Wednesday March 15, 2017

Bruno is the one small dog that is eager to play outdoors regardless of the weather. We have received inches of snow, and it is still falling. On top of this this winds are high and the temperatures are low. This doesn’t effect Bruno one bit. He is the spiciest, most outgoing little guy, nothing bothers him. He zipped into the yard and instantly began making snow angels in the fresh powder. HE then stood up and began zipping around looking for a mate to chase him. To his disappointment, most of his friends were eager to return indoors. As some head into the playroom, Bruno stayed outside with his friends Pepper and Cara to play a little. HE was excited to race around with Pepper and then wrestle with Cara a little before making his way indoors, too. Bruno was just as excited to play inside as he was outside. He made a good time goofing around with Cara and a tennis ball. When he finally got a hold of the toy we played a couple rounds of fetch before he gave it up to another friend. Bruno was happy to relax next to me on the comfy bed inside at the end of all his crazy playing before heading back to his kennel.

Pepper makes me laugh, everyday. She couldn’t be happier to be living in the kitchen. She gets way too much attention in here, always being pet and cuddled by every staff member that enters. When I came in this morning she began howling and barking at me while jumping all over me and doing some speedy circles. She loves seeing familiar faces. She was just as excited when Susan was in the kitchen with her later in the day, you can tell she remembers all the one on one time they have spent together. Pepper was eager to get outdoors and play around, but once she got out there she realized this weather was no joke. She slowly made her way into the bigger portion of the yard through the snow, to where the wind had blown the terrain more level. Here, she was happy to bounce around and play for a short while. She as pleased when I opened up the door to the back playroom where she could pay around indoors. She had some brief fun with Bruno before settling in along the wall for a snooze. She was awake on and off, keeping an eye on all the action going on around her while minding her own business. When I offered her pets and cuddles her eyes lit up and she got very excited. We had some fun dancing around in the playroom, which got her very excited. She bounced around with myself, and dog friends, until it was time to return to her humble abode (the kitchen).

Kouza had lots to sniff and explore in the yard today, as we received oodles of fresh powder. She kept herself very busy trotting through the snow, avoiding the deepest patches by staying close to the fences and the sides of the building. She was happy to come across a couple friends along the way who danced around her with excitement. She is always keen to say hello, but doesn’t often give in to their invites to play. After lots of sniffing and exploring, Kouza was happy to make her way to my side where he was pet and cuddled. We kept each other warm while the other dogs played around. We didn’t stay outside long today, rather we made our way to the indoor playroom for some more fun. Kouza was very interested in the playroom as it offered lots of fresh smells to sniff and explore. She kept busy investigating this room while her friends played around her. When she found me in the playroom, she sat with me accepting never ending pets until it was time to return to her kennel.

Tsavo had a lot of fun in her group today. She got to partake in a group filled with mostly younger dogs, which kept her very busy. At first, Tsavo was particularly intrigued by the youngsters wrestling around. She got right in between them trying to get involved. The dogs were happy to have her join in on the fun, tossing paws at her and leaping all over her. Tsavo was very accepting of their young behaviours. In fact, she play bowed back and ran around with them. After some fast circles around the yard and some wrestling, she broke off to sniff and explore. As she was minding her own business, some friends made there way to her asking her to please continue playing. She gave in to them, and played around some more a little bit reluctantly. They could sense she wasn’t as interested so they left her side. At this point, she made her way to me to say hello. We had a nice cuddle before once again her friends interrupted her. Before we head indoors, Tsavo played around one more. She was so fast on her feet sprinting around with the young hooligans with a smile on her face and a wagging tail.

Finn was quite the monkey today, but what’s new? He was hilarious in the staff room with his staff dog friends Merida and Kyah. Normally Charly is there to keep him busy however she took the day off today, leaving Finn with two older dogs who didn’t want much to do with his nonsense. He decided to roll on his back and paw at the air while howling and barking asking for attention. This lasted quite some time until he realized the girls weren’t going to play with him. When he stood up he continued to howl, which provoked Kyah and Merida to begin chatting. These three were having the loudest howling conversation ever, which made me laugh a lot. In the yard Finn kept very busy with Polly. They were rolling through the deep snow, non-stop. They tugged at each other and leapt all over one another until their pal Chloe joined in. Chloe and Finn then broke off to enjoy one another’s company. Chloe and Finn were so physical with one another, not afraid to toss each other around and mouth at one another a lot. They were so busy with each other that they didn’t notice all the dogs playing around them. By the time we head indoors Finn was coated with snow. As he rested in the staff room, he slowly melted into the ground, waiting for his next outing just to get coated all over again.

