Max E. kept me very busy in the yard today. He is an absolute toy-aholic, and won’t go a minute without dropping something at your feet. His fun in the yard started out with the Jolly ball. This toy has had Max moving since it was brought out yesterday. He was very quick to find it in the yard, grab it, and bring it to my feet. I didn’t kick it for him right away, so he stood at my feet dancing around. His paws were moving a mile a minute and his eyes were fixated on the Jolly ball until I gave it a great boot across the yard. He bolted after it, leaping over a rock and swerving around a dog in the yard. He got it and returned it back to my feet within seconds. We continue this for quite some time until Max needed a break. He found a nice spot in the shade where he lay down with his toy. When he wa ready he headed over to the pool where he cooled off before making his way back out in the yard. He hunted around for a new toy to play with, and was successful. Max found a new blue Frisbee lying in the grass. It took him some time to get his it off the ground and get a hold of it. When he finally had it in his mouth he came bounding towards me as if he had just discovered a buried treasure. He and I played a couple rounds of fetch with the Frisbee before he took another break in the shade. Before it was time to head in, Max enjoyed the pool with his friends once more.

I enjoyed a nice walk with Percy and his two friends Anejo and Stella this morning. Percy was so excited to get clipped to a leash and get the show on the road. When he saw me walking down the hall he began bouncing around his kennel. I asked him to sit for me, which he did ever so fast, then he got hooked up and we were off. Percy motored along the trail with his nose to the ground for practically the entire walk. He enjoys walking at the very end of the leash, scurrying left to right on the path, ensuring the check out all the smells. By the time we were back at his kennel he was ready for a nap to gain some energy for playtime. Out in the yard today Percy was very keen to explore the yard. He checked out all his group mates, followed by sniffing the perimeter of the yard. He then spotted Kyah wandering through the tunnel and decided to check that out as well. He did a couple loops through, and around the tunnel before coming over to me for some cuddles. Percy enjoyed a nice pat on the bum and a good scratch behind the ears. He then saw his pals in the pool and zoomed over to enjoy the cool water. He leaped in, causing a bit of a splash, which lead his mates to flee from the pool. He was just as happy to have the pool all to himself.  He spent the remaining time in the yard watching his friends play and doing a wonderful job of being the referee.

Paisley and I had a great walk this morning with two more poodle pals, GlendaLou and Gryphon. Paisley seems to be very pleased with all the other poodles surrounding her on this visit. Paisley is a great walker; she sticks right by your side the entire walk, only straying to do her business and chase butterflies. There was one big butterfly that really got her attention; she had a very difficult time leaving it be and continuing on along the path. She was happy to see another one later on and followed it around for a while. Paisley was keen to head out in the yard today and greet all of her group mates. She wandered around from dog to dog, saying her hellos, prior to exploring the yard. After she got all her sniffing in she noticed there was some action going on in the pool. Paisley was very eager to leap in the pool but her pal Tatoo was splashing all around. Once Tatoo cleared out of the pool Paisley leaped in and enjoyed cooling her paws off. After this she head back in to the yard where she adventured around with her pals, stopping every once in the while to cool off in the pool on this warm September day.

Egan is such a social butterfly. In the yard today he was so thrilled to have a couple new additions to his group. He was zooming around from dog to dog saying his hellos. After he said hi to all his friends, he started over again and checked every one out again. On his second pass around he met up with Titan who really sparked his interest. Egan began pawing at his side, looking for a playmate. Titan wasn’t interested at first, however after a bit of begging on Egans part, Titan gave in. These two then began to zoom around the yard with Titan in the lead an Egan on his tail. Titan darted through the tunnel and then looped back around the agility yard. Every once in a while he would peak over his shoulder checking if Egan was still after him. Egan wasn’t going to let Titan win the race and bolted ahead of him just as they were coming towards me. I found myself leaping out of the way to ensure I didn’t get run over by Egan who was looking over his shoulder rather than where he was going. Egan and Titan put their chase on pause to cool off in the pool. Egan wasn’t too sure about getting in the water at first but once he saw Titan splashing around he briefly dipped his paws in. Later on Egan was happy to hang out by my side and receive some pats and cuddles before it was time to head indoors.

