Cats

Allie was quite sleepy and quiet this morning when I went to say hello. She was curled up all cozy looking in her bed with no interest to get up. I gave her some chin scratches and cuddles which she seemed to enjoy as she melted into my hand. I tried to get her to play with her toy with no success. She sniffed it curiously before turning away to go back to sleep. Since she seemed like she wanted to have some time to herself I left her alone. Later on when I walked by the cat room I noticed she had finally woken up and was exploring around the room. She was perched on top of the cat tree watching out the window for any birds. She had of course gotten herself into the cupboard and helped herself to some treats while she was at. She is always such a curious girl.

Groups

Max and Sadie had a hoot of a day. This pair was thrilled to be out on a walk with Tiff. They motored their way around the field, leading the way. Towrads the end three dogs caught up behind them and Max was very interested in them. He began to play bow and bounce around at his mates behind him. After a little convincing, he and Sadie made their way back in front of Tiff to continue along the path. In the yard today a new group member, Anja, intrigued the pair. Anja is one of our huskies, which looks very similar to their usual friends Tasha, Boris, Magic, Justice and Rosie, but of course this pair knew right away that she was different.  Sadie and Max took no time at all to investigate every square inch of the new comers body. Once deciding that she was an acceptable addition to the group, the games began. Max was so attached to Anja for the entirety of groups today. At first, he was such a flirt. Wagging his bum in front of her and bumping up against her to get her attention. Anja is so easy going that she loved the attention and took no time at all to give in to his shenanigans. Anja pounced on Max, and then took off looking for a chase. All of Anjas siblings were right on her tail before Max could even take off to catch up. Soon enough, there were 6 huskies and a Max bolting around the yard. As Sadie stood in the corner, I could tell she was very meticulously planning her entry into the games. As she step my step made her way into the grassy yard, her eyes got smaller and her footing got slower. All of a sudden, Sadie leapt right in on the action and began zipping around with her buddies too. As soon as Max noticed his sisters in on the game he took a break from the husky shenanigans and pinned Sadie right to the ground. Sadie does a great job of letting Max know that she is big and strong too. Today she fired up off the ground and pounded her big brother to the ground. Max loved the intensity and began bouncing around with Sadie. All the movement between this pair drew a lot of attention to them, enticing their husky mates to join in. In the blink of an eye there was a mob of huskies in front of me, with Max and Sadie weaving their way in and out of the fun. As things finally started to settle down, Sadie made her way over to my side and nuzzled her head against my leg looking for some pets. She always loves a good scratch behind the ears. Max wasn’t too far behind her, poking his nose between my hand and Sadie, looking for his turn too. The duo was pleased to receive a bit of attention before heading back into their kennel where I gave them both a cookie for being so great today.

How shocking that Boris and Tasha were extremely excited to get here this morning ;). This pair was pleasantly surprised to be accompanied by miss Anja in their kennel and on their walk first thing. Tasha couldn’t have been happier to see one of her beautiful babies. And Boris was even more excited to have a sibling to mess around with. Later in the day Anja got her own kennel, Boris was sad to lose his 24/7 playmate, while Tasha was thrilled to be done with the babysitting. I bet she was thinking “I thought I was done with these shenanigans?!”. It wasn’t long before Tasha and Boris had their first group outing, which consisted of Justice, Magic, Rosie, Anja, Max and Sadie. Boris couldn’t have asked for a better group to be apart of. Boris had his bum tucked and was zooming around the yard before the entire group even got outside. Everyone was very focused on Anja, since she was new, however Boris continued racing around on his own in the grassy yard. What a monkey. Finally the whole gang saw Boris causing a scene and made their way into the yard to accompany him. Boris was quick to meet up with Justice and Rosie, and instantly flop onto his back and begin kicking around. He can be so dramatic sometimes, but it never gets old to watch. As Justice and Rosie huddled around him, giving in to his antics, Anja made her way into the pack too. Soon enough Anja was the one on her back while Boris finally got to take a turn leaping and bounding around her. Anja took a big breath and shot up like a rocket and began zooming around the yard. This is when Tasha decided it was her time to join in. She tried as hard as she could to keep up with the speedy youngsters, trying to control them. After really powering through the yard she caught up to Anja and leapt right on her. Boris then pounced on Tasha, which Tasha didn’t like one bit. Tasha was quick to turn around and her son knows what he can and can’t do. Tasha then parted ways from the silly youngsters and made her way to my side where she happily accepted some good pets and cuddles. Meanwhile, Boris wasn’t looking for the games to end any time soon. Boris found himself zipping around with his 5 other husky friends along with Max and Sadie. Boris was weaving his way through the tunnel and bounding over rocks. Boris was going too fast for his own good, as he slid on the wet grass and face planted. I laughed so hard watching him slide across the wet grass. He stood up with the biggest smile on his face as if he were a kid that just zoomed down a slip and slide. His tumble didn’t stop him, as he immediately began flying around the yard again. Boris was go, go, go, until the second it was time to come indoors. He definitely tired himself, and his group-mates out.