Bella was a little surprised when she entered the yard today and didn’t see her best buddy Justice in her group. I could tell she was looking for him when she got outside and glanced from dog to dog looking for him. This didn’t get her down at all, in fact she was intrigued by all the young dogs in her group. All the puppy energy got Bella very active. She was bouncing from dog to dog with a social smile on her face for the entire duration of her group time. Bella was sure to meet up with two of her regular friends, Kyah and Oakley too. These three had a lot of fun batting back and forth while howling and chatting. Bella was eager to run and sprint with the youngsters who never stopped moving, too. She loved zipping and zooming around with Scout, the hound mix. These two were very fast on their feet and agile with all the new snow. Bella was so thrilled to socialize with so many new faces. Come the afternoon group outing, Bella was happy to re-unite with Justice and get up to her usual games with him.

Oakley is such a funny girl. She seems to never be bothered by weather. Whether its sunny and 35, pouring rain, or a winter storm with gusting winds, she has the same personality and mind set. Of course she spent the first bit of her outdoor time by my side. She wasn’t going to let me get away with not cuddling her. After bundles of side pats and chin scratches she finally broke away from my side to investigate the inches of snow covering the yard. While she was doing this, she came across her pal Kyah. Kyah was playing it cool, wandering around with Oakley not making a move. Finally, Oakley to my surprise made the first move. She pounced right on Kyah with no notice as if to say “fine, I give in, please play with me!”. The duo set off on their usual shenanigans across the yard. Boxing and batting back and forth while skillfully balancing on their hind legs. Their games quickly moved to the tunnel where Kyah darted in looking for Oakley to follow. Oakley decided to play from the outside instead. Kyah reminded me of a groundhog poking out of it’s hole, over and over, getting Oakley’s attention over and over again. They had so much fun together, keeping one another very busy. Oakley also socialized with her mate Bella for a bit and gave Chloe the “puppy” the time of day for a brief period before heading indoors to the warmth.

Gracie, our sweet and energetic boarding guest had another fabulous day in our care. She was thrilled to see how much snow had fallen since the last time she was out and all the white fluffy stuff put her in the most playful mood. Or perhaps it was because she met young pup Chloe out in the yard today and she seemed to bring out the puppy in Gracie herself. As you can imagine, Gracie didn’t have much time to cuddle outside today, she saved that for her extra attention sessions. Today, she was on the move and there was no one that was going to stop her! She relentlessly chased after Chloe along with Husky pals Magic and Justice. But she didn’t stop there, she was wrestling with Spencer and hopping over Brooke and zooming around the yard without a care in the world! Gracie enjoyed some one on one time with both myself and with Leah today. She and I hung out together, having lots of pets, cuddles, and even some treats in exchange for some tricks. She made friends with Tails & Trails resident Julie, showing off her skills and sharing treats with her new pal. Later in the day, Gracie and Leah hung out together in the back playroom, where Gracie played with a tennis ball, and sat comfortably for some snuggles on one of the big comfy beds.

Spencer felt the same way about the snow, it’s hilarious to watch everyone get so frantic and excited, especially Spencer, it looked like he was just floating across the yard because you couldn’t see his feet! Spencer made a point of sniffing out the entire agility yard, especially the high drifts of snow; you never know what treasures you might come across! But all of that treading in heavy snow got him tired, he had to plunk down in a snow bank to catch his breath, beard full of icicles of course! After a quick rest, he saw Kyah from across the yard and just like that he was ready to play again. He darted towards her and they had their usual wrestle, Kyah and Spencer just adore one another and are the best of friends. Like Kyah, Spencer had lots of friends to play with and decided to join Gracie and her chase across the yard with friends Chloe and Brooke. Spencer was having a comfy snooze in his kennel this afternoon when I approached his door for his extra attention session. Up he was and ready to go for a fun time up front! Fun he had as he played with some of his favourite toys and chomped down on some delicious treats! Lots of hugs and kisses from this big boy who was still wet from his morning of play outside. He must have been tired, because towards the end of his session he sprawled out for another rest, and was happy to fall asleep to some belly rubs and in good company of course!

