Gracie and I started our one-on-one time with a little wander around the front yard and field. I let Gracie's nose guide our walk until we made it back to the front of the building. I threw a frisbee for her a couple of times before we both started to get a little warm. Next, we made our way into the lounge building where we practiced Gracie's "place" command, at which she did very well. She loves to learn and work, so training is a breeze! After a few tries at "place", Gracie and I settled down on the floor where she rolled happily on her back and accepted lots of pets from me.
Millie is such a goof ball! After going for a good long wander around the front field, Millie and I headed into the lounge for some one-on-one playtime. First, Millie picked up a bone and carried it around to try it out. As she was roaming she came across the long stuffed catterpillar toy and decided that it was definitely the one for her. She grabbed it, which caused lots of squeaking. As she chomped on the toy, Millie shook it around, sending fluffs everywhere. Once she'd had enough fun with the caterpillar, Millie started to roll around on the floor, and then went to rub her back on the edge of the couch. I gave her lots of back scratches before our time was up.
Feist was sitting quietly in her kennel when I went to get her for her extra attention. I clipped a leash onto her collar and we headed straight outside for some exploring. We headed down the drive way wandering around, Feist checking out all the fresh smells today. She was particulary interested in the hay bales sniffing thoroughly around them. Once she seemed caught up with all daily smells we headed back inside to the cool air. She was super excited when she realized I had treats and plopped her bum down into a sit to ask nicely for a treat. Feist showed off what she knew, laying down and giving me a paw. After the treats we sat and relaxed together for a bit, while she got lots of attention from everyone.
Groups
Millie is such a ball of fun. She is really enjoying being an honourary member of the husky group. Millie definitely thinks she is just as big as them. She started group time off by prancing around with Domino and Justice. She followed them around until Domino started a chase and the three of them zipped around the yard. It wasn't long before Millie noticed that the pool was filling up. She bee-lined it for the cool water and leaped it sending a little splash my way. She slurped up some fresh hose water, then dunked her muzzle under. She trotted around in the pool letting her paws cool off until she noticed Kyah scaling along the top of the tunnel. Millie then leaped out of the pool and zoomed over to the tunnel to check Kyah out. Millie began running back and forth, in and out of the tunnel. Kyah was racing on top as she heard Millie below her. Millie was looking up in the tunnel trying to figure out where Kyah was above her. This game continue on for a while until Magic, Domino, and Justice trapped Millie in the tunnel by going in on either sides. All of a sudden the tunnel began moving around and Millie came dashing out one end with Magic, Domino, and Justice on her tail. These four did a couple laps of the yard before heading back to the tunnel for a good wrestling match.
Domino is such a handsome boy. I love seeing our puppies come in after they've grown up to see who they've become. Domino is obsessed with the other huskies we have here, and couldn't be happier to be apart of an almost all husky play group. He is doing a very good job of standing his ground when his siblings get the wrestling matches going. His favourite group mate is Magic and he is her favourite too. These two get the party started for sure. Magic eyed Domino down and then slowly approached him before sprinting full speed his way. Domino was smart to get a head start and began bolting across the yard full speed. Magic tried her hardest to catch him, but Domino's speed was no match for hers. He zoomed around the fence then bolted through the tunnel then leaped in the pool. To his surprise Magic wasn't on his tail and he had to wait a moment for her to catch him. He gave her a giant lick when she joined him in the pool. Once they both caught their breath, then went off for another chase. This time Justice and Millie joined in, which was good fun for Domino. It wasn't long before they were all in the tunnel, wrestling, and romping around. Magic and Justice had Domino pinned and before he rolled out of it, Kyah came leaping in and scared Justice and Magic off. These four ended up wrestling around, 2 against 2, pushing one another around and bumping into the tunnel. They were having so much fun and it was very entertaining for me to watch. After a great wrestling session they all headed to the pool to cool off and grab a gulp of water.
Gracie had a quieter day in the yard today. The heat had her much more interested in exploring and hanging out with me rather than playing around with the younger dogs. Gracie started her morning off with a good sniff around the yard. She scaled along the rocks around the perimeter of the yard with her nose down. Once she had the entire outskirts of the yard investigated, she headed into the middle of the yards to check out things like rocks, the tunnel, and the pool. When she came to the pool she was very slow to sniff around the edges, she was very aware that dogs may leap in and splash her. As her friend Finnegan leaped in she quickly scurried away, avoiding getting wet. She came trotting over to me with her ears back and a big smile on her face (as usual). I knew exactly what she wanted: scratches, pets, and kisses. I sat down on a boulder with her leaning against me giving her some good cuddles. She is always very kind to offer me numerous slurps across the face in return for ear scratches and belly rubs. After this we headed over to the tunnel where she showed me her tricks. She went running through it, and met me on the other side with a smile on her face. She then showed off her sit, paw, lay down, and roll over, before darting back through the tunnel and heading out the other side where she continued to explore the yard.
Finnigan was so excited to get going on his walk this morning with a new friend named Millie. Millie is a small boston terrier, with the personality and behaviour of a big dog. She and Finnigan made a great pair on their walk. These two kept one another very busy, competing for the lead throughout the entire walk. When one would stop to sniff something, the other would insist on smelling the same thing, then the two would bolt ahead to race and get ahead first. Come group time, Finnigan was so excited to be in the yard with two of his good pals Glory and Harvey. These younger dogs keep him very busy. Harvey followed FInnigan around as he sniffed and explored the yard looking for a toy. Finnigan was very pleased to find a nice green ball which kept him very occupied. We played a couple rounds of fetch until his pal Glory snagged the ball and danced off with it. Finnigan was okay with this, as he noticed the pool was full of fresh water. He bounded over to the pool where he hopped in and immediately laid down. Finnigan is small enough to fully submerge his entire body in the pool. He likes to lay in the corners where he can rest his head against the edge of the pool. Sometimes it looks as though he is napping in the water. He is such a water dog. After he discovered the pool he alternated between romping around with Glory and Harvey, and swimming with his pal Ranger.
