Birdie was super hyper when she ran out of her kennel and down the hall to join her group outside this morning. She flew out the door and began to sniff around the ground as everyone else was making their way outside. She was trotting around by the door as some of the dogs began to go up to her and say hello. Birdie seemed so determined to stay focused on exploring that she kept her head down and continued on. She ran over to the picnic table and began to use her nose to guide her around it, then once she was done she lifted her head up to look around and then jumped up on top of it to get a better look at all of the dogs. She watched them as they ran around and once she noticed me playing fetch with another dogs, Birdie couldn’t hold back her excitement anymore and she jumped right off the picnic table to run over to me. Birdie started to run around me in circles but she didn’t realize that I’d already thrown the ball! She kept on doing it until one of the other dogs ran back with it and she noticed that he had it instead of me. As he was trying to set it down for me Birdy started to chase after him determined that she would be able to get the ball from him. They ran into the further yard and she started to jump around, hoping that he would drop his prize. I finally managed to get the ball from them and these two sat right at my feet and both wagged their tails until I threw it again. The first few throws Birdie chased after the ball and her playmate, who kept snagging it out of the air. Once she finally caught the ball she was so happy and began to prance around the yard with it to show it off to everyone. I took Birdie back out into the yard this afternoon for her extra attention time. I brought out a selection of toys for her to choose from, and her favourite was definitely the blue rubber ball. I threw it as many times as Birdie wanted to run and catch it, and eventually she decided that she’d like to hold onto it instead of give it back to me. I sat down in the grass and gave Birdie some pets while she relaxed for a few minutes. Before I knew it, Birdie was back up and running around the yard with her blue ball. She wanted to play more fetch, but really didn’t want to give up her ball, which was a dilemma. I started throwing the orange ball across the yard so that Birdie didn’t have to put the blue one down but could still run and chase it. She liked this idea and we played half-fetch for the rest of our time together.
Abbie and Jock had a very laid back start to their day. They moseyed out into the yard and chose a spot by the fence where they could watch their friends as they roamed around. They stood there until I called them over to me while I was further in the yard, and Jock decided to get up and walk over to come and see me while Abbie stayed where she was. Jock began to sniff around the gravel to explore and after a bit Abbie decided that she wanted to sniff around as well. She didn’t walk all the way over to where Jock was and stayed near the more quiet dogs by the door as she started to sniff around. She smelled along the fence and picked at all of the leaves that were growing out through the cracks of it. Jock continued to wander around away from Abbie when he noticed some of the dogs running around playing with each other and he walked right over to them to see what was going on. They all paused their play session to sniff Jock as he said hi to them. They took turns sniffing each other quickly then Jock let them get back to their business and he walked away. He walked back over to go and see Abbie and when she saw Jock coming she started to walk towards him as well and they met in the middle of the yard. Abbie hung around with Jock for the rest of the time they were outside and kept each other company. When all of the dogs ran back over after they were running around and playing Jock decided to walk over to them again and maybe give playing a chance. He jumped up on a dog that was near him and stood against them waiting for them to react, the other dog didn’t do anything for a moment then all of a sudden jumped around and play bowed toward Jock. He got a burst of energy and ran all the way back across the yard towards Abbie.
Abby and Dudley were both so curious when they went out in the yard with their group this morning. They walked right out the door to join the other small dogs in the yard and Abby took off right away to begin her day. Dudley stayed back at first to wander around the door with the more quiet dogs and didn’t join Abby until much later. She took her time at first to smell all along the fence and the patches of grass in the gravel yard and made her way all the way up to the other yard. She stood at the entrance debating whether or not she wanted to walk in but after a minute of staring at the big field of grass she hopped over the bottom of the gate and started to prance around the yard on her own. Dudley was wandering around the gravel ard with some of the more quiet dogs, when he saw Abby run into the other yard he began to watch her and barely took his eyes off of her until some of the other dogs walked over to him to say hi. They all gave each other some sniffs and they walked around in a circle for a bit until Dudley decided to continue on exploring on his own. When I walked into the further yard to go and see Abby a few of the more playful dogs chased after me and started to wander around in there as well. As some of the dogs began to play Abby stopped sniffing around and popped her head up to stare at them as they were playing. She ran around the yard on the other side of them to meet them in the middle as they were playing tag. When she got close to them she turned around and stood at the end of the yard to continue watching them instead of joining in with all of the fun. When she stopped watching them she started walking around the grass again until she walked over to a big hole and she stuck her head in to start sniffing around then walked back over to see Dudley. Dudley was wandering around with the other dogs again, when the playful guys ran back to the door he started to jump all over them and play. He would run around them in circles then jump up randomly on their backs until they jumped back on him. For their extra attention this morning both Abby and Dudley came up to the front reception with me to hang out and get some cuddles. They like to get lots of love during their time with us so whenever I do their extra attention I give them as many cuddles as possible. At first when they ran up they began to trot around the room to sniff around. Dudley seemed to be really curious about the desk and ran right underneath it to lay down. Abby hopped up on the big chair and sat with me for a while as Dudley stayed in his place. Abby gave me so many kisses as I was petting her that it made Dudley jealous. Eventually he came walking over to see me as well and sat between my legs when I got on the floor to get some cuddles too. I brought out some treats for them and Abby gladly took one and chewed on it for a few minutes. They started to explore more after then once they were done walked back over to me to be pet more.