Bear was having a blast out there today as well! All of this young spirited energy had Bear in such a playful mood, but Bear has always been young at heart! Although older, I was surprised to see Bear keep up with the rest and there he was always right in the centre of all the action. Much like the others, he adores Brooke the lab and spent most of his time following her around the yard, enticing her to play. I don’t blame him, Brooke is the happiest lab around and she in turn enjoyed his company. But often Brooke was too fast, so Bear took a seat in the snow with the greatest smile on his face as he watched the others run circles around him. Then unlikely friend Kyah ran over and took a seat beside him to keep him company and gave him a paw to his back as if she was saying hello!

Quincy and Seamus had their extra attention session first thing this morning and that meant they were just beaming with excitement and energy. They followed me down the hall and into the playroom for a morning of fun! Seamus, the silly boy went straight for the toy box and buried his big head until he found the perfect rope toy to chew. We played a good game of tug before brother Quincy who wanted to have a friendly wrestle interrupted us! Seamus quickly took him up on that offer and before I knew it these two gentle giants were up dancing on their hind legs as they wrestled the morning away! Their energy continued a short while later outside, but this time with their favourite four-legged friends. They decided to pick up where they left off inside and started dancing again. This time, little friend Millie wanted to join in and the three of them played the morning away!

Sophie is another friend of Golden brothers Quincy and Seamus and she has really been enjoying their company. But not has much as the human company, Sophie is not only a very vocal lady, but she is a sucker for cuddles. So if she’s not pacing around the yard singing away, she is likely wrapped around one of our legs taking in all of the head rubs she can get! Much like Bear, Sophie is young at heart and can keep up just as much as the rest of them! She had a wonderful time running around following Luigi and Cai as they played away. Never wants to engage in a wrestling match herself, but wants to make sure she is close enough to enjoy the show! However she never forgets to take a break to roll around in the freshly fallen snow, a true Golden at heart!

Chloe was off running around notoriously with the red jolly ball in her mouth. In fact there never seems to be a moment where Chloe doesn’t have some sort of toy in her mouth. She is the true definition of a toy addict and is just a joy to have out in the yard. There could be a million things going on around her, but she is only focused on one thing and that’s fetching the ball! She didn’t have much competition today luckily, so she had to play her own little game of fetch. She would sneakily drop the ball at my feet for me to throw it, but the moment I would go to reach for it, she would swoop back in and steal it away. This went on all morning long and she probably could have done it the rest of the day if we let her! She took a much-needed afternoons rest away from the ball to warm up, but sure enough she went looking for it again the moment she set paw into the yard!

Cai, our most handsome daycare pal was excited to see some new faces to his group today. But before interacting, he spent some time exploring the tall snow drifts at the side of the building alongside Sophie. The amount of snow never ceases to amaze our four-legged guests and it brings out the most playful sides! Cai found a new friend in Luigi the Viszla, and these two boys had a busy morning together as they wrestled and danced around, kicking up snow behind them! Cai was very gentle with Luigi, in fact it was Luigi who was begging for more and loved Cai’s spirited personality! Cai definitely burnt off some energy as he tread and wrestled amongst the snowy yard today!

Calvin and Obi enjoyed the company of some of the other cat guests in the cat room this morning. Yesterday, Calvin watched silly boy Tippy as he tried to say hello through the door, and today they got to meet face to face! They roamed the room simultaneously, while Obi kept an eye on his brother and their new friend from the comfort of the shelf under the window. Obi went back and forth between gazing at the falling snow and watching Calvin as Calvin watched Tippy be silly on the floor. Obi was happy to receive some chin scratches and pets while sitting on his perch. Calvin enjoyed a chin scratch, too, before returning to his cubby for a snooze. Later in the day, both boys were curled up, snug as a bug, in their beds, keeping cozy on this chilly day.
