After a nice long morning trail walk, Dixie was ready to come up front to her usual place for her extra attention time. It has become such a routine for her in the past couple of days that she just beams with excitement when I approach her kennel door and gallops down the hallway to the reception area. Today she had the room to herself and that meant extra attention from all of our staff that just adore her. She made herself comfortable on my lap for the most part and enjoyed the body massage as she watched everyone work with those big lovable eyes and accepted pets from everyone who walked by. She then followed Leah around and sat like a nice girl as we gave her some special treats. Out in the yard, she was excited to see her good pal Miko and together they found a nice fresh patch of long grass and licked the morning dew off with their little tongues. Finally she was ready to play and that meant wrestling with her best friend Miko and the energetic Tag! Dixie really enjoys Miko’s company especially with that silly personality of his; it takes a very special dog to bring out that silliness in Dixie and Miko was the man for the job! Miko is such a funny little boy; he makes us giggle every time he is around. Not only is he the perfect pint sized teddy bear that loves to cuddle, he is also a little trickster that loves to have a good time. Today he was the referee in the wrestling match between Resa and Tag and he barked and chased these two funny ladies all morning long. However he did make sure to come over for some extra love in the yard and even accepted a few kisses from Tag once they finally settled down. This morning I knew better not to let Miko know when it was time to come back in since it’s his favourite game to let us chase him at that time. Instead, after a few head rubs I quickly swooped him up and brought him back in while he sloppily kissed my face; what a charmer he is! Duffy was quite the energetic boy himself today as well. Perhaps it was the great energy given off by Dixie and Miko that had him running circles around me in the yard. He even stopped for a quick game of chase after the energetic duo of Resa and Tag. It wasn’t long before he made is way back to my side and jumped up and demanded some head rubs. All I could see was his infamous smile that was beaming from ear to ear amongst that long beard of his. While I was kneeling down on the ground giving Miko some attention he ran right over and nudged me right in the arm and almost knocked me over. He is a playful pup that definitely knows what he likes and human interaction is at the top of his list!

We were so excited to meet little Muggins this morning and so was the rest of her group. Of course she was a little bit shy at first as she met all of her new friends that were very interested to meet her, as any pup would be. She was very sweet as she let everyone come up and say hello and even accepted a few kisses from the bunch. Once she got comfortable with her surroundings I could see her playful side wanting to come out especially watching Arly and Birdie chase that ball; how could a lab resist a good game of ball! She happily circled the bunch and I could see her tail perk up in excitement every time the ball hit the ground but she wasn’t quite ready to play in full force just yet. However she was quite content to hang out by my side as we watched the others play; I am almost certain she will be joining in the fun during her next outing, just needed some time to warm up! Well didn’t her energy come beaming out when it was time to go back inside, as the others filed back in she lingered behind because she wasn’t quite ready to go back in. Once we were alone out in the yard she started zooming around and splashed in the puddles, let me tell you its impossible to keep a lab out of the water! I couldn’t resist playing a quick game of fetch with her with the nice red ball that she was eyeing up all morning!

Maggie was one of Muggin’s new friends out there today and as you would expect of Maggie, she was gentle and very inviting of her new friend. Maggie is another one of those pups that you can’t help but giggle when she is around. She is such a jolly girl and definitely wins the award for best smile and hairdo. Today she just had a blast with new friend to the group Arly; there was just something about him that brought out the best side of Maggie and she couldn’t resist wrestling with her new friend. Once she released all of that energy she found me in the yard and posed for a few pictures like the pro model she is. When I knelt down on the ground to try and get Muggin’s attention, she ran over full tilt and demanded all of my attention!

Silly brothers Teddy and Kizmet were the last two to round out this fun group and boy they didn’t disappoint. Dogs just always seem to love these two and are drawn to their playful yet gentle personalities. After making their rounds and stopping to sniff and say hello to Muggins, they were ready to play! Kizmet was the life of the party and could be seen playing with just about everyone that came his way. He offered Arly a sincere play bow and Arly accepted his invitation to wrestle. This of course got the attention of Teddy and he soon joined in but was trying to get the attention of his brother by jumping up and down on his back. Soon enough they had everyone joining in including Pirate and the rest of the gang; these two brothers sure know how to get the energy flowing and boy was it flowing today! My favourite moment of the day by far was when I approached Teddy and Kizmet for their morning trail walk. Teddy perked right up and over but Kizmet turned away from me. I soon realized that he went to take a big gulp of his breakfast and immediately turned around with his tail perked up and a mouth full of kibbles; he needed a snack for the road!