Pelley is such a joy to have staying with us here. She gets along with all of the dogs that go outside with her and loves every person she gets the chance to meet. When she walked outside this morning she seemed so excited and was ready to play right away. She stood by the door to greet all of the dogs as they came outside. She was jumping up and down while she got to sniff each of them. As some of the dogs took off further into the yard she decided to go and join them and ran over to the middle of the yard and began to follow them around as they started to explore. Pelley decided to do the same for a bit and began to sniff around the gravel. She then walked over to the grass and trotted around the picnic table. She stood there for a while she was shoving her nose in the grass. There must have been a hidden treat in the ground or something since she was so interested in one spot. Once she was done she ran off into the further yard and started to run around on her own. She ran in circles and did laps around the yard as some of the dogs walked over to join her. She walked over to the agility tunnel after she was done running around for a while and poked her head in the hole to check it out. She gave it a sniff but decided to continue to run around instead. She ran over to the agility jump and jumped over the pole so proudly as some of the dogs chased after her. But they didn’t jump over it and ran straight through, unlike Pelley. After she was tired from running around for so long she walked over to the pool and dove right in the water nose first. She laid in the cool water and began to drink it at the same time. After she was done cooling off she stood up and jumped back out to shake her wet fur all over me!
Finnigan is always so much fun to have around. The moment he got in the yard he stuck his nose to the ground, in search for a toy. He was pleased to be accompanied by Rupert, who also loves toys and fetch. After finding a big, black, Kong toy, Finn began pouncing around the yard with it in his mouth with great pride. It didn’t take long for his group-mate, Kaos, to spot him flailing around and began to follow him. Kaos wasn’t too sure what the big deal was, as the black toy blended in with Finn very well. Once she got closer and realized he had a prize in his mouth she picked up the speed and the following turned into a full on chase. Finnigan was thrilled to have someone chase him. He dropped the toy, and really picked up the speed in order to stay in the lead. He motored as fast as his legs could get him going and darted behind the fence and came out the other side going even faster. Kaos wasn’t far off his tail as they dodged a couple obstacles, as well as myself and other dogs. She finally caught up to him and leapt right onto his back. Finnigan, acting all shy, rolled onto his back as if he couldn’t take it. I think Finn was just disappointed to be caught, so he played the cute role to make up for it. As Finn was lying on his back, sprawled out, Kaos and Max did a bunch of circles around him sniffing. He began flailing his arms around which only drew more attention to him. Kaos finally play bowed to him, then bolted off, which started yet another chase around the yard. This chase lasted much longer, as the pair alternated being in the lead. They sprinted as fast as they could around the entire yard with giant smiles on their faces throughout the whole match. Finally, after the duo was out of breath, Finn made his way to his favourite pool to cool down. Kaos followed him with a big smile on her face, but the moment she saw him hop in, sending water flying, she took off the other way. Kaos and I hung out side by side while Finnigan dunked himself numerous times getting as soaked as possible. Without even shaking off, Finn lept out of the pool and began zipping around once more. Kaos was right on his tail with her ears flapping in the wind. Kaos was then distracted by her other group mates hanging around, so she took off on her own to do some exploring. Meanwhile, Finn had found himself a wonderful treasure of a toy. It was a multi coloured rope toy, which had him beaming. He bound across the yard with the toy flapping about in his mouth. Finnigan’s personality resonates through his bounce across the yard when he has a toy in his mouth. It is a great visual description of him. After settling down for a good chew on the rope it was time to head indoors. Kaos and Finn were happy to relax in their kennels until it was time to go out again, where the games were quick to pick up where they left off.
