Max went outside a little bit later on with his husky friends Ivy, Rosie and Ricky. Max burst through the door and slid through the deep snow. Max was so full of beans that he ran through each yard before even saying hello to the other dogs! Once he had released some of his zoomies, Max went and said hellos to Ricky and Rosie, while Ivy sniffed around the other side of the yard. Rosie was happy to see Max and the two play bowed at each other before taking off running once again. Ivy noticed Max and Rosie and chased after them, making things even more exciting. When it was time to head inside, Max was happy to find Sadie waiting for him in the playroom, ready to play some more!
When I went in to see Kyah this morning, she was all curled up like a cinnamon bun on the big round bed with Merida laying beside her. I told her that it was time to go for a walk and she rolled over and stretched before hopping up, ready to go for a trek. Kyah walked with Merida and Zim, and she had lovely stroll with a few bursts of playful energy along the way. Later in the morning we headed out for group time, and Kyah spent the first little while wandering along the fence. She spent a little while getting acclimatized to her surroundings before getting into play mode. When Kyah paused to look up at the other dogs, I ran over to her and prompted her to join in the fun. She pounced right on top of Justice who was wrestling with Sadie. Justice turned around and took off running with Kyah and Magic following behind. Kyah loves her boy Justice, and he certainly loves her too!
While the other dogs were busy wrestling, Percy was digging in various spots around the yard. He hopped over to join in the play every now and then, making sure to voice his opinions to the other dogs as he went. He loves to coach the other dogs when they play, and runs big circles around them keeping them in his preferred space. Percy dug at a few more spots as he followed along, but he only found a rope toy. Seeing as Percy prefers a ball or a rubber toy, he only carried it around long enough to show his friends before putting it down and jumping into the play once again. Percy wrestled a little bit with Sadie, Justice, Kyah, Merida and Magic, and finished off his group time with some snuggles from me.
The snow fell like a continuous blanket all morning, covering the yard in a thick layer of white. I picked Teddy up before opening the door, and he looked at me as if to say "oh boy, here we go!" I made sure his little jacket was on nice and snug, and out we went. Maddie had no problem at all with the fresh snow, and she made her way out to the untouched part of the far yard. Teddy and I hung back a bit at first, and I put him down along the side of the building where the snow wasn't so deep. He met Benji as he waddled along towards the playroom door. They said a brief hello before Teddy continued on his way towards the main yard. I left Teddy to his business and went to say hello to Maddie, who had found a few friends to play with. Maddie was in the middle of a game of tag with Bennie and Ghira, which took them around the yard and back again in a matter of seconds! Ghira took the lead while Bennie and Maddie followed along behind. Maddie paused for a moment to think of a good strategy to catch Ghira. She started running again a moment later, but whipped around this time and laid down in the snow, trying to blend in. Ghira was so focused on Bennie behind her that she didn't see Maddie in her snow bed! It was too cute when Maddie burst from the snow and took off running with her friends. Maddie and Teddy got to go out into the yard again a little bit later in the day with some puppy friends! It was absolutely adorable watching Teddy run as fast as he could through the deep snow with the puppies. He wound up jumping more than running with his little hood bouncing up and down. Maddie, meanwhile, was running around with Ariel while keeping an eye on her little guy as he ran around the yard.
Ghira was the life of the party in our small/medium dog group today. She didn't even pause to look around upon entering the yard, and she took off like a flash of light into the far yard. She was very happy to see that Mac and Bennie were hot on her heels and ready for a good run. Ghira ran around for a good part of group time with Mac and Bennie, only pausing to say hello to me and to have a quick look around in the snow. She was doing laps with her friends when something caught her eye. Ghira stopped to lay down and bury her face in the powdery snow, looking around intently for the interesting object. She looked up at me with the most adorable snow covered face and plunged her nose into the snow once again. I looked around while she was investigating and found a rope toy that I thought she might like. Ghira ran right over to me and the toy and I tossed it for her. She caught the rope and shook it very quickly before running off to show the others. She loves to have fun, no matter what or who with!
Benji was happy to follow his nose around the side of the building during group time today. He wandered back and forth along the wall with his nose pointed towards the ground, taking it all in. He passed by a few of his friends as he wandered, including Teddy and Julie. Benji paused to greet Julie, who was doing her best to pull her wheelchair through the deep snow. He stopped to sniff Julie and her wheels before continuing on his way. Benji saw Ghira, Bennie and Mac racing around in the far yard and decided to head out there to say hello. The dogs were play bowing and pouncing, so it was the perfect time for Benji to join in! As Ghira took off once more, Benji tagged along as Bennie and Mac took off running after her. He zoomed around the yard to let his wiggles out before it was time to have some fun in the playroom.
