Max E. had a great day to start off his stay with us. He was bouncing on his feet when I came to get him for his group and wasted no time racing out the door. Once we were in the yard, Max didn’t know what to do first! He started out by running around to say hello to all of the dogs. Max happily bounded over to see Brutus and Bush, and the three of them gave each other a thorough sniff before they went trotting off together. Max wandered around with those two for a while, until something else distracted him. He went running across the yard towards Fergus, who quickly leaped out of the way, and then Max spun around and thundered off in the opposite direction. He was so excited that he couldn’t stay still! I found some toys for the dogs, and as soon as Max heard one of them squeaking he raced over to check it out. He preferred the rope toy to the squeaky bone, so we decided to play fetch with that. Max got ready to chase after it, and he was so focused that as soon as I moved, Max went hurtling through the snow and made it a good distance before realizing I still had the toy. He didn’t seem to want to actually fetch the toys today, so instead he chased after the rope toy and bone while I threw them. Max was nudging the bone around with his nose when suddenly Brutus appeared and play-bowed in front of him. This got Max all wound up and he started racing in circles. When he slowed down, Bush trotted over to see what was going on. Max then play-bowed to him and ran off again. Bush followed him around at a slower pace while Brutus was galloping after Max. While Max was tearing across the yard, he noticed the rope toy in the snow and almost somersaulted when he tried to grab it as he was flying past. After another attempt, Max successfully retrieved his toy and proudly carried it around to show the others. He played a few more rounds of fetch with me, chased Brutus around, and had lots of fun bounding through the snow until it was time for us to head inside. Max happily headed right to his kennel and curled up for a nap!
Hudson, as always, was feeling quite playful. He and his friend Buddy were already chasing each other around in the first group of the day! Next up it was time for walks. Hudson was so excited he could hardly wait for me to put his leash on and open the door. He joined up with his friend Riley and the two of them hurried outside. Once we were on the trail, Hudson was zigzagging back and forth while he attempted to sniff every tree we went past. A few times he wandered off the path and ended up shoulder-deep in snow, which would have him leaping through it like a deer until he landed on solid ground again. About halfway through the walk, Hudson suddenly decided that he wanted to play and then pounced at Riley. She happily obliged and the two of them starting to wrestle and race circles around me. It was a challenge keeping the leashes organized! They continued to play for a while until they both ran out of breath and went back to exploring the trail. Somehow, after that eventful walk, Hudson still had plenty of energy. He knew exactly what time it was when his group was heading outside, and Hudson was sitting at his kennel door waiting to join them. He did his best to sit still but he was so excited that he was practically buzzing! Hudson was the one to get playtime started today and he wasted no time racing over to Buddy and nearly tackling him to the ground. This caught Blue’s attention as well, and he came over to leap on both of them. Soon the three boys were wrestling and rolling around in the snow. Then Hudson discovered a rope toy. He hurried to grab it but wasn’t fast enough and soon both Buddy and Blue had noticed. Hudson flew across the yard with the other two right on his tail. He caught the attention of Windy and Phoebe, and it didn’t take long before the girls had joined in as well. Eventually the other dogs seemed to forget the toy and everybody was just running all over the place, with Hudson right in the middle!
Riley and Roobee had yet another excellent day today! Roobee is getting even more comfortable every day, as per usual. This morning when I went to let Riley and Roobee out, Roobee came right up to me and greeted me with a sniff on the hand before going out into the yard. Riley then jumped over and gave me a big kiss once he saw me before racing into the yard. Riley was extra playful today and definitely kept his energy up throughout the entire day. Roobee took this first morning outing as a bit of time to wake herself up and get read for the day. While she was doing that, Riley was bouncing all over the place to get his energy out. He would come over and pounce at me so I'd pounce back at him which would send him racing around the yard. When it came to their morning walk, Riley and Roobee were very excited. Once I had gotten their leashes on them, both of them trotted to the door and waited for me to join them. They definitely kept me on my toes today, especially Riley. Riley was the leader for the most part of the walk. He'd be at the end of his leash for a good part of the walk unless his nose took over and then he would usually end up somewhere among the trees. Roobee enjoyed following Riley anywhere he went which is what made the walk so fast and energetic. Whenever Riley would run to the end of hi leash, Roobee would be following right behind, as well as going as fast as him. This led to a bit of a faster walk as I was trying to keep up with them all the time. Next up was their long outdoor playgroup. Riley was so very excited to go out and see his friends today. Roobee was quite excited as well, but she was more excited about all of the smells in the yard. Once they go outside, Riley immediately started playing while Roobee started sniffing. Riley was attached to a new friend named Muggins who he quickly became friends with. He spent most of his group time sprinting around the yard with her and even enjoyed play tackling for half of the time. It all started once I had grabbed a bright orange and blue ball out of the yard for them. Once I showed it to Riley he knew that he needed to get it and so we played fetch for a little while. However, our game stopped once Muggins came in and started chasing after Riley with the ball. Riley loved the action and kept the race going until the end of his group time. Roobee had a very active playgroup as well but hers was from running after Riley to see what he was doing. She followed him every he went with Muggins but didn't want to join in on the game herself. Instead she watched from afar and showed off her voice. Roobee came and stood beside me in the snow so that she could get a back scratch. After a long back scratch, she continued with her sniffing and even ended the group off by racing around with Riley for a few laps of the yard.
When I went to grab Riley and Roobee for their training today, the two of them were ecstatic! Roobee actually led the way for Riley once they got out of their kennels this time. The two of them followed me up to the front reception so that we could start with basic commands. I had both of them doing a variety of commands such as sit, stay, lie down and paw. Riley was eager to try everything right away so he remained by my side and waited every time. No matter which trick I asked Riley to do, he was ready and executed them perfectly. Roobee was a bit distracted by the treats at the beginning but once she realized what she was supposed to be doing she did an excellent job! At the end of their training time I had the two of them preforming their tricks side by side and they looked adorable. Every time I'd ask them to sit or lay down they were completely in sync. In the afternoon it was time for their extra attention. I decided to take them on a long walk in the back forest for their extra attention today. Once Riley and Roobee saw the leashes they started getting excited. Roobee showed off her powerful voice while Riley did a couple circles around the kennel in anticipation. I got them hooked up and then we were off! Riley raced to the end of his leash and this time he was solely focused on the scents in the yard. He constantly had his nose pressed right to the ground while searching for all of the things he was smelling. Roobee wasn't quite interested but she still followed Riley to see if he found anything. Roobee enjoyed coming a bit closer to me and getting a short head scratch before running off to Riley again. The two of them were pretty relaxed for the rest of the walk and were excited to get a special treat when they went back into their kennel.