Bella has been getting more and more playful as each week progresses lately. She has really gotten into the groove of things with her new found friends, especially Justice. As long as he is in her playgroup she is full of energy, looking for a game around every corner. She didn’t hesitate to get going today when she got into the yard. She made her way straight to Justice and began dancing and prancing around him. He was quick to give in to her request to play, by bolting away looking for a chase. Right away, several other group mates were in on the action. Justice had everyone racing after him as he looped in continuous circles around our small outdoor kennel. At one point, he was going clockwise, then counter clock wise, half way around the kennel back and forth and back and forth. Bella stayed right on his heels the whole time, presumably getting quite dizzy. The pair along with their other mates finally settled down after they had lapped around a hundred times. Bella wasn’t ready for the games to end, as she pounced right back on Justice looking for more fun. Justice wanted to take a break, which Bella accepted, so she made her way to other husky friends Kyah, Magic and Oakley. These four had loads of fun goofing around on the tunnel. Bella is very agile when it comes to chasing her friends around the tunnel. She isn’t afraid to dart through it, leap over it, or bolt around in as long as it means she is right on the heels of whoever is in the lead of the chase. Needless to say Bella had a great day today from start to finish. Constantly getting in on games, occasionally breaking off for her favourite things; pets, cuddles and of course treats.

Two lovely golden girls happily surrounded Finnigan today. Molly and Charly were absolutely thrilled by the company of Finn from start to finish of their outdoor time. Finnigan shares many of the same traits as these two pretty girls. Being very found of toys as well as a good wrestle on the ground made this trio inseparable. Finnigan had his eyes set on a big red ball from the second he got into the yard but his mate Molly was much too speedy, capturing it before he even got a chance to sniff it. This set the whole mood for their time outdoors, constantly battling for possession of this great toy. I was happy to see Molly give up the toy to give Finn and Charly all a chance with it. Each one of these dogs loved being the holder of the treasure, and having two other dogs following them around. Finn was very silly when he had his turn with the ball, looping through the tunnel and bounding over it, knowing these girls weren’t quite as comfortable so he could get away. After endless laps around the yard as a solid trio, Finn decided to break off with just Charly for some intense wrestling and boxing. These two always find one another, making the perfect match for their silly rolling and romping. Finn and Charly took turns smothering the other, while their limbs went flailing all about. They kept at this for ages. When it was time to come in I had to march my way all the way to the back of the yard and chase Finn down as he ran away from me, darting me left and right, practically laughing at me for chasing him. After giving he and Charly another 5 minutes to goof around, the pair decided they would come in and rest for a little to recharge their batteries for their next outing.

Oakley has been so outgoing lately! She has really found her true match, which is miss Kyah. These two are such a bizarre pair, but nonetheless, they find one another each week and pick it up right from where they left off. The moment they spotted one another they quickly met each other and began sniffing each other overhead to toe. They then began kissing all over each other’s faces and ears, giving the cutest greeting. Kyah wasn’t shy to begin pawing at Oakley, and then play bowing. Oakley wasn’t too sure at first, nuzzling more and more into me while Kyah continued to dance around her. Finally, out of nowhere Oakley took off across the yard, practically flying. Kyah was quick to catch up and lead miss Oakley to the tunnel where she showed off by leaping on it. Oakley hovered around the base, politely asking Kyah to get down, only encouraging Kyah to taunt her more. Kyah and Oakley then got going on a very silly game of swatting at each other from the top of the tunnel and on the ground. Finally Kyah went bolting off, getting a big chase started with Oakley included. Oakley was happy to bolt around with Kyah as well as Bella, Justice and Magic. She realized half way through the games that she was very involved and seemed very surprised. She darted away from the games to retreat back to my side. Oakley then happily accepted lots of pets and cuddles for the remainder of her outdoor time, also accompanied by her good pal Kyah.

Max and Sadie having been really enjoying their one on one time in the yard. They love having the whole area to sniff and explore on their own without the interruptions of silly group mates. They both seem to know just when they have had enough of the sniffing and are ready to get playing. Today Max and Sadie eyed each other down from across the yard and then slowly approached one another before Sadie made the move. She began bolting full speed across the yard, motoring as fast as she could to get at him. They quickly met up and collided in the air, ensuing a massive boxing match. They are both very strong dogs, managing to stay on their hind legs with no problem. They really gave one another a run for their money today, pushing each other over and getting back up with no problems. It was so much fun watching them tackles one another and then sprint full speed in circles. Sadie had a great time leading Max in and out of the tunnel and then leading him over top of the tunnel. They were so tired when group time was done that Max head into his kennel and on his bed in a second. Sadie on the other hand asked for a belly rub and refused to come in. This has become her recent favourite game. We always give in to her, giving her some love and attention before begging her to hop up and head indoors.