Anja is so gorgeous; it is crazy how much she has grown from a crazy little puppy to a beautiful young dog. Although, she does still carry the crazy trait! Anja was thrilled to be in a kennel with Boris and Tasha this morning. They were all leaping around, playing with one another as if they were in the yard. When I put Anja into her own kennel later on, she seemed disappointed to have so much space to herself rather than sharing with her brother and mom. IT wasn’t long before Anja met up with them in the yard, and the shenanigans continued. To Anjas surprise, it wasn’t just Boris and Tasha accompanying her in the yard. Rosie, Magic, Justice and two daycare friends Max and Sadie also joined the party. Anja couldn’t decide what to do first so she fluttered around from dog to dog, bouncing and pouncing on each and every one. Her silly antics sure got all the attention focused on her. Soon enough Anja was the centre of attention. Max was absolutely in love with her, so he did some serious showing off. Anja really liked the special attention he was giving her so she gave in and decided to play with him. As their games got more and more intense, her siblings all joined in on the fun too. Watching a mob of 6 grey huskies playing really becomes a blur, and it becomes tougher and tougher to decipher one from the other as their games get busier. From what I could tell, Boris was the troublemaker followed by miss Anja herself. Boris and Anja took turns rolling around on the ground as their siblings leapt all over them. When Anja was up and about she was always sure to pull the classic husky move; grabbing another huskies tail in her mouth. This is a signature Justice move, I wonder where Anja got it?! After endless amounts of tail tugging, and ear grabbing, Anja began to zip around the yard looking for a chase. To no ones surprise, the whole team was bolting around the yard like cheetahs in the dessert. I loved watching this group run and play as fast and hard as possible. When it was time to come in, Anja refused. Anja won this battle and got to stay out with yet another group. Anja wasn’t as sure of this group as none of them were huskies. She did some playing around with doodle’s as well as a shorthaired pointer but I could tell her energy was mostly drained from her previous group. Once her second outing (what a privilege) was over, she head back inside without any complaints to take a nap and recharge her batteries for the next play session.

Birdie was ready for her extra attention today. I opened her kennel door and she bounced down the hall towards the front. I grabbed a leash ad clipped it to her collar before heading outside. We started with a game of fetch with a tennis ball that she quickly destroyed so we switched to a fun rubber bouncy ball. I'm not sure which bounced more the ball or Birdie. She is so much fun to play fetch with as she races for the toy at such a high speed she has to dig her heels in to the grass to make a quick stop. After we had spent lots of time tossing the ball I decided we would end our time together with a short walk. We headed towards the grass and Birdie soon had her nose to the ground sniffing along in the wet grass. Birdie was just as excited to get in the yard today, as she has been every other time she goes outside. My favourite thing about Birdie is that she is always full of positive energy. Whether it’s raining, hot, morning or night, Birdie is always happy-go-lucky. To my surprise, Birdie wasn’t all about the toys for the first portion of groups today. Two young dogs that really sparked her interest accompanied Birdie. Finnigan and Hudson are both very energetic younger dogs that love a good time. This pair spent their time running around, chasing one another, and wrestling. At first, Birdie was very meticulous watching their every move from a distance. I could tell she was plotting something in her mind, waiting for the perfect moment to pounce. As the duo bolted by Birdie, she leapt right in on the action.  Both Finn and Hudson were so pleased to have another member join in on their fun. Birdie bounced around with the pair, wrestling and racing along side them. Finnigan was continuously trying to get her more and more involved by leaping on her, which lead Hudson to pounce all over her too. At this point, Birdie decided their shenanigans were a little too much so she stuck her nose to the ground and motored off in search of a toy. The whole time we were outdoors I had my eye on a ball, waiting for Birdie to find it. It wasn’t long after parting ways with the youngsters that miss Birdie found this great chuck-it ball. Birdie loved squishing it in her mouth and tossing it around for herself. A couple of her group-mates really wanted the ball too, but Birdie is queen of keep away. She spent the remainder of the group time laying down chewing on her toy and tossing it around then playing soccer with it. Right before it was time to head indoors, Birdie made her way into the pool to cool off before an afternoon rest.