Bennie always has a blast when he goes out with his smaller friends, so today he did just that. He did lots of running and playing with Ghira, a new friend, and Mac, an old pal. Bennie ran and ran and ran all across the yards until it was time to head in to the playroom. Bennie wasn't ready, though, so he hung back by the fence that faces the field until I came out to get him. He play-bowed to me, and I couldn't help but let him stay out to play a little while longer. I took Bennie through the hallway and out to the big dog yard where he met some new friends. Shyla the husky was very happy to see a new face joining the group and she took an instant liking to Bennie. She followed him around as he went from dog to dog, and eventually the pair ran a few laps of the yard together. Bennie is such a sweet guy, he loves to play with absolutely anyone!
I think that Maverick and Shyla would have made great sled dogs. The pair were overjoyed when we went out on the trail for their walk this morning. It was snowing so hard that all of the previous dogs' footprints were already buried, and Maverick and Shyla kept a steady pace at the end of their leashes to try and uncover all of the smells. They walked in such a straight and concentrated manner, they could have been pulling a sled! Later on during groups, Maverick and Shyla parted ways for a little while to see their friends. Shyla was immediately drawn to Bennie, who bounced into the yard with a playful energy. Shyla raced around behind Bennie wherever he went, pouncing here and there along the way. Meanwhile, Maverick was taking it easy by exploring the corners of the far yard that face the open field. I followed the majority of the group into the agility yard and Maverick decided to tag along as well. When we reached the others, they were already running and wrestling. Maverick bounced over to Shyla, who was playing with Bennie, Wally and Forrest. Shyla was happy to have Maverick involved, and she zoomed around excitedly. Shyla's zoomies rubbed off on Maverick and off he went running around the yard. When it was time to head inside, Maverick was still overcome by the zoomies and continued to run around the yard even when the others went inside!
Viggo started his day off with a trail walk alongside his friend Scarlett. He kept mostly to himself, although he was happy for the company as he followed his nose down the trail. We walked at a quick pace and Viggo led the walk the whole way around. When we got back inside, he was happy to curl up on his bed with his cozy blanket until it was time to head out for group time. Viggo greeted his friends out in the yard as they approached him, but continued to sniff around along the fences. He seemed happy that the yard was fluffy and fresh and he had a little skip in his step. Viggo was very interested in what his friend Naughty had dug up, so he followed her around until he got a good look. Naughty took off running with her toy and Viggo couldn't help but bounce along behind her! He needed a break after a few minutes, though and came to greet me. He leaned up against my leg and looked up at me while I pet him. He's so cute with his foldy ear and gentle eyes!
Naughty is such a silly girl! She literally dove head first into the snow when we headed out into the yard for group time. She kept her head down and pushed herself forwards with her back legs for a few feet at a time. Each time she poked her head out of the snow, Naughty's ears were all fluffy and white with snow and they perked up even more when she saw that I had a ball in my hand. I threw the ball for Naughty and a couple of her friends, and she raced off after it each time I threw it. She ran around with her prized ball with a few of the other dogs chasing after her. Naughty tossed her head back happily, which sent the ball flying for her to chase once again. When she caught the ball this time, Naughty dove head first again into the snow, burying her toy. She was happy to have something to dig up once again, and she spent the rest of her group time flinging the ball and finding it again.
My last walk of the morning was with my friend Cooper. Cooper was eager to stretch his legs on the trail and to play in the snow. As we walked along, Cooper would dive head first into the snow and push his face through the powder. He did this again and again until we made it back to the door, never tiring of the cool feeling on his face. Cooper went and took a little break in his kennel before it was time to head back outside for groups. In the yard, Cooper greeted all of his friends and did a quick check of the yard. As he walked along, Cooper came across a rope toy that was lightly covered in snow. He picked it up immediately and shook the rope back and forth, sending snow flying in either direction. I grabbed one end of the rope and Cooper was very excited to play tug with me for a little while until it was time to head in for some fun in the playroom.
Riley and his mama Roobee sure love the snow. The pair danced and pranced around the yard, enjoying flinging the white powder behind them as they went. Roobee barked excitedly as Riley grabbed a red frisbee and took off across the yard with it. Riley threw the frisbee around and picked it back up each time, while Roobee continuted to sing along beside him. The pair really love to play together, and they stuck by each others' side pretty much the whole time they were out in the yard. Riley branched off from his mom here and there to greet the other dogs, but always returned to her side to make sure that she was still happy and having fun. I had a little cuddle time with Roobee while Riley was running around with Bennie and Forrest, and she seemed very happy to have some one-on-one attention. When Roobee was all done having hear head and ears scratched, she started feeling frisky and rushed over to Riley. She barked in excitement and started running along, looking back to make sure Riley was following. They make such a cute pair with their little brown bums bouncing away as they run!