Wednesday is wonderful, because Bella joins us. I will always have a soft spot for this sweet lady. Bella wasn’t as keen to play around today, as she was much too focused on all the smells in the yard. Bella made her way around the perimeter of the yard with her nose to the ground, carefully scaling along the rocks. When she found a good smell between rocks, she would burry her muzzle deep in between them. After getting as far in between as possible, she would come up for air and let out a sneeze, from nuzzling her nose in the dirt. After the perimeter was safely investigated, Bella made her way into the grassy portion of the yard to do some more sniffing. In the grassy yard Bella loves to kick up the grass and roll in the wet grass in between sniffs. After a little bit of convincing, Bella came out of her shell and joined in on portion of the chase going on between Finn and Kaos. Rather than getting right in on the chase, Bella pounced around next to the duo, carefully supervising their every move. Once Bella was content with the amount of playing she participated in, she made her way to the pool. Today Bella didn’t want to lie down in the pool, she was very happy to wade around and splash. After dipping her paws, Bella made her way back into the yard where she met up with Oakley and Max. She really enjoyed Max's company and his silly personality. Bella was pleased to spend the remainder of her time outdoors sniffing and exploring until it was time to head indoors for a lunchtime treat.
Max had an awesome last day with us. We loved his company throughout his visit. He was a great boy for his bath; it’s no secret that he loves the water. He wasn’t as sure about the blow-drying as the bath, but he toughed it out like the big boy he is. Luckily, Max was bathed after his group because as usual he found himself in the pool. It never surprises me to see the labs enjoying our pool. After Max splashed around in the water he made his way over to two of his younger group-mates who were goofing around. Finn and Kaos are always fun and outgoing and looking for new friends to join in on their games. Max was more than happy to tag along in the fun today. Finn and Kaos were having a blast looping around the yard and wrestling. Max loved chasing after them, with his ears flapping in the wind. Every once in a while he would break away from the games and make his way over to me looking for some attention. If I didn’t offer him immediate pats and cuddles he would stand, staring at me, and then start to bark. He sure knows how to get what he wants; because of course he got some nice ear scratches and cuddles. After fulfilling his needs for attention Max would make his way back over to Finn and Kaos to see what they were up to. Without any hesitation he joined back in on their games. Later on, after Max was all played out, he met up with the beautiful Bella. These two hung about side by side enjoying one another’s company, until it was time to head indoors. Max was eager to go back outside this afternoon for his extra attention time. Since it's such a nice day we went for a second walk around the field trail. We wandered at Max's pace and he took his time to sniff around in the long grass as we walked long. He was such a good boy! Max enjoyed a nice walk this afternoon for his extra attention time. We wandered all around the trail, letting Max's nose be our guide. It was such a beautiful afternoon, I think Max would have stayed outside all day!
It’s a pleasure to see miss Oakley after so many weeks without her company. After fussing around up front, playing her usual silly games, she was happy to get into the back and head into her kennel. It didn’t take her long to find a comfy spot on her cot where she curled up in a ball and rested her eyes until her walk. After her nice walk along the trail she was pleased to be served her meal, which she slowly nibbled on. By the time morning groups rolled around, Oakley was keen to get out in the yard and explore. It didn’t take any convincing to get her out the door and into the agility yard today. She was quick to motor out the door and head out with her nose to the ground. Oakley was very adventurous at the start of groups. She kept her nose in the grass and motored around the grassy area of the yard picking up on every scent she has missed out on since being gone. After exploring the greenery, Oakley made her to each and every boulder where she slowly investigated them. After doing some intense exploring, Oakley made her way over to my side where she asked for her favourite thing; pets and cuddles. It wasn’t long before the company of another staff member in the yard pleasantly surprised Oakley. It’s easy to tell when Oakley is very happy, her ears perk up and her whole bum wags back and forth along with her tail. She was thrilled to have the company of two people outdoors with her. This meant double the pets and cuddles. After settling down by my side, and sticking her head between my legs, Oakley accepted some good scratches behind the ears and down her sides. She finally took the initiative to head off on her own and do some exploring once more. It wasn’t long before she realized there wasn’t a human near by, and came bolting back to me with a big smile on her face.