Hudson is so much fun to have. He was so excited to get into the yard and see who he had in his group to play with. The moment he stepped foot in the yard and spotted Finnigan, the mini doodle, I could watch the sparks fly between them. This pair instantly bolted right for one another and body bumped each other at full speed. After leaping up and shaking off the greeting, Hudson immediately picked up the speed and began zooming around the agility yard like he was running on fire. Finnigan was right on his tail, bounding across the yard like a gazelle. Hudson kept looking over his shoulder to ensure his pal was still on his tail, and every time he spotted him he would put a little bit more power in his hind legs and sprint even faster. After laps and laps around the agility yard, their running drew enough attention for Birdie and Max to join in. Hudson was thrilled to have 3 dogs all over him. He was leaping and bounding all over his group-mates without a worry in the world. Birdie wasn’t too sure about this silly guy romping all over her so she politely pawed at him to stop. Rather than continuing, Hudson stopped, looked at her, and then gave her face a big slurp. It was pretty cute, as if he were apologizing. This brief break caused Finnigan to break away from the games and head to the pool. Hudson wasn’t going to let his pal leave his side so he followed him right into the pool. This duo was hilarious to watch in the water. The both of them instantly lay down in the water, completely submerging themselves. Hudson even loves to dunk his head too! After splashing around the water Hudson stood up and stared at me as the water poured off his body. He then gave a nice big shake, which startled Finnigan sending him flying out of the pool. Hudson took this as a cue to chase him, and the games started all over again. For the remainder of group time, Hudson was glued to Finnigans hip – running, chasing, wrestling, boxing, and swimming side by side. When it was time to come indoors the pair was dripping wet with their tongues hanging down to the ground from goofing around so much. Needless to say Hudson made his way into his kennel where he plopped down on the floor and completely laid on his side, catching his breath and recharging his batteries for the next outing to come.

Teddie and Kizmet have settled in quite nicely, as usual. This pair loves to sniff and explore the yard and is always keen to head back into their kennels where they enjoy resting on their comfy beds. Today the duo enjoyed a great walk with a good pal of theirs, Brutus. Brutus is a gentle giant; he kept Teddie and Kizmet great company as they strolled along the trail. This pair is always wonderful to walk; they tend to trot at a good pace ahead of their walker with their noses to the ground investigating the path. Sometimes, Kiz will lie down in the grass and roll around to mark a spot or get a nice itch. Later in the morning, in the yard, Teddie and Kiz were happy to saunter around and explore. I could tell that Kizmet was pleased that the rain had stopped, however he was not pleased about the puddles in the yard, which surprised me. As much as he loves the pool, he wouldn’t for the life of him walk through the puddles. I think his reluctant behavior rubbed off on Teddie too, as I had to convince them to leave the gravel yard and come explore the grassy yard (which meant walking through a very shallow puddle). After some convincing they were both very happy to be in the long grass where there was so much more to sniff and explore. While hanging out with Kizmet, I spotted Teddie making his way to the pool. Just like yesterday, he hopped in, and lay down, with the biggest smile on his face. Today, Kizmet didn’t hang out by the pool rather he enjoyed staying by my side where he could get lots of pets and cuddles.