I love hanging out with Keeva. She is always happy, looking for attention and action with either a toy or friends. As Keeva head out in the yard for her mid morning play time she bolted out the door with her nose to the ground in search f a quality toy to play fetch with. Despite there being a nice Frisbee, a tennis ball, and a jolly ball in the yard Keeva decided a deflated mini soccer ball was the best toy for fetch. She raced back to my feet after picking this treasure up and dropped it in between my legs. She backed away a couple of steps and then began dancing back and forth on each paw, barking at me. As I bent down to pick it up she darted forward and snatched it back. I stood there looking at her and she placed it back at my feet. I tried to pick it up again, however she was quick to snatch it before I could grab it. I walked away and she ran after me with it in her mouth, nudging in to me. It must be really tough for dogs to want to ball thrown, but not want to give it up. Finally, Keeva allowed me to take it and throw it across the yard. Once she realized how much fun it was to chase, she left it at my feet each time. We played numerous rounds of fetch until she was tired enough to relax in the shade. Keeva was very happy to sit by my feet and enjoy some pets and scratches while she took a break. Once she was ready to get going again she motored over to the pool where she waded around with a big smile on her face, enjoying this beautiful day with her friends.

Louis was absolutely thrilled with me last night when I brought our futon mattress from the lounge into his kennel. There isn’t any other dog that stays with us who requires a double size mattress as their bed! He has been lounging on this mattress all evening and day, without a worry in the world. Louis was very happy to head out back for a nice walk with me this morning. He loves to stop and sniff the longer grass, which he will then walk through. We spotted a frog along the trail and it caught Louis attention. He wasn’t too sure what to think of it, so he followed it in to the bush then wandered out towards me once it got too far away. By the time we came in the front door Louis was more than ready to accept some love and attention. We head into the playroom where I sat on the couch with Louis at my feet. He was more than happy to accept some good scratches and pets. I brought a brush in with me and this was his all-time favorite. Louis lay across the floor, basking in the sun, thoroughly enjoying a nice brush down his back, sides, and head. As I went over his hip and down his leg he would extend it out and give a big stretch each time. By the end of his extra attention, I had him in a trance. This was a great opportunity to cut his nails. Louis was such a good boy as we pet him and cuddled him to distract him from his pawdicure. Later on in the yard Louis was happy to roam around the yard. He briefly said hello to some of his group maters then continued sniffing and exploring. He was happy to find a spot in the shade and relax there until it was time to head back inside to his comfy mattress.

George went out for a shorter, less organized walk with Merlin this morning. The two older boys meandered and darted here and there, going wherever their noses took them. I practiced some hand signals with both of them, since they don't hear very well and they both caught on very quickly - they loved the treats they got when they came at a hand signal. George and Titan had the lounge to themselves for their extra attention time. It was nice and cool in there and they love to explore. George pounced on a stuffless stuffy as soon as we got in the door, shaking and squeaking it happily. Titan checked out all the doors and windows as well as the couches and seemed quite fascinated by the treadmill. When I invited the boys up onto the couch, George quite happily joined me, and we sat together watching Titan continue to explore. After a while, they switched places and Titan joined me on the couch while George explored Titan soaked up the pets and massages I gave him and then George jumped up to join us. We finished off our time together with another small walk, staying in the shade as the boys explored around the buildings.

Lola is such a happy girl whenever she’s with her brother Joe and almost sister Vega. These three can be so mischievous together but today they were acting like the angels they truly are. Especially Lola. When she went outside for her group this morning Lola was super excited to see all of her friends in the hallway as they were coming out of their kennel to go outside. She ran up to all of them and jumped up onto their backs to say hi as they ran out the door. Once her and everyone else got into the yard she began to sniff around. She stayed on the gravel at first as she roamed around the yard as her nose led the way. She seemed so curious about everything and could never lay down too long with out getting back up to explore. As she was taking a break and laying down in the shade while watching everyone she saw her brother Joe run underneath the picnic table and ran over as soon as she noticed him to go see what was going on. She jumped right underneath it as well and started to wrestle around with him until he pinned her against the floor. She finally managed to get out from under him and jumped out of the picnic table to escape. Lola started to run around the yard playfully as Joe chased her around as well, some of the others joined in for a bit before everyone got too worn out and had to take a break.

