakley, which they really seemed to enjoy. As soon as the trio got outside they all went separate ways sniffing as they went, before we got out to the field. When we got to the field, Kiz stopped to roll around in the snow while Teddie spent some time sniffing his silly brother. After Kizment was done rolling around, we continued on our walk. Before we got back inside, Kiz nudged at his brother as if to say play with me, but Teddie wasn't quite in the mood. When they got back to their kennel, they both curled up on their beds for a little nap. When it was time for the boys to go outside, they ran down the hall and out the door as if it was there last time to ever go outside. Needless to say, they were very excited. When we all got outside, Teddie went off to sniffing around the yard while Kiz stopped to sniff everyone and say hello. After saying hello to everyone, Kiz came over to my side and asked for a few pets while he gave me some lovely kisses. After spending some time cuddling, Kiz went off to play with some of his pals while Teddie and I cuddled for a bit. After everyone was finally ready to go inside, Teddy and Kizmet went to their beds for another sleep.

Allie was full of cuddles today. I went in to the cat room to spend some time with her and she was cuddled up in her cat carrier on the floor, taking a nap. I tried to coax her out of her little cubbie to play with me. She slept for  few more minutes and in the meantime I got her a little treat. She gladly came trotting over once she heard the cabinet open. She looked up at me and I gave her a little treat. She then took a big stretch and went to sit by the window. I happily sat with her and pet her head while she was content to look out the window. A few minutes passed by and she leaped down from the ledge and went and meowed by the food cabinet. It seemed as though she wanted another treat so she meowed at me until I did. She crawled her way into the cabinet and decided it was a good idea to take a little nap on one of the shelves. I picked her up and gently placed her in her bed in the condo, where she took a quick nap before getting up to explore again.