Abby and Dudley were very social today when they were outside with their group. Abby couldn’t even wait until she walked out the door to say hello to everyone. As soon as she got out of her kennel she started to frolic up and down the hall to say hi to each of the dogs. Meanwhile, Dudley went straight outside and stood at the door to wait for Abby to join him. Once they were in the yard Abby ran right passed Dudley and started to walk further into the yard. Dudley sped up to catch up to her since he doesn’t like to be too far away and likes to be close to his sister at all times. Dudley began to walk over to some of the dogs and began to say hi to them. Abby gave them each another sniff and ran into the further grass yard to explore. Dudley watched her as she ran off but didn’t want to leave the other dogs so soon and he continued to socialize with them for a bit and at the same time walk closer towards Abby so he could be with her. When I walked into the grass yard I called all of the dogs over and most of them came running to join me. Dudley was along them and ran straight to Abby and they started to sniff along the rocks by the fence. He was happy to be with her again and trotted behind her every step she took. When Abby was done smelling all the rocks she made her way over to the middle of the grass yard to do some exploring there. She was very intrigued by the big hole that has been dug in the ground and stayed near it for a while to investigate. Every time she popped her head in the hole she was very careful she didn’t fall in. She jumped back whenever she lifted her head up and started to sniff around the hole instead. Dudley started to roam around the yard and kept on going up to all of the dogs to see who wanted to play. A couple of the dogs were loving Dudley’s energy and they bounced around with each other for a bit then stopped to roam around again. They would run back up to each other a little while after to continue.

Charlee and Keegan were both so much fun during their group outside today. It was so nice to have them come in this morning, both of their energy levels were very high when they went outside and they just couldn’t wait to start socializing. When I let Charlee out of his kennel he ran over to me right away with such a sweet smile on his face. His mouth was wide open and he couldn’t hold in his excitement to get onto the yard. I pet him for a moment then he ran out the door to wait for everyone else. Keegan was being a little curious, he helped me open his kennel door with his nose and kept it on the ground to start sniffing around the hallway. When he finally got out the door he didn’t stop there and continued to sniff all around the fence by the door for a while. When I got outside Keegan’s attention turned towards me and he began to get just as excited as Charle. They were jumping around at my feet until I bent down to give them some cuddles. Keegan couldn’t stay still for too long though and wanted to go and say hi to the other dogs. He ran over to them and began to smell all around their feet then up to their faces. Charlee followed him and the two began to say hi to each other playfully. Charlee really wanted to play with someone and began to bounce around with Keegan and a couple other dogs. Keegan wasn’t in the mood to play but he sure does like to run. He ran into the further grass yard as Charlee and the other dogs chased after him. When Charlee got into the yard he started to run up to each dog to find who wanted to play until he finally found one. They began to jump up on top of each other’s backs playfully as Keegan decided it was time to explore. He trotted around the grass and kept on running up to the fence to smell certain spots in the grass as if something was buried underneath, then he ran over to the corner of the yard and laid down. I walked over to go and pet him but he started to roll around in the grass for a moment then jumped back up and ran to the door to socialize with the more quiet dogs. When I walked back to the door before going back inside Keegan and Charlee were jumping all around each other for a moment before Keegan ran to my feet to stand beside me.

Lexie is such a sweet girl. She’s always so shy when she comes in at first and acts like she doesn’t know who I am, but once I go into her kennel and begin to pet her she opens right up and starts to bounce around me and give me numerous kisses. She didn’t want to go outside first thing this morning so I went in her kennel for a bit to greet her, she jumped up and followed me right out the door after that to join everyone else. During her group she enjoyed wandering and exploring, keeping an eye on the other dogs. She started to sniff around the gravel yard before moving on to the next and seemed very determined that she would sniff everything. She began to walk along the fence with her nose glued to the ground, she then made her way over to the picnic table that she seemed to be curious about. As she was smelling around it she decided to jump underneath it and stood there for a moment. She jumped back out right after and started to wander around the grass. All of the other dogs were still by the door but Lexie had no time to wait for them and ran over to the further yard to start exploring over there. She roamed around the grass and stopped randomly in certain stops to much on some grass. She seemed intrigued by the agility tunnel and ran over to it and peeked her head inside, but she then ran off to one of the rocks and jumped on top. She stood up there and watched the other dogs as they flew in the yard. When some of the others ran over to her she jumped back down and ran to me and curled up at my feet. I gave her some cuddles as she wiggled her body with enjoyment and after made her way back to the door. Lexie couldn't have been more excited to spend some time in the playroom this morning. She started out sniffing around the entire room, taking everything in. She jumped up on the couch and listened to someone talking in the reception area, before hopping back down to come and see me. She gave me lots of kisses while she sat in my lap. I then got out some toys and offered them to Lexie. She chased a ball around for a little while, before coming back to see me for more pets and cuddles.

