Charlotte had another five-star day with her friends today. She started her morning off with a great trail walk, accompanied by husky friends Isis and Sky. Charlotte loved following their tracks through the deep snow as well as stopping to sniff whenever she had the chance. In the yard, Charlotte kept very busy with her young, playful group mates. She was keen to see Windy, Ruby, and Mika again. After saying her hellos she broke off with Ruby for some play time. Ruby and Charlotte love to romp around in the snow. The snow practically flies all around as they bat at each other and roll around. Ruby and Charlotte are a great pair for wrestling as well as running. Charlotte is so speedy as she zooms around the yard. Whenever she crosses paths with Sophie she stops to say hello and then returns to her games. Sophie was pretty content hanging out in a protected area of the yard today. Sophie wasn’t too keen on all the deep snow we received. She was mostly content spending her time by my side accepting loads of pets and cuddles rather than playing around with her young sister. Sophie loves to rub herself against our legs when she is outdoors, asking so politely for attention. No one ever says no to miss Sophie. She ends up spending her whole time outside being loved endlessly, while Charlotte and friends zoom around.
For their extra attention time today, Sophie got as much love as she could from Leah and Susan while Charlotte explored around and checked out the treat puzzle, hoping to find some more goodies in there. She stopped and got some love from Leah while Sophie settled down beside the desk while Susan was working. While Sophie snoozed contently, Windy came up for a little extra play time with her best friend, Charlotte.
Windy had so much fun today. She started her day off with a great trail walk, accompanied by one of her good friends. Windy loves to chat away while on walks. She will put her nose to the ground and motor ahead, and then turn around and chat away – letting you know what she came across in the snow, which she loves to sniff. In the yard, Windy was absolutely infatuated with Jake the bloodhound. From the moment they met it was love. Windy didn’t leave his side for the remainder of her time outdoors. Windy loves Jake’s play style, which involves a lot of gentle boxing around as well as rolling in the snow. Jake and Windy are very patient with one another, alternating mouthing at the other one and pouncing all over each other while the opposing friend lies on the ground. They continued these games for ages, occasionally stopping to include other group mates. Windy really enjoys the company of fellow golden, Charlotte as well as boxer Mika, and Sheepadoodle puppy, Ruby. She stays so busy throughout all her outings.
For Windy’s training today, we started off right out of the kennel. She was asked to sit at each door as we made our way up to the front of the building. While I was getting ready, I left Windy in the playroom and when I came back, she was busy with a chew bone. So we practiced “out” as I traded the chew bone for a nice liver treat and Windy was very good at it. Next we did some place work with a mat on the floor and Windy seemed to really understand both what place was and that she had to stay on it until released. What a good girl. I was very proud of her! We had a couple of less than perfect downs when Leah joined us in the playroom, but adding distractions is just what training is all about, so we continued to work on it and Windy did fine, especially when she was back to place. Her recall was very good as well and she even interrupted her play with Jake outside today to come when called. We rounded off our training time with a walk to the mail box and Windy was not exactly walking loose leash but she was quite good about not pulling too much and when we got back, Windy joined her bff Charlotte in the reception area for some play as a reward for all her hard work.
Maya had so much fun with her group today. She could not have been happier to re-unite with a fellow daycare friend, DJ. DJ and Maya are both tall “small dogs”, who give the whole group a run for their money. This duo spend so much time together motoring in circles around the yard. DJ is one of the few dogs that can get Maya distracted enough from Rocky to join in on all the fun and games. Maya was so busy racing around with DJ that she barely noticed she was chest deep in snow. Finally, when she was tired out she met up with Toast. Toast is a lovely Corgi who also can keep Maya very busy. Maya loved romping around with Toast, despite the obvious size difference. The pair were hilarious romping around in the snow, mouthing one another and wrestling all around. Maya was so pleased with her busy day she couldn’t have been happier to cuddle up next to her brother for a nap after all the games were done. Rocky has been such a trooper with all this snow. We have received about twice the amount of snow as Rocky’s height. He always lets the bigger dogs plow through the yard before he even dares to adventure past the doorway. With some confidence, he does wander into the bigger yard to check things out. As soon as he realizes there are intense games going on he always makes his way to the safe area by the door where he is protected from all the shenanigans. Rocky was happy to be held and cuddled today. I spent some time picking all the snow out of his long hair before he returned to the ground to do some sniffing and exploring.