Ranger was keen to get into the back this morning, as he motored down the hall without looking back. He was happy to head into a kennel and receive a yummy cookie from me before a brief nap. He got a little shut eye, but not much, as it was soon time for his walk. After his walk he was excited to get out in the yard with his friends. He was pleasently surprised to be outdoors with some new dogs. Younger and older, his new friends kept him pretty busy. He sauntered from dog to dog saying all his hellos. Once he kindly greeted all of his group mates he made his way over to the pool. He seemed a little disappointed that the water was only about an inch deep. Not too bothered, he hopped in anyway and stood about as it filled up over his ankles, then over his knees, and up to his belly. Ranger loves to hover about in the water on these warm days. It was tough for me to convince him to get out of the pool, but once he realized I had two free hands to pet him he was more than happy to sit by my side where he got some good cuddles and scratches before heading inside to dry off and take a nap.
Tinkerbell is such a sweet little lady. She was happy to get her morning started with a walk around our trail. She lead the way while her two pals Jack and Baxter followed behind her. Tinkerbell was very interested in every hay bail that we passed and insisted on stopping and sniffing each and every once. As we came inside Tink picked up a cookie that I had dropped and brought it back to her kennel where she hopped in her bed and gobbled it up. Tinkerbell was very independent in the yard today. She was keen to sniff and explore the yard with the company of the other dogs. She came across a rock which she jumped on top of and stood about like the queen of the castle. I headed over and sat on the rock with her. She was very pleased to have some company. Tink jumped on my lap and gave me oodles of kisses across the face while I cuddled and patted her. Later on when it was almost time to head back in Tinkerbell came across Baxter by the door who she was instantly flirty with. She was tossing her bum in his face, then wiggling all around him. Baxter flirted back a little bit, and the two of them danced around for a short period of time. When it was time to come inside, Tink tried to go into Baxters kennel with him.
Kouza is doing very well. She was happy to see me this morning and was very keen to head out into the yard. She instantly motored over to the grassy yard where she zipped around with her nose to the ground. After she did her business she found me and politely asked for some pets. Kouza enjoyed a slow trot with Katie this morning. It is a beautiful day today, so Kouza took in the fresh air and took her time to sniff all the plants and flowers along the path. Later on in the afternoon we headed back out into the yard where she met up with Jack, a jack russell. Jack was keen on sniffing the yard on his own, while Kouza was very interested in his every move. She motored along behind him, keeping up with him as he explored. She then wandered off to the shade where she met up with Julie. These two hung out in the cool breeze until it was time to head indoors for their afternoon nap.
Mia and Dawson were quite excited to get
outside for their group. They went bouncing around my legs barking at me. I
bent over to give them some pets before we continued on our way. Mia and Dawson
went running out to the far yard and went running around. I picked up a rope
toy and showed it to them. Mia got all excited and waited impatiently for me to
throw it. She went chasing after it and then left it, as she tends to do. Mia
then left me to go and do some exploring with Dawson around the yard. It wasn’t
long before we needed to cool of so we headed for the shade. Mia and Dawson
were pretty happy to hang out and get some more pets. Once they were cooler Mia
and Dawson headed out to do some more exploring. I picked up the rope toy once
more. Mia came racing over then went racing after the toy. Once again she left
the toy were it landed and went running off around the yard.
Caesar and Monte made their way out to the
agility yard and immediately set out to see what was going on around the yard.
They went around together until Caesar made his way over to me for some pets.
Monte left us alone and went trotting off to the pool. Eventually Caesar had
had enough pets and left me to check out more of the yard. I found a toy and
showed it to Monte. He came booking it over to me and waited impatiently for me
to throw it. We did a couple close tosses that he tried to catch before
switching to a good game of fetch. Caesar watch his brother antics for a little
while before returning to trotting around the yard. Sophie soon joined Monte
and I’s game. Monte seemed to enjoy the added challenge of another dog. After a
couple more tosses he ran off to cool down in the pool. Seeing the game was
stopped, Caesar headed back my way for some more pets. Monte hopped out of the
pool and went racing off around the yard. He found the toy and went to bring it
to me when he was stopped by Sophie who now wanted to play with him and play
fetch. It wasn’t long before they were racing around and wrestling.
Maggie went trotting out to the agility
yard intent on checking everything out. She soon spotted Mocha looking at
something by the rocks. Maggie detoured to make her way over to him to check on
what he was looking at. That done she headed out to check out more of the yard
on her own. Maggie was very intent on her explorations. She only lifted her
head up to watch what some of the others were up to. Maggie seemed to find the
came of fetch I was playing with Monte pretty entertaining though deigned to
join in. She watched us a little longer before Maggie went to see what Sophie
was looking at. Sophie ended up leaving Maggie to come and play with Monte and
I. Maggie tagged along but continued to just watch the fun. After a few more
tosses Maggie headed back to her explorations.
Feist was quick to make her way out to the
far part of the yard. After she had thoroughly checked out that part of the
yard she branched out to see more. Having gone around the yard a couple times,
Feist decided it was time to cool down in the pool. She hopped right in and
started to dig and splash around. Nice and damp, Feist headed over to relax in
the shade for a little while. Once she was feeling much cooler she headed out
to rejoin us in the yard. Feist headed right for me and leaned against my legs
wanting lots of pets and attention. She seemed pretty content to stay and get
all the pets, but Mocha and Monte splashing in the pool caught Feist’s eye.
Feist went trotting over to see what they were up to. After she was satisfied
the pool was fine Feist headed off to continue exploring.