Abbie and Jock came in this morning for daycare and apparently they both had lots to say as they barked their greetings all the way down the hallway. They calmed down after their walk which went really well today. Jock is getting for of the hang of it and has sped up lots while Abbie still wants to wander off the trail to smell everything. During groups they were both very eager to go outside. After trotting up and down the hallway they ran out the door and started to smell all of the other dogs that were standing around them. Jock seemed to be in such a playful mood this morning and all he wanted to do was run around with everybody while Abbie stuck more to herself and had a relaxing day. They both began to explore around the door when they first came outside, though. They wandered around the gravel for a bit together before they did anything else. Jock quickly got tired of exploring and ran over to the middle of the yard. He started to watch the other dogs and noticed two that were playing together. He kept his eye on them and just as he started to walk over slowly they bolted over to the further yard to start to play with each other. Jock tried his best to catch up and once he finally made it he started to jump around them to try and join in. He would paw at their side as they were wrestling but it didn’t do too much since they were so distracted by each other. Jock was having fun anyway and continued to jump around them with a smile on his face. Abbie stayed by the door for a bit longer but slowly made her way over and watched her brother as he was playing. She began to wander around the grass and sniff around a bit but kept to herself and didn’t go and see any of the other dogs. After they were done in the grass yard they walked back over to the door to hangout before going back inside.

Pelley was so very excited to join me in her extra attention time soon after her morning walk had finished. She was just started to go for a late morning snooze when I went to get her. However, as soon as she saw me she shot right up and was waiting at her kennel door. We first went into the playpen that we have set up in the front yard. Pelley was very excited to go into the small pool as soon as she saw it in the playpen and immediately jumped in. There were a ton of toy balls in the pool that she enjoyed playing with but for the most part she decided to lay right down in the water. She looked funny as she kept laying down then getting up and so on. This continued for quite some time before we started to venture into the long grass. The one thing that Pelley loved doing most today was exploring. We went all over the place; in short grass, long grass, around trees and on the regular trail. Pelley’s nose was working like mad as we explored the variety of places. Towards the end of her extra attention time we sat in the shade together so that she could get a long belly rub. I tried to interest her in a ball that we found whilst sitting but she simply sniffed it a couple times and would then go back to the belly rub. Pelley was being so much fun in the yard today as she was trying to get all of the dogs involved with playing including Buddy who was seeming a little shy. Buddy wasn’t being too social with the other dogs at first and kept to himself when he first came outside. When I walked over to go and see him he scooted away and watched me from a distance. Pelley was being super playful right away, and as soon as I opened her kennel door she started to jump around and jump up to say hi to me and the other dogs. I had no idea this little dog could jump so high! When she and Buddy made their way out Pelley started to socialize with the others right away, she quickly said hi to them all then walked over to go and greet Buddy. He was a little shy at first but quickly opened up to her and even let her give him a sniff as he gave her one back. Pelley ran over to the grass yard after that and Buddy slowly trotted behind and followed her. He made his way onto the grass and began to explore around just like the other dogs. Pelley didn’t want to explore though, all this girl wanted to do was play and she started to run around in circles as she got some of the others to chase after her. When they caught up they started to wrestle around in the grass and jump on top of each other, Buddy was watching them from a distance and started to move in closer to them while continuing to sniff around the ground. She ran over to him again as the other dogs chased her but when the whole group of them came running over it was too much and he ran back over to the door to see the more quiet dogs. Pelley ran around more before joining them and playing around the gravel before going back inside. Buddy's little tail was wagging a mile a minute when I sat down with him for his extra attention. He loved all the pets and especially the massage I gave him on his back. We sat in the reception area for a little while and every time he saw another dog his tail would wag even harder. Outside we went for a sniffy walk and Buddy explored along the fence and said hello to a few dogs who were playing on the other side. We then visited with Kinsey and Cascabelle, but Cascabelle only had eyes for her ball and where it was going next. After a walk, we went back to the reception area and did some more pets and massage until someone came to get Buddy for his outdoor play group.