Issy and Mocha spent their day in the kitchen today. They love haning out in there instead of in a kennel like the others, they get lots more privacy and get to hang around with us during our lunch break. Which means a little extra snacks for Issy and Mocha. When they went outside for their group this morning they were fast asleep together tucked away in a corner. I had to wake them up to tell them it was time to go outside but they still seemed a bit sleepy. Once they got into the agility yard they both woke up more and started to walk around and explore. Mocha made her way into the agility yard first and began to sniff along the rocks on her own. She took her time and paced very slowly as she was walking. Mocha doesn’t like to play with many of the other dogs and likes to stick to herself more. Issy is almost the same way, but she likes to socialize with the dogs a bit more. As Issy made her way onto the yard she stopped right away and started to smell all of the long grass that was right by the door. She seemed to be very intrigued by it and shoved her nose right in to start digging around to see what she could find. Once she was done she started to walk a little further until she made her way up to Mocha, these two said hi to each other quickly before parting ways again to keep exploring. Mocha didn’t sniff around for that much longer until she walked back over to the door where she sat right in the sun to relax, and maybe catch a tan at the same time. Issy started to wander off and say hi to the other dogs that were also outside with her. None of them were too playful and she just walked up to them for a sniff then walked away. She seemed to be a little hot at one point and made her way over to the pool to cool off and get a little wet. She stepped in and stood in the water for a while before walking over to the door to see Mocha.

Abbie and Jock came in for day care today and seemed to be in excellent moods. When I let them out of their kennel to go outside they seemed to have a little extra energy than usual and were bouncing up and down when I opened the door to go outside. Once they ran out the door after everyone they calmed down a bit and started to walk around and explore on the gravel by the door. They had their heads down the entire time as they were sniffing everything that was around them. Whenever I tried to get them to look up at me by calling their names they’d look up super quickly and once they noticed it was only me they continued to sniff around. As some of the other dogs began to get playful in the yard and run around, some of them came up to Jock to try and get him to play. To my surprise Jock seemed to be a little interested in them and completely stopped sniffing to see what they were doing. As they ran over to him and began to paw at him Jock started to get a little hyper himself and jumped around a bit as they were circling him. Abbie was right ner him and looked over at him to watch but never joined in on her own, when the others walked over to Abbie to see if she wanted to play she didn’t seem to be interested at all and continued to explore around. Once they were done wandering around the gravel yard they made their way over to the grass and started to skip around the yard with everyone, Jock’s playing didn’t last very long and he began to roam around with Abbie again to sniff around the agility tunnel and big hole.

Miko and Merlin are always such a pleasure to have here for daycare. They are both so playful and love to try and get everyone who’s outside involved with their games that they play. When they first walked out the door into the yard Miko and Merlin both began to sniff around and explore. Merlin was exploring around the fence near Abbie and Jock. He seemed to be very interested in them as soon as he set foot outside. He stayed near them almost the entire time he was outside and whenever he roamed away he would always come running back to be with them. Miko stayed on his own at first; he loves to explore on his own rather than with the other dogs. He made his way slowly around the gravel then once he was done sniffing around there he walked over to the grass yard to begin exploring that area. Miko walked around the entire fence then decided to trot over to the big hole that’s been continuously dug in for a while now. It’s so deep that Miko jumped right into it and started to dig it deeper, even though the dirt Miko digs up doesn’t leave the hole and instead just keeps piling up behind him. Merlin made his way over to the grass yard as well once he was done roaming around the gravel. Abbie and Jock were with him and these three started to sniff up and down the fence along the rocks. Merlin started to play with Jock for a little bit as they were near each other. Merlin loved to jump up on his back to get him excited and whenever Jock ran away Merlin would chase after him and do it again. When I was sitting on the picnic table Merlin ran over and hopped up to sit with me for some cuddles. He seemed so pleased to be getting attention and cuddled right up onto my lap. Miko noticed and ran over to join in. Miko’s not usually one to cuddle while he’s outside but today was different for him. Once he got a little pet though Miko went right back to his regular self and started to run around the yard with Merlin again before going back inside.
