For Gracie's extra attention times, she was very cuddly and attentive for our first session but seemed a bit restless during the second one. She was looking for something to do! Her eyes lit up when I started asking her to do things we've worked on in the past and she happily showed me what she could do, from jumping up and staying on the chair to coming when I called her. The tidbits she got were some of her favorites, so I showed her a treat ball and popped a few in there. Gracie really enjoyed the puzzle of getting those treats out and rolled the ball all over the reception area.
Pepper is having such a great stay with us. She's really warmed up and loves to hang out with everybody. Today, Pepper joined her friend Summit and I for a walk. Summit absolutely loved Pepper, and was all over her! She wasn't in the mood for games and paid more attention to exploring the trail than playing with her walking partner. Pepper was zigzagging back and forth with her nose to the ground and trying to sniff every tree we passed. When we got back from the walk, Pepper was ready to get out of the cold and happily headed up to the kitchen, where it was nice and cozy, and there was lots of people going in and out to give Pepper cuddles. Next it was time for her extra attention. Pepper seemed to know exactly what time it was and happily followed me to the playroom. At first she just wanted to check out the room and was nosing around in the pile of toys. Then she made her way to the window, where Pepper spent some time watching the yard and enjoying the sun. I grabbed some toys hoping that would encourage Pepper to play. She suddenly got very excited and ran circles around the room, while barking for me to throw the toys. I tossed her a ring toy and Pepper quickly chased after it. She was so wound up that she flew right over the toy and kept running around. Eventually Pepper settled down so I had her sit, lay down and shake a paw in return for another toy. We cuddled for a while, and then Pepper headed back to her bed for a little while before groups. She still seemed to have her energy when we went outside with the other dogs! While everyone was saying hello, Pepper wandered around and made sure everything was in place. Then she noticed Shadow running around after a toy. Pepper bounced after her and they played together for a while. After that, Pepper spent some time hanging out with the other dogs in her group. She sniffed around with both of the Maggies and ran around with Bruno. Next it was my turn. Pepper and I snuggled for a while until everybody was cold enough to head inside!
Bruno is such a funny little guy. He's always on the move! Today he could hardly wait to get groups starting and was bouncing around in his kennel when I came to get him. Since it's still quite cold out, I grabbed his jacket, and Bruno was so excited that it was a challenge to get it all buckled up. Once he was nice and bundled up, he practically flew out the door after his group. Shadow had started running around right away and Bruno quickly went to join her. He bounced around with her and Pepper for a while, and then noticed me taking pictures and ran over to say hello. I gave him a pat on the head, although I couldn't keep his attention for long and soon Bruno was heading off again. He wandered over to where the snow had melted and spent some time sniffing around. His nose eventually led him back to the other yard, where Bruno decided to have a good roll in the snow. All four feet were flailing while he wriggled around. He caught Pepper's attention and she came over to see what he was doing. Bruno quickly hopped up, and then flopped right over again on the other side. It must have felt pretty good! Once he was finished rolling, Bruno wandered towards the group of dogs in the other yard and played a bit with his friend Cara.
For his extra attention, Bruno and I headed to the playroom, where he immediately started running around. He bounced onto the couch, gave it a quick sniff and then made his way toward the pile of toys. After Bruno had checked out each one, he went to the window. I scooped him up so he could see outside and he had a good long look at the yard before wriggling to be put down. Next we went back to the toys. I tossed a ring toy for him and Bruno was happy to chase it, until he discovered a bone instead! He chewed on that for a while, then Bruno decided to lay down beside me and get a belly rub.
Sadie, as always, was in a great mood today. She enjoyed a walk with her friend Chloe and was eager to get outside to explore the trail. For her group time, to give her a change of scenery, we headed out front for a walk down the driveway, and after that we made our way to the lounge. While we were walking, Sadie had her nose down the whole time and made sure to take it slow so that she could sniff everything. Whenever she walked past a patch of snow or grass that was particularly interesting, Sadie would put the brakes on and snuffle around for a good minute. Although it was nice and sunny outside, the wind was quite cold so Sadie didn't mind when we turned around to go to the lounge. She was very excited to explore the room. Her first stop was the couches; she gave each of them a good sniff and then picked her favourite to climb onto. Of course, she didn't stay there for long as there was lots of other things to check out. Once everything had been thoroughly investigated to Sadie's satisfaction, she wandered over to say hello to me. Sadie snuggled up with me and enjoyed a nice back rub. She's such a happy girl! After that, I got her to show me all of her tricks. Sadie quickly sat, laid down and offered me her paw when I asked. She had plenty of cuddles as a reward for being so good. When we headed back to the main building, Sadie got sidetracked by a scent in the snow, so we had another short walk before we eventually made it inside.