As usual, Chloe set out in search of a toy in the yard today. On a regular day she would have one within seconds, but today she had to work a little bit to find what she was looking for. Thankfully, Riley had finished the hard part for her when he found the red frisbee. Chloe couldn't wait until Riley was finished playing with the frisbee; the look in her eye said that she just had to get her paws on it! I went to see if she wanted to snuggle for a minute while she waited, but as I approached she got very excited and took off running around the yard. Chloe was running like crazy, zig-zagging back and forth around the rocks and through the gates. While she was running, I went and picked up the frisbee that Riley had left in the snow. Chloe saw me and bolted over with her ears perked right up. I threw the frisbee as hard as I could and Chloe chased after it. From that point on, Chloe kept her focus on her frisbee, only stopping to pick up the orange ball as well. She could play with her toys all day!
Boomer and Forrest each went for a walk with a couple of new friends today to switch things up. They were happy to go out to play together though, and they made a great team. Forrest was drawn immediately to Wally who was just roaming the yard. Forrest ran up to him and bumped him gently to see if he was ready to play! Boomer saw his brother getting frisky and galloped over to join in. Forrest took the lead and chased after Wally, who had run off to find his friend Ricky. Boomer and Forrest each ran along with their friends and took a second to check on each other here and there. I love that you can tell that they're brothers by the way the wrestle with each other. Forrest likes to grab on to Boomer and vice versa, no matter where they are or who's around. Even as we head down the hallways or through doors Boomer and Forrest like to nose each other and rassle like brothers. I had some one-on-one snuggle time with each of them as they took breaks from playing. It was great to see them both running around and having fun with the other dogs today!
Sally and Glo really bring the party to whichever group they're a part of. Glo spent most of her time today running from dog to dog, inviting whoever she met to play. She played with Sally, of course, but she took a real liking to a new friend, Baxter. Glo loved his energy and once he had said his hellos, Glo pounced on Baxter and the two started to wrestle. Sally loves a good wrestle, too, and she ran over to jump into the action as well. Sally and Glo wrestled with Baxter until he wandered off to take a few minutes to catch his breath and to greet the other dogs. Meanwhile, Sally went and sat down with Hazel, who was chewing away on a rope toy. Sally plucked the snowballs from her fur and observed the other dogs as they went about their business. She watched as her little sister went running off with Glory the bloodhound, who had been waiting patiently for her turn to play. Glo and Glory wrestled and ran around the agility yard where Boris and Tasha were hanging out, which led to a big wrestling match between all four dogs! A few of the other dogs popped in here and there, including Baxter and Hazel. This group meshed very well and all of the dogs got along very nicely together.
I love going in to greet Hazel. She can usually be found snuggled up on her big comfy bed, or wagging her tail with a toy in her mouth. Her big, sweet eyes make it hard to stop petting her or playing with her. She kept things balanced out in the yard today. She spent a good amount of time roaming along the fence, looking out into the field or watching the other dogs playing. Along the way, Hazel found the end of a pink rope toy and carried it around everywhere. Hazel bounced around as the other dogs ran past, always with her rope held high. Hazel visited with her friend Sally, who was laying down and eating some snow. The girls laid in the snow together until Hazel decided that it was time to get playing! She took off running further into the yard, and Sally got up to chase her. They met up with Glo, Baxter, Tasha, Boris, Brock and Glory as they ran, and the whole group took off together! Hazel took breaks whenever she needed to, but was always ready to burst back into the action. She adds a very nice energy to her group :)
Boris and Tasha found themselves to be part of a great group of playful dogs. Tasha hung back at first during group time, said hello to me and then wandered off into the agility yard. She likes to go in and have a look around while the yard is still full of pawprints from the previous groups. I continued through the yard to find Boris having an intense wrestling match with Glory and Brokk. Brokk is starting to get a bit tougher and Boris definitely loves a challenging partner. The boys wrestled nonstop for the first little while, with Glory jumping in here and there. After a few minutes, Boris flew across the yard to pounce on Baxter. The others followed along and Baxter was excited to jump around with his new friends. The group took off running into the agility yard, so I followed along behind them. Tasha was standing behind the tunnel and adopted a more playful stance. Brokk ran up and threw himself across the tunnel but only made it halfway across. He sat half on top of the tunnel and Boris jumped in and tackled him. Tasha had been waiting for the right moment to pounce on her son, and there it was! Tasha and Boris ran and wrestled around the yard together for most of the rest of their play time. I love that they still have so much fun together!
It was great to have Baxter back at Tails & Trails today! He looks very spiffy with his new haircut, and it made for some great photos! The minute Baxter stepped outside for group time, the other dogs wanted him to play. Boris approached him right away, and the boys took off bouncing through the deep snow. Some of the other dogs joined in the match too, such as Sally, Glo, Tasha and Boris. Baxter ran all around the yard with his friends, and dipped into the tunnel with Glo. Baxter and Glo hid in the tunnel for a moment to throw the others off their trail. Boris figured them out though, and he slid into the tunnel as well! I called the dogs over to see in which order they would come out. It was too funny seeing all three dogs try to squeeze out at once! Baxter turned around, though and jumped out the other end of the tunnel and the others followed along. Baxter made some good friends today and he certainly played the day away!