Benji is such a lovely boy to have around. He had so much fun on his morning walk, accompanied by two fellow smaller dogs. The deep snow was a bit of a challenge, but he made it through with a lot of courage. I can always count on Benji to give me lots of cuddles when we are in the yard. Today he was very keen on hanging out by my side, accepting loads of pets and cuddles. He was also curious as to what all the snow was about. He spent a lot of time wandering around with his more independent friends, sniffing and exploring the yard. Benji loved walking along the edge of the building where the snow hadn’t fallen, sniffing the few remaining pebbles. He was very good at climbing up the big snow mountains and then back down into the ravines. HE kept himself very busy doing this. Benji briefly joined in on some running and playing with his friends but was happy to return to my side for more attention before it was time to head back indoors.
Toast had such a fun day. We have received so much snow in the last day, which he is a big fan of. His little legs don’t stop him from much. Toast was so quick to meet up with the ever so speedy DJ. He put in 110% effort to keep up to DJ who spent his entire time today bolting around the yard, through the deep snow full speed. The difference between DJ and Toast is that DJ has long lanky limbs, while Toast has much shorter legs. Nevertheless, Toast motored after DJ with all his might. Toast plowed through the snow with such ease, it was hilarious to watch. Occasionally he would stop to catch his breath, but it was hard to tell that he was lying down rather than standing. DJ loved having all the attention on him today. He was sure to keep Toast following him around along with other playmates including Maya, Timbits and Coco. DJ was so speedy running around the yard with his ears flapping. After laps and laps of the yard everyone broke off to take a break. While exploring, DJ met up with his sister for some time together. Toast on the other hand didn’t take much time to relax. He met up with Maya and they were a hot pair. They wrestled all around the yard and in the deep snow mouthing at one another non-stop. Jt was very cute to watch. When group time was over both DJ and Toast were exhausted, and couldn’t wait to take a nap in their kennel before their next outing.
Tinkerbell enjoyed her day with us. She really enjoyed all the fresh snow throughout the yard, as it provided her with a lot to sniff and explore. DJ was sure to check up on his sister whenever he remembered. Rather than being excited to see him, she would scurry away afraid of him inviting her to join in on his games. Once he turned away from her, she would run after him asking him to please continue paying attention to her. They have a funny relationship; it’s cute to watch. Tinkerbell loved scaling the tops of the snow piles, investigating everything her nose could find. She kept very busy doing this as her outdoor time passed. She also enjoyed some time on my lap being pet and cuddled.
Daycare pals Bella and Finnigan were excited to head outside with the predominately Husky group for a morning of play. We love seeing Bella on Wednesdays; she just adores her Husky pals Kyah and Justice and always knows how to get the party started! But all this fresh snow called for some serious snow-rolls for both Finn and Bella, who were seen rolling around on their backs in excitement making dog-angels! Now that the rolls were out of the way, they were ready to play; Bella lunged towards Justice excitedly to get the chase across the yard started. Sure enough, the whole gang was racing behind them, including Husky pals Nymeria and Storm. Huskies always know how to have a good time and the fun never ended this morning. The pack was on the move, but always made sure to stop by the agility tunnel for their daily meeting where they all crowded around in excitement. Then Nymeria would leap away starting another epic chase across the yard. Everyone wanted to catch up to this fun loving redheaded Husky, including Storm, who was trying his best to keep up with this agile girl! Once everyone was out of breath, they would all gather in the snow for a group wrestle; there were so many moving bodies around and fun to be had!
Charlie and Max had a morning full of fun with their favourite four-legged friends! Charlie was excited to see his best pal Cooper the yellow lab and wasted no time trying to get his attention to play. Cooper loved the attention from this gentle giant and started running circles around the yard to see if Charlie could catch him. Charlie took him up on the offer and started running after him and with those long legs of his, he caught up in no time and with a gentle paw to the back, the wrestle was on! Meanwhile, Max was occupied with his very own Husky pack including the ever playful Nyxx and Jynxx who were just begging for his attention to play! Max was immediately accepted into this pack and learnt the true ways of rambunctious Husky play. With Charlie and Cooper to one side and Max with the Huskies to the other, they could have kept playing all day long if we let them, but they were due for an afternoon rest before they headed back out to do it all over again!
Next up was the Max and Sadie show, always an entertaining show as you can imagine! More snow they thought and were just thrilled to be back in our care for a day of play. Max whipped around that yard like there was no tomorrow while Sadie’s head was immediately buried in the snow in exploration. Max and Sadie always like to end their morning with a wrestle in the snow, but first Max must run his long legs out and Sadie must sniff out the yard. They don’t like to change their routine up too often but boy do they love to play and play they did, all group long like the silly pups they are. At one point, they both collapsed in the snow in excitement and posed for a pretty picture for me. These two always know how to bring a smile on my face, even on the snowiest of days!