Sophie was such a sweetheart in the yard today. Usually she takes an interest in some toys and also wants lots of cuddles, but today she was in full-on cuddle mode. I pet her as soon as we got outside. She cuddled up to me when I knelt down on the ground and rested her head against me, looking up at me with a huge smile on her face. She would sometimes wander off to see her friends as well. Today, Seamus and Zim were both after the tennis ball and Sophie considered joining in as well. She sniffed the ball while it was in Seamus’ mouth and then turned back around and barked at me, letting me know she was on her way over for some more cuddles. She pressed herself right up against my legs again and I gave her a good ear rub. At the end of her group time, Sophie decided it would be worthwhile to play for the last few minutes. She picked up the stick-shaped nylabone and brought it to me. I threw it for her and she leaped up to get it, except she missed and she scrambled onto the ground and picked it up. She dropped it at my feet and then wandered to the door. I guess that was all she needed, what a cutie.
Seamus and Quincy were so cute today! It was the first time I had the pleasure of spending time with them in the yard and they are both a real treat. Seamus loves to snuggle. He nestled himself right into my lap today while I sat on the ground. I love when he does his little smiling thing and then gives me a soft little bark, letting me know that he needs to be pet. I snuggled with Seamus for a bit while his younger brother bounced around the yard with his friend Finnigan. Quincy loved Finnigan today, and followed him around the yard. He and Finnigan played a little bit and then I got Seamus and Quincy to play with the tennis ball with him. They carried the tennis ball around like it was their favorite treasure. Quincy especially loved the ball. It is too funny watching them both try and catch it. They stand there looking very excited with their tails wagging back and forth, and today, I tossed it lightly into the air and Seamus simply opened his mouth and waited for the ball to land perfectly. It didn’t of course and it ended up bouncing off of Seamus and bumping into Quincy. Quincy then picked it up and carried it around like the happiest guy ever. I loved spending time with these two today! In the afternoon, the three of us spent some time together up in the front reception area. We all snuggled on the ground together, with Qiuncy sitting right in front of me, giving me some kisses while I pet his ears. Seamus was laying down on his back and I was rubbing his belly with my free hand. We sat there together for a bit longer and then Quincy got up and explored around the room. His nose caught the scent of the treat ball and he was digging his nose into it, trying to get the treats. He rolled it around for a bit, but slowly grew impatient and came to me for some treats. I got some from the jar and both boys sat very handsomely for their treats. They enjoyed their little snack and then went back to their kennel to snuggle with their stuffies in their comfy beds.
Chloe had a wonderful first day with us! She was looking adorable today in her sweater! Her friends Burley and Babette were jealous of her cozy sweater on her walk today. Chloe was joined by these two later on in her group too! She met some new friends and reunited with some old ones, including her friend Phoebe, who is also all about the toys. Chloe’s toy of choice today was the big jolly ball. She pounced right onto it when she got in the yard and devoted the rest of her attention to the ball. She grabbed it by the sides where the holes were and carried it around for as long as she could before Phoebe came and tried to steal it. She and Phoebe ended up both grabbing an end and tugging at it as hard as they could. Chloe eventually came out with it and then she and I played fetch for a little while. Chloe was so happy to be back that I had to hold onto the ball and pull her back inside with it, because she was having so much fun.
Calvin and Obi had lots of entertainment in the cat room today! They took turns having the room to themselves with a few other kitty guests but they really mostly enjoyed it when it was just them as a couple of the other cats are very busy indeed. Today they spent most of their time curled up or sprawled in their cozy beds and much preferred when I came to them to pet them than coming out to see me. They were both more active this evening after supper so it was a good thing that it was their turn to have the room to themselves tonight!
